I had been a long time Stephen King Fan when I came accross a first edition of The Gunslinger when pregnant with my fisrt child, I still have that copy and my Son is now 19 and read the series himself. I found the first book hard going, very unlike anything of his that I had read before but I persevered and became as hooked as everyone else.

Oy, i'm suprised he hasn't been mentioned before but after that it would be Eddie.

The Wolves of the Calla in TDT series but Cujo overall

I don't even remember. Heard about it a long time ago though, and figured I should start reading something so I'm not so horribly bored at work, stumbled upon The Gunslinger at Waldenbook's so I grabbed it and been hooked since.

Who is your favorite character?

Currently about 2/3 into Wizard and Glass, but Roland (Obviously) and Jake.

What is your favorite book?

The Drawing of the Three, easily. The other books weren't bad, but The Gunslinger was rather uneventful (And for being the introductory book, that's okay), and Wizard and Glass is moving at a snail's pace it seems. I guess I just prefer reading about Roland and his Ka tet as opposed to flashbacks. (And Susan annoys me)

Well, I am a stay at home mom, right now, but I actually made a nice little "career" out of bartending for several yrs. I'm a R&R fanatic - doesn't matter if it's Doo-Wop from the 40's, or limpbizkit - I'm addicted to it :drool:
Been reading SK since I was pretty small(around 8 or 9) and fell in love IMMEDIATELY! When DT series started coming out, I made myself wait until the last one was announced to be released to start reading them. Man! what a great experience!!
At the moment, I have just abandoned this crazy idea of re-reading DT's, along w/a couple of other things that I've become interreted in. Just not too realistic w/4 kids and Just After Sunset coming out soon:)
This site looks like alot of fun, and the people have lots of cool things to say. I'm a little intimidated by the idea of just keeping up!

How I discovered the dark Tower:
The woman who would later become my wife handed me the "gunslinger" one day right before I left for work with the sheriffs office. From that point I was hooked, read them all strait through, say true!

i would say read all the dark tower books in order, then read the connector books. i would start with insomnia, then the talisman, then black house. then the stand. then bag of bones. then move on from there. but others might have differing views.

It was back in the early 90's, me preparing for a long train-trip. I wasn't such a great King-Fan back then (ummm....still not to be honest), but opened the book and read the first phrase (The black man fled through the desert and the Gunslinger followed him, or something like that). Plain and simple. That got me hooked. Let me say that I wasn't disappointed with most of the following Tower books, but Stephen, you REALLY REALLY screwed the finish. There. It's out!:):pullhair:

How did you discover the Dark Tower?

My man had DT3 and DT4... had them for some time... then this year for his b-day I got him the others.... Up until last year you would not have caught me dead reading a book... hated reading, couldnt stand even doing it when it was required by my college profs.... BUT in April of 2007 I fell in love with (sorry sia King) Louis L'Amour while listening to an audio story of his in my mans semi-truck. I started reading Louis... and now a little over a year later, I am almost out of Louis to read(only 16 of his books left to read including both fiction and non-fiction). When I bought Shawn his birthday books (DT1-2&5-7) I noticed that the first one was called "Gunslinger" Being that I fell in love with Louis L'Amour due to his great westerns, I had no choice other than to pick up DT1 and start reading... the title was calling me like the Dark Tower calls Roland.

So.. here I sit, 18 days later, trying to decide if I should read that last chapter of DT7... hoping that just by reading others thoughts it will make it easier to go on, when I know I shouldn't for Stephen King himself says not to.

This summer I lived in a house with 12 people (I know it sounds crazy but it was a lot of fun!) and three of my roommates were reading the series. I got hooked fourth but eventually the whole house joined in. I think I was the biggest fan of then all though, out of all 12 I finished first.

I love all of the ka-tet (plus Callahan), but it might be an indication that I named my new puppy Jake that he's really my number one.

How did you discover the Dark Tower? I had read several King books starting at age 9, I think Cujo was my first. I made it a point on my bi-weekly trips to the library to seek out the ones I had not read yet. I happened upon The Gunslinger, read the first line and just sat back. To me that first line was probably the most profound and best opening line in his books thus far. I was instantly hooked.

Who is your favorite charcter? Zoltan (Joking!) Probably would have to be Cuthbert. I wish that there would have been more about him, and a bigger part of the series, but I understand why SK wrote it the way he did.

After the Journey of the Tower I felt like I truly knew those People. Astounding........ Oh I also like Aaron Deepknow .......... Moses Carver if I remember correctly....... etc etc. Basically everyone serving the beams were noble characters all with a sense of duty :rock:

First... let me apologize in advance if I'm wordy or don't make much sense, it's just that I am so utterly relieved to have at last found a group of fellow addicts. Check my profile (if I filled it out correctly) for any personal info, but the first time I read through the series was when I was deployed to Iraq and when we weren't out on missions I unwound with Roland and his ka-tet.

Now, a couple years later, I have picked up the books to reacquaint myself with the saga, and have found myself utterly swept away yet again, (MUCH more so than the first time if that's even possible). You know, I've just started the final book again, and I find excuses to put it down because I'm so reluctant for it to come to an end. When reading Wizard and Glass most recently *SPOILERS?* I put it down for a good month because I knew what was going to happen to Susan but couldn't bear to experience it again.

So anyway, I'm a DT nut... and I am absolutely stoked to have found a community of like-minded folks. Long days and pleasant nights,

I first read The Gunslinger right when DotT came out and I was 10. Of course, I then had to wait the agonizing 17 years to finish the story. Anyone who gets to read it now straight through has no idea how lucky they are!

Hello everyone!

I've been a passive browser of the site for a few weeks, and have been trying to register for the past couple of them! Each time, I haven't received the activation link! Anyway, it's arrived, to my complete suprise... and here I am!

1: How did I discover the DT?
I'm a writer. I have been writing novels for the past five years, and I'm part way through a trilogy of novels which fit into the 'Post Apocalyptic Western' genre. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to look up other novels in the genre, for some inspiration, and I came across The Gunslinger.
I couldn't put it down. I read it from front to back in an afternoon. I always knew King was a legendary author, but I had no idea he was THIS creative :)
I just ordered the other six novels in the saga from Amazon.co.uk.
I can't wait to read them.

2: Favorite character?
I'm only at the very beginning of my journey to the Dark Tower; so I'd have to say Roland of Gilead.

3: What is my favorite book?
This is a very difficult question to answer for me, having read so many. I would say that currently, it's The Gunslinger. In the past, though, I have been known to read 'The Wasp Factory' and 'The Bridge' by Iain Banks more than once.

It was my junior year of high school, right before April vacation. We had to write a paper on what three people--alive or dead, fictional or real--we'd invite to a dinner party. A friend invited Roland, and told me that I had to read The Gunslinger as well as listen to Tool and A Perfect Circle. Which led to a journey that lasted until the end of that school year, when I finally found a copy of The Gunslinger as well as Lateralus by Tool. The first time I read The Gunslinger, I really didn't get into it. At all. But I gave it another shot that summer and followed through until the very end.

That's a really tough question, there were so many good characters, both among the "good" and the "bad."

I found out about the Dark Tower after reading the Talisman and Black House about three years ago. Right now I'm in Calla Bryn Sturgis for the third time, and I've been stuck there for quite a while. I don't read much now, there's just too much going on in my head.

My favourite character is Eddie. Cuthbert is a close second, but I just don't know him as well as I know Eddie. Best book would be the Wastelands or the Drawing, I think. Because back then it all just seemed like a crazy adventure, not complicated like the second half of the series.

I haven't really used my English in five years or so, so if I make any silly grammar or spelling mistakes, that's probably why. Feel free to correct me when I'm wrong, I want to learn!

I had started to read The Stand when I was about 14 or 15, then I was introduced to Randall Flagg/Walter o'Dim in that book, and I was fascinated when I found out that he was also in the Dark Tower series. So I checked out the Gunslinger, and yada yada yada, now I'm love with the series.

Who is your favorite charcter?
It's a toss-up between Cuthbert and Alain, 'cause I feel like I can relate more to Alain, but Cuthbert is so... cool. I'd probably go with Bert, if it do please ya, because I love that scene where he beats up Roland.

What is your favorite book?
Of the series, Wizard and Glass. Of all time? I reall don't know. Right now it's The Forever War, by Joe Haldeman. Check it out.

Ello all ive been a Dark Tower fan for over fifteen years, I read Drawing of the Three in Junior High and got hooked. Im now hooked to the comics and very much look forward to reading everyones thoughts. I Spend a lot of time in Second Life where ive been trying to get a Mid World sim started, SL is the perfect platform for The Dark Tower, do to the multible worlds provided there. there seems to be a lot of DT fans in there but were so scattered if anyone is in world my av name is Savage Sewell "and im a gunslilnger" lol (wow that sounded dramatic) look forward to all your thoughts.
