Hile!! Carl, son of Phillip here. Thought I'd join the forum for some discussion of the dark tower series, so um....Hi!!

How did you discover the Dark Tower?: A bit of an odd one really, as an avid fan of the series LOST, I use to go on some forums, and this one guy said there was a few similarity's to the dark tower. So I started reading them, got hooked, fell in love and am glad that I took the journey as Ka-Tet.

Who is your favorite charcter?: Cutchburt, just for being happy

What is your favorite book?: The Last Gunslinger. I love Wizard and Glass, but I think the first one still has me encapsulated, with Rolands story of defeating Cort, to MiB explanation of the multiverse, simply brilliant.

How old are you?: ??

Where are you from? UK

Hi Folks!
No longer the lurker and hopes to be a contributor. I stumbled on this website a couple of months ago and it has provided such a wealth of knowledge and experiences with other fans and collectors. I'm pretty sure this forum is responsible for me plunking down money for a limited Doctor Sleep and signed Joyland. So as much as the forum is a detriment to my wallet its been fun reading a lot of the threads and posts.

I wouldn't call myself a collector, I have lots of books but I'm more quantity versus quality (ie: the signed limiteds). I started reading King when I was 9, IT had been out for a little while and I found the cover art really grabbing. I had this thought if I could read a book that big I'd be in a sophisticated league of readers and way ahead of my fellow students in school. Those years when you want to grow up too fast right. So I went to the local library, got IT, read I think most of it, completely confused about the bulk of the story and wow did I learn some new language that would have my father taking my hide off for using (I refrained of course). Then I went to Gunslinger because ever since I was a kid I always had an admiration for wild west and this seemed like one in a sense. Read that one and stopped there.

So a few years pass, was reading more Asimov and crazy UFO books back in the Unsolved Mysteries days when that stuff was cool. A friend of my family had fallen ill, his eyes were failing him so he donated his books to me, they were a bunch of King books which had me excited. They were also full of Koontz paperbacks. I start reading some of his old stories and get just as attached as I did with some of Kings. Ever since both have been a huge space in my library. And of course since then I've added new authors that come up and dabbled other genres such as crime fiction.

My library is at about 780 hardcovers, growing constantly, not able to keep up of course but that is the joy of it all I find. My excuse to the wife is that I am saving for retirement and right now its all about collect and reflect and read what you can. I really look forward to the day when I pass 1000.

I look forward to participating in more threads, catch some sales (totally missed some books in the classifieds I'm kicking myself over), and by the way good to see some fellow Canadians on the board eh.

Cheers,
Highbury

Hello Everyone,
My names Randy, I live near Anchorage Alaska and I'm glad to be here. I ended up finding this site because I was just starting to collect Stephen King just a few months ago and was looking for something Dark Tower related on Google. I ended up here and read tons of posts and learned a ton. I was probably 1/2 way through Wastelands at that time. I didn't know that I was turning into a collector but I did know I couldn't put down my books about Roland and his ka-tet. Anyway I ended up getting into a little tree cutting accident that broke my back and so about all I can do is sit on my laptop while I heal (and wait to go back to my job in a medical related field) and learn about King Collecting, Cruise through Ebay and basically putz around online since I was confined mostly to a hospital bed or recliner. Well then Shannon announced he was going to have his sale and I had to have 5 posts in order to send him a PM. The rest is history, I joined, contributed some posts, spent some money with Shannon and got some stuff I needed and now I pretty much have been logged in ever since, although that will change when I go back to work in 2 weeks. I've met a few people and I have yet to find someone who wouldn't help answer a question or point me in the right direction. Everyone is super cool! It looks like everyone answers the same questions so I'll run through them......

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and loved the trilogy so I searched around for something else in a series to read. I like to read series otherwise I read through a single book to fast and I'm looking for something new. I had a paperback copy of the Gunslinger, saw there was 7 books in the series, read the intro and dove in.... Read it in a week and luckily had the next one so just kept on going. I'm still going. I found a list on this site that does a great job of laying out the King books in order they should be read for relevance to the DT... Cool, I have more to read.

Who is your favorite character?
Roland by far....

What is your favorite book?
I want to say Wolves of the Calla but it could easily be Gunslinger or Drawing of the Three

How old are you?
44 going on 30

Where are you from?
I've been in Alaska for 7 years. Came here from Idaho where I spent most my life.

Welcome Randy!!!

You will find lots of stuff to read from our great author. I don't know if you like to reread books but if you do you will find new things of interest each time. So many of his books have links or tie ins to his other work it is fun finding them all. Not all the links are DT related, but it's still fun to see them.

Glad you were able to get some stuff from Shannon's sale too.

Stumbling around this site and discovering more and more as I go. I've pseudo introduced myself in another thread, and found a very welcome response. I've been a Stephen King fan and collector for years now, I was introduced to Christine in my mid teens about a decade ago. There was no turning back after that.

At first I was buying every paperback novel of his that I didn't own, and then it became a collection and I gave away most of the paper backs and replaced them with hardcovers. Now I'm trying to replace all of those with first editions. So the sickness goes it seems. Prizes of my collection are a 1st Rage that I picked up at a used book store for $5 and my S/L copy of Joyland that's 1/724 (lucked out on that one!)

Looking forward to reading more on this site and getting to know the other members.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

I have been a Stephen King fan my entire literate life--basically, once I discovered the value of a book, I was addicted to the biggest, thickest volumes King could throw at me! I started the Dark Tower series last year, and slowly made my way to the end, savouring every character, every movement, every decision. I just finished The Dark Tower, and am having a serious starkblast of emotions--I feel like I was part of the ka tet! So I'm here for some emotional support ;-)

Who is your favorite charcter?

I'd have to say Susannah, as I felt she brought a warm, maternal quality to the ka tet as well as the type of strength and resilience only a woman (and perhaps a mother) could have. She made the whole thing feel so much more human, and I loved her energy.

What is your favorite book?

Wolves of the Calla, I think. I like how much closer it brought the ka tet, one of their most important battles. I also really enjoyed Pere Callahan's story. But it's difficult to say. The historical aspects of Wizard and Glass that told more about Roland's past were amazing, too.

How old are you?

32
Where are you from?

London, UK! But I am from New York City, so I found so much of the interaction with America-side and NYC fascinating.
do you have a nickname?

Thank you, pathoftheturtle, for assisting me in the clarification of my "condition"! I may well be an introverted IRL, but I must confess my ignorance; what does IRL stand for? I do appreciate the welcome. Well, back to the FAQs for me!IRL stands for "in real life," which stands for "activities when not on the internet." In a way, everything is real life, but that's the term and abbreviation regularly used by the "computer culture" for 10 or 15 years now. So, I was asking whether you think you're more outgoing when you're face-to-face with people. It's not necessarily wrong to use the web only for looking up things you might want to buy; some people prefer that. And some people just don't have extroverted personality types -- nothing wrong with that, either, once you get to know the person. I'm glad you chose to introduce yourself, and feel free to check out the different areas hereabouts. Whatever way you want to approach it, welcome to tdt.org!

And welcome to you, too, Bryan!

Thank you, Bryan, and Jean. It was just a few days later, maybe when I was washing my hair or something when it hit me! IRL! In the real world. I like "in the so-called real world! This has brought about some interesting self examination, and I've determined that I'm more introverted on the net! Why, you might ask? Everything is just so damn permanent! With so-called IRL there is no ongoing record of every dumb thing I say! Not so much on the net though . . .

Anyway, thanks for the welcome. I really enjoy this place!

And we all say things we regret or whatever from time to time I hold nothing against anyone even the biggest arseholes I know because we all have that side to us if we're honest enough with ourselves to see it. And I realise lifes too short for fall outs happy to finally be over all my health issues and in a position to take a couple days off work here and there and enjoy time with the kids . Greetings Dark Tower Forum!

This is my first post, and as one shouldn't just walk into a room and start spouting off about this or that without saying hello first, neither should one join a forum without making an introduction post. If they do, they have forgotten the face of their father!

First, here are the prompted questions and their answers:

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

In 7th grade, I started reading novels once my grandfather purchased Jurassic Park for me. The 7th grade comic book reader I was was surprised how much I loved it despite no pictures! I stuck with Crichton for a few books, and then tackled my first King novel, and picked a doosy: "It". After "It", I was hooked on King for a long time and read through many of his works in high school (also finding Clive Barker, Anne Rice, and more Crichton along the way). I eventually got to The Gunslinger, and found it to be "just okay" compared to other King stories. Eventually, I picked up The Drawing of the Three, though, and instantly began to LOVE the story. I promptly picked up The Wastelands as my very next book, and was by then a Tower Junkie, pining for when part IV would be released. When it finally came out, I re-read the other three, then the fourth. I've done that "ritual" each time a new book came out until the end. Now, with the recent The Wind Through The Keyhole release, I am doing that same ritual this summer.

Who is your favorite charcter?

Very easy question. Roland, hands down. In many ways, he was the hardcase that in my heart I wanted to be as a high school boy. But, after Roland, it's Eddie Dean. He's a very realistic character, coming from drug abuse to being a man of integrity and wit. Certainly Susannah overcomes much more throughout the story, but Eddie seems more realistic and better developed, in my opinion.

What is your favorite book?

Not an easy question. This, for me, changes. The first time through the first three, it was The Wastelands. It's lengthy, and the characters do a lot in the story. Through the first four, my second time reading, it's The Drawing of the Three. You get to see how much of a tough man Roland is, and the inventiveness of Roland being within the bodies of the three is very entertaining. Now, though, having read all seven (plus the 4.5th), truly book seven, The Dark Tower, is my favorite, as I felt it had (unlike some King books) a perfect ending.

How old are you?

Born in 1980, so 33 at the time of this post.

Where are you from?

Michigan

do you have a nickname?

No.

All that being said, it's nice to be here and I'm looking forward to reading both insights and speculations from the others here. I've mostly sought this out to get some questions answered that I still have about the stories. As a disclaimer, I haven't touched any of the comic books, so like many I've already seen here, I too don't consider them canon. However, since I haven't read any of them, I don't really have the option of treating them as canon or not! I may eventually decide to pick them up.

Thanks for your time in reading this, and I look forward to learning from the posts here.

Hile gunslingers!

I'm interested in finally collecting his books in the S/L editions and 1st editions. I also collect modern and Golden Age comic books and their original art as well as pop surrealism modern art. I'm glad to be a part of this community and look forward gaining new insights, information and friends!

Hile gunslingers. I am Stan Richards of Windsor. First and foremost, I am a huge fan of all things Dark Tower.
I am head admin and bureaucrat at The Dark Tower Wiki. You can check us out at darktower.wikia.com. Would be much appreciated.

Right then, down to basics.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I was an avid Stephen King fan, and truth be told, I never heard of The Dark Tower until I got my hands on The Drawing of the Three for Christmas of course, then I had to get the Gunslinger before reading it).

Who is your favorite character?
Tough. Everyone likes Roland. I love Roland. I also love Jake and Eddie. I also have a weird interest with Blaine.

What is your favorite book?
Is that a valid question? I have no favourite. However, my least favourite is probably Song. Mia is annoying.

How old are you?
20. Reaching Eddie's age.

Where are you from?
Windsor. No, not the U.K. one. I wish. Canada.
It's lame and too industrial. It's like a normal US city. Upper Canada is where I'd like to be.

Do you have a nickname?
Stan Richards is my online and writing name.

If I offended anyone, cry your pardon.
We were well met.

Hello everyone. I am new to this site (I've been exploring the site for a couple days, but just registered last night) and thought I would introduce myself.

I started reading SK at the tender age of 11 when strolling through the library stacks I spotted a copy of Cujo and thought, "I've heard of this. I should read it." After Cujo I was hooked and read everything I could get my hands on. We were living on a naval base in Italy at the time, so I was limited to what was available at the library and bookstore. I read SK hardcore for 3 years, but after that there was a long span of life getting in the way. I recently borrowed a copy of Under The Dome and was hooked again. I decided to continue my SK collection and while doing research online found this site. So many books I've never heard of! I have now set the goal to read all of Stephen King's works chronologically. Oh, and I haven't read any of the DT books, yet. And I'm 30. :)

Hile friends, may we be well met! My name's Jessie, and here's a little about me:

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I started reading King when browsing my step-father's book shelves. He has a number of his novels, including the first three or four of TDT. I was hooked right from the beginning of The Gunslinger.

Who is your favorite character?
This, is a really tough question lol. If it came right down to it, I probably would choose either Eddie or Cuthbert.

What is your favorite book?
Again, a really hard question lol. I'm currently rereading the series since I don't remember the story much from when I first read it in high school, but of the ones I've read so far (I'm in the middle of Wolves)... either Drawing of the Three or Wastelands.

How old are you?
24

Where are you from?
Vermont

Do you have a nickname?
My closest friends call me Rahlbert, which is a complicated story. Some of you avid fantasy readers may recognize part of it lol. Otherwise, people just call me Jess or Jessie.

Hey Jessie... Welcome.

Is the Rahl in Rahlbert a reference to the Sword of Truth series?

Haha, yes it is. Since you bit, I'll explain a bit more.

It comes from an online handle I've been using since 2008, ConfessorRahl, then KahlanRahl. I play a game called Cyber Nations and there is where I met most of my current ka-tet, if you will. People tend to shorten my name to Kahlan, KR, or most commonly Rahl. I don't know who started it, but Rahlbert has stuck with me ever since.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?Saw it on the books shelf at a B&N years ago. Read Gunslinger around 1990 or so I'd guess.

Who is your favorite character?
Cuthbert, maybe?

What is your favorite book?
I have yet to read all of the books and rereading The Gunslinger right now so I'd go with that one for now.

How old are you?
36
Where are you from?
Central Minnesota

Do you have a nickname?
I have a few:
Crowbait (last name is Crow)
Mighty Mouse (I'm short and built like Mighty Mouse)
Little Crow (after the Indian chief. Many people think I'm native and I'm not but those that know that use it as a short joke)

I took the Audio books of the dark tower series on Holiday to Egypt this summer. I have never read any books of the series so did not know what to expect. Last night I finished the last book and could not sleep!

Well, if it's the same Humphrey B Bear (aka - The Fun Loving Bear) then maybe not so much your type of bear Jean (then again, you strike me as the kind that will embrace all bears, irrespective of background)

Hiya! My name is Amanda. Or Panda, or if you are feeling really brave Red. I currently live in what in my opinion is one of the worst place ever Oklahoma Smack dab in the middle of it too. I've Just turned 30 (today actually) and thought it was about time to get out and meet other fellow fans. I mostly keep to myself because I am a serious home body who has a major fear of most people. I don't remember exactly how I stumbled upon Stephen King but I am sure glad I did. He helped me escape my self imposed dungeon and live a little. I for some unknown reason was afraid to get into the Dark Tower series (possibly because the last series I read <Wheel of time> just disappointed me after a while). I don't really just have one favorite character with in any of his books but Randal Flagg and his many faces has always intrigued me.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
My first Book ever from King was Eyes of the Dragon, I read it when I was ca. 12, awesome, unbelievable, get from all positive adjectives the highest rate than you got the right words of my Emotions on that Book!

Who is your favorite charcter?
All Characters have their postive and negative Sides, I can't say this is my favorite. It's more fascinating for me that a character have a development!
I think in kings Books there are no stereotypes, the characters ever have different sites, respectively have a development in the story.

What is your favorite book?
Ooooh that's difficult to answer, how many Time you got? Okay, some examples otherwise I write the Rest of my Life! Bag of Bones, Hearts of Atlantis, Salem's Lot (a wonderful one is the german from Zsolnay Publishers, amazing), Storm of the Century, Liseys Story, Black House, Duddits Dreamcatcher, Eyes of the Dragon, The Dome, IT, Dark Tower.....It would be shortened time when I say which books I don't like!

Well I checked my profile and I have been a member for over a year now and I have never posted in this particular thread. As I seem to be spending a lot of my time here lately I thought I'd better formally introduce myself...

My name is Simon, but 'Goblin' or 'Stroppy' is fine, may it do ya. I have been collecting for over 20 years, more seriously for the past 5.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

'The Gunslinger' was my 2nd ever SK book. I read it when it was first published in '82 as a book from the local library. I'd previously read 'Carrie' purely by chance as I picked it up at a friends house. I was a voracious reader in my youth, reading 5 or 6 books a week, focusing mainly on sci-fi classics such as Heinlen and EE 'Doc' Smith as well as Harry Harrison and other similar authors. My local library mixed horror with scifi so I happened to pick up Gunslinger. At first I thought it was a western but read half of it there and then - they were closing the library around me!

Who is your favourite character?

It's easy to say Roland, but I have a soft spot for Cort. I really enjoyed the expansion of his character when discussing the fairday riddles.

What is your favourite book?

Probably Wizard & Glass, but mainly because of the period with Blaine the Mono, which is split across the end of Book III and the start of Book IV. "The Long Walk' comes a close second - I have re-read this more than any other.

How old are you?

Born in '65 - so currently 47 (Go Garrety 47!! - Maines own!) (hah-that would have helped some of you in my recent riddle!)

Where are you from?

England - small town called Kenilworth in Warwickshire, nr Stratford upon Avon.

do you have a nickname?
yes

Hello, everyone. I had some trouble getting on, but finally got it worked out. Much thanks to Ben and RF for helping me. Some of you likely know me from the CD forums or the HWA forums, or Facebook. I was a graphic designer for 20+ years before following my dream, and pursuing writing full-time. I'm new to the book collecting business. I had some luck over at CD and won some money to spend on books. You can see my haul below. They produce some wonderful quality books. My primary interest in joining was to keep an eye out for replacement dust jackets, as when I was younger I had the bright idea of discarding mine. Yes, I know. Bad call. Anyway, I look forward to talking with many of you, and hope to share some of my other purchases, etc with you, as well.

Mornin' all, this is me introducing myself.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

I’ve been reading Stephen King on and off since my college days, and so, picked up copies of The Dark Tower books because I already liked his stuff.

Who is your favorite character?

Roland, I guess? I have yet to read past the first book in the Dark Tower series even though I have them all, so I‘m not too familiar with the characters and whatnot. (I don't get much time to read, but I'm planning on catching up with the series when I can!)

What is your favorite book?

I’m gonna have to say The Dark Tower provisionally, as that’s all I’ve read!

How old are you?

33

Where are you from?

England. Originally from near London and but have since relocated to the depths of the East Midlands.

do you have a nickname?

Yes. Reesh actually is my nickname!

Hi, another new guy here. I've been registered for a few months, but have been lurking for a little while, and had a login issue, which the webmaster graciously fixed a couple weeks ago. I've been a King fan since I was around 12 or 13 (41 now.) I wasn't never too into collecting until about 6 months ago when the company I work for, which is primarily in the furniture liquidation business had the opportunity to liquidate thousands of books, which we did and I started running a little book corner in our store. I didn't find many valuable or collectible books in the lots we bought, but, for reasons I can't really explain, being surrounded by so many books ignited a strong need to start collecting. At first I was able to subsidize my new addiction with sales from my store, but we lost our retail location and moved to a new one in a less desirable location so sales have been pretty slow lately, but that hasn't kept me from adding to my collection on a regular basis. I started with King, but quickly started branching out all over the map, so to speak. Ramsey Campbell, David J. Schow, Joe R. Lansdale, Robert Bloch, John Skipp and Craig Spector, Peter Straub, H.P. Lovecraft, and lots of horror anthologies. I also started picking up 80's horror paperbacks (mainly from what I call the post King boom) they don't have a lot of value, but I owned and read a lot of them as a kid, so there's a lot of nostalgia there. I'm also a big comedy fan and have picked up a few signed books by comics I admire like Don Rickles and Penn And Teller. So far my collection consists of about 1,250 books and I spend all my free time inventorying what I have for my store and cataloging my personal collection and find I enjoy it as much as one of my other hobbies, playing pool.

Welcome Nicklewise! You will find many members here that collect more than just King. (although not me :) )
1,250 books eh? That sounds like someone who should be posting pictures of their own collection in the collections thread... would love to see what you have

thanks Stroppygoblin! Pictures will definitely be forthcoming. I'm still looking at the tutorials here and figuring out how everything works, but once I get that all figured out, I'll be posting quite a few pictures, though I may have to buy a camera first. I've been taking a few pics for the Pinterest page with my phone for my store, but photography isn't one of my strong suits and they haven't been turning out too well so far.

I notice a lot of the activity here is old, but I thought I'd introduce myself. I just got through TDT for the first time. I did the whole thing on audio starting in December and finishing this weekend. All seven books in a little more than a month. Now it's over and I'm really not sure what to do with myself, ha ha. I'm glad to have found this forum. Reading through the ending thread has allowed some of my wounds to heal.

Wow, I did a bad job with the instructions!

Here are my answers:

How did you discover the Dark Tower? - I have been a fan of SK since childhood. I love audio books and for the past year I have been steadily working my way through King's canon. I finally decided to tackle the Tower. I am so very thankful that just this fall I read the Stand and Salem's Lot was the last thing I listened to right before the Tower. Ka must have known the right order. :)

Who is your favorite character? - Seriously, just one? Gut reaction to that question is Eddie, but it is so hard for me to chose.

What is your favorite book? I'll go with Drawing of the Three for now, but honestly it's all still so fresh it's hard to say for sure. I also really like wolves of Calla because I am a big fan of King's cross germination so I really liked seeing Pere Callahan again.

How old are you? 38

Where are you from? Virginia, US

Welcome, Ake! Ake!

Next you've got to read The Wind Through the Keyhole--it's book 4.5 in the DT series and great!

Thanks and I should have added that my actual name is Amy. The screen name just kind of came to me. Once I figure out the controls the avatar will most definitely match!

hi John,

Thanks, I know. I decided to take a semi break and so I got every things eventual and the skeleton crew. That way I can have some palate cleansers with a touch of mid world and then I'll do keyhole. After all seven books back to back and the end. I just need a little time.
