Hello everyone! I have been looking for a forum like this for a while, since many of the people I know in real life aren't huge fans of Stephen King, or authors I am interested in. I felt like it would be nice to talk more about the King universe and just talk to like-minded tower fans.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

I discovered it in a used bookstore and the title Gunslinger sounded kinda cool. Introduced me to a whole new universe!

Who is your favorite character?

Eddie, definitely Eddie no doubt about it.

What is your favorite book?

I don't think I can answer this one, there are too many. For the Dark Tower series it's definitely The Wastelands though.

Where are you from?

I am from the Netherlands

do you have a nickname?

how did you find this site?

Hey guys, I already introduced myself, and recently I tried to join a couple of discussion in Cara Laughs under The Institute and Four past midnight, and when I posted it told me the messages still needed to be approved by the moderators. I completely understand this, but I still can't see my own posts and I still don't have access to look at things like my profile.

I read through most of the way station, but I have a feeling I am misunderstanding something or doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated! :)

Thanks in advance.

Hi everybody! Here I present myself :)

How did you discover the Dark Tower? If you mean the forum, I just typd "stephen king" forum on google, if you mean the books, I started reading S.K when I was a teenager, I tried the first book back then and I didnt like it very much. Last summer, I gave it another try and I loved it... so much that I read all the books link in 3-4 months one after the other

Who is your favorite character? Hard to choose... but I'll say Eddie

What is your favorite book? From The Dark Towe Saga... another tough question... The Dark Tower, last one, it made me cry for the first time while reading a book. From S.K... IT is my favourite so far

How old are you? 35

Where are you from? Spain but living in Austria, so pardon my grammati mistakes :)

do you have a nickname? not really

how did you find this site? Oh now I see that the question above was about the books, well, like I said, typing "S.K forum" on google

Like I read in some other post, I dont really know anybody who likes S.Kings books as much as I do, except maybe for my bf, who has only read the Dark Tower Saga, so I thought it would be nice to chat about the good or not so good books with other fans.

Read you soon!

How did you discover the Dark Tower? I first started reading Stephen King when I was 9 or 10. Eyes of the Dragon, Cycle of the Werewolf, and a couple others that my parents thought were okay for a precocious kid to read. I stumbled upon an illustrated copy of The Gunslinger on my mom's bookshelf when I was around 14 or so, and I've been hooked ever since. Just recently started the series again for the 5th time.

Who is your favorite character? Tough call. I love them all, each for their own reasons. Probably have to go with Eddie as my overall favorite, followed closely by Jake.

What is your favorite book? In the series, it's Wizard and Glass. Something about the doomed love story really spoke to me when I first read it as a lonely-in-love high school kid. Second favorite is The Dark Tower...man, that ending!

How old are you? 39

Where are you from? Kentucky

do you have a nickname? nope

how did you find this site? Looking for a side-by-side comparison of the original vs the revised version of The Gunslinger. Found a great post here that really laid out the differences, and decided I want to join the conversation.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
Found a copy of The Gunslinger in our local library in the mid 80s and borrowed it thinking it was a western (I was into those then). Even though the book wasn’t what I expected it was a great read; a man on a quest suddenly becoming guardian to a scared boy. Many years were to pass until I found a paperback copy of The Drawing of the Three – it was expensive, but I remembered how good the previous one was that I had read years before. I read this book a countless number of times – wow it sure cannot get better than this? Found the rest of the books a couple of years ago and last year bought The Wastelands for my Kindle (eyes aren’t what they used to be for books). Didn’t start reading it until mid 2019 and couldn’t put it down, I’m halfway through the last one now.

Who is your favorite character?
Jake, definitely. He is a bit of an enigma – he is aged 11 (12 by the time he gets to Calla), small for his age (maybe the size of a 9 year old), he had blue eyes (and presumably blond hair as this is a common combination). He is intelligent does well at school, but has none of the life experiences of the other members of the ka-tet (apart from having died twice). He is a boy with a dog (bumbler) and enjoys playing childish games (with Benny Slightman at Calla), but he appears fearless and is always in the thick of the battle. He does not shirk from killing and behaves like a man, but when it’s finished he reverts to a sensitive boy who is not afraid to cry publically when he is sad. The developing bond between him and Roland culminates in their accepting each other as father and son. Jake finally fearlessly lays his life down for his father’s quest; “tell my father I love him” - Maybe he’s the son I never had?

What is your favorite book? The Wastelands

How old are you? 61

Where are you from? Yorkshire, England

Hello. I am new to the site and came here hoping to find other DT fans who may have some issues of the DT comics that I am still lacking! Thanks for letting me join.

I first started reading SK when I was 15 years old. I read 'Salem's Lot on a bus from California back to my home state of Utah. I was reading at night and I swore that there were vampires outside my bus window! When I finished reading that, I was hooked and haven't been able to quit since.

I began collecting 1st edition hardbacks of all of his books a few years later when I became an "adult" and had a few dollars that I didn't need for bills. I currently have all of his books (just the trade releases) in 1st HB and a few S/L. My pride and joy is the "coffin edition" of The Stand. I got lucky and found that, the limited editions of Skeleton Crew and The Talisman and the 1st of The Gunslinger and a signed 1st Carrie.

My addiction has since branched off into the DT comics and have been having a REAL hard time finding the last 15, or so, editions that I need to complete the collection!

Thank you for the welcome. Any chance of some guidance on where to find DT comics being offered for sale?

I might have what you’re looking for, PM me a list of what you need.
P.S. welcome to the Dt.org club 👍

Hello everyone my name is Connie and i am a rather new fan of the DT Series but it already has me deep in it's dark claws so to speak. I am a huge Stephen King Fan since like forever but only recently i started to read more of his stuff as i now have more time on my hands. IT is one of my favorite Novels as well the Shining. The DT Series is the most recent book series from King that i got into and i still enjoy it even now that i have read through all seven books. Hope i can find some nice likeminded people here :) English isn't my first language but i try my best to write that everyone can understand me ^^.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?: A friend recommended me this series and well, i am glad he did, because ever since i literally search the whole web for lore about the DT Series

Who is your favorite character? :Maturin(because i love turtles and i like his laid back attitude which i kind of share)

What is your favorite book?: Drawing of the Three

How old are you?: 29

Where are you from?: Germany

do you have a nickname?: Connie

how did you find this site?: Searched the web for it and found it so i decided to join of course ~

Hello all!

My name's Sean and I'm a book addict. Been lurking for a bit (well that sounds creepy...) and got sick of thinking "I should really create an account to reply to this thread" and finally created an account.

I'm a lover of horror, fantasy, and science fiction. I'm an AVID collector of Cemetery Dance, Suntup Editions, and Grim Oak Press (and Letterpress Publications, though they are only on title #2). I also collect from PS Publishing, Subterranean Press, and Centipede Press, though I'm not able to buy as many titles as I would like.

I'm from Buffalo, NY. And I hope that everyone is doing well in these crazy times!

Cheers!

I'd probably have to say Robert McCammon and Joe Hill within the horror genre. I've been on a pretty good Joe Abercrombie and V.E. Schwab kick for fantasy. And I'll always have a spot in my heart for the older works of Dan Simmons, no matter how politically charged his Facebook tirades have been of late.

As far as favorite novels, I'll have to go with my landmark novels:

The Eyes of the Dragon and Ender's Game, for having gotten me interested in reading in middle school.
The Road, for having gotten me OBSESSED with reading in high school.
The Princess Bride and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, for having helped me get through a very difficult time in and post college.
Hyperion, for having gotten me hooked on audiobooks.

Hi, everyone! I've lurked around here off and on for years, but I don't think I've ever actually posted anything before.

I'm a lifelong King fan and lover of pretty much anything horror related. Although I've transitioned to reading mostly on my Kindle, I do still love "real" books, and especially well-made limited editions. I have a Suntup edition of Brother on the way and recently pre-ordered Letterpress's 20th Century Ghosts, and I'm currently reading If It Bleeds, of course, so I guess I just have books (and King especially) on the brain lately. What better time to say hi, right?

My area of work and study is the life and films of Stanley Kubrick...

A deep and interesting line of work.

A bit of shameless self-promotion, then :) I am the author of "Stanley Kubrick and Me: Thirty Years at His Side", the memoir of Emilio D'Alessandro, Kubrick's personal assistant. I co-wrote the screenplay of the documentary adapted from it, "S is for Stanley". My latest book is "2001 between Kubrick and Clarke: The Genesis, Making and Authorship of a Masterpiece". The title is pretty self-explanatory, but it could be worth saying that it's the first book which analyses all the drafts of the screenplay to chronicle how the story for the film developed, and, by making use of the correspondence between Kubrick and Clarke, for the first time the book explores their intense and sometimes fraught relationship. There are lots of new information for '2001 experts' as well, such as Clarke's involvement in Kubrick's "A.I." project.

I have just finished writing an article about Stephen King and his disappointment with the Kubrick version of "The Shining". I researched it extensively, collating around 50 interviews with King and dozens of books and essays, and I think I have found a rationale behind his never ceasing expressions of dissatisfaction. I hope you all like it. It will be published soon in an online journal, so I'll post the link in the board somewhere.

Many thanks for all of you who kindly greeted me and welcomed my arrival on this group!
Cheers,
Filippo

Good evening, everyone. My name is Tony Donato, and I’m an active duty Marine EOD technician who is getting ready to hit my 20 years and retire next year. I’m a long time reader of Stephen King, and I started collecting about a year and a half ago. I kind of hit the road running and am hoping to one day complete my Limited Edition Dark Tower Set. I look forward to learning from the combined knowledge and experience that I’m sure can be found here.

I've always been very intrigued by this subject matter as I too, like King, I'm not a fan of the film. I look forward to reading it.

Welcome, Tony and congrats on your upcoming retirement. Great thing about military service. You still have your whole life ahead of you when you get out. There's a least one other Devil Dog that haunts these halls as well.

Thanks. It’s been real and it’s been fun but it has not always been real fun. I love what I do and the people I work with but I sure am looking forward to life on the outside. Semper Fidelis

My name is James. I was looking at another Stephen King forum but it seems no one talks about much there but the moderator had a post from here. I put a link to some guys listing from that page. He's got a lot to sell so I thought I'd help. I am just starting to get into collecting.

For those who expressed an interest in my article about King's dissatisfaction with Stanley Kubrick's version of The Shining, I am pleased to announce it's been published today and you can read it here: http://sensesofcinema.com/2020/the-shining-at-40/king-vs-kubrick-the-origins-of-evil/

I tried to be as exhaustive as I could, with thanks to a few members of this community who helped me trace some of the rarest King's essay on his book. I'd appreciate a feedback, from you King experts. Thank you very much and happy reading.

This is a fantastic piece! I did not know about Kubrick's take on the spiritual afterlife and hearing King's thoughts on it, I agree that that may have derailed the entire movie. Jack is never sympathetic character in the book, has no arc, and is even denied the redemption at the end of the film that makes the ending of the book so good. Using the lens King has would have made for a much better movie, if done right. I still enjoy many aspects of the movie, but less so the more I notice the things that are off, in general, largely from that lack of thought throughout about the ghosts and the creation through that lens. I loved reading about King's explanation of the Wendy finding JAck's MS scene and how Kubrick missed the payoff...big time! This was very well researched and done! Thanks for sharing!

Thank you! Very happy you enjoyed it. I love Kubrick's film, but I absolutely understand King's point of view. I don't think he wrote a good script for his TV adaptation, though. A good King's version of The Shining is yet to be done, I think. Not that I would necessarily wish to see it... but you get my point. Again, thanks for your appreciation of my research and writing.

Hi, everyone! Even though I read my first Stephen King book over 30 years ago I just started my journey along the path of the beam this summer and I’m currently on Book VI (actually finished WotC this morning!)

Loving the series and characters so far and I’m having fun becoming obsessed. Have already started trying to track down the hardcover editions of the Tower books and grabbing copies of the other novels that tie in.

That was a great read, thank you!

I completely understand King’s feelings about the film but still find it brilliant if I look at it as a separate entity. It’s extremely effective to those who haven’t read the book and it’s a masterclass in cinematography.

I personally think a filmmaker has an obligation to stay true to an adaptation’s origins (within reason of course as film is a more limited medium) but if they are going to stray then they had better put something great on the screen. I think Kubrick succeeded but most fail miserably. I’ve never been more happy a film didn’t get made than I was after watching the “Jodorowsky’s Dune” documentary. What a drug fueled pretentious mess that would have been.

my full name is Przemyslaw Grajewski, and when i was listening to the books for the 4th time something random struck me, and I counted letters in my name...
Today when I was thinking about reading Space Trilogy by CS Lewis I came across the fun fact.. although, not sure how fun it is.. CS Lewis wrote "The Dark Tower" story. did not finish it, and his editor, Walter McGehee Hooper, publish it. Counted letters in his name, so I did...

Yer bugger.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

Web searching for info about editions of Eyes of the Dragon.

What is your favorite book?

By Stephen King, probably Eyes of the Dragon, but Gunslinger is a close second, and I have fond memories of both Needful Things and Tommyknockers.

I follow developments in the fine press world, off and on as an amateur, and I am consistently amazed by the devotion of King fans and level of activity around his books in the collecting world. I remember coming across info about the Dragon Rebound several years ago, and being completely blown away.
