Well, well. Somehow ended up here while purchasing the End-World Almanac from Amazon.. Looks just like a place for me to be in. =)

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

Thanks to a certain sai, who told me to read them just a few months ago. I can't believe what I've been missing out for all these 28 years!

Who is your favorite charcter?

Oy the Billy-bumbler. For animals have always been important for me, and I've got two sweet cats - one of them happens to resemble Oy a lot. I'm sure he'd talk, if he could. =) And Roland himself, of course. And Cuthbert Allgood. This person who recommended the DT series, is Cuthbert in flesh himself, so it's quite to guess why I like this person so much.

What is your favorite book?

Apart of DT series, Lord of the Rings.

How old are you?

I've been walking in this world for 28 years.

Where are you from?

From the land of legends and folklore (and quite unsmiling people =), Finland.

Do you have a nickname?

Mostly I'm called Lily, because my real name is causing a bit trouble among my English-speaking friends, so I adopted that nickname here, too.

Glad to meet you all! :)

'lo. The name is Locke.

Some might remember me from an old Dark Tower site where I went under this same screen name. I was moderately active on there for a while, as was my father. Now he's been on here for a bit... so here I am.

I remember you. I was quiddityquest at that other site. Here (and everywhere else) I just use my real name now. It's good to see you.

...and who is your father, Locke?

Edit: Oh hell, I thought your name sounded familiar...though i didn't know you were Jon's son at .net.

Hi! I just found this site a few days ago and I've really enjoyed perusing through a few of the threads, especially on collecting. I'll introduce myself a bit and then search for threads where I can discuss more of my interests annd such.

I'm real busy at work these days and won't have a chance to really jump in with both feet, so be patient.

Over the years I've made a hobby out of 2 book collections, one of which is Stephen King. I own all his books in hardback First Edition. Mostly just the trades, but a few S/L as well. I'm also trying to get all the collections in which King has original works. Still working on that.

I guess there is a thread somewhere to list out everything and compare with others' collections?

My first King book was The Stand, which I read around 1984, while a high school sophomore. Couldn't put it down and to this day it remains my all-time favorite book. I have read all King's books and collections up to Duma Key and the new story collection, both of which I hope to get to this summer.

I don't recall exactly how I got started into the collecting. I think I read Winter's Art of Darkness and became intrigued over the "Stephen King Phenomenon" and started searched first editions out. I must say that prior to the internet, it was more of a treasure hunt--going through used and antiquarian bookstores, looking for first editions. That's actually how I got a lot of the more common firsts (Cujo, Dead Zone, Christine, Skeleton Crew, etc.). I cry when I think what I paid for most of my collection, when now you can't hardly give these away on eBay!

How did you discover the Dark Tower? Don't really remember. I know that I saw DTII in shrinkwrap at a Waldenbooks and I knew to buy it immediately. I didn't come across III until it hit aftermarket and I paid too much for it from an antiquarian bookstore in St. Louis (anyone remember Amitin's bookstore downtown?). I've since bought most of my books via eBay and ABEbooks. I've been active bidding on some things these days. For example, just picked up copy this signed numbered copy (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=320349384024) of The Killer Inside Me (#179).

Who is your favorite charcter? Probably Roland.

What is your favorite book? Easy. Wizard & Glass. I'm a sucker for star-crossed lovers and tragic tales. Cried like a baby at this one, I did. The Wastelands is a close second. Love Blaine.

Oh, and just to get it out there, I'm one of those who **loved** the ending to the series. The only way it could have ended, IMO. Perfect. Certainly better than, oh, defeating the evil with child sex or something. LOL

How old are you? 40

Where are you from? Originally from Shreveport, Louisiana, but have lived quite a few places. Currently in Gainesville, Virginia, and I commute into DC for work.

do you have a nickname? My online handle everywhere is divemaster, or divemaster13.

So, there's me in a nutshell. I hope to find the right threads to discuss my book collecting.

Welcome to the site divemaster. When I first read Gainesville,
I got so excited, I am in Gainesville Florida, and thought what joy
to have a tower junkie so close! Ah well it's a fine post, and I am sure
that you'll be amazed at all the wonderful collections the fine folk in Calvin's
Corner have, and likewise, I am sure they will be a source of information, and
what have you, this place is wonderful, and the people even more so.
I hope that you stick around , and let us come to know more about you. :D

Found this place while looking for other Tower junkies to talk with. No one I know personally has ever read these.

After reading through these King has become my new favorite writer, and I'm currently now working my way through his other material.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

At my school library I found a copy of Christine, and checked it out remembering watching the movie a short while before. I liked it a lot, so I went on the Internet checking for peoples opinions on what was King's best book. The answer from most people being (you guessed it) The Dark Tower.

Who is your favorite character?

I really couldn't tell you, I loved all the characters. I actually came really close to tears in the 7th book. But I think I'd have to say Eddie. If you put a gun to my head. Otherwise I wouldn't say anything. :P

What is your favorite book?

DOTT

How old are you?

I'm probably the youngest person here, just 12.

Where are you from?

Miami, FL

I'm not really ever busy so I'll be on the forums alot, and I hope I can get along with all you guys here the forum.

Hey folks, my name is Jay, I live in Bangor, and have been an ardent admirer of King's stuff since I was a teen. I enjoy photography and tend to favor Historical shots of the Bangor area as well as sites that King references in his books.
-Stuff you wouldn't see while on a Bus tour or if you were not very familiar with the area.

When guests come, the first thing they want to see is Steve's House, but there are far more interesting sites to be seen. Each book that references "Derry" or "Castle rock" and many that do not, (may still have locations that are specific to Bangor or the area)

Imagine reading "IT" while you live just off State St. Hill and you have a sewer drain just outside your house. One can't help but get a little skeeved out by that darned storm DRAIN!

There are locations described that are drawn from a more imaginative place, like "The Barrens" but if you follow the Kenduskeag stream up a ways, it broadens out to what is obviously the place described in the book, -sewer pipes and all.

I could list a dozen "Derry" places that are not on any Tour guide but -do- exist.
-But this is stuff that would only be interesting to the most ardent and avid of King readers.

A few places that always tug at my mind are; 'the curve across from Mt Hope cemetery, where the taxi slid off the road in "Dead Zone" I can't drive by there without the hair standing up on my neck. (Also) When Johnny's physical therapist's House catches on fire, -that house is basically the house that Tabitha grew up in, it's on Academy Hill in Old Town. These tie-ins, sometimes definitive, sometimes imaginative, always put an extra interesting twist on the tales. -Like the little Pet Cemetery behind a row of houses in Orrington. -And the massive OrringCo trucks that bomb through at break neck speeds alllll true! I find myself scanning the right side of the road -to catch a glimpse of Fred Gwynne sitting on his front porch LOL!

If you have a location in 'Derry', 'Castle Rock' or in Maine that intrigues you, and you would like to see what it "looks like" just send me the relevant descriptive text from the paragraph that describes the area, and I would be glad to go out and snaps some 'fotergraffs"

I will start off with a "then Vs now"

I am aware that a local photographer took pictures of many of theses places and made a 'coffee table' book, -but I always thought I could do better.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
Well, as a Stephen King fan, references to DT are pretty much unavoidable. I only started reading them when I found out they were published in matching covers here (yes, I'm that anally retentive sometimes :))

Who is your favorite character?
Roland, of course, you can't not like him. But the rest of the Ka-Tet are amazing characters as well. Very difficult to choose, so I'm not going to.

What is your favorite book?
Wizards and Glass. Probably regarded as the best of the entire series by others too.

How old are you?
I'm twenty. Turning 21 in just a month.

Where are you from?
The Netherlands. I just switched to reading novels in English that were written that way. I got bothered by some of the translating done, and I decided to switch over. It actually wasn't that hard.

do you have a nickname?
None that I know of. I also don't know if that's a good thing or not :P.

Hey, I wouldn't mind seeing the Barrens you speak of, see if they are anything like what I imagine them to be. Probably not, ha ha.

Maybe start a new thread for requests I guess.

Also, I can't remember the name of it, Dark Scour Lake maybe?, the one Cara Laughs was on, if that's real or based on a real lake, that would be a neato picture.

Thanks and http://bestsmileys.com/welcome/18.gif

A fellow drinker!!!

Good deal.

And I like it as cheap as it gets: Kentucky Deluxe (whiskey), Pine and Post (wine) and Hurricane (beer). You can get a tall boy Hurricane for 79 cents.

Done Whidden, I went down to the Barrens today and snapped some fottergraffs ;>

I'll bet it looks more like you thought, -than you thought (it would)!

Definitely a creepy place.

As for the lake, I think it may in reality be "Pushaw" if so, I can get pics, I would need to see the relevant text that describes the location.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

I think The Gunslinger was in a bag of novels my aunt gave me when I was around 14 or so.

Who is your favorite charcter?

Tough one. Jake, probably.

What is your favorite book?

In the series, Wizard and Glass.

How old are you?

30

Where are you from?

South Boston, MA: the Irish Riviera.

do you have a nickname?

My screenname is a bumperstumperized version of it. Mighty One, or Mighty, or El Mighterino, if you're not into the whole brevity thing. 8)

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I didn't as much as discover The Dark Tower as I'd already read quite a lot of Stephen King books and I wanted to read the series sometime. I tried twice to read The Gunslinger, the first time I didn't get very far. The second time I finished it and continued with the second one which I personally found much more enjoyable. And then it went on from there.

Who is your favorite character?
Callahan, even if he's only in there for a while. I've liked him ever since since I read Salem's Lot years ago, so that was also incentive to read the series. I also do like Cuthbert.

What is your favorite book?
That'll likely be the second one.

How old are you?
18 years old.

Where are you from?
Denmark. That one odd country where people speak danish and are danes. I've stopped counting the times I've been called a "Denmarkian", I really have ^^;

Do you have a nickname?
Yeah, my name's Josephine so I usually go by Josie or Jo.

So, why did you join the forum?
I felt this should be answered because it says something about me and it might amuse some people just a tiny bit. I've known this was here and I've had it in my bookmarks, but I haven't checked in very often as a guest. Just today I looked a bit more around the forum and saw the mention of a possible con in London. Combine that with being a Dark Tower fan in general and the fact there's a requirement for being able to buy the bracelets... I have a problem with resisting shiny stuff, it's all very sad :P

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I was browsing books in an antique store, in search of more S.K. books when I stumbled upon the DT series (the first three) and was hooked. Then I had to wait (for an eternity it seemed, and felt) when King finally released the "Wizard and Glass" and so on. So I have always been a King fan. Now more so.

Who is your favorite charcter?
Roland of course! There's nothing to debate.

What is your favorite book?
Hmm.. They're all good! But the first three have a special place in my heart, so I'll say that's these ones..

How old are you?
32. And if Ka wills it, I'll get older.
Where are you from?
My mother's womb :excited: Well - Copenhagen in Denmark.

do you have a nickname?
Yes, that one I'm currently registered with.

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
I feel madly in love with The Stand. Loved Flagg & the story. My older brother bent my ear for months about the dark tower books until I eventually bought The Gunslinger. The rest is history.

Who is your favorite charcter?
Eddie. Loved him from the moment I saw him in my minds eye.

What is your favorite book?
Toughie but I would have to say Wolves Of The Calla just over Wizard And Glass.

How old are you?
24

Where are you from?
London, England.

do you have a nickname?
Not really.

Thanks.

My name is Raymundo Flores

I live in Hayward, California

I discovered the dt series by going to the library and checking out stephen King books. I thought that Stephen King only wrote about stupid investingative books that are a lot like CSI, but when I saw the gunslinger, I was immediately interested because I used to always think that King's books were corny.

I am 15 turning 16 on June 9th 2009

My favorite dt book, so far, is the wastelands, because I just love the idea of a crazy train. I always think of Ozzie Osborne's song Crazy Train when I read that part in the wastelands.

My favorite Character is Roland of Gilead, because it's all of his experiences. He's experienced every type of person. Junkies, Whores, western people, you name it, he's experienced it.

How did you discover the dark tower?
I got my friend into SK and he just found the gunslinger and told me i HAD to read it!

What is your favorite character?
This is really hard! I love roland so much..but the man in black is so cool..and i love jake!

What is your favorite book?
This is also so hard! at a push its got to be between the drawing of the three and wizard and glass

How old are you?
im 23

Where you from?
North east of england

Do you have a nickname?
Not really..well none that i know of!!!

Im new to this site too..so hi to all you other dark tower nuts!! :grouphug:

Welcome to the path of the beam you two. I hope you enjoy the site.

Hi all!

I'm Nick. I'm working for an helicopter manufacturer. I am French and please apologize me for my english.

Now to answer the basic questions!

* How did you discover the Dark Tower?
By mistake! I bought the "The Dark Tower V: Wolves of the Calla" and I do not really know why (someone would say it's the ka...).
I just followed it. Then I said to myself. It's a pity to begin by this one, let's buy the 1st one.
And I didn't stop reading except to read Salem's Lot between "Wizard and Glass" and "Wolves of the Calla".
Again I don't know why. But it allowed me to know Father Callahan and his history. And this even before I knew he would become a new and main character of "Wolves of the Calla".

* Who is your favorite charcter?
Roland even though it's hard to choose his is the dinh.

* What is your favorite book?
The Dark Tower and inside The Dark Tower series hum, let me finish the VII and maybe I will know the answer.
At the moment I did appreciate a bit more "Song of Susannah" but all are good ("book"-tet? xD)

* How old are you?
I'm 29 and soon 30 unfortunately but we are in the key world right? one way time? or aren't we? :)

* Where are you from?
I'm from France, well near Marseille (no lobstrosities over here fortunately).

* do you have a nickname?
For Internet sometimes I used Rob The Mosquito. I like it. I keep it.

If you want to know more, just contact me! Thank you.

Hi there,
I have been collecting Stephen's works for about 10 years now. The first book I read was The Stand in a used paperback movie tie-in edition and I loved it. Still have it and have added quite a few books to my collection since then. Just discovered this website yesterday and was happy to see a few people that an old friend of mine, Atsuko, used to purchase from several years ago. She spoke highly of them and I know they were good to her. Hello Carlosdetweiller, and Hutch in particular. Read a lot of posts asking questions about rare items that I might be able to answer. Hope to get to know you all soon.
Cheers.

I really LOVE this website, it has one of the best overviews of King collectibles I've come across, great collection threads, and great threads on the DT series and SK in general. But what I like the best is the friendly, warm, and welcoming atmosphere of these boards. Well done!

Hi! I'm Patrick, of New York. Currently reading the 7th book. I actually just started reading King about a year ago, beginning with The Stand, but already he's among my favorite authors. And the Dark Tower books are definitely my favorites, possibly my favorite books of all time.

Anyway, hi!

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
Ummm... My Friend who tends never to lead me astray when it comes to books told me to read it and needless to say I did.

Who is your favorite character?
Roland, as many people before me have said he is a fantastic character and due to King's brilliant mind he is quite possibly the best character in any book I've read. I'm also gonna say Cort, because of the way he does things and his apparent amazing skill at riddling (the ability to think sideways eludes me).

What is your favorite book?
Ummm.. Truthfully I haven't finished then all yet but I believe that Wizard and Glass would be my favorite

My brother introduced me to The Dark Tower Series when I was in 6th grade. I read each book as it became available to me until the very last one. The last book took me longer to finish than the others ever did. I'm not sure why because I really liked it. I should have finished it in record time. I suppose with a wife and two little ones, it was harder to find time to read again. Anyway, Roland is obviously the best character because he is the center of attention but secondly I choose Eddie Dean. However, it is very difficult to choose one character from a series of books that depicts its charactrers so well.
Stephen King was the first author that I really enjoyed reading. Since the Dark Tower Series however I have read many books and I still say, the guy knows how to captivate a reader and plunge him/her into the story better than most.
The Wastelands is probably my favorite book of the series, however, I was very impressed in how King ended the story in the last book. He does have a history of not ending stories in a fashion that everyone can enjoy, but this one was done perfectly. In my mind, there was no other way to end such an epic journey.
I am very anxious to see the movie(s). Most of the movies made from Kings' stories fall short of my expectations, but I am hopeful for The Dark Tower Series. Even if it sucks, you can bet your ass I will watch it to the end so I can formulate my opinions and discuss with other Dark Tower Junkies.
Long live the King!

How did you discover the Dark Tower?
A friend recommended it to me a few years ago, right before I went into the army, and I didn't get a chance to read it until recently (I just finished Wolves of the Calla, started on Song of Susannah)

Who is your favorite charcter?
Roland! I'm in love with this man! (So far) All the other girls can have their frilly Sparkly guys, but I love this gunslinger! lol

What is your favorite book?
So far, I think the wastelands, but i'm not sure I could really pick.

How old are you?
23, as of yesterday, actually.

Where are you from?
I'm from a very small town in Eastern KY (Don't believe everything you see on TV about this place, Children of the Mountains was absolutely retarded, and I think someone should sue Barbra Walters for putting something like that on the air.)

do you have a nickname?
Well, my name is Elizabeth, so I have a lot, Beth is the most common, and I quite like it!

How did you discover the Dark Tower? -- I picked up a copy of The Gunslinger at a book drive when I was in 4th grade (or was it 5th grade?) It took me 6 years to read it LoL, mostly because I didn't want to read anything.

Who is your favorite character? -- Roland is awesome. Jake became my favorite for the series the more he matured.

What is your favorite book? -- The Drawing of the Three

How old are you? -- 25

Hello everyone!

Thanks for having me! I am a HUGE Dark Tower fan and was excited to find this forum. Well, I am a HUGE Roland fan. LOL I think it's great that everyone is here having a great time talking about an amazing set of books in a frightening and adventurous universe!

To answer the questions you asked:

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

Well, I can't remember the year. Probably the late 80's early 90's - something like that. I checked out the Dark Tower: The Gunslinger from the Library and LOVED the illustrations. I read the book and while it scared me, I enjoyed it and was OBSESSED by the time I had finished the Drawing of the Three - which is probably my favorite story. At least, it's SO EXCITING! The doors.... haha What a fun book! Scary, but fun.

Who is your favorite charcter?

Roland is my favorite character. He is flawed and would sacrifice ANYTHING to get to the Tower, but he is the best. I always picture him as me - how geeky is that!!!??

What is your favorite book?

Drawing of the Tree is probably the best book, if short, in my opinion. Song of Susannah is the one book I will never read again. I thought it was terrible. I just LOVE the excitement of the Drawing of the Three!

How old are you?

I'm in my 30's - married, with kids, and a Grad Student. I'm going to be a Teacher, Early Childhood Ed.

Where are you from?

I'm from Arkansas. Probably will move to San Fran when we finish our Graduate studies.

do you have a nickname?

When your name is Chuck, it's really pointless to have a nickname! haha But I do have a few geeky hobbies. I enjoy replica movie props, reading and studying the film making process, and Star Trek and Star Wars. I LOVE reading.

I also am HEAVILY involved in local charity work, and I believe that Charity work is our duty to other needy human beings. Most people tend to agree with me, just choose to do nothing to help. But thats for another post.

Anyway, I am SO happy to be here with other Roland and Tower fans. I look forward to meeting you all and saying hello!

Thanks again!

----Chuck
