Alias. If you read any of the MAX books by Marvel, you have this book to thank. The MAX line was begun specifically for this series, which lasted 28 issues and spawned a sequel series in Marvel's regular line called The Pulse.

Alias was written by Bendis and produced one of the most flawed heroes I have ever seen. This added realism to the characters and realism is one of the marks of the MAX line. If you have enjoyed any of the following books/series you should be voting for this title: Alias, Apache Skies, Black Widow: Pale Little Spider, Blade, Cage, Werewolf by Night, Doctor Spectrum, The Eternal, Foolkiller, Foolkiller: White Angels, Hellstorm: Son of Satan, Fury, The Hood, Howard the Duck, The Punisher: Born, Frank Castle: The Punisher, Rawhide Kid: Slap Leather, Shang-Chi: Master of Kung Fu, Supreme Power (predecessor to Squadron Supreme), Supreme Power: Hyperion, Supreme Power: Nighthawk, Terror Inc., Thor: Vikings, War is Hell: The First Flight of The Phantom Eagle, U.S. War Machine, U.S. War Machine 2.0, Wisdom, X-Men: Phoenix - Legacy of Fire, Zombie

Maybe I read too many comics?

Maybe I read too many comics?

Or maybe i just don't read enough. Especially of the Marvel MAX line, i have a feeling i'd enjoy many of the titles you mentioned.

Ok, best i'd give reason for why i voted (and nominated) Judge Dredd: America other than a "fuck yeah!" As i've mentioned before, at just over 60 pages, it is SHORT, but in that short space it tells a life story with so much depth of one single ordinary citizen of mega-city 1, with heroes so flawed and the distinction between good and evil blurred, that i was amazed to find that a Judge Dredd story could be so bloody mature for once!

It's the kind of story that you just KNOW is special from the first two pages: the first page is a classic image, just one panel filling up the page, showing Judge Dredd standing on the american flag, whilst the Statue of Liberty is seen behind him. The whole image just seems amazingly patriotic.

This is then shattered when we see the next page: it's the same image, but more is revealed. Much more. Dredd is actually standing on a dead body with the bloodied American flag wrapped around it, with the Statue of Judgement standing ever so higher over liberty.

From that moment on, it became pretty clear that Dredd wasn't going to be the hero this time. It was also the moment i went from liking the Dredd comics to becoming a full time fan.

Dark Phoenix Saga.
Without a doubt.
It is the quintessential story of what a true superhero is.

The shocker for me is that no one else seems to have read or enjoyed Alias. That really does surprise me.

I own Treachery. I don't own Sandman: World's End. (I got it from the library.) I had to go with the Sandman stories though. Sorry Dark Tower, I love you still.

Hey, I love the Dark Tower comics, and look forward to them, and collect them...

... but nothing is touching Dark Phoenix Saga for me here.

The Invisibles : Say You Want A Revolution by Grant Morrison

IT WARPED MY MIND.

Mine too. I would say something about how we should band together for the Invisibles, except we are, and it's not working too good.
