Some people follow comic artists from one project to another. I'm not really like that. I follow my favorite writers, and hope a good artist comes with them. But there are a few exceptions, a few artists whose work I love so much I'll follow wherever they go, and one of those few exceptions was Mike Wieringo. A man with a classic style but with more energy and vitality to his artwork than any dozen of the current "hot" guys. He was a masterful artist, one that elevated every book he worked on. He took the Flash beyond the speed of light, brought Robin to the skies, sent Spider-Man swinging and made the Four fantastic once again.

Mike Wieringo passed away this weekend of a heart attack at the age of 44.

The comic book world is already more hollow a place.

That's a shame , I met him a few years ago at Comic Con and got a wonderful drawing from Tellos, He was one of the nice ones:cry:

Do you still have that Tellos sketch? There's a group of people that are trying to collect convention sketches from him to put up a memorial booth at the Baltimore Comicon. If you've got it, would you be willing to scan it in and send it to them?

How sad that a gifted artist passed away so young.
