How did you discover the Dark Tower?

Well... my first King book was The Stand. After that, I found some of the DT books in the local library. I was hooked right from the very first sentence of The Gunslinger.

Who is your favorite charcter?

Argh, hard question! Honestly, I love 'em all. They're like family to me. But if I was absolutely forced into choosing a favourite, it has to be Roland.

What is your favorite book?

Of the DT - Wolves of the Calla.
By King generally - The Stand.

How old are you?

21.

Where are you from?

Hailing from Jersey, down in the Channel Islands. (That's next to France if you don't know - don't worry, no-one ever knows!)

do you have a nickname?

Real name is Nicole. I'll answer to that or Nix, not fussed really.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
My mother always read books from Stephen King, and as a kid I was always fascinated with the artwork inside The Gunslinger, Drawing Of The Three, Wastelands, etc. because it didn't seem to fit any genre. She died before the series was completed, So in the summer of the year book 7 was released, I read them all in tribute to her.

Who is your favorite character?
Roland, or Oy. It's hard to pick one..

What is your favorite book?
Wastelands

How old are you?
32

Where are you from?
North Carolina, USA

Do you have a nickname?

Hello. Some of you may or may not remember me from DT.net. I didn't post a whole heck of a lot over there.

I had noticed that the site disappeared and with the release of the new arc of the comics, I finally decided to search around and see what happened. I read through the thread in the collectors section and think I'm up to speed now. I'm recognizing a few familiar names around here as well.

I'm currently part of about a dozen different message boards (mostly SK or sports related) so I'll be adding this one to my list.

For those that don't know me:

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I had been reading SK books for a few years when one of my co-workers let me borrow her copy of the Gunslinger. I was hooked instantly. This was right around the time Wizard and Glass came out so I had to suffer through with everyone else for the newer books to finally come out.

Who is your favorite charcter?
Roland

What is your favorite book?
In the DT universe it's probably the last book. Out of the entire SK collection I always liked Christine.

How old are you?
30

Where are you from?
Rockford, IL

do you have a nickname?
Never had one that stuck.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
My older brother and his girlfriend gave me a copy of IT for Christmas back in '03. Not too long after I finished it and told my brother's girlfriend I really liked it, while I was fiddling around on the computer one afternoon, my brother came down and gave me some other King novels to read, one of them being the expanded edition of Gunslinger.

Who is your favorite charcter?
Eddie

What is your favorite book?
Oy (hmmm, I might need to find a new expression to use when posting on here :p) a tough one. The Drawing of the Three I suppose.

How old are you?
Nineteen... :D

Where are you from?

Whats up my fellow DT junkies, nerds, and addicts? Ive been a member since Nov 07 but havent posted much. You all seem like a pretty nice group of people, now that Ive read through alot of these threads. Anyhow, here is my info...
How did you discover the Dark Tower?
Ive been reading Stephen King since I was a young teen, I knew about the DT series but was afraid to commit to such a large series of books. That is until Sep 07 when I could no longer resist. I am now on Wolves of the Calla.

Who is your favorite charcter?
Tough question, Id have to say Roland.

What is your favorite book?
So far, out of the DT series I would say either The gunslinger, or Wizard and Glass. Before I started the DT series I really enjoyed Desperation and The Regulators. I dont think many people share my opinion, but I thought they were great.

Hello all!
The name's Sarah Jane.
I just stumbled on this site and was browsing around a bit. It looked like too much fun NOT to join :)
How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I asked a friend for a book recomendation - he said Stephen King and I was turned off but went to Barnes and Noble anyways. I sat down with the Gunslinger and about an hour and a half later realized I was more than halfway done and had better buy the first 4 books because I knew I wouldn't be putting them down any time soon... I read them in a week and a half. Ha.
That's my favorite thing about the books - they are impossible to put down because you get so INVOLVED! And that's my favorite kind of book. Hands down.
Who is your favorite charcter?
I'm gonna go with Eddie. He's a hardass but a really great guy once you get to know him. And funny, SO funny!
What is your favorite book?
Wizard and Glass - getting Roland's background history was excellent (and necessary)
How old are you?
19 - a good age, don't you think :)
Where are you from?
Omaha, NE

I didn't see these questions when I said Hi here. Not that it matter much but anyhow...

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

I saw the books for a while in the shop, but it took me a while to decide to buy them. Actually it was the Ludd reference in Rose Madder that got me interested. I was peeking at the back of the Waste Lands and saw Ludd mentioned and it was a case of "That's the reference."
You know the bit when Dorcas talks about the mounted heads outside the city of Ludd?

I figured it best to go to the beginning... and so here I am now. There you go. Most peoples least favourite King book got me into DT. Interesting anecdote (or not. I actually like Rose Madder though.)

Who is your favorite charcter?
I think Eddie. Very amusing character. Actually possibly a tie with Susanah. In faves I mean not amusement. Although she had her moments in Detta mode.

What is your favorite book?
Difficult to say as I like a few in different ways... but probably The Waste Lands.

How old are you?
I wasn't even too sure the other day. I thought I was 31 going on 32 but aparently I'm 32 (33 later this month.) Shows I'm getting on if I'm forgetting my own age right?

Where are you from?
London England.

do you have a nickname?
Not really any more. I used to get called Marble or Marbles as a kid. (Corruption of my actual surname.)

S.Brewedr, since you worked at a comic shop did you manage to get your hands on any of C&C's Bag End comics? I wish I had some copies, they've been really hard to find in my area.

The original #1 Second Stage comic is pretty much impossible to find, #2 isn't as hard to find but still takes some looking.

The Amory Wars #1 - 5 came out the middle of last year and it pretty much reprinted the original Second stage comics, but I believe this will help you out...

Hi all :)

Guess I'll dive in with my answers too!

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
About 10 years ago I found a copy of The Gunslinger somewhere - I don't remember where now. It was quite tatty at the time, and is literally falling to pieces now! I read it then and thought it was ok, but didn't like it as much as SK's 'regular' stuff, so I never went back to it, until.... about 2 months ago I had to go back to my mum's to stay with her while she had an operation. My copy of TG was still there, so I picked it up and started reading it for something to keep me occupied. This time round I was hooked! Have just finished WaG, and have ordered Wolves from Amazon. I know bits of how the series ends, because I'm terrible at keeping away from spoilers, but even so I am still going to love finishing the journey

Who is your favorite charcter?
Roland, especially in WaG, or Oy

What is your favorite book?
So far, Drawing of the Three

How old are you?

Hello Fellow King Fans! My name is Robert Kreh, and I am an Indie Film maker currently residing in Tampa Florida.
I recently received permission from Mr. King to adapt his short story Cain Rose Up from his collection Skeleton Crew. Under the dollar baby deal, I am unable to seek traditional investment as this is a non-profit project. So I am here to ask for your help in making this a reality! Every dollar counts as I am trying to raise quite a bit of cash, but there are oppurtunities for those who donate to receive screen credit, and become part of Stephen King Dollar Baby history.

For more info, or to just check out the teaser trailer, cehck out the new site dedicated to the project:

www.cainrising.com

I appreciate all of your support, and I am dedicated to producing a short film that is faithful to Mr. Kings work.

Hey guys.......... I've always been a King fan and I was introduced to the Dark Tower series by a friend of mine. He lent me The gunslinger and i read it in a couple of hours. i had some time off from work and i spent it hunting afor all the other tower books and read them all except the last in two weeks. I'm still not ready to touch the final book coz it would signify two things;

1. its time for me to leave Roland's ka-tet and
2. some people will have to die..... people i've gotten attached to and don't wanna lose.

I'll let y'all know when i do read it.

Welcome Valentyne, and I understand where you are coming from completely. DT7 is the hardest of the books to read (and it happens to be my favorite, go figure) and not wanting to leave this ka-tet that you think of as your friends and family is very, VERY hard.
Jump right in on the chat about the other books though, more insights from new folk is not only welcomed but encouraged. :harrier:

I was a long time member of DT.net, I became part of the community, and it's gone now and I kind of miss it. I LOVE the DT books, i've never read anything better. I used to think there was something just not right about that kid Jake.
I did pick up issue 7 of the comic book, and to tell the truth, I thought it kind of sucked. There was no mention of Roland travelling through the wizards glass. How can you have an adaptation and leave out the climax to the story? It doesn't make a damn bit of sense.
Anyway, I am here, and I hope to run into some old friends.

Ok, I might give it a shot.
From what I gathered in issue seven, they made it a regular western, taking away what makes DT fun, the interdimensional time travel.

How did you discover the Dark Tower? I found the book in a pile of books at my nephew's house. He said he didn't even know he had it. I love SK and have read most of his works. The first time I read this book I found it a bit odd and hard to hang onto. It was years before I read The Drawing of the Threeand thankfully have been addicted ever since. I went back to the first one and re read...It is different but I love it too.

Who is your favorite charcter? It has to be Roland although I love a joker so Cuthbert is very attractive.

What is your favorite book? IT I guess is my fav SK book but if I have to choose one from the series it would be The Waste Lands

How old are you? 39

Where are you from? Upstate NY

do you have a nickname? Well not really, I guess Cheri is my nick

How did you discover The Dark Tower?-I was just browsing the new books section of the library where I lived at the time and I saw Dark Tower VII sitting on the shelf. So I picked it up, read a page and a half and realized this was awesome. So I searched for the other tiles first not wanting to start with seven, and the rest is history.

Who's your favorite character?-Definately Roland, but I have to say that a very sick part of me is partial to Mordred.

What is your favorite book?-Dark Tower VII

How old are you-I am nineteen at the currant time (now that is creepy)

Where are you from-Originally I am from a town in upstate New York called Cortland.

Do you have a nickname?-Yes, people call me Jericho

Hello there

I was searching sites about The Dark Tower, and ended up here. Although my English is not perfect, I got most of the things here, and really loved the posts, the people, and more important, the themes. You can be really creative, really in deed. If I make any terrible mistake writing here, please correct me, for, as I said before, my English is far from being perfect, and I would like to improve it. Then, these things said, to the introduction:

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
It's an interesting fact, to say the truth. I was at Wallmart and then saw "The Gunslinger" on a shelf and felt compelled to read it. People say that you cannot judge a book for its cover, but when I noticed the name, the author, I thought I should read at least one or two pages. Of couse, then I bought it.
Who is your favorite character?
Maybe a little clichê, but Roland is an excepcional character in every single way. He's not that moral knight, but has principles, even thought they disapear when they get between he and the Tower. I liked Mordred at the first because I had read T.H White's books (he's not a hero, far from that, but an interesting character), but Mr. King really made him (literaly) a monster. But Roland goes even more. Sometimes it's dificult to me not to think "what Roland would do in this situation"; he's much more than a character to me. He transcended this concept.
What is your favorite book?
I like to read everything, but the only books which really made me get a little mad were the ones from "The Dark Tower".
How old are you?
Old enough not to tell you ("Vulnerant omnes, ultima necat" - what can we do, time does not stop)

It scares the hell out of me that the status quo relies on the Danish study.

Ford,

There are many ways to get to the PM screen. You can go to the profile page for the person you wish to PM and click on the link that says "Send a Private Message to ***", or you can simply click on the "Private Messages" link at the top right of your screen. This will take you to your inbox and you just click on "Compose New Message". In this instance you will need to type the name(s) of the recipient(s) in the To box.

Hope this helps. :D

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I was 9 when I started reading the Tower series. My dad is a fisherman and keeps lots of books on his boat, I happened to find the SK ones. At a time when the best books I could find were The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew, SK's books just really intrigued me. I read one, then the all I could find off my dad's boat and home with me, and I haven't let go of them since.

Who is your favorite charcter?
Roland, of course.

What is your favorite book?
I would have to say DTVII, because I waited my whole life for it to come out. The anticipation made it oh, so much better.

How old are you?
29

Where are you from?
I grew up in Canaan, Maine, about 30 minutes away from the King. I now live in North Carolina, in the middle of everything, but close to nothing.

Hey everyone...I used to be over at tdt.net, and found this site while looking for information about .net...I noticed a lot of familiar names, so I went ahead and joined up. =p You'll probably find me almost exclusively at the Riddles section.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I can't rightly remember...I believe it was a friend that just wouldn't shut up about them until I read the series. =) Good thing he didn't give up on me.

Who is your favorite charcter?
That's a tough one...I don't think I can decide, but I COULD narrow it down to Eldred, Oy, or Flagg.

What is your favorite book?
That's another really hard one...ermm.....I think I'll just go ahead and say that the final three, bundled together, are my favorites.

How old are you?
23.

Where are you from?
Kopperston, WV

Do you have a nickname?
