I've corresponded with a couple of foreign translaters over the years while they were working on King books -- a Russian and an Italian. They contacted me for clarification about the cultural meaning of certain words or phrases in King's books. It's a fascinating process.

...Few more:

Cell - Kuulolla (exact tranlation is little bit tricky, but it means hearing/to hear)
Christine - Christine, tappaja-auto (Christine the killer car)
Cycle of the Werewolf - Ihmissuden vuosi (Year of the Werewolf)
From a Buick 8 - Buick 8
Lisey's Story - Liseyn tarina
Misery - Piina
The Running Man - Juokse tai kuole (Run or Die)
'Salem's Lot - Painajainen (The Nightmare)

Yeah... I totally agree that some of the translations (especially the names of the books) are sooo misleading. Sometimes I think that they're putting names on pieces of paper and then picking a winner from the hat...

In Bulgarian!

Here are the interesting ones, that are translated differently than the original titles:

The Stand - Сблъсък - Collision (I don't know why they picked this title)
Firestarter - Живата факла / Подпалвачката(there are two versions of the book, by two different publishers. The first is titled "The Living Torch", the second is "Fireraiser")
Roadwork - Пътна мрежа - Road System (or Road Network)
Different Seasons - Особени сезони - Odd Seasons
Thinner - Проклятието - The Curse
Nightmares & Dreamscapes - Кошмари и съновидения - Nightmares and Dreams
The Green Mile - Зеленият път - The Green Path (or Way or Road)
Riding The Bullet - Да се возиш във влакчето на смъртта - To Be Riding on The Roller Coaster of Death
Everything's Eventual - Всичко е съдбовно - Everything is Fateful
Dreamcatcher - Капан за сънища - Trap for Dreams
Black House - Черният дом - The Black Home

The Dark Tower - Тъмната кула

1: The Gunslinger - Стрелецът
2: The Drawing of the Three - Трите карти - The Three Cards
3: The Waste Lands - Пустош
4: Wizard and Glass - Магьосникът - The Wizard
5: Wolves of the Calla - Вълците от Кала
6: Song of Susannah - Песента на Сузана
7a: .................... - Lost Voices - Изгубени гласове
7b: The Dark Tower - Тъмната кула

Here, the seventh part of the DT series was separated in two books!

And here are the not so interesting:

The Shining - Сияние
Rage - Гняв
Night Shift - Нощна смяна
The Long Walk - Дългата разходка
The Dead Zone - Мъртвата зона
The Running Man - Бягащият човек
Pet Sematary - Гробище за домашни любимци
Cycle Of The Werewolf - Цъкъл на върколака
The Talisman - Талисманът
It - То
The Eyes Of The Dragon - Очите на дракона

Bag Of Bones - Торба с кости

@ Jean - The bulgarian and russian languages are very similar. I can understand most of the titles in your post.

Don't know about the Odd Seasons. It sound good in Bulgarian, definitely better than the literal translation, but in English... i can't decide. I agree about The Living Torch, though!
Interesting thing is, that the word tommycnockers is very good translated in Bulgarian and the little verse about the tommycnockers sounds very nice and it has a rhyme, which is strange, because the two languages are totally incompatible and it's impossible to translate something from English to Bulgarian or from Bulgarian to English without losing the rhyme!

I have a question? I've never seen other 2-book version of the Dark Tower VII, except the Bulgarian edition. Is there such a thing somewhere else?

Меховая, brume means mist or fog.

Ok. i try my best:

It´s a critic regarding a report in a Stephen King Forum in Germany about ´bad, senseless..´ names of Stephen King books.
An old-good 100% correct translation was IT=ES, but then the King Publisher in Germany
thinks, short titels are a beautiful idea....
The first ´stupid´ name was SIE - She for Misery. But then the worst comes.
For: “The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger” - Schwarz - Black
The Drawing of the Three” - DREI - 3
- Tod - dead
- Glas - glas
- Wolfsmond - wolfmoon
- Susannah - ---
- Der Turm - The Tower

The the autor listed of more examples of the German ´Translations´
The Girl who loved Tom Gordon” - Das Mädchen - The Girl.
Dreamcatcher” - Duddits´ Why not Traumfänger- the translaton
Then she writes about the newest NAME. Every SK fan knows that there is a unpublished
Novel - Blaze. But in germany the publisher think QUAL - pain, torture is a better title.
Then comes Duma Key - in Germany Wahn - Craze
And then comes the proof of the IQ less of the translator of the books, Lisey’s Story
in germany LOVE ... Why , why not Lisey´s Geschichte or Lisey.... Why Why...

This is a very short short roundup of the article... Sorry for my english it´s a little bit rusty.
