You've already received a few bids. Nice!

It looked like the King items you sold last month did rather well. Arkham does well on HA too.

I finally lined up my books chronologically and realized I don't actually own a Grant Wizard and Glass hardcover. So I'd be interested if anyone had one for sale (or trade?). Not looking to spend lots and it doesn't have to be perfect, just looking to fill a hole on the shelf.

Glad to hear book arrived safe.

Sorry...cannot find the flyer (looked high and low)...but that said, it was just a monthly listing of the events from Rainy Day Books for November 2014.....nothing special really.

The ticket stub was the cool thing to walk away with...Glen and I practically had to beg to get one back at the end of the night. You will notice they defaced (lined-out) the Rainy Day stamp on the back to ensure we did not try to redeem for another book.

Yes. They are very special. Hill signed a number of pages that were tipped in by the publisher. True signature, not a facsimile.

The book has a gold sticker on the front indicating it is a signed first edition. Inside is a page signed by Hill and noting it is a special edition that has been specially bound by the publisher..

Grant Wizard and Glass DTIV flatsigned by Stephen King. $650 OBO

Book is Nr Fine (only reason I am not saying fine is the edge of the page block has gotten a little dusty from storage by the previous owner, it will almost certainly clean up well with the right material) DJ is Fine. Dan, might I ask why you would not sell to anyone other than US members? I find that a little off putting since we all work together here to bridge that gap. So many members here are willing to help in the regard... so why would you not sell to other countries? This really irks me... sorry man... but it does.

webstar1000
12-08-2014, 08:27 AM
My apologies for not shipping outside of the U.S., but I've had 2 separate difficult international transactions as a buyer in this year - and want to keep it as simple as possible. If this is a deal-breaker or puts folks off of this deal, I will happily take it down. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Dan

It was not through this community though was it?

webstar1000
12-08-2014, 08:42 AM
Im not the only one on here but my thoughts are this is wrong for obvious reasons. I live in Canada and hate when i cannot bid on a book say through Ebay or whatever. I just always thought this was a place that borders... were NOT borders. There have been so many members here that have helped me with my collection, REGARDLESS of where I live. This is an amazing place but the day we start shutting out the members that do not live in the US?????? I would be taking a second thought about sticking around. My thoughts... take it down or offer it to EVERY member. My rant. Im done.

I'm sure I speak for a good number of us, Dan, that has absolutely no problem with you assigning whatever restrictions you want on your sale. Your books, your rules.

'Sides, especially because of Christmas and the deluge of shipments, your concerns about delay in arrival and being misplaced are well-founded.

I see your in the US. I would be interested to hear from more people on this topic.....

I am in the U.S., yes, but that doesn't doesn't affect my opinion in the same way that living in Canada seems to affect yours.

Just as he has chosen to make the two books inseparable, he has chosen to restrict his shipping. They're his books to do as he chooses, and calling him out in the manner that you've done seems to me to be more in violation of the spirit of the forum than, as you allege, his not shipping to members outside the U.S.

I agree - his books, his rules.

I'm in the process of sending a book to Canada for another member, but every seller has the right to sell his/her books however they want. If he doesn't want to ship to Canado, that it his decision.

Sorry Kris, I have to agree - His books, His rules. Does it limit his potential buyer pool? Sure it does, but that's his decision.

It's annoying as a potential buyer when something is restricted because of location, but there are ways around it as we have seen. I resolved my problem by using a Post storing and forwarding service based in the US. I get a free US email address and save money over individual postage costs by shipping multiple packages simultaneously (they also use reputable shippers and throw in a reasonable amount of insurance for free). I have had 40+ books shipped to me by this method. Not one issue and they arrived in less than 3 days on average.

$415 PP Gift includes U.S. shipping. I can PM photos when I get home later on tonight around 7pm MST.

Offer available for the next 48 hours!

Thanks for looking,

Dan, might I ask why you would not sell to anyone other than US members? I find that a little off putting since we all work together here to bridge that gap. So many members here are willing to help in the regard... so why would you not sell to other countries? This really irks me... sorry man... but it does.

Kris,

If you like these books, I can be your US address and I will bring them to Florida event with me :) FREE SHIPPING :)

Ok, It is what it is. I do not agree with it but obviously more so do. And RC65 I have done nothing other than give my opinion which you state I have... that is the spirit of this forum is it not? I was not rude in any way other than to give my feelings. Your direct response was more rude than not. You know darn well why I have an issue with it... being from Canada. Your little way of pointing it out is wasn't in the "spirit". I was not attacking you what so ever.. just pointing out you would have less issue with it being as your from the US where most collectors dwell. But thanks for that...

My apologies for not shipping outside of the U.S., but I've had 2 separate difficult international transactions as a buyer in this year - and want to keep it as simple as possible. If this is a deal-breaker or puts folks off of this deal, I will happily take it down. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Dan

Don't worry about not shipping out of US. I have purchased many items from overseas only to have the packages completely destroyed, not show up or lost forever. My theory is that there is an SK avid collector who works for the Royal mail, watches these boards constantly and has a heck of an SK collection thanks to "intercepting" all these awesome books that we exchange to each other!

I'm afraid I don't...I truly don't understand why you took a seller's business decision so personally.

Nor why you took my response so personally.

But I regret that you took my phrasing as rude or curt; that wasn't my intention. I'll leave it at that, and just say we'll just have to agree to disagree on the seller's decision.

Plus, most sellers will entertain the idea of sales using a middle man, shipping overseas with "no guarantees", or increasing shipping cost. A more productive method of correcting this situation, since you feel you and other international buyers are being left out, might be to ask the seller if they would make such exceptions.

Just be aware of the high shipping from the US to other destinations. The Post Office has dropped all lower priced options. It's extremely high now to send a 2-7 pound box. It is over $50 now. It's crazy. You can try something a little cheaper by using UPS. You save roughly $15 but you have to take it to a drop off location to get that price. If UPS picks it up, the price is higher over USPS.

Believe me I know this. I'm in a discussion right now with a member that I sent two books.

I was hoping that would not happen here. Anyways, no harm done. Good luck with your sale. kris

It shouldnt matter why he doesn't want to, his terms are plainly specified in the offer. (Most probably the reasons are High shipping cost, as in you cant offer FREE SHIPPING as an enticement for sale and eat $40-50 shipping cost unless you got the damn book for free AND stuff sent internationally is not as protected as stuff sent domestically, there is a better chance of it going lost, trapped by customs, being damaged, ect)

You seem to be trying to guilt trip Dano into doing what you want (ship to Canada) and not what he wants (keep shipping domestic to avoid potential problems) by causing a dramatic ruckuss on the boards.

Why not just agree with his terms if you want to make the deal? Or arrange yourself the 3rd party shipper? The transaction could have easily been managed by you, but instead you chose to make a fuss.

I think sellers should be able to dictate any terms they wish and avoid the guilt trip or a pity party from any buyer who feels left out. If you dont agree to the terms of the Deal, dont do the Deal! There is plenty of merch which changes hands on these boards and I, for one, am thankful for the opportunity to get my hands on it. You cant win every deal, though and if something passes you by, there is a good enough chance something similar will be offered again, or perhaps even something better!

having just read all the comments on the last few pages, I have to say that I'm with Kris on this one. Although they are Dan's books and therefore Dan's rules, restricting the sale solely to individuals who reside within the US is certainly not in keeping with the community spirit that this forum tries to instil.

I do understand and fully appreciate the fact that Dan has reservations about shipping internationally, especially because he has experienced problems in the past. However, these problems were not a direct or indirect result of dealing on this forum. IMHO members should not be discriminated against because of something that has happened externally to this site. I personally believe that items listed on this thread should be made available to ALL members, irregardless of where they live in the world.

This site is built on the community spirit of its members, and I am glad to read that many people here PM'd Kris to offer their support with potential shipping. This is the kind of behaviour that makes this site great to be a part of. Without this sense of community spirit to help each other out, this forum will likely perish.

Listing items on this thread should be about helping other members build their personal collection, and not for avoiding PayPal fees.

Just my 2 cents worth...

My opinion is that a seller should be able to dictate terms of his sale, which he did and you didn't agree with his terms so you drug his sale through the mud in a attempt to raise sympathy for your own opinion to the point he took the listing down!

You act in a passive-aggressive way, webstar. If a seller dictates terms you don't agree with then DONT BUY HIS ITEM! Buy it from another guy or a seller who does have terms that are within your liking. Your attempt to fly the flag of hey cant we all agree on everything? is tailored to your own agenda, isnt it? If not you would have just passed on the sale and moved along. Instead you made it a topic of discussion. Which is cool and all this being a discussion board but to do so in the sellers thread where the guys listing is affected is a slight upon the seller and disrespectful to the marketplace as a whole.

Sales do or don't happen everyday. Most of them are helped along by NEGOTIATION. But you didn't attempt to negotiate (by sending a private message to the seller asking if he would make an exception to his blanket no out of USA shipping) instead you wanted to raise a ruckus in which you were the poster child of its not fair for Canadians and Englishmen who also want cool collectibles. You probably don't even want to buy his item. But you do want to fly your flag and fight for your right to party or have items shipped to Canada. That is disrespectful conduct (In my opinion) in the marketplace. A FREE marketplace, might I add.

My hats off to Randall Flagg and everyone who helps facilitate the wonderful FREE marketplace we enjoy here as members. Those who impede its effectiveness I do not hold in the highest esteem.

I dont really have any other thoughts on the manner. It is his books. I agree with that... but he does not own the site. We all do in a way... and I feel that isnt fair BUT a HUGE THANKS to the guys here who PM'd me and offered to help at any time. VERY KIND and your what makes this site great. Cheers folks.

Again, my apologies and I agree - I do not own the site - and in that spirit I formally withdraw my offer. I will go back and remove my posts. Sorry again for causing a stir.

Dan

They are right. You dont owe me an apology nor was I looking for one Dan. I just asked you why you wouldnt.. thats it. Not everyone has the same opinion... there was a time here when the place was divided about flipping books for a profit. Some here can attest to how frustrating (happened to me today!) it can be to bid on a book... and then kicked back that you are not allowed. It sucks. Big time...

Are you kidding me? LOL Man, instead of attacking what I said... find your own opinion on the topic. I made a fuss for the general group... not for me. Sorry this upsets you so much ya friggin baby.

me trying to get a discussion going is wrong.

I dont think it is wrong. I think discussion is warranted. I just believe it shouldn't happen in the marketplace thread where it could impede or impact a members sale. I apologize if my post sounded combative or like an attack on you and of course I am just as at fault for mucking up the marketplace thread with commentary. We should start a thread on market place ettiquette / discussion and leave this area for listing sales.

Nope, didn't take offense at all. I've seen the "eye" and other iterations of the "Ka" quote, but never in a 1st/1st. Thus, the high starting price. Mr. Whelan signed it for me, personally, earlier this year.

Great story to share.

Quickly after posting, both racerx45 (Steve) and Lot guy (Matt) sent me a PM expressing an interest in the book. Steve's PM beat Matt's by a matter of minutes and I sent both a follow up PM with terms while notifying Matt that racerx45 had first right of refusal as a result of the timing of his PM.

Steve desperately wanted the book and agreed to all terms but recognized Lot guy's passion for 'Salem's and, as a result, DEFERRED the decision to Matt granting him first right of refusal to make the acquisition.

Just an awesome gesture by racerx45 that I didn't want to go un-noticed.

It is indeed a special community.

Thanks Brian

The fact that my PM was just a little quicker than Matt’s and knowing that he has been after this book for a longer time than I have made it a pretty easy decision to switch places in line with him.
Matt sent me a PM expressing his thanks and I am glad everyone involved is pleased with the outcome.

Randall Flagg

The "clone/baby" is doing well. The DNA was used (technical terms are too much for me) to create an "egg". The "egg"was inserted in a known King fan who resides in Southern California. She birthed SK clone in April, 2013. A well known secret, SKII has been to several King events, but only under the guise of getting something signed (or obtaining a better seat-early admission).
Little SKII is doing fine. At 18 months he is already refusing to sign and date anything.
Though genetically unrelated, Patrick is listed as the father on the birth certificate. tippy4 and I are unofficial uncles.

I need to ask how much french copies of THE COLORADO KID were printed, because it is very rare in France.
I believe that the publisher only had the rights for one printing, and it's very difficult to find this mass paperback. There are 1-2 copies being sold for 20€, the other copies are being asked for over 100€ which is ridiculous for a mass paperback...

The french edition of The Green MIle 1 is the true first worldwide edition. Furthermore, the limited edition contains a fac simile of message + signature from King to his french readers.
Documentation shows that there were 300 numbered copies, and an unknown amount of unnumbered copies (I have only seen 2-3 unnumbered copies).

Yes I did actually Michael thank you for pointing that out. I have since spoken to that member about my intent to sell. I was on the fence last night but since he told me it was my book, he said I could do with it as I pleased. Also, if it helps me acquire another, say "holy grail" item isn't that okay? I'm sure many have done the same in the past.

Once again, thank you for pointing it out, but I think at this time I am choosing to post it for sale.

I'm not criticizing, I'm just surprised that you would post it as a Pride & Joy at all if you never had the intention to keep it. It IS your book so by all means, sell it if you wish.

No longer for sale

Salem's Lot S/L'd is currently for sale, if interested PM me a "reasonable" offer. (I'm not assigning an asking price because I really suck at it.)
Condition is as new, see posted pics (also some additional pics in my collection thread)

p.s yes I know David at Betts had one for around 2200.00
