Yeah! I have really enjoyed the first movie. This looks cool, too.

* After the movie, we had talked all about it with friends, during the way back to home:
''Hey, come on Transformer, I need a blender!''
Lovely old days. :rose::cry: *

I'm a big fan of Transformers, the old toys, tv-shows and comics :D
so the first movie was a bit disappointing, since so much was changed from the good old days. but hey it's good entertainment!
Looking forward to the next one :)

I have a feeling that the sequel will be far superior to it's predecessor :D

And look how small Optimus is compared to Devastator!

I enjoyed the first movie for the most part. Not including the usual glorification of the military. I'd love if the Insecticons had an appearance.

agreed Wuducynn.
and I'd love if all the transformers were closer to their original form. (Prime a flatbed (think that's what it's called in english), Bumblebee a vw beetle, Megatron a Luger, etc)
aaand I think the transformers are too detailed, there's so many tiny parts all over, it's hard to see what's a leg and what's a head in the action sequences.

While I would have liked them to look like the originals, they were also trying to update them to hit a new target audience - today's kids. They updated the look of the robots but kept the original names to hit existing fans and to create new ones.

Bay Talks Transformers 2
Director gives an update on the sequel.
by Jim Vejvoda

February 11, 2009 - Director Michael Bay has dished some deets on Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and answered whether he might return to helm a third film.

Collider recently cornered Bay on camera, who was asked about subjects ranging from the sequel's running time (which he says is currently 2 hours, 20 minutes but that editing is ongoing) to getting permission to film at the pyramids in Egypt.

Bay revealed that he filmed three scenes for Revenge of the Fallen in IMAX, and that the sequel will be darker and more epic in scale than its 2007 predecessor.

The director added that he could see himself directing another Transformers film, but that he'd want at least a year off first regardless.

They could have reached a new audience with the new looks as well, simply because it's a live action movie instead of a cartoon.

IMO the recent years of Transformers comics shows how great they can look while keeping the original form.

I'm all for the original looks, but I think they were moving more to a Anime look. More like some of the stuff that is popular now with the kids.

Frank Welker Returning for Transformers 2?
Director says he might have cartoon voice actor join the cast.
by Jim Vejvoda

March 10, 2009 - Here's some good news for all those fanboys who were peeved that voice actor Frank Welker wasn't hired to voice Megatron in the live-action Transformers movie: he might be lending his voice to another Decepticon in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Welker voiced Megatron in the 1980s animated series, but was replaced by Hugo Weaving in the 2007 film. Now Transformers 2 director Michael Bay has revealed on his blog that "I think I'm going to pursue Frank on Soundwave." Welker also voiced that character on the TV show.

Soundwave's cronies Ravage and Laserbeak are also expected to appear in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Hugo Weaving recently confirmed that he'll be back as the voice of Megatron in the sequel, which opens June 24.

Spielberg Loves Transformers 2
Bay claims that the bearded one digs Revenge of the Fallen.
by Jim Vejvoda

April 15, 2009 - Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen director Michael Bay claims his sequel has received the approval of one of the most important people in Hollywood: Transformers executive producer Steven Spielberg.

In a posting today at his Shoot for the Edit blog, Bay wrote, "Steven Spielberg sat next to me in a big 100 person theater at Sony today. There were 98 empty seats. The lights came up after we just watched my cut of Revenge of the Fallen. He turned to me and said, 'It's awesome.' He felt this movie was better than the first -- and probably my best, who knows -- at this point in a movie you start to lose your objectivity. I just hope the fans like it. I'm going to start putting it in front of audiences in a few weeks -- no you are not invited, yet."

He added, "We have 60 days left. Let me tell you it will be a race to finish. It's 12 at night and we are still working here in the edit room. Everyone at ILM and DD are killing themselves right now, they are doing a stellar job on the effects."

Bay also revealed, "We also just finished our trailer which is coming out with Wolverine." X-Men Origins: Wolverine (officially) opens May 1.

I don't think I'll be running out to see this opening weekend, but will probably catch it later on.

Honestly, the first one was only :meh: to me. I loved Bumblebee but thought Shia and Megan sucked.

Does it really matter if there's a cliffhanger ending? The movie was really, really cool. Too much Megan Fox and some of the story could have been dumped in my opinion to streamline it more, but still awesome as hell.

I think Megan Fox said on EW that she doesn't really act in Transformers.
She just runs around, screams, and looks good.

Then again, this is one of the few movies Michael Bay is suited to direct.

The way I think of it, if you've only watched the previous movie, you'll like it. But, on the other hand, if you're a long-time Transformers fan(That's me...I grew up watched Gen. 1), then you probably won't like it.

I'm a Gen 1 fan too. I watched the cartoon from the first moment it aired on Saturday morning. We had our clock set to wake us JUST so we could watch Transformers. I got Soundwave Christmas '84, my older brother got Optimus Prime, and my little brother got Megatron. I cried when Prime died in the original Transformers The Movie, and I cheered when he was brought back later in the season afterward. I read the comic book as well and when Soundwave was re-released several years ago, I purchased one months in advance because I had to have one again (my original one had long ago disintigrated from being played with so much).

I enjoyed the film. My older brother loved it too. I just wanted people to know that fans of the original series have enjoyed this film too.

If you liked the first Transformers film, you will like the second. It is what it is and doesn't try to be anything different.

The Meghan Fox stuff is just downright funny. The first time we see her she is painting the gas tank of a motorcycle with her ass in the air doggie style. It's so gratuitous it made me laugh. Then there's a scene where she's taking her jacket off and the camera zooms in for a close up of her boobs. I swear I think Michael Bay is really a 13 year old trapped in a grown mans body.

I was disappointed with the first film, but I thought the second one was a lot better. Maybe that was because of lowered expectations. Who knows.

It was a little long (and anybody who knows me knows I never complain about how long a film is) and I was surprised to see some of the language. I know it's PG-13 and I'm certainly no prude, but this film is geared towards kids and yet the actors are saying, "pussy, asshole, shit a few times, bitch and a few others I can't remember." It just seemed a little odd.

Also, Michael Bay has never seen something he can't blow up. Jesus Christ this film has a porno's worth of explosions.

I would have also liked some cooler secondary characters. The twins are the Transformers version of Jar Jar Binks. They were so annoying. Actually, if I were black, I might be offended.

With all that being said, I think it was a fun film and since it's the first Saturday that I haven't had to work, I was determined to enjoy myself.

idk, my bff jill?

QFT!

I had nothing better to do last night, so I buckled under peer pressure and watched Transformers with some friends.

I came out feeling like someone bashed my head against solid rock for a good 2.5 hours. Like Still Servant said, if there's one thing Michael Bay can do, it's make shit explode, and this guy took every chance he possibly could to make every frame contain some form of destruction.

I hated how they tried to make all the characters funny...and often failed.
And how all the women in the movie (with the exception of Sam's mom) looked like ugly, tanned whores. I'll admit, though, that Megan Fox's boobs looked great during the whole movie. And her makeup was truly infallible. That clownish red lipstick didn't fade at all, and no matter what, her eyeliner and mascara never even smudged.

I didn't hate the movie, and I didn't mind that it was long (although I think my ass did), but I don't think I'm ever going to watch it again.
I love Bumblebee and Optimus Prime, but I can just play with my old toys.
Don't judge me.

:P

Review - Funny... like it it or not.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
From City Paper:Washington
Michael Bay's latest piece of cinematic sadism

Michael Bay, as a filmmaker, is a fucking tool. His latest and most egregious piece of cinematic sadism, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, is nearly unwatchable, a 140-minute video game that will insult your intelligence, hurt your eyes, and offend your sense of decency until you worry that your skull might explode while your brain trickles right out of your ears. Unfathomably, it’s miles worse than its predecessor, 2007’s Transformers, suggesting that perhaps the words “in association with Hasbro” should have never graced a screen to begin with. There’s an alleged story to accompany this visual assault—by a trio of scripters that, also unfathomably, include Star Trek writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman—involving a kid named Sam (Shia LaBeouf), his hot gearhead girlfriend, Mikaela (Megan Fox), and warring alien robots that can morph from everyday objects into ’droids. The Autobots are good and the Decepticons are bad. Sam heads off to his first year of college at the beginning of the film and gives Mikaela some vaguely important shard for safekeeping. Then he starts having epilepsy-like fits and seeing weird symbols, and soon shit goes bananas. For two more hours! Even if you initially admire the bluster of Bay’s action and note that these ’bots could have nicely energized Terminator Salvation, the endless loop of battle-destruction-explosion-repeat gets tedious fast. And when things aren’t blowing up, the scenes are often embarrassing: John Turturro appears in a thong; two “urban”-sounding robots say they don’t do much reading; another robot has balls that hang like Christmas ornaments. (You wouldn’t know what they were if Turturro’s character didn’t mention being under a “scrotum.”) And the humor runs along the lines of Sam’s cartoonish mother eating pot brownies and knocking herself out on a hanging plant. The real tragedy, though, is that the film is sure to break the box office and will have those who aren’t cringing instead whooping with delight. Weep for America.

I took my nephew to see it today and I enjoyed it quite a bit, but I liked the first one as well. I thought the action sequences with the robots were better this time around, more slow motion as I got confused who was who in the first one. The sequence in the forest with optimus was especially well done. And I really don't care if Megan Fox is a static character or not. The eye candy fits within the context of a film that is an action summer blockbuster.

I thought it was cool. Look forward to the next one which I guess will be about the revenge of Megatron.

One could argue that being successfully entertained is the meaning of cinematic experience. It all goes back to the notion of catharsis. The movie was engaging, not in the same way as the indie dramas that I like, but engaging none the less. There's a lot of Michael Bay haters on this site, but I've always enjoyed his movies more or less. I grew up in the 80's and over the top action movies remain staples from that era whose legacies are apparent in everything between Bad Boys and Transformers. If its a successful outlet of some kind of emotion, even aggression or delight at seeing extra terrestrial robots duke it out, then its a cinematic experience. The shadows on Plato's cave aren't any less valid because they fail to induce fear or pity.

That's a fair distinction coming from you Pam. I know you still enjoy the blockbusters as do I. Overall, indie story driven movies with clever cinematography are my favorites but I hope I'm never jaded to the point where I can't enjoy summer blockbusters for what they are. And its often the case where more famous actors are able to make low budget films because of their mainstream success. George Clooney has often said that he'd never be able to make and star in movies like Syriana (sp) if Ocean's 11, 12, and 13 didn't do so well. Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman in Juno etc...

Donnie Darko is one of my all time favorite movies and it was done on a 4 million dollar budget which is peanuts. The movie almost didn't make it until Drew Barrymore's production company decided to go out on a limb and give Richard Kelly a chance. Her salary, as well as Noah Wylie's, Patrick Swayze's and even Jake Gyllenhaal's were far less than normal (he'd had some success with October Sky and was paid next to nothing to be in the film which many consider his breakthrough role because of the critical praise).

I'm not saying that I like everything that Hollywood puts out, but a good action movie is something that I'll always enjoy. I grew up during Top Gun, Rambo, Die Hard etc... And one of the things that I specifically like about Michael Bay is that he balances the CGI with actual set pieces/props pretty well in my opinion. Transformers, I realize, has a lot of CGI but the military strikes look very real to me as well as a lot of the backgrounds. I'm no expert but it was different from Matrix Revolutions or Watchmen in my opinion. You could tell he blew real shit up in Bad Boys 2 as well... I guess he's one of my guilty pleasures, but the guilt wasn't there until everyone on the site seemed to hate him. Now I feel like Kafka's Red Peter dancing around in a monkey cage late at night, detached from society and watching bad movies in Hi Def when the rest of society sleeps in civility. What the hell am I talking about anymore? Sorry about all the rambling.

I'm more apt, actually, to make sure I see a big summer movie in the theater. That's part of the BIG!!

No midnight showings around here. :(

I need your movie bubble.

Brice - I think you can appreciate this... my Movie Bubble contains JuJuBees... not for eating but because they have some heft to them and are perfect for throwing at people who won't shut-up while the movie is playing!

Good points Brice, but I agree with Pam. Some movies demand the big screen and she's right about midnight showings. Also midday matinees are usually pretty sparse and quite enjoyable. I seldom see new movies on Friday or Saturday nights anymore unless I'm on a date or something. People drive me insane.

And Indie movies in the theater are outstanding. Most Indie houses have reasonably priced beer and the people that show up are usually older and very respectful in my opinion. I've never had a bad experience in one come to think of it. Most of them are mad retro too, which is cool. People complain about ticket prices, but its less than what most people spend on Starbucks in a couple of days.

Beer?!? The theaters you go to sell beer?!? Wow. Not in Pennsylvania!!! I could have used some, too.

Only the Indie theaters, and its all on tap. Good imports too, like Amstel Light and Newcastle. I will take you out on a date if you ever come down to North Carolina Pam. :huglove:

Aw, Ryan? I'd go a little bit straight for you. :couple:

Okay, so Transformers:Revenge of the Fallen. First - and this cracked me up, my girlfriend really liked it. I mean, she had a great time. Which, honestly, was enough for me - Cause just her getting a kick out of it was worth the price of the tickets.

Me? I was a little bored honestly. I liked the first one a little better. I did find, however, that it was much easier to tell the Autobots/Decepticons apart during the fights in this movie ( it was difficult for me in the first one ). Which helped a great deal in the enjoyment factor.

My issue, besides Megan Fox being completely horrible, was that there wasn't enough emotion for me. I was lots of things blowing up, and cool special effects and people running in slow motion - all the key elements for a great summer blockbuster - but there was no emotion to back it all up and get me sucked into caring about the characters.

Also, no lie here - Megan Fox was horrible. And why was she constantly sweating? Like, even when she's just standing in a room? And no one else was sweating, at least not nearly as much. I know, she's the eye candy of the film, and she's supposedly gorgeous ( sorry, no, don't see it ) but really, she can't act.

So, since my girlfriend loved it, likely we'll be going to see it again, and I'm going to have to get her an Optimus Prime t-shirt for her birthday.

i jut dont know what you mean about megan fox, i believe she may well be a contender for an oscar this year. :P

i actually liked it, taking it as a blockbuster summer movie with no depth and no actual scrip worth talking about, it did look good on the bg screen. as mentioned before though i am unsure how it will transfer to the small screen for the likes of brice (asbo anyone?:wtf:)

tbh, the main complaint i have was the same as yourself with the whole megan fox thing, even mr c got bored of seeing her sex doll impressions.

for me though, i prefered the first one for the story line and the one liners
although bumble bee will always be my hero:huglove:

Candy... high-five over Bumblebee :couple: He's my favorite... maybe, also, that's why I liked the first one more, he had better "lines" in the first movie!!

Aww. Can you be my girlfriend, too? Well, I also got one for my ex Lasse, who's one of my BFFs. He loves it <3

In fact, I watched RoF last Tuesday with him. We both felt queasy and dizzy after the movie - too much unnecessary.. what's the word? where camera moves on the track? you know? good. Let's go on. (ha! I found the word! a tracking shot. dur.)

Lasse complained that it was pretty bad a movie, and I have to agree - particularly because of Megan Fox. bleeeergh. But yet I'm always happy to see Bumblebee, Ironhide and Optimus Prime, my favorites. And Devastator was pretty scary. :shudder:

this was THE main problem for me, the rest i quite enjoyed - even the fox trying to act(because it amused me (yes yes small things and all that))
but the twirly shots really got to me, so much so i kinda lost what was being said. Hey, you never know there may well have been a decent script in there and i missed it due to swirly sickness:fairy:
