Due to serious problems with spammers, thedarktower.org created a new member group that is screened for spam prior to becoming an official member.

Until you have five posts, all posts will be screened for spam, and you will not be able to edit your signature, send private messages (PMs), or play in the arcade (see full list below). Also, since all posts will be screened, some posts containing certain key words the screening system recognizes as spam, may be listed to be moderated, and may not show up right when you post.

Once you do have five posts you will be automatically transferred to regular member status and will receive all of the same benefits a regular member receives. :D

Oh, and welcome to thedarktower.org! :)

perhaps accessing certain things should redirect the new guys to this page
(Casino, Arcade, control panel, etc) or maybe once they finish registering.

Hello, everyone! I was looking to PM someone here, but for some reason I keep getting asked to sign in. It says 'thanks for signing in'... and then takes me back to the sign-in page. I've made six posts so far, so is there another reason that I can't PM yet? Thanks for the help!

Posts only count in topic threads by the way, off topic areas, like Dixie Pig and Blue Heaven do not count, well ALL of your posts count, but not all posts will increase your post count...does that make sense?:wtf:

Welcome to the site c1nn4m0n.

Are you trying to post a photo?

You should still be able to see them!

c1nn4m0n
04-25-2009, 05:16 PM
No, I was reading the tattoo thread which has many attached images that I am dying to see. When I click on the link I am taken to the page with the message telling me I don't have access.

c1nn4m0n
04-25-2009, 05:17 PM
Hopefully this works.

This is the message I am getting:

c1nn4m0n, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

turtlex
04-25-2009, 05:21 PM
That's odd... the thread should have viewable images imbeded.

Can you see this :

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/631/medium/TheTower.jpg

The above is hosted in our own gallery.

( on the bright side, you're already at 3 posts! )

c1nn4m0n
04-25-2009, 05:25 PM
I can see that without a problem. There are many pictures on the tattoo thread I can see as well, which show up embedded as yours above. There are some that are links and when I click them I get the message above.

Thanks for your help!

turtlex
04-25-2009, 05:29 PM
Hmmm... I guess because those other one's are hosted off-site and it would be a re-direct.

Well, just one more post and you're done anyways. Check out the Introduce Yourself thread, post there and you're in !!!

Hannah
04-26-2009, 07:28 AM
I will go in and check our before 5 member permissions and see if there is anything that would be disabling Cinnamon from seeing attachments.

edit: okay i'll still go in and check, but like turtlex said, now that you're at more than five posts it shouldn't be a problem. :D

Why is it when I go to The King Collectibles Catalog and click on Edition State Book Directory, I get the following message?

Eric719691, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?

If anyone could help that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Eric

Matt

I need to take that out of there Eric, nothing you did at all.

The "books" were part of a wiki system that is turned off right now, the message really should say it doesn't exist.

This will teach me to temporarily ignore posts which are clearly meant for me to read BEFORE I spend any time getting my settings/profile in order so I can begin reading/posting to a new forum.

("Hey you! Yeah, I'm talking to you! The new member who hasn't posted more than 5 times yet! READ ME FIRST before you waste 2 hours searching the website for help figuring out how to add a signature to your new-member profile settings!")

Hope this counts as #1 of those 5. :wtf:

Actually we do not encourage the uninformed to post just for the sake of posting. In fact we don't encourage the informed to do so either. Posting for the sake of just posting is pointless regardless of who's doing it. We do however love it when new friends post and are quite happy to help the uninformed become somewhat more informed if they're receptive to help. Anyhow, welcome to the site. :)

Shawn, please make relevant posts. You have been here a couple of days and should know that posting "hmmm?' in a 6 month old thread is of no contribution to the site.
FAQ Section 1(A) Members should always seek to keep their posts applicable to the topic they are posting in.

Shawn
01-23-2012, 02:53 PM
If you apply every rule of FAQ then this 75% of this site would crumble to nothing ... its should be about Mr.King and the Tower books instead ..o well you know so even though you are very right and have been here since 2007 .....doesnt make it so that i should feel pushed into doing something .. it contributes to the site by the fact its my way of asking a question. I am very understanding and curious about this faithful site and will not make that mistake again ...but not on your count. To be very honest i didnt know this is the first time i have posted into a forum of any kind ... so assume all you want Mr.Flagg

Randall Flagg
01-23-2012, 03:18 PM
If you have been here since 2007 then it was as a guest or another screen name.

Responding
hmmm? to a 6+ month old post doesn't help or add to the site. That's why we have "Off Topic" areas.
If this is your first posting in a forum then consider this a kind and helpful indoctrination. Most forums would simply ban you.

Okay, I'm pretty new here and I can not, for the life of me, figure out how to put something as my signature. I hope this type of question would go here, I apologize if it's in the wrong thread but help, please?

Also, I've tried posting a reply a few days ago in two different threads with a picture attached to both and neither one has posted yet. So, I was wondering if I just needed to wait for it to be approved or if I needed to be around here posting longer for my pictures to post as quickly as the other members. For example, in the Movie Picture Game thread is where I tried posting one of my pictures and it hasn't been posted yet but the other members' posts go up almost immediately. Just wondering!

Sorry, I must have read this incorrectly. I thought that the posts could be in the "post count" sections, any of them. Am I just being a bit thick?

Anyway, I'll do my best to get myself sorted as a proper member of the site- it's nice to see a forum that looks active- I'm fed up of registering (or thinking about registering) on forums of all kinds, to find that the last post on the website was made in 2007 and it was active for three weeks in August, or something...

Thanks!

And out of curiosity, does this forum have a rule on bumping old posts? I couldn't see anything in the FAQs, and I always ask on forums because I've got myself into trouble before- I've started new threads on forums where they don't accept duplicates, no matter how old the original thread, and I've bumped old posts on forums where that's strictly not allowed, and they encourage new threads.

Bumping old threads is fine. Personally I find it enlightening to read threads that I may have missed.
Duplicate threads are also fine, the moderators here will merge the thread if necessary.

Enjoy your time here and post often!

Just making sure I'm not gonna get myself into trouble!

Welcome! :D

Please feel free to bump whatever threads you like. It's great to bring old discussions back to life. If a new thread happens to be created that's a duplicate, we'll just merge it into the appropriate thread. So if you see it already exists, it's best to post there. But no worries if you miss it.

bumping old posts is crucial for the well-being of the site. I am not kidding. We here have known each other as long as dinosaurs, and have talked about all kind of things... or used to, ages ago. We left a lot of unfinished business, half-developed discussions, that we haven't come back to because of lazyness, or fear of repeating ourselves, or some such shit. Any effort that could help bringing back those treasuries of thought (bears are only half-kidding now) would be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone,

Just found the site and see that newbies are limited to this area. My original post is self explanatory of my intent. I have enjoyed King books for years and was thankful to find this site. .

"I found this site because I was trying to research the possibility of selling what I believe is a limited trade edition of The Dar Tower: The Gunslinger. It is a red or dark umber cloth hardcover with "King" at the top and "Grant" at the bottom. I have kept it in a sealed bag all the time I have owned it. It has two dust covers also kept in the protective cover. It has five color illustrated pages inside it. Unfortunately it is not signed as Steven King does not make it to Idaho much that I know of. Any help with finding out what this book would be potentially worth would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks. JimB"

Again any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am hoping this will be one of my 5 posts. Just found this site today as I am just about to finish Wizard and Glass. Hoping to start the next one tomorrow. Damn do I ever love this series. And I am so glad that I will have it all read by the time the movie/tv series starts.

That tab at the top of the screen that says "You have 44 unread posts".. ya, I want to be able to click on that damnit. It is nearly 2:00 in the afternoon and I have spent the better part of my day (at work) reading these posts. I think I read most/ all of them, but there are now 44 that I havent. Might have to work some overtime today in order to make sure I have read them all. This forum is great. I am glad I found it as I have many questions about series that managed to get answered after reading through here for about an hour. I just have to stay clear of the discussions on the last 4 books as I just finished Wizard and dont want to know much more about the next books than I already do. Damn, 46 unread posts now.

"It's his eyes, Roland thought. They were wide and terrible, the eyes of a dragon in human form" - Roland seeing the Crimson King for the first time.

"When the King comes and the Tower falls, sai, all such pretty things as yours will be broken. Then there will be darkness and nothing but the howl of Discordia and the cries of the can toi" - From Song of Susannah

Just wanted to say I really enjoy the quotes. Part of it is because I am an audiobook reader and therefore have to guess at correct spelling. But most of it is because some lines are just plain poetic. :)

Use our Private Message system
View our member galleries
Enjoy our Arcade
Play in our Casino
Put your pin on our member map
Help us update our various wiki's

Use the chat system

Once you do have five posts you will be automatically transferred to regular member status and will receive all of the same benefits a regular member receives. :D

Oh, and welcome to thedarktower.org! :)

Hi despite being on the board for a couple of months, I just checked out this section of the forum. Just curious about the bullet "Put your pin on our member map" Where is this map, and how do you put a pin in? (or is this a feature no longer available?).

Welcome August! I just had the Wizard & Glass Artist Edition out today looking at autographs and checking to make sure I had them all Brodart'ed up since I just got a new box of covers in. No remarques, but always nice to carefully look through when gloved up.

Why TWTTK? For that possibility of future DT novels, or is that story a particular favorite or both?

Hi,
Thanks very much for the welcome. Yes, exactly. I am looking for TWTTK in the event that a new story is published. I've heard some discussion on Jericho Hill and am hoping that story gets written.

I started purchasing the first editions of the series from Grant Books when Drawing of the Three was released. But I didn't start purchasing the artist editions until after Wizard and Glass. I now have all artist editions with the exception of Gunslinger and Wizard. I wish I would have known better at the time! Given that Dave McKean signatures are so rare, what do you think is a fair price to expect to pay for one of those editions?

Cheers,

Cheers,

Before DT V there were no separate 'Artists Editions' only the Limited Edition signed by SK and the artist. Copies of the 1st four books that have been signed or remarqued after release are now being collected as 'artist editions', but there is nothing official. There is already a discussion around this here (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?1987-Current-Market-Value-Experts-assess-yours-or-other-s-collectible-King-item/page189). Copies of Trade editions remarqued by Dave Mckean are extremely rare and go for prices around the $500 - $600 mark.

Oh and welcome by the way!

I started purchasing the first editions of the series from Grant Books when Drawing of the Three was released.

That's exactly when I started my DT collection as well, though to be fair, it was my mother that somehow tracked down Grant Books, though she was just a casual reader and we were in the middle of rural Iowa. Have no idea how she would have found out about the edition. It was my first 'collectible' edition, and unfortunately had to suffer through the many moves of a college student/young adult so it got a bit more worn than I would have liked. I DID upgrade it about a year or two back to the Phil Hale signed version when those became available. I might have to buy another copy or two before that edition finally sells out.

Hi all. New here so I'm needing some direction in where to post a question regarding a 1st/1st of The Gunslinger that I just purchased in regards to value with writing in it. This was discovered post-purchase and the seller is willing to refund me completely. I'm just curious what the effect to the value would be. It's not a S/L edition; just plain Jane 1st/1st in pretty good shape. Thanks!

Hi and welcome here, Brian! Your best bet would be to post in Calvin's Corner, the Current Market Value thread.

Trying to find out how to post photos?

You actually almost had it. What I did to make it work was right click on the image and then clicked "Copy Image Location". I then clicked the image icon http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/images/editor/insertimage.png and pasted the URL.

Hosting sites often have varying URL formats. The link you used was - http://imgur.com/cNlxEet - the link I used by selecting the actual image was - http://i.imgur.com/cNlxEet.jpg

*

BTW if you would like to post an image that is stored on your computer you can upload it to the site server. I like this option since the photo will always be available. Imger/Photobucket/etc. links aren't alway reliable.

From the menu at the top of the page click Gallery. From the upper right of the menu on top of the new page click Upload Photos. Click the Browse button. Navigate to the photo on your hard drive and select it. Click Open. Wait for the photo up upload. When it's complete you will be taken back to your gallery.

You have three picture options. You can post the thumbnail, the medium sized image below the thumbnail, or you can click on the medium sized image and another window will open with a full sized image. Right click the image you want. Select Copy Image Location, then click the http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/images/editor/insertimage.png button in the thread you want and paste the image location in the box. Click OK.

I was looking around here before registering, and found a conversation from 2009 with a picture of one of the books covers I was wondering about.

The thread is New Pride and Joy. The posting was by HUTCH on 8/24/09

And the book cove picture posted there was The Tommyknockers with silver lettering and a blue light shining from under the door.

I'm very interested to talk to anyone who has info about these cover variations. I have a copy of the one with red lettering and blue light. I'm not a collector, really. But a long time fan of SK.

Welcome to the site!

We have a catalog (Wiki) with all of the first editions listed. Here is the entry for The Tommyknockers:Stephen+King+First+Editions:Tommykno ckers+The+Trade+HC (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showwiki.php?title=Stephen+King+First+Editions:Tom myknockers+The+-+Trade+HC)

Click the "Discussion" tab for the discussion about this very subject. It is believed to be either a printing error or fading. Hutch is the only member I know of to have found one.

Thanks for this! Of course I got involved in looking around as I checked out the link you provided. I'm going to enjoy this site, I can tell.

The copy I have with red lettering and the blue light has not ever (as far as I can recall) been left out in the sun. I have an idea of getting a regular copy of Tommyknockers off eBay and leave the dust jacket out in the sun, as an experiment.

As always, Brian is correct. The catalog is your friend. As I recall there were two states of the DJ for this edition. One with "Gold" lettering in the title and one with "Red". Does that help?

FWIW, The "Gold" DJ is the toughest to find in good condition. The lettering has a tendency to "rub off" a bit as I recall.

Some of the forums don't count toward the total or they will be moderated first.

One more post, perhaps in this thread, :orely: and you're in there brother.
