Well, I hope the BLACK HOUSE goes through. I'm still kicking myself a little for not paying attention to the closing time on the BOB auction. I know you've had it on sale for a while, but I wasn't at the point of considering any purchases prior to the workday on Friday. Ah well.

The sale of Black House, to my delight, went off without a hitch. I guess I shouldn't assume the worst!

And its certainly too bad about Bag of Bones, not even the extra $$, just the fact that it could have gone to a friend here on the site - I much prefer dealing with folks on tdt.com! I'm sure you've already got one, but I'll have a S/L Insomnia available in the next week or so if you need to satisfy a need to add a King book to your shelf.

PM to ya Eric:)

A couple of questions. While this certainly looks to be King's writing there might be a question about it in the future. Could DMG supply provenance or at least a letter of authenticity to the eventual winner?

There is nothing written in the space for a number. Is it then, technically, a "PC" copy or is it just one of an unspecified number of printer overruns? Or are they essentially the same thing?

It will be a PC copy once I put PC in the space! LOL Took the pic before I had a chance to do it.

I can provide a letter on DMG letter head validating the signature.

Ari, the pic is in the first post that I made.

Y'all have until 5pm tomorrow for bidding. Highest bidder gets it!

Hey guys I'm really hurting financially. I've been falling behind the last couple of months and this month I just can't make it. So I am trying to get rid my copy of:

The Stand Limited for $1,500

This is $600 less than what I paid for it. Let me know if interested, I am only going to keep it around for about 24-48 hours then it goes on eBay, as I gotta sell it.

The condition is Fine: never read.

Great deal on that one Geoff. Sorry to hear your falling behind - I'm in the same boat right now. Hence my copy of the Salem's Lot S/L is on eBay. It was that or my copy of the Stand.

Either way, even in this economy you shouldn't have a problem moving it at that price - best of luck!

I'd love to help you out (this sounds a bit weird under the circumstances but you know what I mean), but I can't afford it, right now. If I had known a couple of months ago, I would have saved the money I now spent on a lot of other books, because if there's a S/L I'd love to own, it's this one :(

Anyway, I hope things will work out for you, Geoff.

Hi Everyone... I have a very very nice first edition, first printing HC of Carrie that I need to sell asap. I will be listing it on ebay later today but figured I would see if anyone here is interested first. Please PM with your email if you would like some pictures emailed to you.

Carrie , 5.95 price on the dust jacket , First Edition stated on copyright with P6 on page 199.

This is an ex library copy but it does not have the usual markings. The dust jacket is in excellent condition. No stickers on spine, no card pocket which looks like it was removed very professionally with no rips and minimal glue residue. There are NO library stamps anywhere in the book or the block. No stamps at all anywhere. An absolutely wonderful copy and I would call the jacket near fine with no rips. Tight and square binding.

I am needing to get 375.00 for the book, which is well worth it. Let me know if you would like some pictures. Thanks so much !!!

Tons of great signatures, tons of great stories, tons of great artwork and a JK Potter remarque to boot. This is an unnumbered copy of the 250 limited edition. Comes with the extra chapbook. Small shipping bump to bottom of front board. Otherwise everything is in fine/fine condition. Slipcase doesn't belong to the book, but the shoe fits... it is a little rough though.

$65 shipped if anyone is interested. Let me know!

Nope. So far as I know there are three Easton Press editions of Fahrenheit 451.

A signed edition. The one I have listed (I believe its from the Sci Fi classics series) with giltwork flame designs. And another "Collector's Edition" with generic giltwork to the boards.

Folks - A quick question... a general feeling on the Easton Press editions is positive then? I've seen a couple on eBay that I was interested in, but wasn't sure.

Pam -

It really depends on the title, and the edition. Make sure you do your homework is the general rule.

In terms of production qualities, they are all worth the money, its more so an issue of the real value.

They are for the most part open editions, and as I understand it, when you sign up to one of their book clubs you get the books one month at a time. In the 100 greatest books series, Moby Dick is one of the first books, so there are tons of them on the market, and they are worth next to nothing. Some of the later books command higher prices because there are fewer of them on the market.

But, the same title is often in several different series, so its good to check the covers, many have cool designs, almost like a frontispiece in gilt, while other are nice, but kinda dull.

I guess long response short, they are quality books that can be fun to collect, but you need to do some research before committing big $$.

Words of wisdom Eric, words of wisdom.

I should have clarified a little in my post. The few I'm looking for are part of the signed club editions. Some are auto-pen but some are actual signatures and limited.

I do like the Easton Press edition of The Dead Zone. Not signed but done very well IMO.

I've never seen an Easton Press book I didn't like.

Its interesting though, as some of the earlier ones, such as the two I have up on eBay, don't have the silk endpapers, but are still much more attractive books.

I've had some of the signed editions in the past, and the only thing I didn't like is that there is no limitation. I doubt the author signs as many copies as are ordered, year after year, but with it being left open like that.... I guess its possible.

The Easton 'signed first edition' series do have a limitaton (usually no more than 1700)...if you're a subscriber, some of them are big gainers in terms of price - Desmond Tutu, unfortunately Ted Kennedy - and others are slow climbers but good investments - Jerry Lewis, Tony Curtis - but others are not worth the issue price.

As for the 'signed modern classics' series, the limitation is open, but because their subscriber base is relatively small, I doubt there are more than 1700 copies of any specific book. They definitley don't see as much investment potential as the first editions though - Salman Rusdie and Jhumpa Lahiri should both have been worth something, imo, but they aren't.

Easton are kind of fun editions to gamble on - but sometimes you lose. Pre-elections, I spent a moderate price on some John McCain and a large price on John Kerry signed editons and lost heavily both times.

However, with Vonnegut it looks like he just had crates of signature pages to sign, becuase he's been dead for awhile, and some books are still available right from Easton. Prices on those books are starting to creep up. I just sold a Bagobo Snuff Box and Breakfast of Champions for $300+ each.

Easton explicity does not use auto-pens for what that's worth. Their COAs are pretty clear, so that's a good thing.

Patrick

The quality of the Easton Press books is high, in my opinion, and I really like them.

However I don't really buy any books as an "investment" in the traditional sense. I buy them because I want them and I rarely buy anything with the intention of selling it down the road. I go in only hoping that if I ever had to sell, I'd hope to get my money out at best, but would probably take a small loss. In other words, I generally consider this whole thing more of a discretionary expense, not so much an investment. Far fewer worries that way. That goes for all my collectible books, including the beautiful Easton Press editions.

I was actually looking at a signed Easton Press edition of Lord Valentine's Castle by Robert Silverberg. It's my favorite Silverberg book.

Thanks everyone. Your opinions mean the world to me. Sincerely.

Easton explicity does not use auto-pens for what that's worth. Their COAs are pretty clear, so that's a good thing.

Thank GOD you cleared that up. I was late to this and I almost died when I saw that.

You are completely correct about the win/win. The majority of my King books have been purchased from collectors here - who I know I can trust. That beats an eBay listing, any day of the week.

I will have two keys from SDCC..they will be flat signed on the tag.

I don't know what numbers they are.

Current bid on ebay is $50 and it's only been up for a few hours.

Anyone interested?

I will sell them for (I will throw out for now) $100 each. There was only 500 sold.

PM if interested.

Heres that Wrightson print I was talking about.

Framed it is about 18" x 14", the print itself is about 10" x 7.5" .

I'm not sure which illustration this is, but its from 1974.

The trading card also framed is signed by Bernie.

A neat piece of artwork/ collectible to hang on your wall!

Should have a box big enough in the next few days.

I'm asking $50 shipped (within North America), if anyone is interested.

I am selling my Danse Macabre Limited Edition. No. 82 of 250 copies. It is in Fine Condition and I doubt you could fine a Danse Macabre in better condition than this one. Plus it has the glassine wrap (which most do not have anymore) which again is in mint condition.

I'm asking for $800, which is cheaper than anything on abebooks and in better condition than anything on abebooks right now.

Yea, that's one of the best things about this copy is the fact that the glassine wrapper is in such great condition, which can be very hard to find (or expensive).

You wouldn't "know" if you had purchased it from someone who had done it themselves.
Personal rant, but I can not understand this "if it is not a virgin, I don't want it (her)" mentality, but as a Collector we all have standards.
People think I am crazy for rarely if ever opening a book, and having multiple copies of books, so it is a personal decision.

I've been asked by a few to post pictures of the first edition Carrie from the above sale $350:

5 pictures posted of this book.

It is probably one of the best condition X-Library copies I've seen. Purchased from Betts Books sometime ago:

*FIRST EDITION on Copyright Page with intact Jacket

*The spine shows a mark on the jacket

*Tape marks on front and back

*The same tape marks on the maroon cloth(kind of hard to see but there)

*Typical library stamps (I only count four)

Hope this helps

Once you hit 5 posts, you'll be able to private message those members selling them. I think the Gunslinger has made its way to eBay already though. Good luck and welcome!

I found a nice 1st edition of the Shining at a used book store here in London yesterday that I grabbed to upgrade my current copy, which I will now offer to you guys!

Heres the description from the seller when I originally bought this one:

Stephen King. The Shining. Doubleday 1977. First Edition. Very Good / Very Good+. This a US First Edition (stated) with the R49 print code on page 447 as required. Book has a slight lean with light rubbing to the cloth at the head and tail of the spine. Edges of text block are a little dust soiled. Small rough patch to the top right of the FEP (probably due to a price sticker removal). One of the nicest examples I have seen of what is a very fragile DJ. There is some overall light creasing/soiling though no tears or rubs that I can see. There is a large brown stain on the rear flap. $8.95 price is intact. Taken directly from my own collection. REFC321

The seller always under-grades his books I find, so I'd actually rate this one closer to NF-/NF-. I'm asking $210 shipped (what I paid).

I also have a red leather copy of Carrie, in just about perfect condition. $30 shipped for that one.

PM me! :nana:

I know it will be more work, but it is unlikely that anybody here (or on ebay) is going to buy the whole collection.

The only way you are going to sell the collection as a whole is if you sell it to a dealer or reseller, and then you are going to get half of what it is worth.

You need to break it up and put individual prices on it to get the most out of your sale. I would not bother waiting the two weeks.

JMO

(and I am not just saying that because I am interested in a couple of the items)

Good luck!!

I also agree. You might contact Stu Tinker at Bett's in Bangor. He also does consignments and he typically gets people to pay a higher price than what books go for on this forum or even on eBay.

Randall Flagg

I agree with tippy. Trying to sell in-toto will fetch you far less than your 7.5K price.
I really don't think if sold separately you will get your asking price. The market is soft and saturated. Only the most unique King items fetch a high price.

Rahfa
08-30-2009, 01:25 PM
Yeah...the $7500 isn't extreme or anything, but it is toward the top of what those are worth as a group. With a bulk discount you might entice someone who already owns a few of those items, or a new collector who wants to jump in with both feet.

I'm offering this package to DT members for a good deal before it hits ebay as I need space, money and a new rocket ship to send a friend of mine to another planet.....

There are two of three "signed" King books I recently picked up. I am keeping one and putting these two in this group. I personally am not positive that either are 100% real but you can check the EBay BS thread here as there are close ups of them as well as various peoples open opinions as well as my own honest thoughts as well as some provenance of no real value. If either are in fact real then the deal is really sweet.......however know what you are doing cause there's no bitching after....:)

1. Signed (?) Deloris Claiborne 1/1 US HC near mint with minimal wear
(ricky may say otherwise...:)

2. Signed (?) Plume Waste Lands TSC no number line which makes it reprint I believe. general exterior reading wear but very decent, complete and clean.

3. Robert R. McCammon ~MINE signed first edition with bump to bottom corner and remainder mark on top very good otherwise..
DEFINITELY REAL SIGNATURE

4. Anthony Burgess ~ Kingdom of the Wicked Leather signed Franklin Library first edition....author of the "Clockwork Orange" one of the greatest books ever....book is mint but has a pen scribble on page 23 (picture) made by some idiot that should be executed.
Didn't post signature as IT IS REAL FOR SURE.

All 4 books for $200 including shipping to anywhere in NORTH America.
I will consider overseas but I only ship boxed insured with tracking so shipping to some countries will be too sick.

Look at the pictures and questions welcome.

Paypal only ....PM me ASAP as if no one cares immediately to ebay they go.
Thanks

There is 5 UK 1/1 brand new copies of Liseys Story at a local book store here and they are priced at $11.99. I can pick one up for anyone who collects UK 1/1's
Unfortunately, I'm in Canada so to ship properly it will cost $14 to US. Slightly less in Canada. Shipping on additional books is only $5 approx though . Still $26 for a brand new copy might be worth it to somebody. I'd be happy to pick one up for anyone who might be interested.
I also found 1/1 copies of Danse Macabre and Pet Semetary. Both have a bump to a corner but will sell for reasonable price ($30 each?) if anyone is interested. PM me.

I have 2 tickets for sale to the UTD tour in Sarasota Florida on Nov 16th for sale for $60 shipped.

I purchased them as a gift for a friend. The tickets includes 1 voucher for a signed book. Just my bad luck that they forgot to include the voucher with the tickets when they mailed them to me. The manager I talked to refuses to resend them out to me and I am told will be in will-call for pick up when they show their tickets. So as it is, i am not gifting it my friend and selling them without the guarantee of the voucher in hand. Tickets are for Seat numbers Row 16 #25 and row 16 #26. Thanks.

I still really love the Viking reissues. I bought them all back when they came out, before I really started collecting (therefore, I had no clue about stuff like 1st editions and # lines and such). GREAT KING and HILL COLLECTION TO BE SOLD

Well, I think the time has finally come. I have reached a point in my collection where anything I buy to add to it is going to be ridiculously expensive. Plus the wife and I are looking to adopt and that costs a real pretty penny. I look at my books now and they look like a monument to my selfishness. I am 95% sure I want to try to sell it all but want to sleep one more night on it.

If I do, I will give everyone here a week or so of first dibs. I will post a list by the end of this week, but to give you a rough idea, I have everything except (note I collect US versions only, with the exception of Colorado Kid – no UKs): My Pretty Pony Stainless Steel, The Plant 1-3,FireStarter Asbestos in the S/L, and DT 1-3 in the S/L.

I have matching #60 in DT 4-7, LSOE. I have Lettered Buick 8, Dolan’s, Green Mile, Regulators, Skeleton Crew, and Talisman (not PC/ publisher’s copy) in addition to their S/L and gift editions, if they had one. If I did not list a Lettered I don’t have it (but I do have the S/L). I have the Colorado Kid in all states, but two of the traycase are PC’s, the only ones in my collection (that are UK or PC).

I have all of the trade firsts (including F or NF copies of the early Doubledays). I have almost every state of the US proofs, you can look and see what I don’t have under a posting on SK proofs I made maybe 2 months ago, or it might have been in “items wanted”. I bought that recent tall Night Shift proof on Ebay (it does have some soiling on the covers but is not in near as bad a shape as was discussed on this site), along with Ned Dameron’s manuscript copy of The Wastelands. I had a cool wooden traycase made for that.

I want to be clear this is not going to be a fire sale; I will try to get what I paid for them at least. Some will be great deals because that’s what I got. Some I bought more recently will reflect more recent pricing. I will ship worldwide and insure at actual costs. Initially, at least, I want to avoid PayPal if at all possible, but we can talk about that.

…and no magazines. It’s a great collection of US firsts, limiteds, and proofs.

I have a great Joe Hill collection too, all of his Lettereds (a “B” HSB), 20th Century Ghosts in the slipcase, several mags with first appearances of stories, all the chapbooks. Do not yet have in hand the Lettered Locke and Key from SubT Press, but I will get them in matching letters.

I am going to post this in 4 places: Intriguing Sales, Collectible Classifieds, and 2 Joe Hill threads. The managers may move or delete some if they don’t like me doing that, no problem. I will post the lists in Collectible Classifieds only, OK?

What you folks don’t take either goes to Ebay or consignment, I have to crunch some numbers before I decide. Sorry for the long post, but a lot of this stuff will interest you guys.

Last thing: remember I reserve the right to wake up tomorrow, and use the late, great Gilda Radner’s line: “never mind.”

OK here we go, I am going to post everything I’m selling in 4 parts:
1. SK first trade editions
2. SK US proofs/ARCs
3. SK Limited Editions
4. Joe Hill Collection
Just so you know, my name is Kyle Cooke, O.D. I am an optometrist living in Mansfield, TX. I own my own business – Mansfield Vision Center – which you can visit at www.mansfieldvision.com. This is not a plug for the business, it is simply meant to reassure you that you can confirm my identity. You can “google” me. You can contact Stu at Betts and he will tell you he has sold me a lot of these. John Hanic and I have talked a lot (he encouraged me to join TDT). I simply want to give the real fans and collectors first crack at these, before dealing with perhaps Ebay (and yes, the associated extra fees).
Some are deals and some you will think are overpriced (that probably means that I overpaid). To start, the prices are firm. I am not selling for a quick buck; I would like to recoup my investment (or come close). I would like to avoid PayPal if at all possible – I realize on some of the higher-end stuff that may not be possible, you may need to use a credit card. We can discuss it.
Shipping and insurance at cost; I may add no more than a dollar or two for packing materials. I will pack well – and I mean OCD well. Standard refund policy: seven days after you get the book(s), any reason, including if you disagree with how I graded the book. Shipping costs not refundable and you pay shipping back to me if you return it.
Pictures of anything available by request.

You can Email me at kacod@sbcglobal.net.

I will not update these lists here unless OK’ed or asked by the moderators, again because of length. That would be just plain rude. But I am happy to email you updated lists (they are in Word form).
I hope you find something you like.

All in Brodart Archival Covers - Pictures available by request
Grades are book/dj

EDIT: OK, I will take PayPal BUT I ask that you pay their fee, using a flat 3%. So, add 3% if you want to use PayPal. If you are willing to wait a little longer, check or money order is the way to go. Also my Email is kacod@sbcglobal.net.

I am willing to do Media Mail but can not get across town to the post office every day, so that could delay things. I have a UPS Store three doors down. They can quote 3-Day Ground up to overnight, and do regular USPS also. I choose the cheapest in every case (unless you tell me otherwise), and shipping is AT ACTUAL COST. Insurance is required.

... I will not update these lists here unless OK’ed or asked by the moderators, again because of length. That would be just plain rude. ...

Hi Kyle, Thanks for your consideration in not reposting the lists, however Eric's suggestion is a very good one. You can go into your original listing posts and edit as many times as you like to cross items off the lists as they sell. That will make things much simpler for you and for other members as they view the lists and can see what is remaining available.

Good luck!

I have a ticket I no longer need for the NYC TimesTalk event on Nov. 10.

I'd rather trade something for it than sell it, so pm me any offers. I'm not looking for anything specific, so I'm willing to consider all offers. Even if you aren't interested in going to the event, feel free to throw it up on eBay yourself (I'm pretty sure you could get at least $75 for it, probably more). I'd only ask that the trade be of pretty much equal value. Thanks. :)

Eric, tippy, Patrick:

Totally not my business, but the way you talk about shipping prices in your Ebay listings are a lot of extra words that sort of confuse the issue on a $4,000 listing...You're drawing way too much attention to trying to grind out an extra $30 or $40, and away from the actual uniqueness of the items...

But...they are out of my price point anyway, so...

This may be a good time to remind sellers that they can install the click-thru eBay logo in their member info - as seen around here, such as in Eric's post there just above Rahfa's.

Look in your User CP. You simply put in your eBay user id after scrolling down one of the input pages.
