How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I found 'The Gunslinger' in an old used book store when I was 8, and was hooked after reading the first line. I must have read the first 3 twenty times each while waiting for 'Wizard and Glass'. I have been a tower junkie for 20 years now, I have read the complete series over a dozen times now and I find something new every time.

Who is your favorite charcter?
Susan Delgado, Eddie and Oy.

What is your favorite book?

Hello! I'm new here, and figured this was the place to start :)

I discovered Stephen King when I was a child - my mother used to read me his books at bedtime! When I first encountered The Gunslinger, I had no idea I would have to wait 25 years for the (unsatisfactory, in my mind) conclusion. I hope Ron Howard gets his ducks in a row and figures out a way to make the movie!

My favorite character is Oy, and I bawled like a baby over him, more than any other character, as the series wound down. I'm also fond of Blaine, even though he is a pain. :)

My favorite book in the series is The Gunslinger.

I'm from Key West.

I have a sizeable collection of Gunslinger ARCs and other rarities to unload - don't really want to, but Christmas is coming, and the bils never stop - (thanks to my EX-boyfriend, who couldn't be bothered to take them with him when he left), so if someone could point me to the appropriate forum for that, I would really appreciate it :)

Hope to get to know you all better!

Deb

You should be glad for that.

Now i have images of mom saying and this one's about this nice clown named Pennywise... Sweet dreams, dear! :scared:

Hi everyone,

My name is Anton (you can call me Wonton), I'm from Canada and I'm 20 years old.

I discovered the Dark Tower through my dad (who's been a fan since the 80s). I remember walking into a bookstore with him when I was 13 or 14 and seeing Wolves of the Calla newly released. He was excited to see the series continuing, and introduced me to the books. By the time the 7th book came out, I'd already read the first six and read the final book along with my dad.

Recently, I decided that the time had come to re-read the series. For some reason, The Gunslinger wasn't available at the library, so I started with The Drawing of the Three. I'm not a very avid reader (many books lose my interest 40-60 pages in), but when I started at 7 in the evening, I didn't stop reading until I'd finished at 4 am. I was hooked.

I read The Wastelands over the course of a week, and then picked up Wizard and Glass from the library. I remembered the story of Roland and Susan vividly (I'd bought The Gunslinger Born at a bookstore earlier this year - perhaps it was the catalyst for this whole thing), and was excited to experience it once again. Once I got past the opening with Blaine and Topeka, I couldn't stop reading - once again, I read for 9 straight hours. The story resonated with me far more than it ever had when I was younger (Stephen King's Romeo and Juliet, I kept thinking), and I was deeply affected by it. I cried at the end - far more than I'd ever cried at, say, Titanic.

Having slept on it now (I kept hearing bird and bear and hare and fish in several of my dreams), I realized that Wizard and Glass would remain one of my favourite books for the rest of my life. I don't know if my love for this book will permeate to the rest of the DT series, but I do know that I had to find some people to talk to who could understand my obsession with it (I started re-reading it on the train this morning, and spent some of my time at work reading up on possible film adaptions (glad to hear of the Ron Howard project, by the way)). And so, here I am - officially a fanboy. :D

Sup guys, it's me Gyps...

I was a regular member of tdt.net way back in the day, 2003-4? Was wondering if the possibility existed that this place is where the old crew hangs out. I'll release the info for my old name later...

Anyways, bout me: I'm 29, from Baltimore, far as hobbies go; I typically do anything that involves stupidity. You'll find out soon enough, I'm sure. ;)

To answer your questions:

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
When I was thirteen, I went to the Cook County library in Chicago cuz I was bored. Tried to stay off the streets, u know? So I've always been a fan of king since sneaking Pet Sematary from my mother's shelf when I was around seven or eight. She didn't want to let me read it. Anyways, I found The Gunslinger sitting at the table I chose. Picked it up, couldn't put it down. I was obsessed at thirteen with the Dark Tower series.

Who is your favorite charcter?
My favorite character has to be... Susan Delgado. I know she had a rough time but being able to witness the young lady develop into a hero in book four, warmed the heart a little.

What is your favorite book?
Definately book four. Couldn't put the damn thing down. Good toilet reading material too.

How old are you?
Old enough to... party...

Where are you from?
Baltiimore, MD originally: Chicago, IL

do you have a nickname?
Flounder, but you can call me Gyps...

Thanks guys... Talk to you real soon.

Hi everyone. I don't think I did this when I joined but since I just posted my collection I figure I should. Hoping to hang out here more often.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I've been a huge King fan since I was a kid and I would beg my mother for anything King related to read. At some point I either read about or heard about the Gunslinger being published. My mother refused to spend $60 on a book for a child (she wouldn't cough up the $20 either). It was quite a few years later but when the Plume edition came out, she surprised me with it. If she only knew what that $60 investment would have turned into :arg:

Who is your favorite Dark Tower character?
Oy

What is your favorite book?
Wizard & Glass in the DT books, but my favorite King book is The Talisman with The Stand and It a close second.

How old are you?
42 going on 25

Where are you from?
I grew up near Annapolis, currently residing in Wilmington, DE.

Do you have a nickname?
Just Rebecca or Becca

Awesome characters, agreed, especially for young people. It's just that I hold The Stand and especially It in such high regard.
Still curious about just where you'd rank TDT as a King book. Many of the folken here tend to put the series way up above all others. Just wondered. Anyhow, tho, glad to have you around.

How did you discover the Dark Tower? Late one November evening in 1983, I opened up my brand new hardback copy of Pet Sematary and saw listed in the front of the book in the 'other books by Stephen King' section a title I had never heard before, The Dark Tower: The Gunsligner. I didn't have the internet to search for it and it was too late to call anyone about it. So, I got about reading and ended up finishing Pet Sematary in one siting then went to school the next day with no sleep. I then called around and found a copy at my favorite book store, Hole In The Wall Books (http://www.holeintheweb.com/), where I obtained a perfect condition First Edition.

Who is your favorite character? Roland or maybe Blaine. I do have to say though that I haven't finished the series yet (I know, I know). I stopped reading physical books when the evil internet took over all our time and I never got back to it. I stopped in the middle of Wizard & Glass (if you can believe it). I've read every King book and short story (chronologically) up to that year several times but nothing after that. Nothing!

What is your favorite book? I started off reading Night Shift back in '79 or '80 because I'd never read an entire novel before. I was 12. His stories definitely got me into reading in a big way. I tried to read 'Salem's Lot next but couldn't get through it. So, I started on The Shining. Bam! This was the one. The first novel I ever finished. Then my Dad took me to see the film later that year! After that I read Carrie then finally 'Salem's Lot. Now, I was ready for The Stand. This took a while but I relished every word. Every page. Even when I read the longer version, I actually prefer the original partly because of the memory of reading it for the first time. The Stand is my favorite.

How old are you? 44

Where are you from? Originally, Annandale, VA (live in Los Angeles now)

do you have a nickname? Only the names I use online.

Back in school I had a girlfriend who borrowed wizard and glass from the school library. She was reading me some of the riddles from when they were whizzing through the wasteland on Blaine the Mono. Intrigued me enough to get stuck in. Quite bizarrely I read the first four books in reverse order, which didn't actually diminish my enjoyment of them (thanks to the fascinating 'argument' at the start of most of 'em).

Who is your favorite character?

I suppose it has to be Roland, doesn't it? Eddie comes second for me I think.

What is your favorite book?

For me I think Wolves of the Calla just shades it.

How old are you?

30

Where are you from?

Fermanagh, Ireland. Currently living in Belfast.

Do you have a nickname?

Telephasic

Cheers peeps. All things serve the fuckin' beam.

Hello all! I am a HUGE King fan, but I have not read the Dark Tower series! (I know, I know, I am currently working on amending that glaring omission... half way through Drawing...)
How did I hear of TDT?
I read The Gunslinger a long time ago and thought, eh. I have a friend who also loves King and she has always gotten on me about not reading the series. I recently finshed A Game of Thrones and was about to continue in that series when I just got bogged down. I felt like reading something "epic," but Martin's book just wasn't doing it for me at the time, (I will go back to them though...) Then, I received a gift card to my local bookstore and thought... why not? I purchased the first three volumes and reread The Gunslinger in one shot... LOVED IT! Now I am working my way through, but I thought that I would check out this forum and see what was going on in the world of King! (Also, I was very intrigued by all of the DT references in "Low Men in Yellow Coats" and "Insomnia," and I am looking forward to making connections to those works as well as other references that I know I have missed.)
Favorite Character?
So far, Roland... though I also LOVE the lobstrosities!
Favorite Book
I'll get back to you on that one... The Shining is my fav. King book though.
Age?
31
Where are you from?
Born and raised in Maryland... Living in Baltimore now.
Nicknames
Not really.

Hello everyone! I'm Amy :)

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I think for a very long time it was the only series of Stephen King books that I had never read, the whole gunslinger thing really didn't appeal to me when I was buying the books but decided to give the first 1 a go about 3 months ago and I've been HOOKED ever since!!!

Who is your favorite character?
Do I really have to pick one? I think my favourite char would have to be Eddie (this is ofc assuming you have held me at gunpoint and forced me to choose one :D) he just changes so much throughout the story and saves our main man with his awesomeness!

What is your favorite book?
Wizard and Glass, seeing Roland's story from his younger years was tragic!

How old are you?
21

Where are you from?
England

do you have a nickname?

Hello fellow Constant Readers
My name is Brandon of Boise. I am also deaf, but I use my hands quite well.

My first SK book was the Gunslinger. I fell in love with it right off the bat, because it was my first real story I ever read, the rest of the books I read felt so boring and I knew what was going to happen. I first started reading real books when I read Ender's Game (which I love) then later on I was talking to the teacher about how awesome Ender's Game was, then he told me I should read Stephen King's 'The Gunslinger'. He told me "Brandon, trust me... you will won't regret it."

I didn't. :) Been a Stephen King fan for the longest time now!

I am 22 year of age in this world.

My favorite book- The Wizard and Glass

Favorite character will have to be Roland, I mean he's bad ass.

I hope I can contribute to this forum as much. I just discovered this forum when searching for ideas for my Dark Tower Tattoo.

Long days, and pleasant nights.

Well hi there!
Glad to find myself in the world where I can share my thoughts about King's works with other fans.

How did you discover The Dark tower?
I discovered the series when I was simply browsing for audiobooks in my local library. I always wanted to read King's stories, but I was hooked in music and other hobbies of mine. SO The Dark Tower became my first adventure into King's creative mind and I was instantly hooked! I feel like I'm late to the game, but I'm catching up. Just finished the series last year. Currently I'm reading Bag of Bones.

Who's your favorite character?
Oy! ovbiously every character is vital to the story, but Oy's bond with Jake was the sweetest moment in the series.
What is your favorite book?
Apart from the Dark tower as a whole, I really liked The Stand.

How old are you?
I'm 25. I'm in my prime! Hehehehe.
Where are you from?
I currently reside in the city of Houston, Texas.
do you have a nickname?
More than one.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

I like Stephen King and read many of his books but never had an interest in the Dark Tower books, but my son kept bugging me to read them. When they came out on audio books I found it much easier and more exciting to listen to them and I am hooked. I am presently on Wolves of Calla.

Who is your favorite character?

I have a hard time with this one cause I like them all but if I have to pick I will pick Susan Delgado because she never gave up on Roland even in the end. But Im a romantic.
What is your favorite book?

Wizard and Glass

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

I like Stephen King and read many of his books but never had an interest in the Dark Tower books, but my son kept bugging me to read them. When they came out on audio books I found it much easier and more exciting to listen to them and I am hooked. I am presently on Wolves of Calla.

Who is your favorite character?

I have a hard time with this one cause I like them all but if I have to pick I will pick Susan Delgado because she never gave up on Roland even in the end. But Im a romantic.
What is your favorite book?

Wizard and Glass

How old are you?

I have one request before I fill this out, I'm only a third of the way through the last book don't give anything away! I'll have to be careful what posts I read

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I am from Maine! Represent. Being from Maine you pretty much have to read atleast one Stephen King book so I read like 15 since I was 13 finally got to the point where I thought I'd give the dark tower a go.

Who is your favorite
Before Wolves Of Calla probably Eddie, though you can't help having a crush on Roland, but in wolves definately Pere Callahan since I loved salems lot, I'm also a fan of Cuthbert and Ted Brautigan.

What is your favorite book?
I love them all of course but I would say The Drawing Of The Three and Wastelands, but again I'm not done with The Dark Tower.

How old are you?
I just turned 20 :)

Where are you from?
Maine! My town even gets some mentions in his books and I've been to some of the towns. But he does make a lot of them up.

do you have a nickname?
Just call me Erika.

Here's an interesting fact, my mom worked with a woman that went to school with SK and whenever he got brought up she would leave the room. Not sure why

Hey there,

I already did my first posting - BUT its awaiting moderation... urgh - the most mad thing about this is, I can't be sure about the existence of my posting, because there is really no function to see the status of own, moderation-awaiting postings. So I searched for the FAQs. Found them. Searched for the "new member section". Found it. Ah, moderation. Okay, now I'm here. (btw: your facebook connect button does not work!) However. In fact, I came here lookin for a tattoo - or an inspiration... but now I joined a growing community, and most of the users take the tower as serious as I do. thats good. I searched for something some month ago - in german - didnt find it.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
Really? I dont know. It wasnt a influenced decision or something. I just saw the title, downloaded the audio book... and listened. And I bought the books. great feeling - and I cant get enough of it.

Who is your favorite charcter?
Roland - of course. Roland would understand. :)

What is your favorite book?
These books contain so many facets ... It feels like a post-apocalyptic western with elements of humor and tragedy, comedy, black humor, romance, dark romance, fantasy, dark fantasy, horror, mystery, history and eternity. Life is a wheel - and we all say our thanks. And that's the truth. Therefore, it can be not only a favorite book in the series. It can only be the completion of this very complex composed symphony which is played in a monumental orchestra.

How old are you?
Nineteen :) - No, actually not. I am 23.

Where are you from?
Germany

do you have a nickname?
No. But my Nickname here is "Neunzehn". It means Nineteen in german...

I hope I'm getting out of this moderating-state. 8 postings left... sorry for my english :>

Posts in the off topic areas (Dixie Pig and Blue Heaven) do NOT count towards that requirement. After that you have full rights of membership...such as uploading pictures, private messages, whatever else we've set limits on. I should know exactly what these things are, but I forget at the moment. Anyhow you don't have far to go and the short moderation period is to help us minimize spammers.

Small world!!!! I understand it's no longer actually called "Schwalbach" My family owns the local "Gasthaus", but I believe they lease it to someone else. How did you discover the Dark Tower?

I was in middle school and I found a moving box of my dad's that was filled with Stephen King and Dean Koontz books. I had just finished reading the Stand and I started looking through his box to find my next Stephen King book to read since I had already fallen in love with what books of his I read. My dad had a really old copy of the Gunslinger and I asked him about it. He said it was his favorite series but he never finished it because he waited so long for the rest of the books to come out he'd need to re-read and refresh his memory before he read the newer ones, but his life moved on before that happened. I took it home that day and I didn't stop reading the series until I was finished.

Who is your favorite character?

I'd have to say Eddie, for his wit and sense of humor that I love, and Roland, for all the obvious reasons :)

What is your favorite book?

It's way too hard to choose just one on these questions so, The Drawing of the Three and the Waste Lands.

How old are you?

19! Haha

Where are you from?

Indiana

Do you have a nickname?

Nope, just Amber.
