Of all the books in the world, I've only collected/bought/stored TDT series. I feel like I have some good investment of my life waiting for the series to finish. After III I was left waiting for 6 years before the Blaine situation was ended. And again, 6 more years for V. V-VII were written in one big push by King.

Merlin1958

Yeah, that was a "journey" for sure!!! I envy the folks now a days that can read the entire series without waiting.

I've read somewhere that King jokingly wondered who would take longer to finish their series, he or Jean M. Auel.

Long time lurker, first time poster. (Well, actually second time poster because I'm still waiting for my posts to appear. I first posted on a Neil Gaiman thread this weekend.)

I think the answer to the "how did you discover The Dark Tower" is most easily answered by saying that I saw the title on the "other books by King" page from another book by King. I know that the first time reading about Roland was Christmas of 1997 when my mom bought me a slipcased set of the first three books right around the time when book four came out.

Favorite character - that's hard to answer. It's hard to have a favorite anything but either Roland or Eddie.

Favorite book isn't a King book - To Kill a Mockingbird. Favorite King book would be ... whatever the next one is? :)

I'm old enough to know better.

Currently living in Tacoma, Washington. From a tiny town in California.

No known nicknames.

I've come across this site from various google searches over the years but never participated. It was mostly for research.

*Stands up* Hi, my name is Amanda and I am addicted to the Dark Tower... I am in the right place right? :emot-roflolmao:

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
Actually, I first stumbled upon it by accident. I was walking to the store and found a coverless book next to a dumpster. I cannot abide the waste of any kind of book. I picked it up and took it with me. I almost didn't read it because of the title. (I despise westerns for some reason) But of course I read it and have been hooked on it ever since.

Who is your favorite character?

It's a toss up and it is mood dependant. Most of the time it's Roland But occasionally it's Jake.

What is your favorite book?

Of the series? The 4th one <Wizard and Glass> Of Stephen King? The Talisman Of other Authors? Either American Gods by Neil Gaiman or Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

How old are you?

32 years

Where are you from?

I currently live in Moore, Oklahoma but I was born in New York, raised in Florida.

do you have a nickname?

Panda or Red (which I secretly prefer)

how did you find this site?

You know.. I am not really sure how I found it... I am just glad I did.

Hello. My name is Lincoln, I live in Melbourne, Australia.
I have recently 'returned' to SK's work, after a break of 20 years. He was the author that got me into horror, and 'Danse Macabre' pointed the way, as far as exploring the genre goes. It wasn't a deliberate descision to avoid SK, it just sort of happened, while I was discovering other authors. It was a Christmas present a few years ago that led me back - 'Full Dark, No Stars'. I absolutely loved it, and rediscovered the magic! I'm still terribly behind, of course, and re-reading 'Night Shift' and 'Skeleton Crew' hasn't helped!
Other authors I like, and collect, are Ramsey Campbell, Peter Straub, Charles L. Grant, James Herbert, Karl Wagner, to name a few. My favourite period is late 70's - late 80's.

Welcome, Travis!

Probably the best way to read the DT series is to start with The Gunslinger (I prefer the original one, not the Viking reprint) and go from there. A lot of people, though, have trouble with that volume. If you're one of them, start with The Drawing of the Three, then go back and try The Gunslinger again. Also, I like to leave DT 4.5 (The Wind Through the Keyhole) to the end.

WELCOME TRAVIS!!!

I like to start at the front the cover first...so I know the title to the book. From there I read front page to back page. It makes more sense that way. I find the story MORE interesting if I read from right to left (nothing against my Jewish friends.)

P.s. There MIGHT be a smartass or two on this site. Welcome.

Hi there. I'm Jeff and I've been reading King's books since the mid-1970s (yes, I'm that old). I found the first publication of The Gunslinger in 1984 in a 'bargain bin' at the old Maine Mall when I was working in Lewiston, Maine. I read it in one night and had to wait three long years until The Drawing of the Three. I've been noodling around this site and I'm impressed at the length and breadth of information available. In answer to the rest of the questions ... favorite character is Roland and the first book is still my favorite - I think it has one of the best opening sentences of any novel I've ever read ("The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed.") I'm originally from Boston, but now live in Boulder, CO.

Hi my name is Regina and I am from Ohio. I had read several King books before I discovered DT series. I was at work and noticed a coworker reading a Stephen King book that looked like a western novel and I ask him about it. I can't remember exactly what he said this was late 90's and I don't remember the exact time I ended up reading it but I do remember not being immediately hooked. Then I read the Drawing of three and I was hooked. I read the rest of them very quickly up to the point I had to wait for the last of the books in the series to be released. It was torture waiting!:frown: This past year I listened to the audio books of all the DT books and really enjoyed it again. I don't know if I could pinpoint which one is my favorite but I did really enjoy Wind through the Keyhole. I guess The Dark Tower VII might be my favorite just because I really enjoyed Father Callahan and Patrick! I am 46 years old and I found this site from a forum from BIBLIO.com. I have recently started a Stephen King inspired book club in my community and we are excited to read and discuss King's works. :rose::rose::rose: Long Days and Pleasant nights.

Anyway, where to begin? My name is Lori, I live in Maine, my fave King book is IT. Long time King fan but very new to collecting anything besides the normal hardcovers. I don't do lettereds and only have a few limiteds and will only be collecting my personal King faves and not everything out there. I love seeing King collections though! I'm also looking forward to picking the brains of everyone when I am looking to buy something. Also a big Joe Hill fan with a few limiteds.

Hi there!

I'm Susie, aged 41, I live with my two teenage kids in Germany South in
a town called Mannheim, that's near Frankfurt.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

- The Gunslinger I read in the 80s, but just a few years ago I found
that there are many more! I looked like O.O

Who is your favorite character?

- My favorite character in the DT is Oy. Never heard about such a
brave dog or dog-alike in any story before.

Non-DT, my favorite character is Carrie.

What is your favorite book?
- DT : Wolves of the Calla. I love the way they speak in the Callas, and
it's the book where many things happen and go on.

- Non-DT : my favorite book is Christine, because it had been my 1st Book
from Stephen King.

How old are you?

- I am 41!

Where are you from?
- As I said, from Germany South, Mannheim near Frankfurt.

do you have a nickname?

- Susie :)

how did you find this site?
- over Google Search, while doing recherche.

At least you have 4 choices. Most boards provide one and one only.

It's not yellow, it's RGB 255, 153, 51

Sometimes referred to as neon carrot.

I use the GrayFolio-BLACK. It's easier on the eyes.

John,

Waiting on a couple things. First, the 5 post threshold so I can put pictures in the proper board (for some reason I haven't been able to get my replies through the filters in Dutch Hill..). Second, I have some big pieces coming in the next couple weeks or so that I'd like to have in place before I go and show off.

I'd say my collection is really small-time, but I love it nonetheless.

Completely agree with, John. I consider myself a low end collector (not going after the really big value items) and I marvel at a lot of the great collections here. Stuff I know I'll never own but still happy for the folks that do and it's awesome to see personal photos of their loot rather than some stock photo or publishers description. Looking through the collection threads here is liking walking through a museum. And most of our fellow forum members have built these wonderful collections over a lifetime.
You'll develop your own thread for your collection as you go along. Be it Remarques, sigs, proofs/arc, promotion stuff, etc. Or you might just want it all! :).

I suppose that's one thing I'm really happy about; the fact that my collection is homogeneous and concise. I started out intending to keep it that way and it's funny because I think I'm far from alone. The collection takes on a mind of its own and you start to outdo yourself, consistently upping the ante. Used to be I only had a couple signed books here and there, nowadays I'm putting together matching numbered sets and the like. Has a way of creeping up on you.

Piece 1 of 2 arrived today. I'm so excited to show off soon.

I'm addicted to lots of things, but perfecting a collection at least isn't a complete waste of funds.

At least that's what I tell myself. And my books.

It is an addiction, not doubt about it. But there is value in said collecting as well.
