Hi. I've posted five times in five different forums, but I still don't have full access (nor do I see my posts posted in any of the forums!! Am I doing something wrong? I posted in three Baronies forums and then two in general discussion. Forget what topics.

Thanks!

Posts in some forums post immediately, in some forums the posts are moderated and in some forums the posts don't count toward the first five.

When RF sees this he will probably clear you through to being a full member. The idea is to avoid bots and spam, and you are obviously a real person who isn't spamming the threads.

Or you can post in this thread three more times. I'm fairly sure that it counts the posts immediately here.

Oh, so apparently I had no posts at all. That doesn't sound right, but it has been a while since I was here. Maybe it'll all come back to life after 5 posts.

Hi Dave

There are several account restrictions for members with less than 5 posts.

Keep in mind that only posts made in 'on topic' threads count towards the total.

Feel free to shoot me a PM if you have any further questions.

Right :) I can't even see my profile at the moment. I better find something to comment on. Funny, I have hundreds of posts on the Cemetery Dance forums, and thousands on Timezone, but I seem to always just look at threads here without responding.

Have to say, this makes joining the community very difficult when a post takes close to or even more than a day to even get recognized and marked "not spam". I love the Dark Tower series and would love to join in the conversations, but the security makes it unappealing to keep coming back. I guess you have to do what you have to do to stop the spammers, I just know on the multitude of other forums I am part of, this is never an issue.

You should have no troubles after you make five posts. You only have one more to go. A bit of inconvenience when you first start is better than the flood of spammers we've had in the past. It does deter that issue.

It's probably because of the spam filter that limits your activities before you have made 5 posts. Now that you have made 7, you should be good to go.

Rare King book question.I don't know if I am doing this right or not. I never used a forum before. I had a question though about a Stephen King book I bought called Revival. The version I bought has a silver cover instead of the regular blueish one. It still has the hologram like look but has no color to it. I want to know if it is rare and how much it might be worth. I think it might be a misprint. Does anybody know?

Newguy13, welcome to the site. The DJ you're describing sounds like one that was mentioned on here some time back. It's likely a printing error. As to what it's worth, for something like this it's hard to say because there's no sales history to go by. So it would be whatever someone is willing to pay for it. Take a look at this post (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?18818-What-is-your-favorite-cover-for-Stephen-King-s-Revival&p=891964&viewfull=1#post891964). I'm guessing the copy you have looks like that. If you decide to sell it, I may be interested.

Well, I can understand that they don't want spammers. The only issue is that someone dropping in has to post basically fluff.
You don't have to post fluff. There are many sections you can post in. It shouldn't be tough to post 5 cogent things on a Dark Tower/Stephen King message board.

Randall Flagg
09-24-2016, 01:08 PM
It's interesting how even the search bar blocks new members without 5 total posts.
I checked and that is blocked. I'll look into it and see if that can be changed. I see no reason why a newly registered member shouldn't be able to search the forum.

Greetings, I have been a member of the SKMB for years and have always been meaning to join up here. Big fan of anything SK related, been reading his works since I was 12 when handed a paperback of "Pet Semitary" that I still own to this day. Huge fan of the DT series, but quite skeptical to say the least for the upcoming movies and TV series. Look forward to adding my 2 cents around here.

Are you joking?

We shouldn't be welcoming new people to the site. We should be locking the doors and not allowing anybody else in. In fact, there are some posters who are posting illegally and I think they should be sent to other message boards. Then we should build a massive firewall to keep everybody out.

This is sarcasm in light of current events.

Hail fans of Sai King and the Gunslinger's Journey. I found this site purely by accident while looking up one of the obscure references from this wonderful series (Aren't they all pretty much obscure lol), and instantly felt as if I'd found my own door to mid-world and walked through it. My own drawing was a lot less terrifying than Jake's and a lot more ordinary than Eddie or Susannah/Odetta/Detta's, but I am here nonetheless.
this is now one of my favourite of all Mr King's tales (or a close secod to the Stand depending on my mood at the time) and I'm really glad to have found you guys so at last I can finally stop boring my wife to tears with my incessant ramblings about the Tower, Blaine the Mono and how Randall Flagg (my Wife likes the Stand but doesn't read - she saw the miniseries) is Marten/ Walter O'Dim and an agent of the Crimson King. along with the many other connections of King-World, and can now hold palaver with like minded folks on the old interweb (also known as the World Wide Wait!), even though the internet would blow Roland's mind (and quite possibly Jake, Susannah and even Eddie's right along with him).
I look forward to conversing with you all (in High speech or Low speech it matters not) and bid you fond farewell.

I just received a version of The Gunslinger that refers to the book as #2 in the series. Other than that it looks like the original version. Is this a misprint? I would attach a picture of it if I could.

The inside of the book says it was published by Plume in 1988 and it is a Hardcover.

I have the 1988 Plume hardcover. I don't see where it states it is #2 in the series. Where is that stated? It does state that "THE GUNSLINGER is the first novel in an epic series" on the rear cover.

BTW once you have posted five times, you should be able to post pictures.

It's hard to tell from the picture but to me it looks like the "BOOK 2" was added after the fact. Looks like some discoloration of the black around it. Better resolution pic would help.

That's a real puzzle. :orely:

All of these first Plume printings are paperbacks. The hardback versions are publishers taking the paperback page block and binding them as hardcovers. This usually happens for library editions to make them more durable.

Turtlebound and Perma-Bound are the two main players for that market. This isn't either of those.

Maybe someone will come along with the answer.

It looks as if the original owner might have had it rebound - hence the Book 2 mistake - and they pasted the PB cover to the front board??

By the way, is there any post where I can talk about the film? I've just watched it and I'd like to read some opinions about it.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I can't find answers on the wiki or via search...

Could someone explain reputation points? I assume more is good, but do you start with a certain amount? Can I give them to others if they are "reputable"?

Any info is appreciated! (Or a link to something obvious I may have missed that explains them...)

Randall Flagg
12-12-2017, 06:00 AM
Reputation points are somewhat self explanatory. If someone makes a post that you find to be extraordinary (strictly subjective on your part) you can give them positive reputation points. All new members start with a very low reputation count. The system is set up so that you must give reputation to others before you can give additional reputation to someone you have recently given rep too.
From another post:

http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/images/Take5_fluid/misc/quote_icon.png Originally Posted by bdwyer19 http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/images/Take5_fluid/buttons/viewpost-right.png (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?p=993129#post993129)
What are the rules regarding positive/negative feedback? I keep on getting the message that I'm not spreading it around enough. How many times or to how many people does it need to be spread to before I can just give someone a little positive rep on the side?
The numbers can be changed, but the current settings are:

Daily Reputation Clicks Limit
How many reputation clicks can a user give over each 24 hour period? Administrators are exempt from this limit: 10

Reputation User Spread
How many different users must you give reputation to before you can hit the same person again? Administrators are exempt from this limit: 20

stroppygoblin
12-13-2017, 03:49 AM
I would also add, that the giving of feedback should not be done lightly - ESPECIALLY negative feedback. Think of it like eBay feedback - members who have a good level of reputation have it for a reason, usually because they have helped others or posted information that is highly regarded (or highly amusing!). There is nothing to stop you posting positive or negative feedback anonymously (unfortunately IMHO) but unless you have a very good reason it will be considered 'Bad Form'.

I joined around a month or so ago and I’m still amazed. Welcome to an awesome community, I hope you have as much fun as I’ve been these last few weeks.

I'm always happy to see new members become active, regular members. This place is addictive, man!

It certainly helps when the members are friendly like you’ve been from day one.

It's amazing. I generally hate people, yet I love talking to people on here. I baffles my mind!

Me in every day life: Oh no, a person. [grumbles] :arg:
Me on the website: Oh cool! A new member! :cyclops:

Hello! Let me say I'm amazed and very happy to find such an active forum, in this day and age where forums seem to be dying in favor of Facebook and other media. Looking forward to exploring the forums!

Welcome! I hope you enjoy it even more as you start to really dig into the threads and discussions. :)

Thank you!! :)

Welcome to all the members. Don't be afraid to post. If you don't know something, just ask. People here are very helpful. I know I was nervous when I first started posting. And don't think you have nothing to offer. I thought that in the beginning but that changed. Just post and ask questions, and if you have books, by all means start a thread in Calvins corner so we can see them.

The reason I've hung around this place for so long is because everyone has always been so welcoming. It's really a great community.

Due to serious problems with spammers, thedarktower.org created a new member group that is screened for spam prior to becoming an official member.

Until you have five posts, all posts will be screened for spam, and you will not be able to edit your signature, send private messages (PMs), or play in the arcade (see full list below). Also, since all posts will be screened, some posts containing certain key words the screening system recognizes as spam, may be listed to be moderated, and may not show up right when you post.

Use our Private Message system
View our member galleries
Enjoy our Arcade
Play in our Casino
Put your pin on our member map
Help us update our various wiki's
Bid on our Auctions
Use the chat system

Once you do have five posts you will be automatically transferred to regular member status and will receive all of the same benefits a regular member receives. :D

Oh, and welcome to thedarktower.org! :)

- Copy that, thankee.

I'm old enough to remember when I had to write code just to produce a printout from a database, or a script just to do simple repetitive tasks.

Actually, I'm old enough to remember when the idea of a computer made me think of NASA or IBM since personal computers didn't exist.

Hell, electronic calculators were amazing. :wtf:

My dad was a programmer at UVM and the computer room was massive and kept at about 50 degrees. I remember going to his office one day after school and the programmers were all making jokes about C. It had just hit and they were all excited about it. The wanted to go see what "C" could do. that went on for a few days... lol

The prices change constantly. There is a thread to ask about prices for specific books or collectibles.
