How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I'm a massive King fan - bordering obsession, in fact - and I've been eyeing up the Tower series for some time now. Decided to buy them one-by-one so I could read 'em all at once and heard a lot of good about them on the 'net. :)

Who is your favorite charcter?
I'm torn between Roland and Jake/Oy (I tend to count them as pretty much one character). I think it'd have to be Roland, though.

What is your favorite book?
I'm only just starting Wizard, so it's not the best time for me to answer, but so far my favourite has been Wastelands.

How old are you?
16

Where are you from?
Oldham, England (UK)

do you have a nickname?

I just found this site and it looks great, I just finished reading the Dark Tower Series and it was great! So I just wanted to say Hi!

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
My parents have always read Stephen King and when I was a kid I remember that they were always anticipating the next DT books, so when I got older I started reading Stephen King and decided to give the Dark Tower a go myself.

Who is your favorite charcter?
Tough Choice but Id have to go with Roland.

What is your favorite book?
The Drawing of the Three really got me hooked to the series, I thought it was extremely creative and well written and it really opened my mind to what the Dark Tower was going to be like.

How old are you?
26

Where are you from?
Texas

do you have a nickname?

I hate that I missed the anniversary. It's great to find this site though. It's hard to find people who love DT as much as I do around where I live.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
My dad gave me the Gunslinger to read when I was a freshman in high school. I couldn't put it down. I got to the last page and cried because there wasn't any more to read.

Who is your favorite charcter?
I can't say Roland. He's a hard man to love. I'd have to say Susannah. She had it rough.

What is your favorite book?
The Dark Tower is my favorite. I get something different out of it every time I read it. And I can't help but hope that this time when I read it, it will be different.

How old are you? 28

Where are you from? SW Virginia. You know, that part that the rest of the state wishes didn't exist.

do you have a nickname? It depends. What subculture are we talking about?

Anyway, pleasant days and long lives.:rose:

Well Im trying to do the last radio talk he mades for Jack Sawyer I think that I will post here or youtube or tutv when I finished... The problem with this character and the good thing is that dont have an actor that performance him so I can take some licenses Thats doesnt mean that Im going to do what ever I want in fact Im trying to respect all the different personalities descriptions so... Please tell me what do you think... I will display the link when its finished.... In the other hand Im studying scenographic design and I love writting poems, scripts, novells, short stories; drawing and reading... Recently I found that Batman original DC comics were gorgeus... And course my first King book was The Shining... increidible I got in my hand the second edition from an argentinian spanish version of the book. Well, If you wanna know anything else just ask

Introduce yourself

Hi all!
Read the Tower books a couple of years ago, dug'em. Recently got some strange compulsion to do something DT-related again. Maybe it's the song of the turtle I'm hearing. Anyways, found this awesome site, figured I might as well join.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

I, like a certain mr. King, love Lost. There was some interview with the guys behind show where they were asked about their major influences. Dark Tower was one of them, which led me to pick'em up. The rest is history.

Who is your favorite charcter?

I've gotta say Roland. Went from hating the guy to knowing him so well I could predict his reaction to any given situation, all in the course of seven books. The ultimate badass.

What is your favorite book?

The Dark Tower, hands down. Can't beat the emotion and the pure epicness contained in this book. Was actually pretty happy with the ending too.

How old are you?

18. Yeah.

Where are you from?

Norway. Will be moving to Canada sometime next year though.

do you have a nickname?

I wish I did. I really wish I did. Always wanted one.

That's it. See you good folk around!

Introduce yourself

Hello all ^^ My name is Tom. I have adored the Dark Tower series since i read that brilliant opening line. They are such deep, intelligent and thought provoking novels that stay in your mind constantly after reading, thinking about all the possibilities and impossibility of the tale. It's truly magnificent! Anyway. I hope to chat to many of you around ze forum, long days and pleasant nights! :D

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I was wandering through a bookstore during a rainy day and picked up 'The Gunslinger'. I'd passed the cover art of the DT series many times, as i was a fan of King's works anyhow and had always though of trying the series. Needless to say i didn't regret it.

Who is your favorite charcter?
Eddie without a doubt, he's such a brilliant character and changes and grows so much through the story. He seems very real and is just one of those characters who has some kind of aura about him, i love it when that happens. Some of the lines he comes up with are hilarious too. xD

What is your favorite book?
Wolves of the Calla - i love the build up toward the battle and i like learning all the little details and history of the Calla folken.

How old are you?
21

Where are you from?
England!

Thanks for reading my rambling!

Hi guys. Or Hile if you like.

I'm Kev, 24, from England. Look forward to chating to you all about these great books as i cant talk to my usual friends. They dont understand my "unhealthy" obbsession. Their loss.

I discovered the Gunslinger while browsing my local book shop. Ka, i guess. At that point I'd never read a King book. Now I own over fifty and have read them all, most many times, hoping for a DT reference. Guess you could say I'm hooked.

Fav character? Eddie/Cuthbert. though Roland rules too. Who am i kidding... i love them all. I related to Eddie the most though. I feel we have the same sense of humour. similar personalities. I agree with Dinorawr, Eddie has great lines. "Oh christ, i left the world i knew to watch a kid try to put booties on a fucked up weasel. Shoot me now, Roland, before i breed." classic Eddie. I'm not on heroin by the way!!! Alcohol and the Tower are my posions.

Fav book? They all have their moments but it has to be wizard and glass. It begins with the conclusion to the Blane saga. (eddie again, cool as ice!!!) It then tells an emotional tale wich i feel helps you to understand the gunslingers complex personality. Without this i feel the readers understanding of rolands relationship with his new ka tet in the following books would suffer. great climax too.

I put my name and age at the top. cant follow rules, guess it's the Eddie in me.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
In July sometime of 2003, I was in 29 Palms, CA in the Marine Corps just sittin' there in the desert waiting to begin training with my unit, and a fellow Marine let me borrow the first book, started reading it, got really interested but only made it about half way through before we had to start up training again. Eventually got back into it and now finally on the last book!

Who is your favorite character?
It's tough between Eddie or Roland.

What is your favorite book?
Stephen King - Dark Tower 5 - Wolves of the Calla

I was a fan of King's short stories, and randomly saw the cover of the The Gunslinger (the purple one with David the hawk behind Roland) and was intrigued by the book's description so I bought it :) This was back in '01 or '02.

However I just recently revisited and finished the series via audiobooks at work after a long break, I read up to Wizard and Glass while I was in college but got hooked to WoW back in '04 (lol).

ROFL I used to always get the "Buffy" ref question; it was just a random name I picked when I played Counter Strike with my buddies in high school, I guess it just stuck.

My name's J (Jota en espanol). I am not really convinced of the need for this introduction, but I can't view pics on this forum, and I suspect a low number of posts is the reason. So here I am, padding my post count and introducing myself at the same time.
I have been a DT fan for over 14 years now. And for those 14 years, I have been training in the way of the gun. Some of that time was spent training with my father (state cop), some with the US Army (ex-paratrooper), and the rest on my own, with an emphasis on guerrilla warfare. Needless to say, I pity the wolf that comes looking for my twins, because one is named Smith and the other Wesson. They take after their mother.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

I have been reading King's work since i was about 14 or so and have always known that it was out there but never bothered to read it. While i was stationed in Japan back when i was in the navy i picked it up one day and really liked it, so did my wife, and we both ended up reading the whole series after that.

Who is your favorite charcter?

It would easy to say Roland but i like how you see characters involved with the dark tower from other stories king has written. I never picked up on it at first when i started reading the dark tower but the more books i've read of him i see how alot of stories have links.

What is your favorite book?

The gunslinger

How old are you?

28

Where are you from?

originally cleveland but i live in fort meade (in between D.C. and Baltimore) since that's where my wife is stationed.

Afternoon all. :)

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I am an utter book junkie, especially epic fictions, so when I saw a seven book-saga on the shelves in borders, spanning a few thousand pages all told; how could I resist?

Who is your favourite character?
It has to be Roland himself, doesn't it; the story is about him, more than anyone else.

What is your favourite book?
Definitely the Gunslinger; I think it has a very different tone to the later books, where it goes more towards a magical, crazy adventure, which is also good, but it wasn't what I was expecting,

How old are you?
Older than my teeth.

Where are you from?
Northern England; York, to be precise :)

do you have a nickname?
I go by a few, mainly this username.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

By accident. I worked at Boston's Logan Airport and stopped at the gift shop.
Then my world changed.

Who is your favorite character?

Roland. While many see Roland as Clint Eastwood-y (?); I simply see a smokey reflection of my father.

What is your favorite book?

I enjoy the whole series, but the first and the last are my favorites.

How old are you?

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I had always wanted to read Stephen King, but never got around to it because I keep a big reading list. I was bored one day and picked up The Gunslinger...the rest is, as they say, history.
Who is your favorite character?
Anyone who doesn't say Roland is kidding themselves on this one. Come On, you know it's true.
What is your favorite book?
I would have to say Wastelands followed by Wizard and Glass. I love them for what King does with borrowing conventional images, like the Wizard of Oz, and the idea of a Literary image of the Wasteland. I think it is brilliant, and am thinking about writing my thesis about the series.

How did you discover the Dark Tower? Saw The Gunslinger on display at Borders, and the cover caught my eye--the raven of course. Pretty silly, but I bought the first and have been hooked since. Read the entire series twice, and just started revisiting it.

Who is your favorite character? I like all of the main characters quite a lot, but I'm particularly fond of Roland, Jake and Alain. Roland is pretty self explanatory I think, as for Jake and Alain, they represent a kind of person I'm drawn to. Quiet, sensitive, and thoughtful. Alain in particular reminds me quite a bit of my boyfriend, albeit younger. :)

Hi!

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I was introduced to this series by my mom and dad. I had just read Cell and asked them what stephen king book i should read next and they both said i should try the Dark Tower books.

Who is your favorite charcter?
Well, considering i've only read The Gunslinger, i have a limited amount of characters to choose from.
Although from those that were included in this particular book i'd have to go with the majority and say Roland. He's just really enigmatic. Aside from the main character i'd have to say Cort or Jake. Poor Jake.

What is your favorite book?
The Gunslinger, but that's the only one i've read so far. I really liked when The Man in Black read Roland's future, is it safe to assume the slave card signifies the man addicted to lsd, and the two faced lady is Odetta? Also i'm thinking that since The MIB place the Dark Tower card over Roland, that means that the Dark Tower will consume Roland, and he'll become obsessed with finding it. Or maybe it signifies that it's his destiny to find the Tower and defeat Legion.

Where are you from?
California

Do you have a nickname?
Many, George Lopez (don't ask), Gomes, Gomsey, Gomer Pile, etc.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

A college roommate recommended them to me in 2003. Read 1-4 after that, but got sidetracked by life and forgot all about them for a while. This last winter I randomly got the urge to go back and read them all 1-7 - I've tried not to rush up to the end, and I'm finally now reading DT7. Let's just say it's an emotional experience! :/ At least I have the graphic novels lined up to ease the withdrawal a bit. :)

Who is your favorite character?

Roland of course. But I also love Roland's childhood ka-tet, including Susan, and wish they could have had more 'adventures' together. Oy is also a good one.

What is your favorite book?

Wizard and Glass. The Gunslinger is up there too, but after revisiting W&G recently I realized how strong of a story it is, even apart from the rest of the series. I come from an Arthurian-literature-obsessed adolescence, so the world of Roland's early life has always touched a chord with me! The friendship between the young gunslingers also feels very real, and knowing more about these times makes Roland even more real and complex as the series goes on.

How old are you?

Just turned 25 today.

Where are you from?

Born in Seattle, live in Bothell, WA.

do you have a nickname?

Ola is technically a nickname for Aleksandra in Polish, but I've never gone by anything else since I was a kid. That's my only 'public' nickname.

How did you discover the Dark Tower? I started reading King when I was about 6 years old. When DT came out, it was just the next King book to read. I loved it.

Who is your favorite charcter? Besides Roland, it would have to be the sage and eminent junkie, Henry Dean.

What is your favorite book? Overall, probably Starship Troopers by Heinlein. Dont go by the movie, the book is so much better.

How old are you? 33

Where are you from? Texas

Hi! I'm Roni, and I'm 20 and I live in France. Hence I've read the Dark Tower in french, unfortunately, even though I'd have loved to read it in english, but I was afraid I wouldn't catch everything up with the old english and the made-up words.
My favorite character is Eddie, cause I love his sarcastic and very Richie (from It)-ish humour. I can't stand for one of the books yet cause I'm still deep into the 6th one, but I would go for the 3rd one (don't know the english titles, sorry).
I am very eager for learning english typical DT expressions; I'd guessed a few of them from those I know in french but I'm not sure of all of them.
Anyway, this site seems to be way more interresting than the french fan-one, so I think I'll stay around for a while, until the DT obsession is gone - if it ever goes away.

How did you discover the Dark Tower? Back in 2002, I'd read virtually every King novel except for any of those in the DT series. I got Everything's Eventual, read "Little Sisters" and loved it so much that I read books I - IV as soon as I could get my hands on them.

Who is your favorite charcter? Without a doubt, Edward Cantor Dean. If I could run away with a literary character, he'd be the one. Roland ranks highest on my chart of badassery, though.

What is your favorite book? From the DT? Wizard & Glass By King? The Shining Otherwise? Waaayyyyy too many to narrow it down.

How old are you? In my head, I'm 29. Forever. 'Cause I say so. In reality, 34 in August.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
This is kind of a long story... So bear with me :-) or just skip it..

I've always had a standard pre-set reaction to hearing/reading/seeing the name Stephen King;
"Ohh it's that guy who writes Horror books.... Whatever"

I saw some of the movies based on his books when I was younger;
It, The Shining, The langoliers (mini series). And that was basically all that I knew about SK..

Then in 2004 I started dating a girl who was a massive fan and who loved all of his books... Still I was in this "whatever" mind state and just subconsciously decided not to read any of his work...

Skip ahead to 2007 - I went backpacking to New Zealand and Japan for a year...
During that time I read a lot of books and for the people who haven't "backpacked" before; you just exchange a book when ever you get the chance... It was during the amazing year that I opened my first SK book: "The Stand".
Problem was; I didn't finish it because it was not my book but the book of a friend of mine (whom I met on the road :-) and he took this book with him when he travelled back to his home :-)

He mentioned before he went that I should definitely start reading the Dark Tower series by SK because that was the best book series he had ever read..

Well after a couple of months I found myself in a New Zealand book store and bought "The Gunslinger"

And from that moment onward I just couldn't stop reading the Dark Tower books...

Who is your favorite charcter? That's a hard one... Eddie is just the ultimate wise cracking smart ass, some of his lines just made me laugh out loud in public places while reading the books :-)
But Roland is just (how do I come up with a word that does him justice) the incarnation of the ultimate bad-ass..

Ok Roland it is...

What is your favorite book? From the DT? Favorite book? How original: Wizard and Glass.... And favorite book? That's a hard one. I don't think I can name 1.
Here are a few:

J.R.R Tolkien - The lord of the Rings
Homer - The Iliad
Philip K. Dick - Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
Frank Herbert - Dune
Raymond E. Feist - Magician

How old are you? 24 years young.

Where are you from? The Hague, The Netherlands

Do you have a nickname? Fire :-)

Welcome to the site Fire! Great intro. I can safely bet that you now have a new obsession.....I do hope so. Being on these boards is the best SK & DT fix next to
reading his books. I hope to get to know much about you, and your travels. :rose:

I've read King since I picked up Carrie and couldn't put it down. I loved The Gunslinger. It was stark, different and I just wanted more of the character Roland.

Roland is my favorite.

The Gunslinger is my favorite of the books just because the man in black fled across the desert and Roland followed and so did I.

My other fave King is pretty much a tie between The Stand and IT.

I'm old (55)

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
when the first paperback printing of the gunslinger came out, I was maybe 13. I snatched it up because the whole atmosphere of the story seemed intriguing. I really liked the stripped-down and mysterious feel to the novel. The second book followed shortly thereafter and I enjoyed it as well. It saddened me in a way because it seemed like King had little interest in finishing the story. I knew the third book would come, but figured that'd probably be it. Anyway, after years of putting it off, I'm reading the series. I reread the original printing of gunslinger and am rereading the expanded/revised version now. The writing stylistically is much better in the revised version and although it is different in a lot of ways, it is also really enjoyable. I'm excited to get into book II.

Who is your favorite character?

Only having read the first two books, although I like Jake a lot, and Roland is cool, the man in black is the reason I read it in the first place. I followed him through the desert along side Roland.

What is your favorite book?
In terms of the series, I can't judge yet. Of all time, probably Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Murakami.

How old are you?

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
My aunt is a huge Stephen King fan, and she new that I was an avid reader. One day I was looking around on her bookshelf, and I found the Stephen King section. She has turned me on to a number of great authors (McCammon, King, and Straub to name a few) and after first reading the Stand I was hooked. I joined up on the SK message boards, and just continued to read and learn about King's books, I recently started the Dark Tower books after two years of reading King. I'm about halfway through Wolves of the Calla.

Who is your favorite charcter?
Jake or Cuthbert.

What is your favorite book?
Wizard & Glass has been my favorite DT book, but my favorite book is Fahrenheit 451.

How old are you?

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

Well, I had finished reading the first novel series I ever read back in 2007 (or was it 2006, I don't remember, time is going by fast), the harry potter series. I didn't have anything else to pass the time. then, around 3 months ago, my brother Jesse shows me the first dark tower book. I read it, and im thinking Stephen King is fucked in the head, but in a good way. since then i have read the first six books twice, and have yet to read the seventh.

Who is your favorite character?

This is a tough question. My favorite character would have to be Jake.

What is your favorite book?

The Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass

Well thats a long story all its own, but Ill tell you one thing, if it hadnt of been for the first two lines of the book I never wouldve kept reading, I had so much to do and see in those days

Who is your favorite charcter?
My favourite character even from the first book, was Cuthbert, dont ask why I really couldnt tell you even if in the first book Roland only remembers him once or twice, my Fiancee (upon my telling her why I stay up until 2am sometimes reading) even says Im somewhat like him (yes I laugh like an idiot) so I guess its because I identify with him, even though we dont get to know him that well (unless Stephen King decides to do a spin off )

What is your favorite book?
My favourite book would have to be the first one, why you ask? because its the only one that could really be a stand alone from all the rest (provided I havent read the last two because of the little problem I mentioned in another part of this forum which I hope someone here can help me with) and because if it had been the only book in the series it wouldve been the saddest ending I can recall in a long time (for a book)
How old are you?
Im 24 going on 25

Where are you from?
I like to think all over, Ive been to Mexico,France,Peru,Argentina,Honduras, and about 20 states in the continental U.S. but I was born in good ol N.C.

do you have a nickname?
My friends call me Sat. (and no SatampraZeiros isnt my name either the Sat nickname comes from something else, something somewhat embarrassing and innocent at the same time, at least thats what I like to think :pullhair:)

Hey. I'm new.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I bought Insomnia at Walmart back in 2004, read through it, loved it, and on the back it had some of King's other works. Well the one that caught my eye was The Gunslinger. It just sounded badass and I figured with King doing it, it'd be great. So I read it and found out it was a series of books and it worked out great.

Who is your favorite character?
Roland and Eddie are my favorite, and you guys are the last people on the internet I need to explain why.

What is your favorite book?
Book 7 is my favorite. I spent a lot of time reading the books, and fortunately I never had to wait years upon years for a book to come out like some of you did. When I finished the middle books the last books came out, so I planned it pretty nicely. But I still spent a lot of hours reading and loving the series, and it was so great to see Roland finish his quest.

How old are you?
Turned 19 in May. Hoping it's a good year for me

Where are you from?
Born, raised, and living in Arizona, though I do hope to move out of state in a year or two to finish college.

This looks like a great forum, and it's going to be nice to have a bunch of Tower junkies that I can talk to on a daily basis.

How did you discover The Dark Tower?
I read my first Stephen King book, Insomnia, in the fall of my seventh grade year. I had seen a few of his movies and they scared the kaka out of me and I wanted more. Some years later (it's tough to say how many, for a while i got into some bad stuff and time became a face on the water as they say) I was helping clean an old house and came across a battered copy of The Gunslinger. I devoured the rest of the series in short order and became a hooked through the bag tower junkie.

Who is your favorite character?
It's a tie between Cuthbert and Eddie. They're just both such damn smartasses!!

What's your favorite book?
That's tough to call because years ago I stopped looking at them in terms of individual book and called the entire series one. But if I had to pick a favorite section, it would probably be The Gunslinger because it actually changed my life and the way I look at the world.

How old are you?
Just hit the big Three Oh!

Where are you from?
Born and raised in NE LA. Currently living in southern AL, with a two year layover in Waco, TX.

Do you have a nickname?
Several. Wilbur Force is my favorite. My friend John gave it to me.

This was a great idea by the way, Maerlyn. Thanks for the trip down DT memory lane!:rock:

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

I had read two King books when I was a tween. Cycle of the Werewolf & The Gunslinger. In hindsight, I'm not sure I actually read Gunslinger. Too long ago. Fast forward to last year. My wife & I decide to do a book trade. She'll read something I suggest & vice versa. I'm a huge Star Wars fans & that's what got me back into reading as an adult. I had her read a Star Wars trilogy referred to as the Thrawn trilogy. She had me read The Stand. I loved it. I remembered The Gunslinger & I had been collecting the Dark Tower comics because I'm a big comic book fan so I decided to jump in. I just finished The Dark Tower a few days ago & decided to join the site. I still have the comics & Little Sisters of Eluria to read though.

Who is your favorite character?

Roland. But I love Oy!

What is your favorite book?

I really liked Wolves of the Calla but I don't like to play favorites. I look at it as one story. Not seven.

How old are you?

33

Where are you from?

Minnesota

do you have a nickname

I've been on this site for a little while, overwhelmed by all the information and vast knowledge that is available. I am finally getting around to introducing myself, sorry for the delay.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I have had the whole series sitting on my shelf for awhile now. I read The Gunslinger and Drawing of Three almost 10 years ago and ofr some reason that was as far as I got. I now have time again to read and have started over from the beginning and i am currently half way thru The Wastelands.

Who is your favorite character?
I would have to say either Eddie or Jake.

What is your favorite book?
I am only on book 3 and they have all been great. If I have to pick one of three I have read I would say The Wastelands. I will let you know when I finish them all what is is.

How old are you?
40 this month....

Where are you from?
SE Wisconsin

Do you have a nickname?
