Who are you the most similar to from Roland's second ka-tet?
It's not such an easy question...
For my part I need some time to find it out. Right now I have no idea. I know who my favourite is... but...

What about Father Callahan? I just may be a reformed boozer who preaches the gospel of christ on another plane of existence.

Yes, and Oy as well.

Sheer devotion and loyality

I love Oy...

Not totally serious but I always considered him a full member of the katet.

Well I am totally serious when I say I've always considered him a full member of their ka-tet. Answering Letti's topic there really is no one in his second ka-tet that I am like. As far as his first ka-tet? I can't say about Jaime DeCurry because we don't know much about him, but the same goes with them too.

Father Callahan is not a full member of the ka-tet. AWESOME character but he is not. Oy is.

Anyway, I guess I would be a mixture of Eddie and Roland. I'll vote Eddie. :)

I agree, it is a difficult choice. My personal stance on it is, I would be a touch of Roland's younger self, romantic and bold, and Cuthbert from his previous ka-tet, easy going and loyal.

But, for the pages sake, I also voted Roland.

With a bit of Oy because you get that itch behind your ear and the need to mark your territory once in awhile?

So did I.
We can put Oy into the poll but I don't think that anyone of us could say they are most similar to Oy.
I mean...
Noone can be as good as a dog. But it's a hard topic (and a bit or very philosophical) and it can lead us to many many questions so to sum up we can put Oy into the poll if you wish. :grouphug:

Childhood innocence??
No way.
Sense of belonging around friends... hmmm... no, not really.

But...
I do have a "Roland" in my life. Long and nice story (much nicer than Jake's).
Not the same situation or history (of course) but still somehow very alike.

I'm going to vote for Eddie. Watching him come around to what he really is over the span of the books feels similar to what I've done with my life over the past handful of years. I've changed a lot - I wasn't addicted to anything, but in a way I did have a monkey on my back. The fact that he's a smartass and uses his humor in his approach to a lot of things helps, too. Hee.

I picked Jake, because I was at the office all night and went home for only a couple hours of rest where one of my kids (sick little 4-year old) didn't let me sleep much in the little time I had, and now I'm back in the office. Today I feel like someone pushed me in front of a car.

Stephen King! (Oh, yes; to me, that never gets old.)

No, not an easy question at all, but a great idea for a thread, Letti. :D

I had to give it a lot of thought. It was easy for me to rule out Eddie. I have some dear friends with that type of personality, but I myself, well...

I guess the main thing is that I am more reserved. A true Virgo in many respects.

For those of you who don't know, I am one of those DT fans with an uncommon degree of sympathy for Roland. At first, he seemed like a good choice, but there are some definite big differences.

I picked Roland but only because I can be single minded to the point of insanity.

And its not always a good thing, not at all. :ninja:Not always, no, but sometimes, even if it takes you beyond the pale. I'm also Ox, in the Chinese Zodiac, so I understand the value of dedication, even if it is a hard row to ho. At the same time, I don't accept any narrow definition of sanity that's laid on me by thoughtless convention. I strongly believe that a man's path is a matter just for him and his God to work out.

Despite this, I'm not really very much like the Padre. I like him, and I agree with many of his religious conclusions, but I never had so much angst over them in my own life, or so dramatic a crisis of faith. The theme of fighting vampires has been an important one for me, but I haven't been nearly so overwhelmed at any point. What I most share with Callahan is his special wanderlust. If his vision of his ultimate reward was true, then he and I just might meet up some day. :)

What all of these so far have in common is the concept of addiction, and that, too, is something that I've thankfully never had to struggle with in a major way. A better archetype of my own issues in that area might be Calvin Tower. :| If you really want to add more options for people voting here, there's one character that you might think about.

Now, Susannah/Mia, Odetta/Detta, Susannah, that's someone whose problems and nature (in personality and in her role) I can really identify with.

But I am sure now that the answer which I must give is Jake, because I am a man out of time. I wasn't born until 1973, but I was a bright child, and very sensitive. I was so impressionable at that time that I still to this day feel, in the depths of my heart, like a boy living in the seventies. Also, what I've said about my insight to Roland may well stem more from my own father issues then any wannabe complex.

...No one can be as good as a dog. ...Oh, I can't let that pass without saying, Good Point.

I think I relate most with the crimson king in that both of us want nothing but suffering and total destruction.

Ok, really Roland.

Without a doubt, I identified with Eddie the most, but I enjoyed learning about Roland more because, well, it's Roland.

The two questions are very different from each other, for me.

i was just wondering when reading the book what character did you feel more personally connected with?
Susannah... She is not one of my favorites, but her divided personality made me feel closer to her.

also which character did you enjoy learning more about as the story went on
Randal Flagg. I still want to read more and more about him.

thank you love!!!

Now, dear friends, if in light of these new options you would like to vote for someone other than you have already voted for, just post your wish here, and the poll will be altered accordingly by one of human or ursine moderators.

Woah, I'm the first Alain! No, my face doesn't look like a slow person's face.. =P But otherwise, I'm a lot like him. I'm a strange mixture of Cuthbert and Alain, in fact. With strangers I tend to laugh and joke around, but in fact it's just a way to hide the shy, reserved Alain inside me. I'm also very intuitive, to that degree some people get spooked by that, heh heh. 'The Touch' or whatever you want call it, but that's what I've got. =) Friends have often wondered why animals and babies often stare at me and follow me everywhere, which is just great, because I so love them. :)

Eddie for sure!

And why? Eddie is a quite complex character.
