It's great to see so many new faces here today -- welcome, everyone!

And since you guys are doing it, I guess I should answer The Questions, eh? :)

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
My uncle made me read The Stand when I was in high school. After that, I started reading everything by King I could find.

Who is your favorite charcter?
Y'know... I don't think I've actually got one.

What is your favorite book?
Wolves of the Calla -- the battle with the Doombots appeals to the geek in me.

How old are you?
29

Where are you from?
Ama, Louisiana

do you have a nickname?
None I can admit to in public.

BigCoffinHunter

Ah, much more comfortable :-) This is Low Men in Yellow Coats here, now known as BigCoffinHunter, which has been my E-Bay name for the past seven years and the name I wanted on Dark Tower.net, but when I signed up it was already taken :-( Well it's all mine now! Muahahahaha!

I guess I'll answer the questions here like everyone else:

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
Fell asleep reading The Gunslinger in my local library when I was in grade school. The rest is history.

Who is your favorite charcter?
I always loved Mr. Munshun, mostly because I think his painting in Black House is awesome.

What is your favorite book?
Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass. The last of the Dark Tower books were okay, but King could have stopped with Wizard and Glass and I'd have been just as happy.

How old are you?
24

Where are you from?
Originally, Chicago, Illinois. Now, Nashville, Tennessee.

do you have a nickname?
My friends call me T.J.

Roland (of course)

What is your favorite book?
Wizard and Glass

How old are you?

Where are you from?

Hello, all!

I am known by another name on the darktower.net; my attempt to join up here by that name seems not to have worked properly, so I chose another. I doubt it will take those of you who know me very long to figure out who I am; I'm not very good at hiding my louder personality traits. But what a nice, new virtual living room we have here! It's truly lovely, I must say. . .

Anyway, there are perhaps a few obscure short stories written by Stephen King out there that I haven't read, but not many. I have read the Dark Tower entire three times, and the first four books a few more times (like five or six); I've read The Stand seven times; IT six times and most of his other top-notch novels (you know, Carrie, The Shining, Salem's Lot, The Dead Zone, The Talisman, The Dark Half, Needful Things) at least three times. Not that I haven't read plenty of other things over the years; I'm a fast reader. But King is my favourite fiction; along with Clive Barker, Peter Straub, Ira Levin, Hermann Hesse, Thomas Harris (his last two Hannibal Lecter novels, in which Hannibal is the hero) and Anne Rice before she rediscovered Christ. Otherwise, I tend to read history books, biographies, and books about religious history in particular, as well as those rare and precious books with something real and useful to say about the occult. I've tried reading political theory, but the sincere stuff (read: leftist) is usually painfully dull, and the rightist stuff is utter rot, so why bother? All you really need in that department is a little Marx, a little Lenin and that little red book of Mao Zedong's, and the knowledge that socialism wasn't meant for societies just scraping their way out of fudalism, and you'll understand why the 20th Century was such an abject disaster. Capitalism requires no deep analysis, as it's really no more complex than the law of the jungle; it makes beasts of us all. All one needs to know about that is how to mitigate its dehumanising effects through generosity and creativity, and by resisting every impulse that comes of living in a capitalist society, as that way lies a bestial exitence and death. And never, ever trust any public official who spends his speeches telling you how perfect and wonderful you are, and that you don't need to change. Only a fool looks in the mirrior and sees perfection. On occasion I'll pick up something about quantum physics or some other scientific subject that isn't far from being occultism in itself; it perpetually amuses me that, as we progress, scientists are sounding more like mystics and zen masters every day! I wouldn't be all that surprised if they did discover a dark tower at the centre of everything eventually!

If you don't know who I am yet, that means you really are new to this random aggregation of oddballs. I'm sure the old hands spotted me just by the length of this post! At any rate, it's good to be here; as Keith Richards likes to say, it's good to be anywhere! As I sit here at the station shown in my avatar, eating a delightful meal of breaded veal scallopini, I am delighted to see the community growing. Who knows? Perhaps we'll really see the films come into being in the next few years, and even more people will come to know the story of Roland in the coming years! But we who've read it will remain the vanguard, and having places like this to meet and exchange ideas is truly a blessing. May we all be well met in this place!

Through my hubby, Needfulkings. He read the series, loved it, and then I started reading it. Got hooked while reading DotT and never looked back.

Hello folks...I'm Jen...and many of you probably already know me as, well...Jen. I don't know what else to say, so lets just get to the Q&A, shall we?

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I was already a Stephen King fan, and thought it would be cool to give a series a try...so I figured I'd go for this one. Had a hard time getting into book 1, but after that I was hooked.

Who is your favorite charcter?
Cuthbert, definitely...followed closely by Roland himself.

What is your favorite book?
Book of the series? Drawing of The Three. Number 2 is probably Song of Susannah...I really love the books with lots of interplay between the different levels.

Where are you from?
Originally lived in Massahusetts up until I was 17...moved to Maine during the summer before my senior year in high school. I still live there now, way up in the boonies...

do you have a nickname?
Well, I do...but the only name I ever use on forums and stuff is Jen...though I was formerly known as JenJ back in the olden days at thedarktower.net.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

My X girlfriend use to read King, so I loaned IT from her about 10 years ago, and shortly after borrowed Wizard and Glass.
Although its the 4th book in the series, I read the prologue and couldnt put the book down.
I fell inlove with the epic from that day, I was always a huge fan of the Clint Eastwood westerns when I was a kid, im sure that had something to do with it.

Who is your favorite charcter?

Jake and Oy. (Named my dog after Jake, sad I know)

What is your favorite book?

Hmmm, a flip between Wizard and Glass and The Drawing of the Three.

How old are you?

25

Where are you from?

England, North Yorkshire. (Whitby)

do you have a nickname?

Oshia is my online alias, but most people know me on a first name basis (Dave).

Hey all, great to see the new site up and running I've only just registered and had a quick look around and everything seems to work very well. Although resizing my signature image was near impossible and it has ended up tiny and blurred no matter what I did with it. EDIT Signature image is not displaying at all??

To the questions....

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

I was already a Stephen King fan, but mostly from watching the movies. My Wife got me started reading The Gunslinger. Since then I've continued reading whenever I could find the time. I read the rest of the DT series and continued on from there with The Green Mile and many others.

Who is your favorite charcter?

Oy and of course Roland himself.

What is your favorite book?
Book of the series?

So far (other than the DT series itself) Talisman, Shawshank Redemption or The Green Mile are a close contest.

DT wise I would say either Drawing of The Three or Wizard & Glass.

Where are you from?

Originally from Hartlepool in North East UK. Now I live in Cornwall UK

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
It was sometime in 2002, I was a lapsed SK fan talking about books on a Kevin Smith forum. I mentioned having loved Talisman and The Black House, and that I really missed that side of SK's storytelling - and some peach of a person recommended the Dark Tower books...for which my imagination will be eternally grateful!

Who is your favorite charcter?
Hmmm...well...it wouldn't be DT without Roland, but it also wouldn't be SK without Flagg...can I pick both?

What is your favorite book?
Wizard and Glass.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

Probably by reading one of the order forms or book jacket blurbs at the end of another Stephen King novel.

In that sense I guess knew about The Dark Tower once I started reading King's work, but didn't get around to actually reading the original version of The Gunslinger until I decided to take it out from a local library during my high school years.

Who is your favorite character?

Cort.

Of the major characters probably Susannah.

Of course, I'll always have a soft spot for Randall Flagg.

What is your favorite book?

Les Miserables.

How old are you?

26

Where are you from?

Kings County, NY

do you have a nickname?

No, but you can call me "Gerry" if it makes things easier.

I kind of like referring to people by their actual names, but it's not a huge deal either way.

Doesn't make much difference to me.

Purchased The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger HC in NYC in 1982. Read it and didn't care for it. My 15 year old son wanted to read the series. Well, I'll be damned if my son will ever out read me. How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I had always seen the books, though they always seemed to shy away from me while I would be meandering around the bookstore. Finally, I had acquired a new friend and he opened the gate for me to begin my own journey to the Tower along side Roland and his Ka-Tet. I must confess that the books are the most impressive series of novels and the greatest literary journey that I have experienced so far.

Who is your favorite charcter?
Roland, the last gunslinger, is the most impressive and at times the most surprising character to exit King's imagination and find his way into print.

What is your favorite book?
It's a tie between The Drawing of the Three or The Dark Tower.

How old are you?
Eighteen

Where are you from?
A small town that reminds me eerily of 'salem's Lot.

do you have a nickname?
Some people call me the Joker, Some people call me the gangster of love, Some people call me Maurice...No really, some people (my closest friends) call me Jesus or Captain Cave Man.

(How did you discover the Dark Tower?)
I was introduced to The Dark Tower while browsing around Borders books. I needed a good book to read so I picked up The Gunslinger and was consumed ever since.

Who is your favorite charcter?
Roland is my favorite, but I consider myself the most like Eddie. (NO IM NOT A HEROIN JUNKIE) But between his personality, and his relationship with his brother; he mirrors. If there was ever to be a DT movie, or series, or whatever, I think that I would make an excellent Eddie.

What is your favorite book?
Wizard and Glass was my favorite out of the seven.

How old are you?
I will be 25 on the 12th of July

Where are you from?
Chicago, Illinois

do you have a nickname?

I read about it online after finishing The Talisman in late 2005. I found out there was a sequel to Talisman which tied in to a Great Story - The Dark Tower.

Who is your favorite charcter?
Eddie/Cuthbert

What is your favorite book?

Told my son about this site. He doesn't use the internet much but he said he cannot wait to check out this site and join. If that doesn't say something about the effects of the Dark Tower, i don't know what does.

Help....i am subscribing to thread but haven't gotten any e-mail notifications yet. Why?

Instead of re-typing this - I just copied my post from the Welcome thread in Calvin's Corner:

Hey Everyone -

My name is Jim from NY. I've been a Constant Reader since I was a high school kid in the late 80s - first King book I read was the HC of The Dark Half to give you a tighter time frame. Over the years I managed to gather a collection of trade HCs of all King's work.

My first toe in the water of true collecting was this past December when I got my s/l SoD. Since then, I've added a bunch of limiteds to my collection, but nothing particularly rare - such as the limiteds of Desperation & Insomnia, My Pretty Pony, etc... Like I said, things that are pretty much readily available, but still a nice foundation to being building my collection.

Hope we've been well met and to become a regular contributor to this board.
