After some thought, I plan to cancel my preorder for the Signed and Traycased Edition of Stephen King's The Dark Man unless a member wants it? Perhaps Brian @ CD can work some magic to transfer it to an interested forum member...otherwise it would just hit the waiting list.

You're also right about the pricing. I believe two sets solds for $15k each last year and that was before ADWD was released.

Sadly that is way above my pay grade!

I'd also like to see some of the artwork and possibly pricing.

I hate to even consider it, but I'm strongly thinking about parting with my lettered set. The set is in perfect shape and all letters match. Of course I have the rights to all future volumes from Subterranean Press. All extras would be included (signed bookmark set and art booklet).

In addition, I have multiple original pieces of art that were used in the book from Storm of Swords, Feast for Crows and Dance with Dragons. Some are very large. Again, all in perfect condition.

This is what we are offering you:

Lifetime Membership: $500.
We will offer this once a year, for a maximum of ten years. Depending on how we are doing, the price might or might not change.
With your Lifetime Membership, that will include all editions of everything we produce, with the exception of Lettered Editions if and when we produce them.
As of right now, it will include the Trade Edition and Signed, Limited Hardcover Edition of In Mint Condition: 2013, it will include a dustjacket a month from the Ambannon Books Stephen King Collection when we start producing them, and it will include the Trade Edition and Signed, Limited Hardcover Edition of In Mint Condition: 2014 next year.
Future projects will be included, of course, except for the Lettered Editions like I stated above. When we start getting popular authors --a Stephen King, a Justin Cronin, an Anne Rice-- we plan on doing Signed, Limited Editions with them as well. These will be included. If the dustjacket project takes off and we end up producing every Stephen King title, you will easily be getting your money's worth.
If you live in the Continental US, shipping will be included. If you live outside the Continental US, shipping will not be included.
The Membership is transferable. Tired of our books? Sell the membership. The same rules will apply to the person who purchases it from you. All it is is an address change for us, no big deal.

No, you're probably right, Shannon. I purposely don't price though and invite offers instead namely because of my failings as a collector which consist of a lack of focus within the actual collection (You know that one well since you shared it with me. :P Did you manage to get King under glass before you sold? Is he on offer? LOL Seriously, best of luck with your sale, friend!), a complete inability to judge 95% of signatures without help, and the two that are pertinent here...I'm not comfortable at grading books (I'll accurately describe anything wrong, but never sure of where exactly to grade it basically. I'd rather tell you there is this specific fault than try to decide whether it's fine or near fine and the like AND I am completely disorganized meaning I don't keep info in any sort of program...I operate on memory (which sucks) so I don't really know values (some things I remember what I paid; some I don't). I'd prefer someone to name a price and if it seems reasonable we'll roll with it. ..or somewhere roundabout there. With that said if someone said a price that seemed too high I couldn't accept anymore than if it seemed too low. To me it doesn't seem that different than bidding on a book in an auction in that you make an offer as the buyer. Some may disagree. I can understand that and that's fine if someone doesn't want to do that.

I received a box from Ned Dameron this weekend...in it was one of the oldest images of Oy in existence.

He was going through his storage area, and stumbled across this while looking for something else.

This was a piece he did when preparing to make the illustrations for The Waste Lands.

The piece measures 8-1/2" x 11".

Wow! That's pretty crazy for $275 or $399 for the ARCs (or for even $200). Looks like CD wasn't too happy about it though LOL! I got one from them that we did a review of for this next issue of DD. Very tempting to offer it up at those prices! (I won't though, but at some point it may have to go as I still get a bunch of unsolicited ARCs for Dark Discoveries all of the time and they do stack up!!!)

Are they ever supposed to be sold prior to publication? Seems like a lot of people do, but they are review copies made up for that purpose and promotion. I imagine the publishers don't care too much as long as the reviews are done first (being a publisher of a few books myself I have seen ARCs I made show up on the secondary market. Oh well, what can you do). Technically they are like promos for CDs and LPs, etc. that the company can ask for back (although they don't often do that at least that I have ever seen).

What does everybody else think here? Obviously there are a limited number of these produced and sometimes the lowest number of a title done so collectible to some folks. Some publishers like CD even do grab bag/deals where they give away or sell these proofs.

Wow! That's pretty crazy for $275 or $399 for the ARCs (or for even $200). Looks like CD wasn't too happy about it though LOL! I got one from them that we did a review of for this next issue of DD. Very tempting to offer it up at those prices! (I won't though, but at some point it may have to go as I still get a bunch of unsolicited ARCs for Dark Discoveries all of the time and they do stack up!!!)

Are they ever supposed to be sold prior to publication? Seems like a lot of people do, but they are review copies made up for that purpose and promotion. I imagine the publishers don't care too much as long as the reviews are done first (being a publisher of a few books myself I have seen ARCs I made show up on the secondary market. Oh well, what can you do). Technically they are like promos for CDs and LPs, etc. that the company can ask for back (although they don't often do that at least that I have ever seen).

What does everybody else think here? Obviously there are a limited number of these produced and sometimes the lowest number of a title done so collectible to some folks. Some publishers like CD even do grab bag/deals where they give away or sell these proofs.

James, most ARCs/proofs state that they are not to be sold. After the book is published, however, the publishers don't seem to care. It's only when the volumes are up for sale pre-publication that sends up the red flags.

It's a nice book, and great story - I have the first 2 subpress volumes (thats actually how I was introduced to Simon and then eventually this forum - what a costly mistake). If you have not read Locke and Key - you can p/u the 5 HC volumes pretty cheaply - I got all 5 in one ebay auction for a little over $50 if memory serves me correctly. Heck there is one now that ends in 2 days at $60 (retail is $25 per book):

Hi friends!

I'm not at all quitting collecting however things are tight enough that I can't justify keeping my collection at this point. Bills are coming up soonish and I'm still not working. I'm not prepared to list everything at once so if there is something that you want that you know I have or see in my collection thread drop me a line and we'll talk about it. There are some items that I won't sell at all or yet, but not alot. Mostly it's stuff that were gifts. I am a sentimental bitch. LOL There are a couple things to be noted though the first being that I do smoke, but I'm doing what I can to get rid of any smoke smell there might be. Also I have no bank account connected to my paypal right now (effectively meaning I have no paypal) so if you're not comfortable with check or money order I really am not sure what other options there are. Still we can talk and try to sort isomething out if possible. A friend will be listing stuff for me on ebay soon too. When I'm back working I'll be starting up again even if it's from scratch. :)

Edit: I'm emptying my PMs now...shocking isn't it. :lol:

And my Knowing Darkness might end up for sale too. I have the traycased s/l w/ original Whelan drawing (1/ anywhere between 10-50 by varying opinions). That one might be going to ebay though unless I heard a good offer. It won't go at any sort of fire sale price.
