UPDATE FOR BOOKMARC'S IN BANGOR

I was able to get up there today and talk to Ginger. Turns out there are two collections that may be coming in. One is 10-12 books from a collector and should be there soonish. The other is 10-15 titles from a collector/investor and there is still some dispute over pricing. That one may be a little longer.

She asks that people just check the website at http://www.bookmarcs.com for new updates.
Once the books arrive, she has decided to contact the 10 people who have already left their names and numbers, in the order that they called. The first person will be given the chance to take up to 2 titles. She will then move on to the next name. She feels this is the best way to spread them around and to limit the possibility of one person taking them all just to resell. After that the remaining will be listed on the site (i guess).

At this time they do have a couple of signed books that she showed me. One is Different Seasons that was signed in '84 for $300. The other is a Pet Semetary (first state jacket, i checked for the '82 error) that was inscribed to "Joe" in '97. That one is $350.

The other very cool item was a copy of The Chronicles of Harris Burdick

http://stephenking.com/library/anthology/chronicles_of_harris_burdick_the.html

that was signed by both Stephen and Tabitha. There were only 12 copies of this signed by both for the benefit of the Bangor Library. She still has two copies. They are kinda pricey at $500, but the proceeds still go to the library and they were very nice to see and hold!

Hope this helps to clear things up a little. Ginger is still kinda embarresed (and ticked) that her boss posted the info so soon but thinks it will be worth the wait.

Can someone point me to the official Harris burdick story? Is this book part of a set that King signed for charity?

Roseannebarr

not sure I understand your question. CWalker stated above and I heard the same story, The library was able to get 12 books signed by SK and Tabitha King. The House on Maple Street is a reprint of a story in another book, I believe Nightmares and Dreamscapes. Chronicles of Harris Burdick reprinted the story, thousands of copies. The library was able to get 12 copies signed by SK and TK. I bought a copy from Bookmarks. the money is going to the library. The Chronicles of Harris Burdick signed by SK is one of my favorite, only 12 copies! Unless he signed more, but with Tabitha too! The fact that they are not able to sell all 12 copies makes me believe it is a little overpriced. But a call to the bookstore would confirm that the $ is going to the library. See listing below from SK website about the original book....

The Chronicles of Harris Burdick
The Chronicles of Harris Burdick

Synopsis:

This anthology containsThe House on Maple Street by Stephen King (formerly published in Nightmares and Dreamscapes) as well as Archie Smith, Boy Wonderby Tabitha King.

---

An inspired collection of short stories by an all-star cast of best-selling storytellers based on the thought-provoking illustrations in Chris Van Allsburg’s The Mysteries of Harris Burdick.

For more than twenty-five years, the illustrations in the extraordinary Mysteries of Harris Burdick by Chris Van Allsburg have intrigued and entertained readers of all ages. Thousands of children have been inspired to weave their own stories to go with these enigmatic pictures. Now we’ve asked some of our very best storytellers to spin the tales. Enter The Chronicles of Harris Burdick to gather this incredible compendium of stories: mysterious, funny, creepy, poignant, these are tales you won’t soon forget.

This inspired collection of short stories features many remarkable, best-selling authors in the worlds of both adult and children's literature: Sherman Alexie, M.T. Anderson, Kate DiCamillo, Cory Doctorow, Jules Feiffer, Stephen King, Tabitha King, Lois Lowry, Gregory Maguire, Walter Dean Myers, Linda Sue Park, Louis Sachar, Jon Scieszka, Lemony Snicket, and Chris Van Allsburg himself.

Van Allsburg's Harris Burdick illustrations have evoked such wonderment and imagination since Harris Burdick's original publication in 1984; many have speculated or have woven their own stories to go with his images. More than ever, the illustrations send off their eerie call for text and continue to compel and pick at the reader's brain for a backstory—a threaded tale behind the image. In this book, we've collected some of the best storytellers to spin them.

Can someone point me to the official Harris burdick story? Is this book part of a set that King signed for charity?

The book had nothing to do with a charity. It was more about the photographs in the book! Schools around the country would show the photos to students who then had to write a story about the photos, Someone got the idea to have 14 famous authors do the same, although I suspect that having sk in the book was a big draw and they repurposed one of his stories for the series. Then someone got sk and tk to sign after the fact. I often thought about getting other authors to sign, but I never wanted to risk damaging my copy

@Roseannebarr

I should have guessed that you would have one of these copies!!!
You are right, they are both beautiful books and a little overpriced. If they weren't being sold to support the library, they would have had a tough time selling many at $500. As it is though, they are an excellent addition to most any collectors signed pieces.

My biggest suprise though was that after leaving the store my wife said she wished she had the money right then and there. She would have bought it in an instant!!

500$ The Chronicles of Harris Burdick Signed by both Stephen and tabitha.
If that is to high , what would be a fair price?

Cwalker
09-26-2015, 03:02 PM
I don't have an answer as to a "fair" price, but one way people could look at it is that they are donating $500 to a fantastic public library and getting a free book! Maybe someone could even tell us if buying the book would be tax deductible for US citizens? (probably not but worth a try).

I also got the feeling from Ginger that the price is set in stone at this time.

If you are donating to a non-profit then the gift would be deductible minus the price of the book. So about $470 of it is deductible.

Gibson Les Paul Traditional in cherryburst. It's a beauty and I'm sleeping with it tonight. My wife says that's OK and all I have to look forward to for the unforeseeable future.

I went to the guitar shop to buy a new speaker cable, walked out with a Les Paul. Oops!

Nope - seems high, even it is in good condition. Are we starting to see the price rise of the next set of early books? (after the Doubledays) a F/F Dead Zone is fetching $100 now...

I see prices of the older books rising also. It really shows when you try to find a F/F copy of an older book. It seems like there are scores of VG copies for great prices, but if you want a F/F copy you are paying way higher. Last year I was looking for a fine copy of Dead Zone and had a lot of trouble finding one for under $100 or even $200. I did find one eventually, but it was still about $60.

FOR SALE!
Freshly signed Finders Keepers!
$400

As some of you know, I live quite near Bridgton Books, Bridgton Maine. I stop in when I can. Today I needed an anniversary card for my wife. I got two cards and a new-from-the-shelf copy of FK signed yesterday, 10/13/15 when King stopped in to order a new book. The clerk, Justin, said it was the only thing he signed.

Includes the receipt, (ignore the two card charges!), a lite green colored bookmark, and free shipping in the US.
I will not be Ebaying this. I want it to go to a denizen of the Tower.
Thanks!

EDIT: there is a "autographed copy" sticker on the front that I will not try to remove, but have nevere had troubles with before.

They told me when I first chatted with them that King stops in there A LOT. If I were you I would be stopping in there a lot. HAHA

FYI,

I'm strongly thinking of re-defined rules for selling in CC.
It's one thing to say "make offer", but using the site for winner take all highest bidder before the end of day only benefits the seller, not a member-buyer (or the site itself).
Zero risk for the person who posts.

The ONLY reason I did it that way was because I needed to pay for my storage fee for the month. If I don't pay it the space goes up for auction and along with it ALL my books and everything else I own.

No one who responded seemed taken advantage of and in fact the high bidder got it for a lot less than I was asking and was very happy and understanding of my situation.

It's basically a 'sealed' bid auction with a time limit. No one knows what the other bids are and the temptation is to high bid in order to win. No negotiations. Good for the seller, not so good for the buyer.

I can understand the OP's need to sell quickly in this instance however, RF is also right in ensuring this doesn't become common practice.

That's my feeling on the matter.
I didn't bid on it because of the nature of the "auction".

As a person who both buys and sells on this site, I advocate that the only rule be Caveat Emptor.

I did not bid on the auction being discussed....but almost did.

First things first.
This is the Collectible Classifieds thread.
That means it is for selling items.
This is not the Giveaway thread, so people posting as though they are getting a free item are likely to be disappointed.
Time stamps mean nothing if a person is selling to the highest bidder (unless seller has specifically stated a time limit, or first come first served policy).

Enjoy the thread while it lasts.
Next year, sellers will have to pay a commission (much less than Ebay, Paypal) or be a "Premium Seller" to post an ad.
Posts will have to be pre-approved and paid for.

Not sure what I did wrong? I was just saying I sent a PM the same minute he posted. He said nothing about 'highest bidder.' Anyway, I was just typing a message to say the next person in line can have it, as I really don't want to 'fight' over it. Not a big deal.

You didn't do anything "wrong". The teaser by Tito_Villa was the problem. Perhaps he will chime in and offer dozens for free. If so, wonderful. If not, then remember that this thread is for selling items-not giveaways.

Is the 'King Books/Items Wanted' thread going to be changed as well? For example, I recently posted that I wanted a book, stated a price, the seller PM'd me and we went forward with a transaction, and then left feedback for each other. Are sales outside of the 'Collectible Classifieds' thread going to be discouraged once the commission policy is instituted (like how they are on ebay)?

**edit: My wife just told me that I sound like a smartass in this reply, but I didn't mean it that way at all. I am just curious about the future of the 'King Books/Items Wanted' thread because I really like it. I can understand the potential need for site fees.

First off, I for one am behind you 100%, RF on charging some sort of fee for selling here. My guess is that it would significantly reduce the "site fee's" burden required to keep the site afloat, so to speak.

Just thinking out loud, but wouldn't it be much easier to charge a a nominal "flat fee" to be registered as a seller here? I mean rather than dealing with pre-approvals for every sale item/post/ad. I would think that would virtually eliminate any potential "timing/delay" issues attached to pre-approvals and greatly reduce your efforts in this regard, no? I think a fee for the ability to sell here is more than fair. IDK what your goals are, whether to make some money or just break even on the site fees, but that's not my business and you are more than entitled based on the amount of time and effort you contribute on all our behalf.

For that matter, I would not be opposed to a flat fee to become a "Certified/Registered Buyer" here as well. Seems like it would be a benefit for the sellers to some degree. I'd be happy to pay a nominal annual fee to be registered as a buyer here. I regularly contribute through a donation toward the "site fees" already so it would seem to be a moot point in my case, but the site offers buyers and sellers a rather unique forum for conducting business/transactions and is much cheaper (it's been totally free to this point) than paying eBay/ABE/VFB, etc to sell/buy items. The only concern I can foresee would be any possible issues cropping up with regard to a perceived "service" once a selling fee is introduced. In my case, I don't see that as an issue in any way, but I can imagine some folks thinking that since they are paying to register that now the site should offer some sort of "protection" and/or enforced policies/rules. I would think that you would want to eliminate any misconceptions in that regard from the beginning. Introduce it as simply a "courtesy donation" for a "courtesy privilege" and to weed out the riff-raff. LOL LOL

Of course, this is just my own musings and I don't pretend to suggest that I have any real say in what you ultimately decide to implement. I think we all know how fair and equitable you have always been in the past and can fully trust you to continue that in the future. I only offer my own two cents, FWIW in the hopes that I may be helpful in some small way. Again, FWIW I'm behind you 100%, El Jefe!!!

Wouldn't charge a fee here discourage a large quantity of post/auctions? I don't quite like the idea and I don't remember I ever experienced it in other forums. I think some of the old members and usual sellers will probably keep on selling, but new members (or not-so-new but that don't post much) will be discouraged by the idea and I don't see it will benefit the site.

If money is needed to keep the website that's perfect, but in that case I'd preffer a fixed thread in the top or even automate emails (one per month, maybe?) to remind members of the importance of donations to keep the forum alive.

I understand this is not the place to talk about this matter so I can move the message to the correct thread (I don't know which) if needed.

I'd take $300 shipped in the US from a forum member, international shipping would have to be negotiated, as the weight of these things approaches 70 pounds.... I'm also open to trades.

31 of the 37 are here, only missing Insomnia, The Dark Half, Nightmares and Dreamscapes, Eyes of the Dragon, On Writing and From a Buick 8

Damn, I'm pretty sure someone here posted about completing a set of these. I forget the thread, perhaps "King Books/Items Wanted"? Shoot, I wish my memory were better!!! LOL Good Luck!!!

This is the stuff that really drives me crazy.
In the last few weeks I've had members contact me regarding transactions/purchases that have been slow in being delivered or paid for.
The seller (member) has more than once used the excuse that the item was retuned due to an address problem; thus returned and on the next attempt finally arrives, but weeks later than it should be.
The member owes thousands to someone here.

If all of the transactions were via Ebay, the buyer would have been protected.
I can't offer that protection here.
One person can screw it up for everyone.
Sad.

I am considering closing this thread until the issues are cleared up, but it punishes all for the action of one.

When this happened to me, I was seriously annoyed by the month-long wait. I considered adding negative feedback, but was willing to forget and move on. Now, hearing that the same excuse was used in another purchase, that really bothers me. Inexcusable!

I wouldn't shut down the thread based on one person's shoddy actions, but would suggest temporarily banning them from selling anything for awhile. Granted, that member is also selling through other methods right now, so probably won't even feel bothered by the ban. But it at least sends a message.

I am of the opinion that you should not be solicited to intervene in the commerce that takes place on this site.....you spend enough time updating and maintaining the site....you don't need to spend time being a cop.

Caveat emptor folks.

I have to admit I agree with this statement. RF already provides the forum for these transactions. It should be up to the members to police themselves. RF retains the right to step in only if he wishes to do so. He does plenty on our behalf as it is.

Yeah i think the comments above provide a solution that doesn't impact on RF (or hopefully minimises the impact on his time). Let the members here police ouselves. Buyers should be naming and shaming bad sellers, and we have a thread for that no?

I would want to know if someone had a history of delayed sales/excuses etc, then i can make my own decison if I deal with them. I don't expect this site to offer protection for failed purchases. If I want that, I use eBay. I want the opportunity to buy from people I know and trust. Building trust is the key here, and bad sales to other people has a direct impact on that....

In my opinion, that's what the negative feedback is for. Unless the seller has a valid reason for not shipping quickly, a negative should be posted. I've never had a problem, though.

I was going to add negative feedback. Instead, that member publicly mentioned a personal sob story, so I decided to just leave it as is. Now I call BS on his so-called personal issues. If he has them, then shame on him for making me think otherwise.

i hate it when you guys refer to a situation like the one stated above and then don't identify the person. Seems to me that if you are miffed enough to mention it in the first place then why not fully disclose the participants and get it out in the open. Then the offending member can come here and offer his/her explanations and resolve the matter one way or the other. By not disclosing who you are talking about gets everyone looking sideways at one another, no? Not to mention that maybe us other members may appreciate the knowledge for consideration in any pending/future transactions.

You're right Bill.

It was Lot Guy. After I bought and paid for a book this past July, I heard several excuses as to why there was no tracking number. Then, after a few weeks went by, I was told about the wrong address. He then said he would correct the problem and 're-ship' the next day, and do it two-day priority mail. Five days later the book is shipped, and it arrives another five days later. He even went so far as to say he would include some goodies from the Maine signing. Of course, there were none.

Well, I can understand your frustration. I'm sure there is a valid reason for the delay. I guess he could have at least communicated a little better. FWIW I have purchased a couple items from him in the past and had no issues. Maybe something has cropped recently in his life. You never know. He has been around a while and this is the first time I have heard of any complaints. I suppose we all experience life changing situations from time to time (I sure know all about that!!! LOL), but honest communication can alleviate a lot of frustration, no doubt.

I hope the guy is okay and that this was just a hiccup of some sort. Sorry you had such a rocky experience, Brian

Edit: I'm generally pretty easy going in these kind of circumstances, so please don't take my thoughts the wrong way. I fully understand and appreciate your concern and agitation. I didn't mean to sound as if I didn't recognize that.

Look, I'm not passing judgement on anyone. I don't know all the fine details, what all went on or is involved in these transactions, do you? All I am alluding to is that the issues would be better resolved through open and honest communication. I'm not trying to say one person is 100% right or wrong. "Lot Guy", to my knowledge, has been a member here for sometime just as, Brian has and there have been no prior issues brought to the light of day I am aware of. So, just hash it out openly or via PM and resolve the issue to everyone's satisfaction. I'm sure, RF doesn't need to be dealing with this, nor do any other members involved. Maybe there is a semi-valid explanation, an impending resolution, or both in the offing. Though like I said I tend to be a little more tolerant of situations such as this as long as there is honest communication. But that is just my feeling and does not necessarily reflect that of others. They have a right to their opinions/positions as well.

I should probably just STFU now!!! LOL LOL LOL I'm still getting used to being a "Peace-Maker", rather than a "Trouble-maker"!!! LOL LOL LOL

However, I do still feel, "Lot Guy" should make an appearance and state his case. Right, wrong or otherwise. Hope it all gets resolved to everyone's satisfaction. Fact of the matter is this: If you do NOT use Paypal personal, you do not have to deal with this issue. Be the master of your own funds. If you agree to a transaction, send funds and the seller doesnt ship within a certain period (i forget what the paypal window is? 30 days? 60 maybe?) Then OPEN A CLAIM and get your money back! Paypal makes it really hard on sellers who are not shipping the merch in a timely fashion that they are taking money for. At the very least it will stop being an avenue of mooching revenue after a couple of black marks are taken by the seller and might save a few buyers on the back end.

I REALLY enjoy the open marketplace on these boards. I salute RF for hosting it and appreciate the work he does and time he selflessly gives to keep the site running. I'd hate to see this feature be ruined or taken away. I'd also be unhappy if it is saddled with a fee structure. I feel like it will kill or at the very least hurt the marketplace.

I would never let a paypal transaction go more than a few weeks without opening a claim. When you send money through paypal it is a contract of sale. The Seller is obligated to ship the item in a timely fashion, and Paypal is obligated to reimburse you the funds if the seller is not doing this. Regardless of whether or not the seller is sick with Cancer and unable to ship promptly due to having chemo OR if they are just plain shady and trying to rook muggs, or Lazy and/or caught up with a long work binge or Real Life. Paypal protects the buyers investment and cash transfer. That is why it is ridiculous to be sending paypal personal to save a seller 4%. If you want to be magnanimous, offer to split the transaction fees as buyer or seller. That way each party are taking a bit of the hit and it is fair.

Caveat Emptor folks. We are doing business not face to face, but through the internet.

Here's to hoping the DarkTower.org marketplaces lives and thrives for years to come  and to hoping all of our transactions are good ones! 8)

If 'personal issues' were preventing a person from completing a transaction, or at least making an appearance/responding to negative feedbacks, then perhaps it's time to take a step back from buying and selling until you are 100% again.

Matt has always come through for me! I have a great proof collection because of him. sounds like he had issues in delivery with others, but I have never heard of him stiffing anyone. He has his contacts and comes through with the rare proofs and sold to many of us. A few backed out on deals with him, but he never posted here, I know because I was second in line to get the proof, when another member found a better deal after committing and backed OUT.

Like Bill, I choose to be peacemaker, it gets me in trouble sometimes, just ask Webster! But I think we need to give people the benefit of the doubt sometimes! I hate that many of the members have quit posting on this site! Posts can definately be mis interperated, just like this one might be. I would hate to lose another prolific king collector, friend and knowledgable king fan for late deliveries!

Brian, I am in no way demeaning your experience, I just never had that problem, I spent over $8,000 with no late delivery or issues, and got some rare items in return

Just remember the real criminal was Stevo. Or humpo. Took the money and ran!

I know who gets the goods, I need the goods, I gotta go where the goods are at! He is my current proof provider, just like David is my s/l dealer!

I experienced the exact same issues with an item I recently purchased from Matt - it took months to arrive. I am not ready to say he did this on purpose but the fact that the same thing has happened to other people, using the same 'tactics', is off-putting to say the least. At least I got what I paid for.

The PayPal thing is true of course. I am not going to use the gift option anymore. I'd rather pay a few % extra and secure my a**. I should have learned this a long time ago because this isn't the first time I've been burned by someone I had exchanged quite a few emails with and whom I considered to be a collector friend. What upsets me most is the fact that he apparently owes someone thousands. There's a UK collector that dropped off the face of the earth who still owes me about $1,000 as well. Not a nice feeling. OMG! Daniel Lenzini....that's a name I never expected to hear again. He bought a partial same-number DT set from me at Betts I think in 2011 for cash and trade (he was going to ship me multiple books in addition to cash)...He made the first couple payments (he had purchased several other items before that without a problem)....but my bad, I had sent him the DT books (yeah, I'm too trusting that way with many customers). Then he completely disappeared. I wrote letters, I called the local police station, I tracked down his business to find it went bankrupt and closed. I was at a loss...I think I tried to reach him every 2 weeks for 4 months....nothing....then it dawned on me that instead of trying to get the books he owed me, I just charged his VISA card in one fell swoop for the amount due me.....luckily, charge went through and I still heard nothing from him...EVER. I got lucky.

Members should take advantage of the Feedback option regarding deals initiated through the site. Even a positive transaction can have a note mentioning an inordinate delay,

I want to make clear that AFAIK, Lot Guy has always paid for items he bought, and always delivered items purchased from him. There are some who have experienced inordinate delays when dealing with him, but he's never ripped anyone off.
Members should take advantage of the Feedback option regarding deals initiated through the site. Even a positive transaction can have a note mentioning an inordinate delay,

He is slow, but he comes through. Eventually I was happy with our transaction.

I had a lot of deals with Matt and I can't complain. Once a book was lost and he replaced it.
I'm sure he'll have his reasons and I'll surely keep on dealing with him.

Also, I'm used to delays. I live a couple thousand miles away from...well, everyone.

Regarding, Matt/Loy Guy. So let me see if I have this straight. Everyone received what they paid for and were paid for what they delivered. However, because of a few recent delayed deliveries and perceived poor communications some folks feel the need to ruin his reputation publicly, despite what may or may not be a serious crisis he may be currently experiencing and/or a few recent delayed delivery of items?

Whoa, tough crowd!!! Glad I had nothing in process when I went into a coma. I'd be chewed up, spit out and wind up begging for King updates on a street corner by now!!! LOL LOL LOL

Seriously, has anyone inquired as to what may be going on or, considered he may be trying to maintain his privacy during a sensitive time for him and/or his family? I mean we try to look after/support one another as much as we can here, right? I think I will contact him and see what is going on and let you folks know what I hear if he is okay with that. I hope nothing too serious is going on with him. From what I can see & hear he has always been a stand up guy to deal with until recent issues may have arisen. That has certainly been my personal experience with the man in the past.

How about a little benefit of the doubt until we know a little more? It appears to me that no one has actually been injured or incurred any significant damages to date, yes? I'll let you know what I hear and if anyone else is in contact with him please share any confirmed info if you are able. Speculation, assumptions and innuendo serve no practical purpose I can see.

No one named him until someone insisted the person they were talking about be named. :) I have seen many more people saying they had no issues and don't see anyone that seems to be out to ruin someone's reputation. In fact, the buyer didn't even bring it up, did they? RF just mentioned a current issue he was dealing with that he shouldn't have to as an example and things went from there unless I missed something.

I've never had any issues with Lotguy, he has always been prompt in communicating and follow through the transaction. I wouldn't hesitate to do business with him again.

As far as the rest of this goes, if you are going to bother posting something on here complaining about another member, without mentioning them, you are doing a disservice to the forum and other members. Otherwise you just seem like the grandfather from the Simpsons yelling at clouds.

Regarding, Matt/Loy Guy. So let me see if I have this straight. Everyone received what they paid for and were paid for what they delivered. However, because of a few recent delayed deliveries and perceived poor communications some folks feel the need to ruin his reputation publicly, . . .

It appears to me that no one has actually been injured or incurred any significant damages to date, yes?

I have no dog in this fight and no knowledge of Lot Guy's actions, but as an objective observer of this thread, I think perhaps some of the more serious concern originated when RF said:

This is the stuff that really drives me crazy.
In the last few weeks I've had members contact me regarding transactions/purchases that have been slow in being delivered or paid for.
The seller (member) has more than once used the excuse that the item was retuned due to an address problem; thus returned and on the next attempt finally arrives, but weeks later than it should be.
The member owes thousands to someone here.

So since RF is in charge of matters here and has intimate knowledge of the goings-on around here, I -- and I can only assume some others -- took that as gospel that thousands of dollars were owed and overdue, which is indeed an injury of significant damages. But then in a post a day or two later RF says "There are some who have experienced inordinate delays when dealing with him, but he's never ripped anyone off", so perhaps that is not the case, after all...I don't know. Perhaps RF was talking about another seller in that earlier post...? But if some folks were showing concern in this thread, I think it's understandable, given the information we'd read.

I think the best thing to take away from all this is, again, PayPal Gift is just about as much of a gamble as sending cash through the mail, while standard PayPal ameliorates most of that risk. Using (standard) PayPal Goods & Services doesn't necessarily express a distrust about a seller; it's just a recognition that sometimes Things Happen and a prudent consumer is wise to protect him/herself against those unforeseen circumstances.

I was triggered by the statement about the amount owed to a member and the fact that I experienced the exact same issues as others (lots of delays in the shipping and communication process, problems with tracking info and shipping address, and so on), where I initially thought I was the only one and it was just a case of bad luck. But as I said, I'm not ready to accuse him of anything. I will, however, make sure to cover my ass in future transactions with booksellers - whether I consider them to be friends or not. I hope Matt will sort this out.

I think that what you meant was that we should use the Goods & Services payment type to protect EVERYONE'S interest. It really doesn't amount to much extra in most deals.

I too bought from Matt and though my last buys were late like most others this summer, I'd definitely consider buying from him again. There was certainly no malice in what was going on, and he has a passion and talent for obtaining these ultra-rare items. The "fixes" that he needs to make are simple fixes, so once he's ready and able, I don't think anyone should need to hesitate if he has an item that they want.

Finally signed contract to buy a new house so all those "doubles and triples" and other stuff must go. Losing a lot of built in shelf space. I'll start with new stuff at about cost.

Set of PS Publishing Ann. Eds. - Carrie, Christine, Pet Semetery, Thinner (just the matching no., variant cover NOT included). All on hand $420.00. Matching Skeleton Crew and Salem's Lot on order - $200.00. Plus US Priority Shipping.
Ordered thro SPress so any further editions should be able to be matched by them, but I personally cannot guaranty that.

Carrie - CD S/L Artists Ed. - $225.00. Plus US Priority shipping. Also have matching Salem's Lot on order - $250.00.
I'm pretty much sure they will transfer number to new owner.

Bob,
I think the confusion may be just around the gold. If you look closely it appears the printer was just off when it printed the gold color on it. On the spine of #2 you can see where the D bled into the E of Dead. To me they look the same font just bad coloring.

That's a great offer jsweet! and perhaps someone here has taken advantage of it. I would say that many of us are chasing those mint copies. When I find my own upgrade copies, I find that the Facebook groups are a great place to giveaway the freebie offers. Lots of brand new readers there that are very appreciative of getting the books, and even the non-pristine starter 1st editions that begin the next generation of SK collectors. You should be able to give them away very quickly there to some highly enthusiastic, young SK readers!

So if you aren't getting interest here, I'd say to try offering them there and you'd get rid of them pretty quickly to the new SK fans that we need as we all age right along with King.

I have a Whelan coming this week to me. It really is an AMAZING piece. It is a King inspired Halloween piece. Big at 16x20 for the image and it is framed. I would be keeping this no question but a piece I commissioned is done and well.. i was not ready for it, so I think I am going to sell this. The painting is full color oil on canvas and the price is deadly at $3100! It will include shipping to US or Canada. If your interested and have wanted a cool Whelan this could be the piece. As always, I am opened to a partial trade as well. If I can help someone get one of Micheal's pieces.. I darn well will:) If you want to chat more or see a picture PM me and hopefully I can help!!!!

Well another bill just slapped me in the face (lol it is King related and I will share when arrives!) so I am adding a picture of this piece and someone is going to get a steal of a deal!!! FREE Shipping... AND $2750 for this!!!!!! Here is a pic... cool as hell! The piece is called: "Trick or Treat"

Kris,
You say this piece is King inspired. How does it relate to King? I'm drawing a blank trying to make the connection.

I do like it a lot though.

I was as well Bob to be honest. The owner told me that it was and I asked him how so and he said cause it is horror themed. Either way its a real cool looking piece and would be keeping it for the price but I was hit with three commissions that got done at the same time by other artists. Some I have been working on for nearly a year!!!!! Hopefully someone takes advantage of it:)

I know i haven't been here long enough to know many backstories, and for all i know i'm stepping into the middle of a shitstorm, but from my perspective i saw nothing wrong with the post. I know that Betts prices are excellent, so knowing I might get a copy there for $28 is good to know. Knowing that others have got their copies for $50 tells me that this is a very resonable priced as well. As a newish collector i appreciate this kind of information.

As i said, there may be more to this story than i am aware of, and i will apologize for sticking my nose in when unwarranted, but i felt that there was another perspective as well.

Chris

EDIT: as this post has already earned me some neutral/negative reputation points, i'll take the hint and keep my opinions to myself for awhile.

I had to laugh when you started your response with "no offense"...and then went on to call him a dick. :P

For what it is worth, I agree that people shouldn't be commenting on other folk's prices here.

Refer to post #1 in this thread (which by definition, this very post is in violation of).

Who gave you negative rep? And for what?

There is not a thing wrong with what you posted.

In fact I'm giving you positive rep for such a well stated position.

Don't remain silent because someone else has issues.

In the first post of this thread RF has posted a few rules. One of which is, "Questioning, or criticizing a sale price is considered rude."

We do have a thread for valuing items. The idea being that price discussions occur there.

Anyone need a 1st/1st Danse Macabre? I came across a (what I consider) very nice copy recently, and I don't intend to keep it in my collection. I grade it as a NF book in a VG jacket (no fading, no tears, some light chipping). If anyone is interested, I can take pictures. Just wanted to offer it up here first before anywhere else. $30 to members, if I list it on the 'bay, I'm going to start it at $35.

Sold. Thanks Jason!

Thanks, Brian! Yes, the photos are on my HDD

From the menu at the top of the page click Gallery. From the upper right of the menu on top of the new page click Upload Photos. Click the Browse button. Navigate to the photo on your hard drive and select it. Click Open. Wait for the photo to upload. When it's complete you will be taken back to your gallery.

You have three picture options. You can post the thumbnail, the medium sized image below the thumbnail, or you can click on the medium sized image and another window will open with a full sized image. Right click the image you want. Select Copy Image Location, then click the http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/images/editor/insertimage.png button in the thread you want and paste the image location in the box. Click OK.

You did it!

notes: You can only upload one photo at a time. The site will reduce your large photo to the largest image allowed in the post. There are a few other options that you can play with after you learn the basics.

For the record I have never passed out negative rep points and I wanted you to know it was not me. This forum is for selling not belittling a members asking price... There is a forum for discussing this sort of thing. And it is NOT here. I find it rude and ignorant to do that to a fellow member. You just didn't know and that is ok. Cheers!
