So, Halloween is coming up soon. This will be a thread to talk about your costume plans and to show off previous costumes.

I normally have my costume planned before Spring is even over, but this year I wasn't very inspired. However, a few weeks ago, I decided that I am going to be The Crimson King, but not the lame end of the story CK.

I'm going to get a white wig and beard, and a friend of mine is going to help me with some flowing red robes.

I ordered some Black Out cosmetic contact lenses. I thought about going with red lenses, but the more I thought about the Crimson King, the more blackouts seemed to fit. This is because( spoiler about the CK's origins below)

of the the stuff in the comics regarding his ancestory with his mother being a creature of the Prim. So, given that, blacked out spidery looking eyes seemed more appropriate.

I'm also going to buy some long, black and pointy fake nails.

Now, I have two sets of movie fx teeth that I am looking at, and I can't decide which I should choose. I am looking for some opinions from Dark Tower fans here.

I can't decide because of stuff about the Crimson King's past as well.

Now, these teeth just look really mean and cool:

http://www.dentaldistortions.com/html/DD_products_lucius.htm

However
Pennywise/Dandelo is also a spider like creature, and most likely from the Prim as well. With that in mind, they have Pennywise teeth from the TV miniseries here, which might be a good idea:
http://www.dentaldistortions.com/html/DD_products_pennywise.htm

What do you folks think?

Darkthoughts

I like both (unhelpful, I know :P) but, on the page for the Lucius teeth, in the "new for 2007" bit I think the 4th set of teeth along would also be pretty cool. They look quite cannibalistic.

Sounds all great OChrisO (except of disagreeing with you about the "lame end" which I'm assuming you mean the CK going mad and being weakened at the end, even though his eyes are crimson in both human and spider forms he can shape shift to look like what he wants to so having a different looking set of eyes can work.

Cool thread. :)

Last year I was a very drunk and stoned Jack Skellington :P This year I was planning on dressing up as a droog, but that scene is so burned that I dont know if I still want to.

Paris is going to be Hannah Montana (like every other girl on the planet) or Pucca this year. I'm trying to convince her to be Pucca.

I'm still trying to decide what I want to be. Last year I was a zombie. Aaron was a zombie too. Halloween was so much more exciting when my mom made my costumes.

My Halloween costume is top secret every year (only DBF knows), but I'm kind of into a "bad pun" trend. One year I was a cat burglar, dressed all in black with assorted cat toys hanging out of my pockets and a stuffed cat in my arms. Last year I was dirty laundry, a clothes bag with assorted items attached (including lingerie - DIRTY laundry, get it? I know CK does). This year is another bad pun, but you'll have to wait until Halloween to find out. :)

I'll be Roland! :) CK can be a Whore of the Wind. ;)

On topic: I haven't dressed up for Halloween in 10 years. :( I was The Crow that year (Bradon Lee crow, not that shit afterwards). I always have to work and never get to go out for it anymore. My wife and I were going to be Buffy and Spike a few years ago but that fell through.

i know maerlyn was buffy a few years ago for hallowe'en. i adore hallowe'en, as well (it's my anniversary, don'tcha know? our 9th this year), but for the last two years i've been pregnant and too tired and huge to feel like dressing up.

the last time i did dress up was in 2003 and i was lois griffin. there are no pictures.

This may sound bodunk but me and Dora considered going as Toby Keith and Willy Nelson (back when they had a popular song out together)

Dora was going to be the Red Headed Stranger.

*votes Boondock Saints for FP* Do it, man, you know you want to!

Let's see, my favorite costumes that I've done in the past are:

- A recycling center
- Chris Farley's Lunchlady from SNL (a girl dressed as a boy dressed as a girl, hee). Sloppy Joes were served at that party, and we hadn't even coordinated anything. It was great.
- Allison the basketcase from The Breakfast Club. I had a bottle of vodka (mostly empty) and a black thread wrapped around my finger and everything.
- Pippi Longstocking

I have photos of none of these, sadly.

Either that, or there's gonna be twelve "cats." Y'know, where you buy the ears and maybe a nose, then wear black spandex and possibly tights. If you're feeling super creative, you might bring a cat toy or paint whiskers on your face. Oooooh.

Not scary, I know. But it did scare the hell out of her dad. And big brother wasn't too thrilled with it either. I believe his words where "You really going to let her wear that?" Silly men. Oh, and she was a hick fairy. Don't ask me where she got that idea.

The wig and the beard material came in the mail today. However, the beard is theatrical hair with theatrical adhesive, so I won't be able to use it until the day of the party I am going to. All the is left now is the robe, which I will be getting the stuff for my friend to make soon and the claws. I think I am doing to base the robe off od a chinese monastic robe, except modified with a hood. Anyway, here's some more pics. Ignore the messy bedroom.

I'm really excited for Halloween too, Chris. It seems to be a big event here in Vegas. Back in Alabama, it was but it wasn't. Mostly churches putting on festivals. Most of our neighborhood was made up of older couples who shut off the lights and locked the doors. Here there are tons of kids, the area's flat, houses close together...makes for good trick or treating.

And the big haunted house here seems like it is going to be amazing. Drew wants to go, but I think he's a little young.

If anyone's seen the movie Donnie Darko I'm going dressed up as his halloween costume in the movie. Got my skeleton suit and I'm going have my artisitic friend draw the 28:6:12:42 (adds up to 88, movie was filmed in '88. Just some fan boy knowledge for ya) the exact same way its shown in the movie on my arm.

No...they don't. But they do have to be either Ginger or Jessica Rabbit at least once. I think its a local ordinance around here anyway. You might want to check with your local city hall.

well, to be fair...the theme was assigned, but we were the only ones who went all out. the other groups that participated didn't really do much, but we built a cardboard house and i spent all of the night before carving out the tower room and the windows and everything. we also had the majority of our group participating while most of the others only had a handful. it was great fun. but i had to take that itchy wool suit off as soon as the judging was done. (and wash off the moustache...the eyebrows proved harder to get rid of)

angela, who was my darling wife, morticia...her mom made that dress. it had the little octopus tentacles at the bottom and everything. she kept bitching and wanting to know when she could take "this damned whore makeup" off.

anyway...it was great fun. drake was unhappy that i was dressing up as a boy for hallowe'en, though.

What you can't see: His cap had the image of the lady you see on truck's mud flaps, he had the buck teeth, and his shirt said "This is what awesome looks like." He probably received the most laughs. ok, now that's just darling! But I'm gonna have to creep out on the dummy branch here and ask...what the hell is Jane? A weed? A turnip? Maybe a Mandrake? Not sure and it really doesn't matter because that girl would be cute going as Mr. Hanky! I just am not recognizing the costume. I know, I know...I should probably be shot.

BUt hey! Dean is an awesome ninja! I got that one right!!

So, I know it is only June, but this is the time of year that I start plotting my Halloween costume. As of right now, I am thinking of being Rorschach from Alan Moore's Watchmen comics.

Every year, I dress up as a scary clown. It is my trade mark.

I am ordering this one off the internet this year.

I really want to dress up as the T-1000 this halloween. I know my sister can come up with something for the 'bullet wounds', but I wonder how hard it'll be to find a pair of those kickass boots. :orely:

Girlystevedave

Easy..just go find a biker bar and throw someone through a window and then steal their boots. :D

Just make sure you have the 'appropriate' background song playing at the time.

Well, I was meant to be going to the Gaiman signing for Halloween, but the kids were mortified that I wouldn't be here for trick or treating, so I may end up selling my ticket

Sam wants to be a zombie this year, Ruby is going to be a cat and Max wants to be a dragon...pass the scissors and sticky tape!

I'm going to be an escaped inmate from Arkham Asylum (double reference there, so I love that!), complete with barbed wire wounds and still shackled to part of the arm of another inmate.

Mr. Woofer's doing a variation on the dark jester. He's going to apply a half-face skeletal appliance under his mask so that when he takes off his jester's mask the top of his face is a skeleton.

The two girls I'm going to Screamfest with will be June Cleaver (who lives up to her name) and a Vampirate.

My best costume was probably back in high school . . . I was The Crow (Eric Draven, the one, the only and the original) not any of those stupid ones that came after. I did all my make-up myself and everything. It was bad ass.

But a couple years ago, I was Space Ghost. It was hilarious. It had this padded foam chest with all the muscles and abs carved in it. Hahaha. If I can find some pictures, I will post them. They're funny as hell.

Sadly, I don't know if any pictures exist but one year in high school I went as Bill S. Preston Esq. I tried to convince my friends to go as Death and Ted but they wouldn't do it.

I had the backwards red hat, yellow shirt, green&black flannel and adidas shoes w/red laces.

best costume i did? Hockey player. On roller blades, back when i was 12.
i ended up skating down the sidewalk at high speeds, and swung my hockey stick and hit another kid in the face while doing so. it was funny.
his big brother tried to make me apologize, then give him my candy. i hit him somewhere else. it was funnier.

I've been thinking a lot about Halloween lately (mostly due to my Great Costume Debate of 2009) and I thought, hey, this could be a really fun discussion.

So this thread is for your Halloween plans. Costumes, pumpkin carving, parties, fun ideas, things you love to do every year, etc. etc. Go nuts!

Right now I'm thinking for a costume to do a kind of old-fashioned masquerade kind of outfit... like fancy dress and a mask, not really a costume in the sense of "I look like something" per se, just a rocking outfit. Not sure how much that will cost though.

ka-mai, there's this manufactured costume ball costume (http://cgi.ebay.com/Masquerade-Ball-Gown-Countess-Costume-with-Mask-Medium_W0QQitemZ200391484009QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_ DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2ea8436269&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14) on ebay.

This page (http://www.costumepage.org/costume.html) is an excellent source for costuming resources, including information on how-to and Halloween crafting, online.

However, you can put one together with very little monetary output. If you can find a good bridesmaid or prom dress at a thrift store near you, you can build your own cardboard and wire hanger bustle. Accessorize with a fancy, accordion-type fold fan and layered choker faux pearls, the right type and length gloves, and an appropriately cool hand held mask. I can just see you now...

 That's pretty cool... I'm thinking more red and black or something, but it is pretty close to the look I'm going for.

As for the Ebay dress... I'm not a medium. :( That's the other problem, when shopping I can usually find what I want... in a normal-people size. Stick-people sizes are hard to come by.:pullhair: But thanks for the idea. :)

You're very welcome. I hope you can find something that you can with. I'd definitely keep checking ebay, too. With Halloween this close, people will be tossing more and more costuming bits up for auction.

I do know of a few other places good places online, but they're not inexpensive, spur-of-the-moment costuming quality or price. These places make clothing, jewelry, and armor geared more to the SCA, Ren Faire, and historical and theatrical societies. The Uruk-Hai armor that Mr. Woofer bought is authentic leather armor made by Schmitthenner Armoury (http://www.schmitthenner.com/). They don't carry that particular line any longer.

Mr. Woofer, the Uruk-Hai:

(Note the makeup sweating off around the neck. We had to keep reapplying all night. If we did this one again, we'd extend the prosthetic down to the neck or at the very least use liquid latex. Makeup would usually suffice in this instance, but since it was Florida and a particularly warm Halloween and he was wearing leather from head to toe... You get the idea. Lesson learned.)

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo194/TheCuteWoofer/Halloween/successfulhunt.jpg

I was a Pirate of the Caribbean in the moonlight:

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo194/TheCuteWoofer/Halloween/Halloween04P.jpg

You can see that even I'm sweating off a bit of it here. Always keep your makeup around for touch ups.

By the way, when will Chad be back?

I'll be taking the kids trick or treating. Not sure what they'll be. They might go as Buzz and Woody. They might go as Darth Vader, yes...the both of them. They have matching costumes and red lightsabers. They have a lot of costumes though so its hard to say what they'll end up going as. We're into costumes in this house. I used to be much more into Halloween myself but that kinda tapered off after the kids came along.

Oh Tamez, you're going to be too hot.

Here're some Egyptian makeup tips (http://www.fashion-era.com/ancient_costume/egyptian_eye_make_up_cosmetics.htm). More tips here (http://www.celebrations.com/content/Halloween-Makeup---Egyptian).

Instructions for Applying Traditional Kohl Eye-Makeup

1. Dampen the stick.
2. Twist it in the kohl until the makeup adheres. (Give it a little shake or a tiny flick of the wrist so that the excess drops off.)
3. Place the kohl stick in the inner corner of your eye.
4. Close your eyes (lightly- don't squish them shut- you'll distort the line)
5. Gently draw the stick outwards, between your closed lids: the kohl will leave a smudgy line on both the upper and lower eyelids.

* A genuine kohl stick should have a slightly rounded bulbous end, kind of like a polished wooden q-tip.
