I hope to keep up with it better in 2009 than 2008. Around the time Ella was born I read about a dozen books on babies and parenting that I never put on my list and they were all library books so I can't just go to the shelf and look it up. After that I pretty much abandoned my list. 2009 I intend to be more vigilant and write this stuff down.

My 2008 list was not very accurate, since I tried to list all the books for the last year at once. I can only remember about 6 or 7 books back with any accuracy. So I am looking forward to keeping up with a list as I go. Ive never done that.

I hope my 2009 book list looks better than 2008,,,,
So I hope for mine. I mean, I hope my new one won't include 108 items as the old one did, which means I will have at least something like the so-called real life.

That is an amazing number Jean. I don't know how you find the time. You must read like 10,000 words a minute, or read 25 hours a day

How do you guys do it! We're only...23 days into the year and most of you are around 8 books deep? I've only finished a book. That's kind a slow. But I thought 3 by now would be pretty normal. I guess, being a student and having a job sort of takes up my time. But you guys haul ass.

I always have a book since I ride the bus a lot. I read it to and from work, so 45 min each way an maybe a little each night if I am not too tired...or if it's really getting interesting! And on the weekends. Really, I shouldn't be reading because I have a lot of homework and should try to get in shape, but because I'm on the bus and have a lot I want to read...there you go :)

Very much so. Have dealt with it most of my life. I credit it with my lifelong love of reading.

I find it hard to read at night if I am dozing off because I am so tired. How do you keep yourself awake? or is it like Ralph...you can fall asleep until a certain time and then you're back up...and reading :) ?

I generally just read very quickly. Plus, most days I'm at home with my youngest son - who only has nursery in the mornings - and work in the evening, so I get a lot of reading done in the day. I don't watch tv much either, so that gives me more book time too :)

Unfortunately, I don't have to do anything to keep myself awake, it happens all on its own. I actually suffer from both the "can't fall asleep" form of insomnia and the "early waking" form suffered by Ralph Roberts.

Well you guys have me intrigued. What's the basic premise of the book. I've never heard of it before.

Fevre Dream is a vampire novel written by George R. R. Martin and published in 1982. It is set on the antebellum Mississippi River beginning in 1857, and has been described by some as "Bram Stoker meets Mark Twain." The book was first published in the US by Poseidon Press in 1982. It was notably reprinted by Orion Books in 2001 as volume 13 of their Fantasy Masterworks series[1].

I liked it. I've heard mixed reviews and I can't see why. It wasn't cheesy at all, very well written and the oral biography style of the book was great.

The Yiddish Policeman’s Union – Michael Chabon or The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy – Douglas Adams (haven’t decided which one I want to read first yet)

Both are very good. HHGTTG is among my favorite books ever. Once you read it, you will likely want to read the other four as well, so perhaps you'd want to start with the Chabon and get it out of the way and then settle into the whole Adams series. Or you can just throw yourself into the Guide and get back to Chabon some other time.

Jean, did you like Coraline?
Yes - I've already talked about it with Irish Dawn, afraid I've disappointed her... (see from here down (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?t=113&page=215).)

You could never disappoint me, bear.

lamb: the gospel according to biff, christ's childhood pal - christopher moore (audio)

I absolutely LOVE Christopher Moore, and Lamb is my favorite of his novels. Although Island of the Sequined Love Nun and The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove are close runner-ups. I haven't been able to find a copy of Practical Demonkeeping. My library system doesn't carry it. :(

Lady, that is such a sweet offer, but thanks to this discussion, I went and actually purchased my own copy from Amazon (it was under textbooks... ). Can't wait until I get it! :excited:

I also noticed Moore released a new book this year, Fool. I'm going to check the library system first, but if they don't have it, I'll have to get that one too! He rocks my world, too!

The Yiddish Policeman’s Union – Michael Chabon

I liked this a lot. I read it via audio, which was read by Peter Riegert (who played Boone in Animal House among other things). He did a great job with it and the book itself is very interesting. I've yet to read anything else by Chabon but I suspect I might like it from the way this one read.

Depends on whether or not they make another one like they originally intended. If it is the end of Jack Sawyer, then feel pissed.

Disappointed perhaps because I'd gladly read more, but not pissed for me if it is the end. I can live with the end they gave Jack in Black House. If that's the last I see of him, it's a good memory.

Also, I picked up a new book today so updating my updated list...

Honestly, since the Dark Tower is over, I'm hoping there will be another Jack Sawyer story without the tie ins. I know I'm a minority in this opinion but I really felt that King had no clue whether or not Jack was going to be part of the remaining books in the series and I think he should have just left it alone. It wasn't a bad book, but I enjoyed the first one better and I was disappointed that Jack wasn't in DT 7. The ending of Black House suggested there was more to the story and likely it would take place in the DT world. Either way, it felt incomplete and I wasn't very satisfied overall.
