I haven't seen him online for awhile. Maybe he's traveling? He's usually fairly regular here.

Can anyone give a "shout out" via alternate media?

Yes, please? LOL And thanks, Bill! Because he was so honest and up-front. Remember the concern he had with the hot foil stamping? I posted the pics he sent me here asking for everyone's help. Come to find out, everything is fine. I emailed him saying everything fine. But I haven't heard from him since.

He seemed very interested in this trade. The book he wants would complete an aspect of his collection. A win-win!

Again, thanks!

Okay who wants A flat signed Gunslinger 1st/2nd in pretty damn good condition for $700? I have been offered an artist signed 1st/1st for the same money, but the seller doesn't want to trade - only sell.
Hopefully you will have seen my pictures of SK signing the book recently in Paris. Happy to post pictures for you experts to grade.

Waiting for the first appearances and anthologies...
Also, I might be able to help you out with some of those Chrictons you posted about. I'll be making my rounds this weekend.

Ditto and I think I also have a few of the Simmons and Matheson. Want to see what anthologies you have.

Well all... I have done what I had to do... needed that total matching set. I worked out a great deal with our good friend David at Betts and I am now the owner of a complete matching set.. one of the 66.... I am number #459:):):) I will not have them for a bit as money does not grow on tress but it was too good to pass up. The Dark Tower has been my favorite set of books and to have them all signed (including the elusive first one) in perfect shape.. plus 4 others that match??? Had to do it. Saying this... I am now putting mine up for sale.

Mine is a matching set from The Waste Lands (DT#3) and up in #576. The set (as you can see in my collections thread) is mint and perfect from DT#2 and up. The Gunslinger is a 1st/1st and has just the hint of shelf wear only. The Drawing of the Three is a 1st/1st and the number #576 is out there, I also have Desperation in #576 as well if you would like to add that to the collection.... I am open to offers... I can send more pictures if you like, you may also pay by Pay Pal and you do NOT have to use the gift option... This way you are protected in every way if for some reason you are not satisfied. You have 45 days to contact Pay Pal if there is a problem to get your money back. The books are all sealed but I had this done professionally for moisture etc and is not the original sealing. Any other questions... please ask.. and PM me if you have a reasonable offer!! Thanks guys:)

Friends -

After posting my latest 'collectible classifieds' I received several inquiries and I still owe some of you a reply - sorry about that! I have been awfully busy but I will get back to you ASAP this week, and I will also post pics of my magazines and anthologies when I can. For those interested in the anthologies, be aware that they are trade editions only (not S/Ls).

This listing is on behalf of Glenn Chadbourne (I'm just the middle man for the deal)

Glenn is offering his remaining Signed Limited Edition (Contributors Copy, marked as a P/C) of Cemetery Dances "The Dark Man" (signed by King and Chadbourne).

Included in the $US400 asking price (PP Gift Option) is US shipping and a remarque (content to be decided by the buyer and Glenn).

This offer price is only $50 higher than issue price with a remarque and shipping thrown in !!!!

Any takers, please PM me and I'll pass the details first cab off the rank through to Glenn

I just ordered some 8" tall Brodart Archival covers for my three copies of THE DARK MAN.

To get a long enough piece to cover the entire 26" DJ, I had to order a 300' roll of the stuff.

If anyone wants some, I would sell 10' for $10 shipped in the US (10' will cover four books).

Email me if you want some.

Hey guys, I bought a S/L (#392) Joyland from a member here who was great to deal with and I thank him but literally the next day or so after I bought the master set on Bett's and it came with a matching number Joyland.. some might have noticed that. So... I am now selling my Joyland. I paid $300 + Shipping which is a good price and just would like to get that and my shipping back. My shipping was only about $20US and I also have a un-opened copy of the Gift I will include the whole thing.. shipped anywhere in US/Canada for $470 and you may use Pay Pal goods and services to protect yourself as always:) I also go the Doctor Sleep hence why I sold the PC ones here for cover price. Thanks and hopefully I can move these!

I am also getting read to sell my extra copy of CDs Doctor Sleep #633. I am just waiting for Erin Wells to send mine back once she has remarqued it. I want to hold this as backup, in case mine gets hurt/lost, but if someone wants to lay claim to it feel free. $650 plus shipping, and the joy of knowing that ebay got screwed seems like a good deal? I should have mine back from Erin shortly.

I also have a few remarqued pieces up on ebay (Secretary Trade two and Bullet) cool remarques. And I have a second remarqued Secretary not up on ebay that is even better. I will discount off the ebay price of course.

PM me if interested.

Just me, but art (and pricing) are very subjective AND "emotional". There has to be an immediate "have to have" in many (not all) circumstances.
There are several one of a kind pieces, and I like them, love them; but I can't/won't buy them. Too peculiar and too expensive.

I echo that.. You must draw a line on what you collect and don't collect right? You can not collect everything... or can you?

So guys... I am prepared to offer my Dark Tower set out to a buyer in pieces... meaning... you can take the whole set (#576) book by book on "layaway". I know it is tough to come up with that kind of cash but thought this would be a good way to do it. You can start with the first book and work your way through. It is just a thought. I would like to move them by the time I am due to take mine as the money would go towards mine at Bett's... Just a thought and if anyone is interested and would like to know more... PM me:)

I also have one of these. I have looked and nothing on there is in my price range. Mine is available free (in the end I ended up with it for free myself, so just passing on) to anyone who wants it - just PM me for the code (1st come 1st served!). As it's a gift certificate (as opposed to a coupon code) you should be able to combine with dnemec's

Sorry - that wasn't my intention! mine cost me absolutely nothing in outlay (I got to keep it after I returned the purchased book) so happy to pass it on. VFB's prices are pretty high, but if there is a book someone wants and cant get anywhere else $100 off should make it a little more palatable.

I got the code! Thanks Guys. Except for Very FIne Books doesnt want anyone using those gift certificates. They said that the GC was not transferable. I was going to buy a gift edition of Doctor Sleep! Would of been a good deal $195 + shipping with $100 off. GC are not combinable, redeemable or usable. They did say you guys could buy it for me, but then with double shipping etc... would of been too much hassle.

Thanks anyway!!!

Have to comment on this - I find this to be rather shitty. At his prices I would think his customer service and need for good will would be over the top exceptional. For a relatively small sale (compared to his other listings) he could have been more accommodating which might have inspired future business.

Two free King comic books

Shipping will probably be around $5 because I'm sending this from Canada. I'll send your change back if there is any. I don't need any money for packing and my time...think of it as a late Christmas present. Santa passed out drunk or some such.

The Talisman preview ("black & white special edition")
The Gunslinger Born #5 black and white variant by Jae Lee. This is the hardest one to find, I think the ratio was 1:75

Anyways, free King comics, pay for shipping and they're yours.

Hello all. This post is coming from NJ.
I have 11 signed Stephen King Novels (all signed on the original dust jackets) along with 8 unsigned first edition Stephen King novels that I would like to sell as a complete lot. All books are hardcover. My Aunt sent the 11 dust jackets to Stephen King's home in 1988 asking for his signature on each. Approximately 3 months later he sent them back to her, all signed in a variety of places on the dust jackets (some pen, some sharpie) along with a yellow pre-printed postcard acknowledging her correspondence.
Signed books:
- The Shining- 1st Doubleday Book Club edition
- Eyes of the Dragon- 1st edition ( front/back boards have 2 small marks each from tape)
- It-1st edition (2 small tape marks on both front/back boards and a minor water stain on bottom)
- Thinner- 6th printing (minor water stain)
- Skeleton Crew- 1st edition( 2 small pieces tape on both the front/back boards) - Misery- 1st edition
- Pet Sematary- 2nd edition
- The Talisman- 1st edition- (2 small pieces of tape each attached to the protective cover and outside of the front/back boards)
- The Stand- 1st edition- missing the price clipping and does have the stated T39 on page 823.
- Salem's Lot- 1st Book Club edition
- Carrie- 1st Book Club edition

Unsigned books: (all 1st editions)
- The Dark Tower- The Gunslinger (only 10,000 copies printed)-small tear back cover. Overall great condition
- Cycle of the Werewolf
- Cujo
- Firestarter
- Different Seasons
- The Dark Tower 2- Drawing of the Three
- Christine
- Night Visions 5

I have pictures of all signatures and some of each book. Most dust jackets have been protected and are in good shape. All bindings appear intact and in good shape. Please contact me if this lot is of interest to you. I have had offers to break up the lot but prefer to sell as 1 unit.

I would say so, but what about the signing? Didnt Bev once said that his office had a machine to reproduce his signature? therefore the letter could have been typed by his secretary and the signature done by this machine?
Just a random thought

No, I never said anything like that. Often secretaries produce letters and leave them for the boss to sign. Or they might sign them. Who knows?

Jeremy, I think you are referring to an auto-pen. I have never heard that King has used one. Michael Crichton once used one to sign thousands of copies of a book quite a while ago. I think it was a gift, illustrated edition of Jurassic Park or something. It created quite a lot of negative feedback from collectors and he said it was a big mistake on his part to use it.

Well ... that sucks. I'll of course go with the opinion of the experts, but in my own defense, with the exception of the n loop around thing at the end of "Stephen," doesn't that signature look a lot like the rest of these?

It resembles them but that is the idea of a secretarial signature. In most cases no one cares if a letter is signed by a secretary or not. It is just more convenient.

One of my "needful things" is a team signed baseball by the 1961 New York Yankees. I've seen a few but on most the sigs of Mantle and Maris are "clubhouse signatures" signed by someone else. You have to get an authenticating service to tell the difference most times and we know how error prone those services can be. I'll probably never own one just because of that.

:YYY:

BTW, I have a team signed 1998 Yankee's ball that, Lee Mazzilli obtained for me. He took it to each player for a signature. That team had a few stars as well! LOL That '61 team had what? 3 HOF ers? (Ford, Mantle & Berra). '98 should produce at least 2 (Jeter & Rivera)

Yep, that is true. I thought that you mentionned that at some point King was using it, but I may be wrong.
My other opinion on this letter is that it had been typed by King's secretary and signed by him.

It was almost surely typed by Shirley Sonderegger after being dictated by King. I think that is what the "SK/ss" notation means. I don't know who signed it but I am pretty certain it wasn't King.

While the practice of secretaries signing letters is pretty common across the business world I don't recall seeing it before in letters from King's office. I have seen many letters signed by King and this is the first one I can recall that was signed by someone else. It may have some value just because it seems to be an oddity.

The lowercase letters on a business letter indicate the TYPIST of the letter (http://www.ehow.com/how_8450891_indicate-typists-initials-letter.html) and do not necessarily indicate who performed the actual signature.

Hi Kris..
I did a calculation on selling your set for $5000 based on the low/high prices from The Collector website. I certainly agree you have a very fair price at $5000. Based on the distribution equity of the books, you are selling the TWTTKH for less than $800. The total set is only 81% of the listed low sell of the books. This does not include the free gift that you offered. You probably could get more for your set by breaking them up and selling separately. . best of luck

Book Issue Low Avg High Purchase % Cost
DT2 100 $1,200 $1,40 $1,600 20.22% $1,010.83
DT3 UNK $600 $700 $800 10.11% $505.42
DT4 UNK $900 $1,000 $1,100 14.44% $722.02
DT5 200 $550 $600 $650 8.66% $433.21
DT6 175 $650 $700 $750 10.11% $505.42
DT7 225 $650 $700 $750 10.11% $505.42
LSOE 300 S650 $725 $800 10.47% $523.47
TWTTKH 350 $950 $1100 $1250 15.88% $794.22
Total $6,150 $6,925 $7,700 100.00% $5,000.00

Those prices for DT5, 6, 7 and LSOE seem a lot higher than actual market prices have been recently.
LSOE and DT 7 in particular can easily be had in the $300 to 350 range. (obviously matching numbers will bump the prices up a bit).

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but I don't think the price ranges in the descriptions on the collector's site have been updated in a long time.
He usually has an ebay history chart with more recent pricing.

Shannon.. the spreadsheet is based on all of them being S/Ls.. I did not pickup on the description w/DT2 not S/L, so you are correct. The sheet is off, so I attached revised figures without DT2. This places the set as being 100% of low The Collector estimates. May not as good of a deal as I first thought, but still not real bad.

I agree that some of The Collectors esitmates (even at the low end) seem to be a bit high for V through VII. But you have to remember that while books 1 and 2 aren't S/L's, they are still included and so $5k is a fair deal IMO.

Yes they are there and 1st/1st. It also includes shipping as well do not forget. I am in Canada so this will cost me MUCH more considering it is going to the US most likely. I LOVED reading all your thoughts and debate over it though! Special thanks to RIC and Shannon:) I have a few interested now and if you send me your email I will send a TON of pics. You can also go through David at Bett's to know it is legit since I am new to the site. I have heard and read some horror stories on here about people being "shifty" so to speak. Anyway... great discussion guys! If no ones buys the whole set... you guys think I should break the 9 volumes up and sell them individually? thanks!

I'm the person who sold this set to Kris 3 months ago. Glad he found a complete matching set, and more power to him if he can get $5k, but just a caveat that he paid $4k for the set. He's looking for a $1k profit on a quick flip. I also thnk his grading of that copy of the Gunslinger is a bit optimistic.

To all on the site to whom I have gotten to know and chat with. This guy may or may not be the guy to whom I bought the books from as he is not from San Antonio (the guy was from Toronto) so I am not sure if he is being straight with you or not. His numbers are also wrong as well. I incurred an insured cost to ship the books as it was not included. This is above the $4k I paid. The person I also bought the books from tricked me (as I did not know enough at the time) and made it sound like this was the most complete set I could get (cause it was under #800 and that was what Wind went to number wise) ... baring a DT book #2. It was not until I joined here that I found out three were Gunslingers S/L under 500 though... thus I had a nun-completable set. The price I am asking is fair as we have all discussed earlier. Ask anything you want guys as I will answer honestly. As for his grading of Gunslinger... pictures would be provided of the entire book for you to decide. Cheers, kris

I would also like to point out I am including shipping/insurance as well.. so I am really lucky to make a $100 or 2... if anyone feels like is wrong please let me know. People make a few bucks here all the time... there is nothing wrong with that and this "guy" has done his best to make me feel like shit for it. I sold a Doctor Sleep to Matt without making a penny... and he noted that. So I think I have established the kind of person I am here. This "guy" has been bashing me in constant emails... I wish he would have just kept his books.... man oh man.

The facts actually are that I did not trick Kris, nor did I ever claim it was the most complete set possible. In fact, I told him that my DT3 was only a 1st/1st, and not a signed limited. So he got more than was described.

Just want to make sure the facts are accurate.

Unless Kris misrepresents the facts again, I'm done here.

Doctor Sleep - Cemetery Dance Internal Proof. I've been told is worth $650 due to the low number printed.

I had a "bad" experience that says NO, not worth $650....I paid $500 for a copy...tried to sell it at Betts for 3 months (A LOT of people saw it)...I finally sold it for $375 to a member here who I think got a great deal....my two cents...worth $450 tops.

interesting. i know someone who paid more than 550.

i'll take offers, but i don't think you'll see another one for sale. i know where 3 of them are and there were only 20 total, with 10 being released.

To tell you the truth, as soon as I saw it for $375 I kinda wondered why it hadn't sold. I knew the print run was relatively low, but not as low as it actually was (per jhanic, 20 made, 10 used internally, 10 available to collectors). The only thing that comes to mind is that folks thought it was the Scribner proof, which would have made $375 high for that. I hadn't checked the Betts website for awhile before that night, and happened to time it lucky with David posting a new batch. I'm pretty damn happy that I caught it; it wasn't even on my proofs radar due to rarity, I didn't think I'd ever have a chance at getting a copy. I think this is one of those "uh-ohs" that a bunch of people just missed for whatever reason. Perhaps not $650 today, but I can see it being a lot more costly down the road. JMO.

Anyway... great discussion guys! If no ones buys the whole set... you guys think I should break the 9 volumes up and sell them individually?

Obviously you need to do what you need to do to get your sale, but if you have no urgency for getting your dollars out of the set, I reckon hold on to the matching S/L's for as long as you can, as it seems a shame to break up a large number of matching numbers. But if you want your money, you may have better luck splitting them up.... just my 2.4c worth (NZD equivalent of 2c)

Thanks... I hate to see same numbers broke up for sure... my friend collects and tells me to keep it cause if another DT book comes out I will have the right to the number at retail... (that is a real gamble though) lol

Re: the Doctor Sleep proof. I think I am in the minority here but I have never even considered paying any money for any CD proof. The market value of a proof is not solely determined by scarcity, IMO. To me, a proof is only interesting if it's the proof of the true 1st edition of a book. On top of that I have no love for shiny ARCs that look like a PB version of the hardcover edition (but I am weird like that, I much prefer the plain look of a true proof, because it's a truly different state of a book).

George at C-Springs
01-08-2014, 02:23 PM
That's crazy talk  They're all paperback versions of the hardcover, even if not shiny ... some are exact copies (Bag of Bones, etc.). While I like the old-style proofs (Carrie, EOTD, Talisman) I kinda like the new styles as well.

Come on Michaël, into the 21st century kicking and screaming you go!

You will get more money by breaking it up.

The odds of someone dropping $5K on a set of books (above#500) are slim to none.

That being said, when selling them, you should mention in each auction (if you go the ebay route) that you have the matching numbers, and will be listing them two per month.

Doing that might inspire someone to buy the first one from you on ebay, and the rest from you outside of ebay over a period of time.

It might take you longer to sell them, but you will save the ebay fees.

Is it just me, or do anyone else feel queasy about a seller making the terms of a private sale public? I have always considered private sales as just that private.. Am I old fashion?

Agree. It sounds as though the has been something going on between them, that the initial seller has issue with. Why else would he come to this site, drop a post like that, and then bugger off. If he had a true desire to "protect" potential purchasers from buying books misrepresented, wouldn't he stick around, get to know the community and contribute in other areas too?

I wouldn't take his comments too seriously myself.

George - I think I stated it before but while I love proofs/ARCs I always disliked the ones that look like the finished book. I don't own ARCs of Bag of Bones, Hearts in Atlantis or On Writing for that very reason (I used to, but sold them quickly). The only exceptions I made are for the two Pet Semataries. My proof goals have been 70s/80s/early 90s for a long time...

Since I only started collecting proofs a couple of years ago, these high-color glossy types are the norm for me. I do like the older, plain style ones but don't mind the new ones either. Hell, I've got so many from CD's Early Reader's Club that I better like them; they take up two shelves I think.

I am satisfied with mine. I figured it wouldn't exactly match the digital image. I will say the glue job to affix the dome to its base was shoddy. I barely twisted (counterclockwise as I wrongly assumed) to open the unit and it separated. I carefully re-glued it.

Why did y'all want these in the first place? Did you think the series was good enough to want personal copies to watch again and again? Or was it that the packaging intrigued you enough that you thought it might be a collectible that would increase in value over time? I'm not being critical here (at least I am not trying to be). I have certainly bought my share of stuff over the years that now I just look at and think "What the hell was I thinking when I bought that?"

I'm just wondering. Personally I didn't like the series enough to want copies for personal use so I never considered buying this set. But I've bought plenty of other things that I regretted.

I never watched a full episode. I preliminarily thought the "Dome" concept was cool. The delivery was less than expected, but it was a <$100 "lark" (https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/lark).
It did not turn out to be as wonderful as I had thought; but not everything is the greatest thing ever.

I have to agree. I think the show is horrible and I think the decision to make draw it out another year is ridiculous. However... from that first picture of the Dome in the previous thread... I would like to have that... the one that actually came... I think is garbage... like the show it comes from. Just my 2 cents guys but I sure do feel your pain.

Any chance of a pic? :)
Since it's signed prior to publication, I would tend to guess that some collectors here may be interested

I have some book sets for sale:
Patrick Rothfuss - The adventures of the Princess and Mr. Whiffle - these are the s/l sub press books - the first is the thing beneath the bed (limitation of 400) and the second is the deep dark below. They are both numbered - but not matching numbers. The second book does have a number below 400 though. Both new and unread - perfect condition. Camelot has the first book by itself for $400 and a set on ebay recently sold for between $400-500. Looking for $350 for both books (I will split shipping outside the US).

The second set is the Veronica Roth trilogy - Divergent, Insurgent and Allegiant - all 1st/1st and signed. Divergent and Allegiant were signed in person when I went to her signing this past Fall - these are both new and unread. Insurgent is the special collectors edition that came pre-signed. I would say it is in good condition - I can send pictures - There is some slight soiling on the first page before the signature page, some bumping to top/bottom of book. The DJ is in very good condition - no rips - just some crimping to top/bottom of spine. I also have some pins and a small poster from the signing that I would be happy to add.
Looking for $425-500 for this set

Will hear offers of course - just PM me - and I will be happy to send any pictures

Sorry - I posted lower prices on the Haven Fund thread - I will take $350 for each set and Donate half of total to the Haven Fund and give the buyer "half of the credit" for the grand prize - i.e. 8 chances to win (if you had not already hit your 10 total). If someone would like both sets I would sell them both for $650 total.

Stilll about the UtD limited BluRay. I just noticed that the amazon listing says there is the following exclusive content (30mins) :
- Stephen King Visits Big Jim's Car Dealership : A tour of the location with Stephen King as he explains how Chester’s Mill is based on a real town and makes a deal to buy a used car. >>> this one could be interesting.
- The Visual Effects of "Under The Dome": A visit with the Visual Effects team as they discuss the incredible sequences they worked on for the series.
- "Under The Dome": Executing the Finale : Exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from on set for the filming of the last episode.
- The Wilmington Pilot Premiere : On the Red Carpet in Wilmington, NC for the Pilot Premiere of Under The Dome. Includes interviews with cast members and creators, the city’s Mayor declaring June 24th Dome Day, and reactions to the gigantic success of the network premiere.

The first bit could be interesting... but i dont even have a bluray set to watch it :p

Amazon will only refund a $15 shipping. With such a box.....

Last message about that UtD bluray set : amazon reimburse $12 for shipping, but the post office charges me a minimum of $61 for sending it... which is way too much. So i'll keep it.
