Hello...

I've been a Stephen King fan for years and enjoy collecting his hardcover books as well as the comic books. Over the past couple of years I've been trying to acquire First Editions where possible.

I've looked at some of the collections from different members on this site and I am truly amazed. I am looking forward to assembling/displaying my collection as it grows like some of the collections I have seen here.

The first King book I ever read was "The Dark Half" followed by "The Stand".

Hi my name is Al and I am from Falkirk Scotland, Just discovered this site and thought i would add my own theories and ideas regarding the series,

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

Been a big Stephen King fan for years and I saw The Gunslinger in the local library so i decided to give it a go, since then i have read the books countless times all the way through, just finishing the seventh one right now actually lol

Who is your favorite character?

Tough choice really but Roland is definately up there and following close behind is Walter/Martyn/Flagg as i love his humour, I was really impressed with the performance of the character in 'The Stand' and hope the new guy playing him takes notes

What is your favorite book?

Wolves of the Calla no question, magnificent seven meets Stephen King

How old are you?

Where are you from?

Even though my last reign was rather small, and somewhat unnoticeable, I am back, and now I'm in the military! Yup, I became pretty busy when I decided to join the Air Force, and now I'm working for a living and learning how to blow things up for the benefit of our United States of America. Immoral? Perhaps, but war is war and because of human nature, it must be done. Other than that, Dark Tower is still my favorite series of novels, along with the Legend of Drizzt series by R.A. Salvatore. Both of these series will live in my heart forever.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

Oh my word, this could be a long story. HOWEVER, to try to keep this short, I spent my 13th birthday in the hospital for scoliosis surgery, and I then had to stay in bed for the rest of the summer (two months of bed with wonderful windows of sunlight and full-bloomin' trees. I envied everyone, haha). Anywho, all I did that summer was read and write, and watched a movie here and there. My mom had a bunch of Stephen King's books, and I'd seen a whole bunch of the movies, and I thought I'd try my hand at reading Misery and ADORED it and went from there... Been a Stephen King freak for the next almost-ten years, and still goin' strong.

Who is your favorite charcter?

Oh my, I don't remember who said this above, but I agree with them -- I honestly can't pick. Being a writer myself, I fall hard for characters.

What is your favorite book?

Again, hard choice. I'm still in love with Gunslinger, really admire the Towers... I just don't know.

How old are you?

Going to be 23 on June 25th, so my 22nd year is waaaaay over the hill, haha.

Where are you from?

Indiana through and through. Where I was born, grew up, and living now are all different cities but all in Indiana.

do you have a nickname?

Yes, quite a few, but the main one right now is Kenzie.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I started reading Stephen King when I found a Salem's Lot paperback in late 75. The black cover drew me in, vampires, wow! Been reading him since. Strangely, I am just finishing DTV. Seems I plan on taking longer to read it than he did writing it. My excuse is maybe not wanting it to end...

Who is your favorite character?
Roland, never a doubt.

What is your favorite book?
Wolves of the Calla, but each one has been better to me as the story goes.

How old are you?
46

Where are you from?
Born in Edinburgh, Scotland(dual citizen still). Grew up a Air Force brat, then was USMC myself, point being that I lived all over the world. Taiwan, Japan, Italy, Iwo Jima. California is my american home I guess, I went to HS mostly there. Lived in Texas, Nebraska, Alabama ROLL TIDE, and now just south of Indianapolis for the last six years.

Hi all, nice site.

I've made a couple of posts in DT movie tread, but I'm as of yet to introduce myself.

I read my first King book in the mid 90's; I struck gold; I picked up a copy of The Stand Uncut from my uncles bookshelf.

My favourite king books are:

The Talisman [duh!]
The Stand
Needful Things
IT
Insomnia

And of course, Sai King's magnum opus, The Dark Tower.

I've not read a great deal of his short stories to date, but The Long Walk, Rita Heyworth.......
and Willa stand out as personal favourites.

I look forward to exploring the site further.

Hello. My name is Mike, and I'm an addict. I came to this forum because I love talking about The Dark Tower, but I don't want to talk about the upcoming films with the elitist fanboys at imdb.

How did you discover the Dark Tower? When I was about 20, a friend of mine gave me a copy of the gunslinger, and it took me a while to get into it. By the time I was finished, I was dying for more. I read books II through IV in about a month, just in time for the release of Wolves of the Calla. Since then, I've read almost every Dark Tower related book. Personally, I'm excited about the movies and tv series because I'm a hopeless optimist. I realize the film adaptations won't be perfect - there will be mistakes, but all I ask is that they don't royally &%$# it up.

Who is your favorite charcter? Tough question. Roland would be the obvious choice, but I always love bad guys. I've always been fascinated with magic in fantasy stories, from Gandalf, Fizban and Rincewind all the way to characters like John Constantine and the Jedi. If I had to pick one character, it would be Walter O'Dim.

What is your favorite book? Another tough call. If I had to choose one, it would be The Dark Tower simply for the ending. But as an entire piece of work from start to finish, Wolves of the Calla would be my favorite because of its obvious similarities to stories like Seven Samurai and The Magnificent Seven.

How old are you? I'm 28.

Where are you from? Originally, I'm from Detroit, MI (Go Red Wings!!!!) - but I've lived in Tucson, AZ for the past 10 years, and it's more of a home to me than anywhere else.

do you have a nickname? Just call me Mike.

Thoughts on the upcoming film adaptations: I think Bardem is a good choice. He's a little stocky, but I think he can slim down for the role. If I was given the choice of choosing someone who can act the part or choosing someone who looks the part, I'd choose someone who can act the role. Playing Roland on film is a difficult task, and I'd rather see someone who can actually fulfill all the subtle nuances of his personality and history instead of finding someone who just looks like an Eastwood clone.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

When I was in sixth grade, my grandparents bought me a set of The Dark Tower books, excluding Song of Susannah and the last book. Even though I was about 11-12 years old, I took an instant liking to the series and eventually bought and finished the last two books.

Who is your favorite character?

Ooh, that one's a toughie. Well, I can't exactly choose one character. So I am simply going to say that I liked each and every one of the characters, even the ones who pissed me off.

What is your favorite book?

Well, when it comes down to the series itself, my favorite book has to be The Dark Tower, the final installment. It's one of the most amazing book finales I've ever read.

How old are you?

I'm currently eighteen. I really do hope I'm not the youngest member here.

Where are you from?

I've lived in Cape Coral, Florida my entire life.

Do you have a nickname?

Welcome!!!

Well I am so Glad to find a place like this I've read the books 2 times now even tried to get all my friends to read them so I would have someone to talk about them with but to no avail. The Journey seems to epic for them. I guess they just don't understand that it's the greatest story ever told. I'm excited to be able to talk about it here with all of you.

I hear you on that one. Luckily, my neighbor got me into them (and read to WotC while we were still good friends) so I had him to discuss it with but I've also asked numerous friends/family and most ask how many books it is then say no. That's why this site is awesome, welcome!

Welcome Ray!

Ya know. I get that a lot. Folks won't read the series once they hear it is 7 books. I find that odd. Do they have a limit on the number of books they can read in their life and are 6 away from that limit??

Hey. My Name Is Stephen

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
To be honest I have only been reading King for about two years, but I got hooked fast. In two years I have pretty much read all his novels and most short stories. After reading "The Stand" I was going on and on, to my friend, about how much I love it. She ask me have I read he dark Tower Series. I said No and she demand that I drop everything and start immediately. I picked up "The Gunslinger", feel in love, and didn't stop till I read all 7. It was the first time that I ever felt enchanted. I was obsessed with Roland, his ka-tet, and the dark tower itself. It might sound unhealthy but while reading my life outside of Mid-World pretty much came to a halt. Haha

Who is your favorite character?
Eddie. He was able to go from a drug addict to a great hero

hello i'm jeff. i'm not very good at introducing myself to new people but i'll give it a shot. i'm 28 years old from north carolina. i work with medical supplies and i like to draw, read comics, play guitar and bass, play games, tinker with cars and motorcycles. i've first learned about the dark tower series when marvel comics first started releasing their comics based on the novels. i've been hooked ever since. but i still have alot to learn about the series. thats one of the reasons i joined to learn more about the books. i've recently picked up the gunslinger novel and started reading it. i figured it'll be quicker to read the novels then wait once a month for marvel to release only parts of the story. anyway, i hope i haven't bored anyone to tears with my poor grammer and punctuation.

supp, so new to this, i'm guessing i'm not doing this right, but i've recently discovered the dark towers, and have been completely enthralled since. I have also just read the talisman, and am very interested to hear other tower fans take on the book. It was weird, because i had just finished re-reading the towers series, when i read the talisman, and i noticed so many similarities between the two. anyone care to comment on that?

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I grew up hearing about the books and stories. My mom read them. I remember when Wizard and Glass came out, and asked her if I could read it, she said I was too young (at the time) because there were a lot of things that were grown up about it. Once I read the series, I understood her reasoning. Lol.

Who is your favorite character?

Hi there, my name is Michelle and I read the last Dark Tower novel 2 years ago. Since then, I've only had my dad and one friend to discuss the series with.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

My dad has a large collection of King books. When I was in high school and didn't want to spend money on my growing addiction, I took over his library. I tried to read The Gunslinger then, but couldn't get into it. It wasn't until my 3rd year of college that I tried again and was totally hooked. Fortunately for me, the whole series had pretty much been released by then so I wasn't waiting around for 10 year intervals for the next like my dad was. ;)

Who is your favorite character?

My favorite character.... well it's been a few years now and when I think back, the character that I remember best (apart from Roland, who is amazing) is Rhea of the Cöos. There was just something about her that always freaked me out. She was so despicable and had this-I dont know,- greasy sexuality and always repulsed me. I'm not sure why this would be a good reason to name her my favorite, but there you have it!

What is your favorite book?
Well, I loved Wizard's Glass. Which was surprising to me because I'm not generally crazy about flashback novels. I like to keep the story rolling.
But I think I would have to say The Dark Tower II: The Drawing of the Three. I think that Eddie and Susannah's stories were told so well. This was really the book that pulled me into the series. When I finished The Gunslinger I still needed a bit of convincing. But when Roland went through that door and into Eddie's mind I was totally hooked!

How old are you?

I'm 22.

Where are you from?

Southern Ontario, Canada. It's pretty spiffy here when the humid-ex isn't sky high.

Do you have a nickname?

Not really, none have ever stuck.

Thoughts on the upcoming film adaptations:

To be honest, I'm kind of nervous about it. I haven't heard or looked up too many details on the casting or locations but I'm a bit concerned all the same. Is it fair to say that I don't want them to screw it up? When you really love a book, especially something as epic as this series, its hard to watch it get slandered on the big screen. And let's face it, most directors have generally failed in capturing the real underlining themes and feelings in Stephen King's novels.
Also, I hope they have the budget.
When I imagine the finished project I'm seeing something along the lines of The Lord of the Rings and Mirrormask.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I watched Lost on TV and then get on line to grab some infos, when I read a lot of people talking about similarities between the DT and Lost. I went to buy the Gunslinger, and then...

Who is your favorite charcter?
Eddie is, because I think he could be seen as the reader entering this strange world against his will (as in when you start to read it, there is no turning back)

What is your favorite book?
I would say "Song of Susannah", but then I can't really explain why. And I think that in about five minutes, I would change my mind.

How old are you?
I'm 23.

Where are you from?
Clermont-Ferrand, a volcano town in the center of France.

Hello everyone, I am thrilled to find a community of people who are in to the Dark Tower. I happened on The Gunslinger while browsing in my local library branch in San Jose and since I was a Stephen King fan, decided to try one I never heard of. Fortunately I discovered this After all of them were available. I can't imagine what it was like for folks who had to wait years for the sequels.

A few months back I was looking for a theme to use for a progressive rock Concept album, think Alan Parsons "Tales of Mystery and Imagination", and I realized the Dark Tower provides a very rich mythology to pull from. I have the lyrics for 10 songs at this point and music for 5. I just posted a video for the first song "The Gunslinger" on You Tube. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4in81aoF5to ) I'm finishing up the second song "Drawing of the Three" and should post something in a week or two. (It's tough working full time and still find time for your passion.) I haven't decided whether I will record "Riding the Waves", a song about the Lobstrosities told from their POV, or "Gone Todash" which is probably the most compelling song I've got so far. All feedback good or bad is welcome.

I hope we are well met.

After all these years, I finally finished Book VII today. I started 22 years ago. I think I did not want the series to end and so I managed to put off the last book for quite a while. Once I started, I just could not stop. Just like all the other books, one by one.

So many thoughts now about the story and characters and how it has interwoven into my life. Each book of this series comes with real life memories attached to them. Where I was, what I was doing, who I was with. It's been quite a journey.

I don't exactly know why, but I love Roland and his Ka-Tet. I often look at the world through his eyes. I guess his story is over now, but he will always be a part of my life.

Hey Everyone. I happened to stumble upon this website a few days ago as I googled something for my work. I read through a few posts and decided this was something I wanted to be a part of. I started the series in June of 2008 and finished around Christmas of 2008. Im a long time King fan that has had a hard time reading anything else and not wanting to go back and read the series again, regardless of who the auther is. So with that said. I just finished book 1 for my re-read, and have already picked up on things that i had missed the first read through.
I hope to enjoy these forums and have some good discussions with everyone here.

Hey guys, I think I had an account here before under my main Email, since it said I did, but I forgot all about it. I figured I'd start fresh. I'm reading the series again for the third or fourth time, can't remember. Easily my favorite series of all time.

How Did you discover the dark tower?: I've been a King fan for awhile now, and I would go to Waldenbooks every week or so after I got some money and buy a new book, and after awhile I saw the DT boxed set 1-4, I said what the hell and bought it. Hooked ever since.

What is your favorite Character?: Roland Deschain, easily. Followed by Eddie.

What is your favorite book?: That's a tough one. They're all amazing, particularly Drawing of the Three, Wizard and Glass, and The Dark Tower. I'd have to go with the last one.

How old are you?: 19 (wink wink)

Where are you from?: Ohio

How did you discover the Dark Tower? i came across 2 rather worn paperback copies of the dark tower gunslinger born and the drawing of the three in a car boot sale and bought them for 50p each. I read them and re read them looking out for more until i discovered another 2 books wizard and glass and wastelands, i kept a look out for more but 5 years later thought that maybe they hadnt been written, then to my amazement found loads on ebay since then i have now got 5 first edition first print hardback books and waiting for 2 more plus a complete paperback reading set, im also collecting the complete marvel comic book series plus hardback novels :)

Who is your favorite character? My favorite character is without doubt OY but second is Susannah you never know who she will be next

What is your favorite book? for me it has to be the gunslinger born as it was the first one i had discovered read and re read

How old are you? 46

The rest is history!

Who is your favorite character?
I'm sorry to be boring but it has to be Roland.

What is your favorite book?
Wizard and Glass. Brilliant flashback book. I didn't want it to end.

How old are you?
I'm 32.

Where are you from?
Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, England.
Famous for JCB, Dr Samuel Johnson, horse racing, Shane Meadows and malted milk biscuits...

do you have a nickname?
noal, had it for years and Neil is sooo boring.

Greetings Everyone. I've lurked around the forums for a couple of weeks and started to feel dirty in the shadows. I've decided I want to start collecting King books and proofs and heard through the grapevine that this site is the funk. I'm not much for a spectacle but I'll try to introduce myself (hah!).

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

My father and I enjoyed westerns while I was growing up. I had started reading King at a young age but had remained oblivious to the tower series. I was discussing some other literature with a relative-- I believe it was The Club Dumas-- when they told me they were reading The Gunslinger. When he informed me that one of the main characters was inspired by Sergio Leone's "The Man With No Name", I couldn't help but acquiesce to chance's call. While this got me in the door, it was the depth of the characters and the macabre that beguiled me.

Who is your favorite charcter?

With all said and done, Roland. As a more interesting answer, I would submit Jonas from the big coffin hunters. His backstory, circumstances, emotions, and conclusion were masterful. He was disturbingly human.

What is your favorite book?

The Waste Lands. The events leading up to the drawing were incredible.

How old are you?

24

Where are you from?

Jackson, MI

Name/Nickname

Andrew

I look forward to meeting everybody!

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

Always been a book worm and at 11 or 12 my mom introduced me to Stephen King and I was hooked, but I (for some reason) refused to read the Dark Tower series. I think it was just stubbornness because my mom raved about them and after sitting through endless hours of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and Dirty Harry movies as a kid - mom is obviously also a Clint fan :) - I decided that Westerns weren't for me. BUT I read Insomnia recently and the lingering hints that lie in between the lines of the book about Roland and the Dark Tower intrigued me. I read all seven books in less than two weeks; I couldn't put them down.

Who is your favorite character?

Well, I know Roland is probably the number one answer, and I do love Roland (especially when he attempts some of the strange words from our world ... astin, Magda Seens haha, it kills me), but I have to go with Eddie. He speaks what's on his mind and I can respect that.

What is your favorite book?

Ahhh!!!!! That's a tough one. But I think my favorite one is The Wastelands.

How old are you?

24

Where are you from?

Chicago, IL

Do you have a nickname?

Yep. Doesn't mean I'm gonna tell anyone though lol :tongue::tongue:

you should start reading King right away - there's no better day for this than your birthday... :rose: :rose: :rose:

well, if you don't have any within reach, it's a wonderful day to start thinking about it anyway; I think you might want to check this thread (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?9573-What-is-the-one-King-book-you-d-recommend-a-new-reader) http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/0134-bear.gifhttp://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/0134-bear.gifhttp://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/0134-bear.gif

Hi everyone!
I just discovered the site through a fb post by "The Last Regulator" ( I hope you don't mind that I followed you here :) ). In the last years I started to really miss dt.net, I am not sure why I never found this forum though...
Now for the questions:

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I started reading the series when Wolves of the Calla came out and they republished the other books in German. Loved all of them from the start and still enjoy everything DT related.

Who is your favorite character?
I love all of them so I can't really decide.

How old are you?
25

Where are you from?
Vienna, Austria

Do you have a nickname?
well, I guess that's pretty obvious

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

I discovered it through Grant Publishing in the 1980's.

Who is your favorite charcter?

Everyone wants to know a person's favorites. I have many, usually the main star and dark creature of each story. Characters that go from bad to good, or the other way around, in the course of a story are of special interest to me.

What is your favorite book?

Again, I have many. Little Sisters is the closest to a favorite if my arms are tied and I am tortured to made a choice.

How old are you?

Older than most people on this board.

Where are you from?

The deep dark woods, but now I live in Northern California's urban environ.

Do you have a nickname?

I could tell you, but it might be the last thing you read.
But, seriously, I am happy to be here and hope we can all get to know each other better over time.

Hello! I'm new here, and figured this was the place to start :)

I discovered Stephen King when I was a child - my mother used to read me his books at bedtime! When I first encountered The Gunslinger, I had no idea I would have to wait 25 years for the (unsatisfactory, in my mind) conclusion. I hope Ron Howard gets his ducks in a row and figures out a way to make the movie!

My favorite character is Oy, and I bawled like a baby over him, more than any other character, as the series wound down. I'm also fond of Blaine, even though he is a pain. :)

My favorite book in the series is The Gunslinger.

I'm from Key West.

I have a sizeable collection of Gunslinger ARCs and other rarities to unload - don't really want to, but Christmas is coming, and the bils never stop - (thanks to my EX-boyfriend, who couldn't be bothered to take them with him when he left), so if someone could point me to the appropriate forum for that, I would really appreciate it :)

Hope to get to know you all better!

Deb
