I don't think I ever formally introduced myself on the site... just kind of jumped into Calvin's Corner. None the less, here we go:

Don't remember exactly, I know my uncle is a huge King fan, and I read my first ('Salem's Lot) when I was 12. As for when I got onto the Dark Tower - who knows! I've read them so many times its all a blur.

Who is your favorite charcter?

I'm a fan of most, but I've always had a soft spot for Roland and Oy. As the series progressed I was happy that Callahan showed up.

What is your favorite book?

Its hard to pick one, I always read them back-to-back as if they are a whole. I guess Wizard and Glass if I had to choose.

I've always been a big Stephen King fan but never picked up the Dark Tower series until last January. I had seen the books but never got around to reading them until somebody said that I should give it a try. I got done reading the first book and was hooked from then on. I think I read the whole series in about 4 or 5 months.

I think it's a toss up between Roland and Jake.

What is your favorite book?
My favorite book would have to be The Dark Tower. There is just SO much that happens in that book. I think I finished the book in a week.

I would like to start by saying I have tried other forums and usually am too shy to jump right in and post, but I love Roland ever so and so here I is...

I did not discover :pirate: "The Dark Tower" as I read it right when it came out just like any other Stephen King book ever written. Of course this one was different. It had a different feel and totally different voice that I had never heard whispered in my ear before. (That's what reading King is like to me, someone whispering a great story right into my ear). Anyhow, I read my 1st King book ("Cujo") when I was 7 or 8 and went on from there.

My fav character if I am not being obvious and saying Roland is a Jake Oy combo. I love Oy desperately and even began calling my cat Oy (his real name is Mr. Furry Pants, or Pants for short) he got confused :panic: so I stopped. Sometimes now I call him Magoo because he is sooo graceful.

My fav book in the series is "Wizard and Glass". The romancy stuff :huglove: really humanized Roland for me.

I am from Milwaukee which is where Peter Straub is from as well and writes about quite a bit in his books. You have to be here to reckognize...

I don't really have a nick name. Alot of people called me JJ in high school, but no more. Now I am simply Jen.

I have tried to post on other things before as I said. I usually do not have enough self esteem to think anyone could possibly give a crap about me or my interests, but Roland has been a huge part of my entire life. Yes I was one of the many traumatized fans who actually waited 7 years for the next part of the series. While waiting I simply re read the first 3 over and over.

My father always used to say if he could be anyone it would be cross between Sam Eliott, Clint Eastwood and a tiny bit of Tom Sellick. He died some time ago and so Roland became my Daddy because that is how I always pictured him in my mind. I read the 1st 2 books with my Dad and he loved them. It broke my heart when I finished the last book and realized Dad would never get to experience this. I could never talk Roland with him again. (or our version of "Who's on First"... "Did you read "It"?... I liked "It"... Yeah "It" was great" etc.)
So is there anybody out there? If you care at all about my opinions and would like to chat or whatever... let me know. Don't worry, I won't get my hopes up too high.:(

here, click on the way station (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/forumdisplay.php?f=4) to start then jump into palaver (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/index.php) and wander around. there's a description of what everything is and what it contains. just find some places you like and start reading. if you've finished the series you don't have to worry about spoilers. there are games, discussions about everything (really, i do mean everything), question and answer sections. you name it we've probably got it.

and if you get stuck, just ask someone where ever you are. :)

Hello you all!
My name's Javier, and I'm a Medicine student from Saragossa, Spain, 19 years old. People in Malaga, where I study, call me "Súper", and here in Saragossa, "Cuca". Here, Javi should be enough.:P
I've been a Stephen King avid reader since I was 10 years old, and knew of the Dark Tower since a few years after that (mostly from seeing the books in libaries)... I didn't start to read it, however, till summer 2007, once I informed myself about it, and its core place in Stephen King's works. I read till I reached 1/3 of Wizard and Glass right then, stopped because of exams, and took it again this summer. Today I've started the 7th part of the saga, and plan to finish it in a few days.
From the past books, the one I've most liked was The Waste Lands... it had a very distinct adventure feel, I think... although I think the current one (Dark Tower itself) will take its place once I finish it. My favourite character is Pere Callahan, I love the complexity of the personnage and his quest to redeem himself.
I will do little reading till I finish the book in order to avoid spoilers, but hope to contribute as soon as I do, as much as I can.
Long days and pleasant nights!
P.D: I'm a writer myself, although I've got a creative stop right now. I will look for a literary section on the board.

Welcome Javi, I think I read through The Dark Tower in a week. The only reason it took me that long was because I have two kids and I was reading it during the summer so I had to watch them during the day. When I finally had a chance to myself to read I was staying up till 12 reading every night. You'll have to let us know what you think about the book when you get finished.

HOW DID YOU DISCOVER THE DARK TOWER?

I've been a Stephen King fan since i was 8 & never really got around to the DT series until I was in high school. I picked up The Gunslinger, breezed thru it kind of half-assed, made it a couple chapters into The Drawing of the Three and laid it down for approximately 4 years. Gotta say that it didn't really get its hooks into me. Then on a whim, with nothing new or interesting to read at the time, i figured I'd give The Gunslinger another shot. It was like reading a completely different book (why I haven't the foggiest). I was transported. Blew thru Dot3,WL, & W&G, thirsty for more when i hit the brick wall that was SK's "little" hiatus. Man was i steamed. Granted, it had nothing on you loyal readers who had hooked up with Roland in the very beginning (I can only imagine what that was like), but it sucked nonetheless.
At any rate, read all the way thru to the end, & have never been more satisfied by a book or series

I have read all of Stephen King's books, my favourites being The Stand and The Talisman and so was instantly enamoured by the Dark Tower. I must admit I read Drawing of the Three first and I had found it in a sales bin in a bookstore! I immediately went out to find The Gunslinger and it spiralled from there!!

I've been a big King fan since college. A friend of mine had a copy of DT1 and I asked him if the series was any good. He said it's the best series he's ever read. Later, while looking in the King section of my bookstore I bought 'The Gunslinger'. That was about 2 months ago. I have been devouring these books - just finished 'Wizard and Glass', just started 'Wolves of Calla'. I am enthralled!

Let me explain this a bit more in detail.

Look at the upper left and see a link that says "private messages." Click it and then on the new page you will see, under "settings and options you will see "edit your Avatar." Click on this link. There you will see two options. The first is to upload from an existing web page. Do this by copying the link from the web page with the picture you want then pasting it there. (be sure to erase the "Http://www as your site will already have this and you would be repeating it with a paste, thus making a bad link.)


Option2. Browse from your computer.

Click on the box that says "Browse." Usually your "My Pictures" will appear...maybe your "My Documents." Of "My Documents" appears, just click the pull down menu and select "My pictures." (This all assumes the picture you want is in "My Pictures." Click on the image you want in your "My Pictures" window that popped up and select "open" at the bottom right of the new window. Whichever option you choose, be sure to click on "save changes" in this site's "Edit my avatar" page. This is located near the bottom center after you open your photo or paste the "HTTP:/// etc...

I never knew about DT when I saw a book called "The Wastelands" lying around in the shelf for the longest time 'til I found time to read it, and when I started, I never wanted to stop :D .. It was the first DT book I read, actually, and from there I thought I had to find the rest of the books. I love DT.

I just finished book 7 last night, and the ending honestly made me lose sleep.


How did you discover the Dark Tower?

A fluke actually, I like to read, but i usually don't unless it's a certain series I have already started or is recommended to me. For grade 10 english this year we had to do a sort of book talk kinda thing ( i hate school assignments) , and i was interesting in reading some Steven King because my mom often read his books. The school librairian( pardon my spelling), referred me to the gunslinger. I finished The Gunslinger, and now, maybe 5 months later, I also finished the rest of the series.

Who is your favorite charcter?

Thats a tough one, but Roland and Eddie are both really close. Although I really did like Oy, too.

My favorite book outside the Dark Tower series is definately The Stand.
Inside the series though, it might be Wizard and Glass. The last book was amazing don't get me wrong, and I loved reading it, but, I was almost too sad at the events to fully enjoy it.

I started reading King in the mid-80s with Firestarter. I read everything I could get my hands on and came across The Gunslinger in my college library. Honestly, I was a bit put off by the writing and pace at the time (not knowing that a lot of it was already 17 years old). Then the same library got a copy of Drawing of the Three and the addiction was on.

Who is your favorite character?
Cuthbert. I love his sense of humor, but he shows a surprising depth of character during the limited time we get to know him. I wish King found more room for him throughout the cycle.

How did you discover the Dark Tower? I had read a few SK books, Misery was the one that sticks out in my mind the most, and loved them. One day when I was a Soph. in HS I wandered aimlessly through the SK section and happened upon "The Gunslinger." From that point on I was hooked.

Who is your favorite charcter? Hands down Roland circa The Gunslinger was/is the greatest fictional(maybe:)) character off all time. I didn't really enjoy seeing the emotional side of his come out in the later books but he is still my fav. I also loved Cuthbert but unfortunately he wasn't able to make too many appearances.

How did you discover the Dark Tower? I had read a few SK books, Misery was the one that sticks out in my mind the most, and loved them. One day when I was a Soph. in HS I wandered aimlessly through the SK section and happened upon "The Gunslinger." From that point on I was hooked.

Who is your favorite charcter? Hands down Roland circa The Gunslinger was/is the greatest fictional(maybe:)) character off all time. I didn't really enjoy seeing the emotional side of his come out in the later books but he is still my fav. I also loved Cuthbert but unfortunately he wasn't able to make too many appearances.

What is your favorite book? The Gunslinger, W&G

hello everyone. my name is sabrina, i'm a 20 year old girl from connecticut, and i am giggling uncontrollably as i join this community because i can't believe there are really this many people as obsessed with the Dark Tower as i am. also because i smoke a lot of pot. my friends all make fun of me incessantly because i seem to relate everything to that whole world. i am notorious for getting all excited when i meet someone my age who actually reads books and harassing them until they want to read all 7 books tomorrow. i only recently found out there are graphic novels... about creamed my pants. those are priority number one to acquire as soon as i can. i don't have a computer of my own, so my rantings will be infrequent, but i am so glad that i'm not alone anymore on this! i hope we're well met!

How did you discover the Dark Tower? I read IT, I was like "Holy ***", and when I read about this "magnum opus" on Wikipedia, I looked up mangum opus and then was like "Holy crap, I have to read this!" I was driven to the bookstore where I picked up The Gunslinger, and I started the series.

Who is your favorite character? Ed. Oh, Dark Tower wise. Well, my favorite character is at least a variation on that name, Eddie Dean, because he's just a really cool person who's been through alot and learned from all his experiences but also didn't turn into cold, serious guy like Roland in the beginning of the series.

What is your favorite book? All-book wise, IT or Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. DT wise, The Waste Lands.

How old are you? I don't want to disclose that just yet, but soon I'll be able to.

Where are you from? New York. But I barely remember that.

hello everyone,
I started reading The Dark Tower after I read The Eyes of the Dragon (i randomly found The Eyes of the Dragon while browsing at the local library) and I thought "hm, does king have any other novels of a similar, not so horroresque but more fantasy oriented, style?" (I didn't know king's stuff that well) so I researched a bit and found The Dark Tower. At the time everyone was reading Lord of the Rings and I wanted to be different and read an epic adventure series that had real merit but that none of my friends were reading (don't ask me why). It has worked out pretty well so far.
I'm here because i want to put my ideas on to the table and also be able to be inspired/educated/enlightened/entertained etc. by everyone else's thoughts.
I have a particular interest in the potential dramatization of the story through either film(s) or a tv mini series because I am a filmmaker by profession and I love the Dark Tower. I have a lot of opinions about this j.j.abrams business (that might sound harsh but it's not necessarily meant to be, not yet anyways), the discussion of which is beyond the scope of this current post and as such i'll just end it by saying I hope to be able to contribute to this forum in a good way.
