I was always afraid of them. The funny thing is that they exist and work to make children laugh and cheerful. *shiver*
Could any of you laugh at them as a child? Who the blue hell can find them funny at all?
For me they always seemed to be very sad and scary.
I don't like them these days, either.

I never got why people are afraid of clowns. I'm ambivalent about them, I don't find them all that amusing, but I'm not frightened by them either.

Letti

Are they funny for you???
I don't say they are horribly scary but they as scary as a crazy dog, for example.

Daghain
08-14-2007, 11:45 AM
No, not really funny either. I just don't really care about them at all.

i have a strong fear of them. ever since i was a kid. i saw a regular guy at a festival this past week, and he only had a red clown nose, no makeup. he was throwing bowling pins in the air and walking in our general direction.

i still put my head down and could not look into his eyes.

it's completely irrational.

Darkthoughts

I think it could stem from the fact that many clowns, like many teachers, are often adults who don't actually like children. That comes across in their work - hence scary clowns. Thats just my theory :D

Mike Beck
08-14-2007, 11:50 AM
i always felt that if they were really happy, why do they have to paint a smile on their faces?

because they have something to hide, that's why. :(

LOL - good and yet, sinister point!

Daghain

Pennywise didn't even scare me. That's probably why I didn't enjoy It very much.

pennywise didn't scare you??

I think Deep Thoughts, by Jack Handy says it all for me.

To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus, and a clown killed my dad.

Daghain

pennywise didn't scare you??

Not at all. I just don't get the scary clown thing. I mean, I guess if you were traumatized by a clown by a child I could see it, but still. It's a clown.

A clown is never just a clown. There is always a person behind it...

Daghain
08-14-2007, 12:47 PM
Exactly. Which is the same reason I'm not scared by people in costumes. There's a person behind it. :)

For my post I am always afraid of people. (I mean if I am scared I am scared by a person.)
Monsters vampires ufos and stull like that can't make me scared.

Daghain
08-14-2007, 12:55 PM
If a person was physically or verbally threatening me, then yeah, I'd be scared. But if he or she just dressed up as a clown or a monster or something and walked around, it would't bother me a bit.

Your point is absolutely healthy and understandable and I agree with it.
Still I can't stand clowns.

 Clowns have never scared me much, except for Pennywise :shudder:

Although my high school boyfriend was terrifyed of them, ever since he was a little kid who went to the circus. A clown was walking up and down the stairs of the arena preforming tricks when he tripped and fell down them. He landed right next to my ex's seat and looked up at him with blood pouring down his painted face going "Hellllpppp meeeeeee". No wonder he was scared to death of them, that would scar me for life too.

I must have told this before but I will do it again.

When my first child was born, her Great Grandfather sent her the scariest (imo) clown doll I had ever seen. Its whole set up was as frightening as it got.

For a few days after that, I dreamed it was stalking me and I swear to Bob it was never in the same place in her room. Remember: She was a very small infant at the time.

So one night I locked it in my trunk. The next day it was back in her room :scared:

I asked my ex-wife about it---she said she had nothing to do with it but I think to this day she was fucking with me.

So I put it in a trashbag with rocks and drive it out to the reservoir in the middle of the night and dropped it from the damn.

18 years ago and I still worry about it coming back

count me in. A bear (especially with a Kalashnikov) is something anyone could do with. (the excitement might help for that migraine, too)

I found coulrophobia. Which, of course, amounts to the same: though shall not suffer a clown to fuck things up.

Even without a Kalashnikov and with a migraine I believe I can talk him to death... it's in fact the only weapon I have or ever had... but it's reliable.

Storyslinger
10-22-2007, 07:19 AM

I believe both spellings are correct for that phobia. I could be wrong though.

I think clowns are funny. I think they're especially funny when I'm at a family party and a little loaded and they bust out with their bag o' tricks. :) The only problem I have with them is that I've never had the chance to see the ole' pumpkin-pie-to-the-face gag in real life. {tear}

10-24-2007, 06:53 PM
oh my god
they are fucking terrifying.
there's a McDonald's on the way home from
my night class. There's one of those big
jungle gym play ground thingies in the front near the street
and there's a HUGE computer animated Ronald head
on a banner hanging from the ceiling looking down
at the gym/street. it is the scariest picture. i can't even
describe it. it's like charlie the choo choo he's smiling
but, really it's some crazy, evil grimace...
like after he smiles
he's going to fucking bite you... vampire style
and there's nothing you can do about it.
normally, Ronald doens't bother me as much
as other clowns (maybe because he's just so ubiquitous) but
that picture is the stuff of nightmares i tell you.

what's really bad, is when you see clowns
in person though...
i was at a city park once and a whole shit load
CONVENTION of clowns showed up and started taking a
bunch of pictures.
who the hell were those people?
what's under all that creepy makeup?

seriously. clowns are not cool

Matt
10-25-2007, 02:08 PM
