Through a fault of my own the dj may have gotten messed up - which is fine I accept its my fault due to the limited packaging I had available

If you don't have acceptable packaging material, then do not advertise items for sale.

As a buyer, I would rather wait a day or two extra and have my item properly packaged instead of receiving it promptly and damaged.

And for the record, I have NEVER paid for packaging materials. Good cardboard boxes, bubble-wrap, and foam peanuts are easily found for free.

I've even had old newspapers used as packing.

I always keep packing material from purchases and have never had to pay for packaging materials (well except for a box that is the correct size)

I may have mentioned this story before, but I remember I used a box I had received from a member here, to send a book to another member here, and I discovered the address i was about to send it to was already on the box from a previous transaction!

I have to find new homes for my excess King books, as they are currently taking up valuable baby supply space. I've already "passed on" two huge boxes to one of my students, a budding King collector. These are my duplicate books, some are first edition others are not... I haven't had a chance to look at all of them yet. If you have questions or would like photos, please let me know! (Bill, if any of these can be used for the auction, tell me and I'll ship them to you!) I'm hoping to move them quickly!

The Dark Half 1st edition Viking HC
Dreamcatcher 1st edition Scribner HC
Eyes of the Dragon 1st edition Viking HC (cover worn, slight fading)
Four Past Midnight 1st edition Viking HC
Four Past Midnight 1st edition Viking HC (to: Randy Love: Mother xmas 1990, dust jacket price clipped)
The Green Mile 6 first printing
Insomnia HC (1st? not sure yet!)
Needful Things 1st edition Viking HC
Needful Things 1st edition Viking HC
Nightmares & Dreamscapes HC (1st? not sure yet!)
Skeleton Crew HC (1st? not sure yet!)
The Stand: Complete & Uncut HC (1st? not sure yet!)
The Talisman 1st edition Viking HC
The Tommyknockers HC (1st? not sure yet!)

Cool, a fantastic Chaddy Penny, and it should fetch a good price for you mate (fingers crossed and all) ...

Now, I can't be the only one here that appreciates a good clown job, right ????

There must be some other fans out here that know a great opportunity at a fantastic price when it sinks it's evil clown teeth into your furry arse, yeah ????

And, it helps a brother-in-TDT out

A word of warning guys ... it appears that I'm getting a reputation as by an IT-OGAMIST .. thus ... if you want a different clown to the clowns that have gone before ... jump on it before .....

someone else does .....

Good to hear. I think he spent 95% of his time trying to sell and buy stuff (and getting in trouble doing so) instead of engaging in conversations and being part of this community, so I don't think he will be missed. This sounds a little sad - I do wish him the best in 'real life'.

feel bad about Langoleer, But i would have to agree on a lot of what was said.
everyone gave him a LOT of chances. I got stiffed for $50 by him if it helps anyone feel better about his being banned. I do hope he matures a bit and comes back all grown up:)

Langoleer was self banned. He sent a PM asking that his account be deleted. We don't usually delete legitimate accounts as it erases the person's posts. Banning him was the simple way to grant his request.

I noticed the stand s/l are steadily creeping up. a fine/fine is now near 2k. i dont think they will be coming back down until the next market crash either. if you find one for under $1800 in fine condition its under the current going rate i would say. I just sold my extra copy with damaged box for almost $1800 2 months ago. I will keep my eyes open for you.

I was thinking the same thing about a market crash, and I expect that will be happening this coming week unless every politician in Washington suddenly decides to pull his head out of his ass. I think its going to be bad. Hope not, but think it will. If things happen like they did in '09, book prices will drop again. There's a couple out there on Abe and such, but all pricy.

Selling some stuff for a friend. We're going to put them on eBay but I wanted to try them out here first and see if anyone was interested.

Playboy Magazines, great condition, complete years 1992 to 2007. Will only sell the year together, not individually, sorry. Not expecting anything crazy on price.

EDIT: The pages do not stick together. ;)

I also feel it unusual for someone who has gained a highly discussed REPUTATION ...to return using a different name, especially when they introduce themself saying;
"Hey guys I'm sorta new here but I'm selling off the collection because its time to do so." Posted by Kingfan24 .

I am not sure about how moderators of the site can react or modify names or titles however if possible it might be advantagious if there was some way to ammend his new name to be connected to his REPUTATION in some way more than a brief acknowledgement at the bottom of one post! > Caveat emptor ! <

That's exactly what I thought was so odd. To first say that he was new to the forum, and then admit in the same post that he's the same guy who had already banned himself because of past problems, is just a bad warning sign. There are a few books he has that I do not, but honestly, there's just been far too many red flags that it's not worth the headaches.

biomieg

...and then admit in the same post that he's the same guy who had already banned himself because of past problems...

And remember, he did NOT mention this in his original post - he added this at a later stage even though the 'edit' statement at the bottom of his post only mentions adding the Different Seasons 1/1.

Shannon
01-06-2013, 01:28 PM
All of this has crossed my mind. From the "I'm sorta new here" intro in the original message, to the getting CAUGHT by Jerome and being told to announce who he really is in the message, to actually editing the message and announcing who he is yet saying that he only edited the message to "add different seasons" ... It's all tricky.

But what gets me is this ...

When Jerome quoted the message at 12:10, Different Seasons was already included in his list.

So, why would he edit the message at 12:47 to say he was just including Different Seasons, when the real reason was so that he could reveal who he was?

To make it seem like it was there all along. He wasn't going to tell us who he was, and this is all a trick. I guessed back in the day that he would somehow do some big damage here. Not just waste people's times and/or ship things horribly, but REALLY do some damage. This was it, this has to be it. Put some decently-priced items up for sale, take the money and run.

Crow-Man, publically and privately, PLEASE ban this guy. If you can ban his IP address, even better. If not, we'll just have to keep a close eye on this guy. He is trouble.

I could post a poll and see if members want to ban him (but that seems too much like a "Lord of the Flies" thing).
The reason I let the things happen the way they did is that I believe our members here are pretty sharp. Once I figured out he was/is TheLangoleer, I quoted his original message for posterity.
I then confronted him via PM and told him that he must disclose that he was formerly the (self-banned) TheLangoleer. I felt he was sneaky to edit his first post to retroactively (but subtly) disclose who he was/is.
I could have simply banned him after his first post (actually back in December when he registered), but think that publicly he can either redeem himself, or hang himself.

Langoleer: Maybe you could reverse the norm when selling, and send out books before payment? Then if books arrive, as described, the trustworthy collective here would send you the funds they agreed to.

Of course I have no doubt this would not happen for a variety of reasons, but just highlighting the apprehension you would have considering that idea would be the same a lot of members here have when considering purchasing from you.

RF: after imposing a ban (self requested or otherwise), does your system allow that username to be reinstated? Just curious why he shouldn't just use the initial profile?

I agree 100%.

I would never buy from him because I've seen his shadiness, weird behaviors, bad communication, and other members reports of really bad shipping measures. Others may not know better...

And if anyone does purchase from him, DO NOT USE PAYPAL GIFT. You can not file a claim against any transaction in which Paypal Gift was used to pay for an item.

Yes a member can be reinstated. It is rare but has happened. The member has to contact a Director (which they can not do using the banned name) and request to be reinstated.

I also agree that it would certainly re-establish good reputation if he sent books COD, but it would surprise me.

Trying to sell your collection under one name, then banning yourself when you were called out by members, then coming back under a different name claiming to be "fairly new here" and not disclosing who you are until told to do so is pretty shady behavior and would be classified as deceptive.
I think you've burned the bridge here and should move on

Ouch, harsh words. Comments to the effect of 'go away' or 'you're not wanted here' are not completely fair in my humble opinion. Several documented instances of very bad packaging and backing out of agreed upon deals with terrible communication have happened to trusted members, but to my knowledge - no one has been outright ripped off?

It is possibly suspect to come back with a new ID, but simple embarrassment explains that as well. Selling off your collection after you were flogged on a Stephen King forum (justified or not) might make me consider giving up collecting as well. For the many folks that already said so, it is excellent advice to be extremely cautious in purchases based on member experiences. I'd buy a book only with the book sent first in this situation, but I do not begrudge him selling here - I can buy or not buy based on my own judgment (definitely no PayPal gift).

As far as I know, he hasn't ripped anyone off, but I don't know everyone's situation and I have a bad memory, lol. But it's headed in that direction. My mentality is "Why bother?" with this guy? He brings nothing positive to the community. Why risk it? Why risk having a member of our community send him money? You said yourself "definitely no PayPal gift". Why even bother having those reservations?

Randall Flagg
01-07-2013, 05:37 PM
I can buy or not buy based on my own judgment (definitely no PayPal gift).
One of the reasons he wasn't instantly banned was that I believe our members here are pretty astute. Certainly he could post his books on ebay and he would pay the auction and paypal fees and likely a buyer would have better protection in a dispute than if it were purchased via our site-and certainly with the PP gift option. Yet our community has generally worked very well to facillitate buyers and sellers getting the best value since fees are bypassed. The risk here is predomianely to the buyers pocketbook, or to the sellers reputation.
That may be the price of a better deal.

All I can say in my defense is there was one bad instance of packaging. Merlin and penny only had positive things to say.

It's true. I can honestly say I have never had an issue with the man transaction wise!! I have purchased two or three items from him with no issue whatsoever.

Now you try to make it sound as if there was only one incident. That's simply not true! There were at least five members (including me) who had issues with you. You can't keep recycling two or three positive transactions in your defense. Why not list your books on eBay and be done with it? Because this is just going to end up in long, drawn-out discussions again.

mcdonaldj: The Langoleer was already trying to sell all his stuff on here before he was banned. It's not like he decided to quit collecting because we hurt his feelings.

I also paid him in advance for a book a while back and received said book with no issues whatsoever.

FWIW, I fully supported Jerome's decision to let the self-banned member post his sale as long as he made it clear publicly that we all already know him under another screenname.

I was wondering, does anyone have a copy of Michael Whelan's "Gunslinger '88" print for sale? And since i'm guessing the answer is no, does anyone have any estimates on what I might expect to have to pay for one if it does ever surface? Thanks for any responses!

Gunslinger 88 never really existed as a painting, so I'm not sure there are prints, are there? It was a composite produced by the publisher.

It's funny, I was doubting myself that there were ever prints, even though I saw one in person. It was at whatever the King bookstore near tampa FL was (like 15 years ago). I was on spring break and stopped there and saw it and like an idiot didn't buy it because I wasn't sure how I'd get it home on the plane. It was shrinkwrapped flat on a foam backer if I remember correctly. I have NEVER seen one since then so I sort of figured it was a promo or I misremembered or something but when I found this site yesterday I saw a picture of oy-the-brave's collection who had it hanging.

It's listed on this page on Whelan's site (http://www.michaelwhelan.com/gallery/illustration/dark-tower/) but the accompanying text says:

Michael was asked to do a cover for the trade paperback edition of THE DARK TOWER: THE GUNSLINGER. He had done the dustjacket and all the interior illustrations for the limited edition version, but this was the first mass-market edition of this special series by Stephen King. He made the background a peculiar mustardy color to reflect the dusty, oppresive feeling of the book and put the shadow of the Dark Tower looming over Roland's shoulder. The art director changed the design of the cover and sent the painting to a retouch lab to take out the enitre background and replace it with the sky from Michael's GUNSLINGER ON THE BEACH painting. So although the new cover is all Whelan art, there is no such painting in existence.

I don't see it listed among his print offerings.

Thanks a lot guys! Explorer....does that look like what you have? Based on comparing the sizes in Oy's photo I'm guessing it's around 18"x24". Apparently signed and numbered out of 395 copies, although even if you have some other non-limited print with that image I might be interested. Feel free to drop me a PM with any further info or just post in this thread.

Also, anyone have a new email address to contact Grant Publishing? The link on their site still shows Karen F's address and the link is dead...

I would be shocked if Grant books had a case they are willing to part with, but they certainly aren't going to come knocking on your door, so it doesn't hurt to try.

Mine is numbered 22/100, signed in gold ink by Mr. Whelan.

Purchased framed from Bett's back when Stu was the caretaker.
First for sale I had seen, and haven't seen one since.

Actually I have become soft. I think I used to be much meaner.
erxbooks, we have a community here that is unlike any other. Significant transactions (IE expensive) are conducted with no protection that ebay/paypal offers for their online auctions, and charges a hefty fee for. Books here are usually a better deal for the seller and buyer as there are no fees (paypal gift option-which I see going away; paypal will catch on).
Don't mean to hurt your feelings, this is the standard caveat emptor when a relatively new person comes to sell here.:couple:

Well I had to check out your amazon site - and personally some of the books I checked (quick search for gaiman and hill) are WAY overpriced - a simple search can find several of the books I searched (at least 5) for more than half of what you had listed (I know cause I just bought a few) - if you are having trouble moving some books this could be why. Heck if I just compare prices with camelot there's a huge difference - just take the compilation thackery lambshead pocket guide - you have it for $199 and you can still buy it at camelot for $45...just saying

erxbooks, you'll see with time (and getting to know everyone here) that you'll receive great information, have meaningful conversations, receive much assistance, and get honest (sometimes brutally so!) feedback. The really good thing is that you'll get it all from multiple people with all different points of view, it won't all be one-sided (believe me, not a day goes by where folks don't agree on one thing or another ... often quite pointedly). Take the time to learn who's who, who knows what, who does what, etc., so that you can assign the proper weight to the comments. We are all here voluntarily, we're all at different levels of collecting, and we all have a common love of the works of Stephen King, that's the bottom line. If someone opines that your prices are too high, take that feedback and do what you wish with it ... they're your items, your decision. But also realize that the feedback may be spot on, and if you hear it from lots of folks, there's probably something to it. I personally haven't checked you out on Amazon or eBay yet, but if I did and saw that you were way overpriced when compared to others, well you just wouldn't get my business ... easy enough. I don't think anybody here minds paying a premium for a great copy of a book, but nobody wants to overpay ... that's why we comparison shop and do lots of business in the Collectible Classifieds rather than eBay, because there's a level of trust among members. If you're priced well, your items will sell .. if they're not, they won't ... Business 101. Sell fairly and you'll earn a great reputation, don't and you won't. Again, Business 101.

Sorry, I'm rambling, past my bedtime. WELCOME to the boards, I look forward to 'meeting' you!

George at C Springs is spot on and the 5 prior posts are typical of the experience you'll find here exrbooks.
I can't say I know or have conducted a business transaction with you however I do recognize an item you have for sale.
I remember seeing Waste Lands #912 for sale on EBay and was hoping there was a typo and actually #219 (which I want/need).
You were quick, polite and responsive to my question. Thanks.
I'll say that is more typical of the sellers preferred to deal with than ones we tend to avoid.

Very unique to have the remarque on the matting!!! Nice, Tom!!!

Actually I'm pretty sure that being technical that is what a remarque truly is.

Well yeah, I just meant that she also/normally does.....

Oh forget it. You're right!!!!!

Can I claim to be "Confused" or is this just an "Oops" post? LOL

Hey, friends!

I'm using my real name on this site. On thedarktower.net I was "Song of ka". I see A LOT of familiar faces here! RF, Wizard's Rainbow, Calla Wolf...etc... doesn't jog your memory yet? I participated in the give-aways, and was the first to give away a book signed by Stephen King. It happened to be a paper-back copy of Carrie. Remember me now? Wow! That was a few years ago! Time does fly.

Anyway I'm very happy to be back in good company again. = ) I look forward to catching up with everyone soon.

That said, I would like to remind everyone that I still have the following books available if anyone is interested. I've also added a few to the list. If anyone has any questions regarding my reputation--please forgive me for doing this Dave--please contact Wizard's Rainbow, as I have done business with him in the past.

Financial times are tough on my family right now and I'm having to sell a few books to scrape by. All prices are in U.S. dollars. So, without further ado:

#1: Wizard & Glass 1st US edition, Grant Books. F/F <--which is rare for this book. $150
#2: The Grant Books Artist edition of Wolves of The Calla: $125 F/F Condition
#3: The Grant Books Artist edition of Song of Susannah: $100 F/F Condition
#4: The Grant Books Artist edition of The Dark Tower: $125 F/F Condition
#5: The Grant Books Artist edition of The Little Sisters of Eluria: $100 F/F Condition
#6: Horns by Joe Hill, Signed Numbered Limited Slip-Cased edition from PS Publishing with extra content. $120 F/F Condition

**I also have the following books for sale as well**

**POST EDITED DUE TO SALES***

Signed, numbered, limited edition of The Dark Tower 5: Wolves of The Calla. Grant Books, signed by King and Wrightson, Grant Books F/F Condition $500 SOLD!
Signed, numbered, limited edition of The dark Tower 6: SOS. Grant Books, signed by King and Anderson, Grant Books F/F Condition $500 SOLD!

All books are in archival-quality zip-lock bags made by Brodart, and stored in a climate controlled closet. Yes, great care has been given to these treasures. I would have to get them out and check the numbers, but if I remember correctly, they are number 1247. Please PM me if you need the exact number.

Please PM me if you are interested. My family deeply appreciates any interest you may have.

Thanks!

Ben

Sorry to see you have to sell those books. Hope things get better soon!

SGC, pm'd you last night for a package deal. I'm itching to spend money this morning still, so it wasn't the Doritos and M&M's while I was rewatching Let Me In again...hehe! (On a side note, I like the movie a lot and nobody really has seen it. Just kind of sticks with you after you are done... the kind I like!)

EDIT: Thanks for the GREAT deal! My bookshelf is ready for my new "precious's". :)

Given the choice between keeping one inscribed to someone else, and one obtained in-person (even if it is an ugly Sharpie signature....I am going with the one I obtained in person.

If I had to choose I would do the same.

Hey, Ari! I remember you as well!

Regarding the Carrie give-away, it went to Rocky Wood and he is now the president of the HWA! Small world, huh?

Me too, bro. I hate to part with these but I don't have a choice. I deeply appreciate your kind words, man. Even if just one sells, that would help out greatly.

I also have some Gunslinger jackets for sale if anyone is interested. I have 2 1st editions and 2 2nd editions. They are used jackets, in only maybe very good to good shape, one of the 2nds is price clipped.
If you have a book with no jacket, it would certainly help or if you have a completely messed up, missing chunks of paper jacket these would be better.
I have pics available, just email me at rrdunaway@msn.com and i can send you the pics.

I have some items that I'm thinking I should sell to make room for some of my new things I bought yesterday. Make a fair offer and you can have one of these fine books in your case! :)

Great Ghost Stories Lettered Version -limited to just 52 copies (sold out pre-pub at original $500 I think) and a very few PC copies - This is a PC copy - NF condition or better-***From Cemetery Dance website: Published in two states: • Clothbound Trade Hardcover Edition ...• Leatherbound Lettered Hardcover Edition in a handmade custom gorgeous red traycase, limited to 52 copies signed by ten of the contributors: Stephen King, Stephen Jones, Sydney J. Bounds, Ramsey Campbell, Garry Kilworth, Brian Lumley, Tina Rath, Tony Richards, Steve Rasnic Tem, and Les Edwards"

Dark Dreamers - signed by 11 different contributors (very big names including King) - Comes with Traycase too - Both NF condition or better. Deluxe Limited Edition 1 of 350 signed copies, this is #283. Black Leather and quarter-bound with black marker ribbon and hand-marbled papers from France, gilt edged pages, with gilt lettered spine, spine casing features two true hubs and protective capcords at head and foot, and accompanied by a handmade tray case, lined with velour and cased with black leather and red silk cloth from Germany. (got description from Abebooks. hehe!)

Night Visions 5 - Limited to 850 I believe. - This is #736 - signed by contributors (Stephen King, Dan Simmons and George R.R. Martin, etc...)

Also have at least 1 1st/1st Gunslinger for sale. I'd say VG+ condition on the book (just one kind of rubbed spot on the edge of the book) and VG on the DJ since there is are two small tears on it, but the mylar cover really makes them go away for the most part. Probably want at least $650 or not sure if I'd sell it. Not sure what they are going for on Ebay right now, but can check.

Have at least 1 or 2 Under the Dome UK S/L and probably at least 1 Under the Dome US S/L (need to see what I'm into them for)

If anyone has any interest in Joe Hill's first book (chapbook) Better Than Home 1st/1st then I have one for sale. I think I paid $150 though, so not sure if I would sell for less....even if I got ripped off. hehe!

I think other people would rate them higher b/c I call PERFECT = Like New..... vs Fine = I don't see anything, but not perfect.....vs NF = I don't really see anything except very tiny something or other..rubbing, tiny mark, etc.... vs VG+ = a few tiny rips in DJ or maybe rubbing on the book itself due to age.

I can take pics if someone is interested in any of them. (really they are basically Fine except the Gunslinger). If no interest, then I'm going to need move some Piers Anthony, Edgar Rice Burroughs, John Norman, etc... or buy more bookcases....grrrr!!!! :)

I've decided that collecting King-Signed Limited editions just isn't a good idea for the next 17 years or so, lol. Once Rose is out of the house, then I'll resume collecting the expensive stuff, lol. So, without further ado, things for sale:

Christine #608/1,000: Very minor stain on last page of text and first white page in rear. Slipcase has minor rubbing on bottom. Minor edge and cornerwear on dustacket, emphasized slightly on the spine.

Danse Macabre #117/250: Small pencil writing on first white page, missing glassine wrapper.

Dark Dreamers #152/350: Near perfect. SOLD!

Insomnia #981/1,250: Near perfect. Printing error on two pages front and back. Looks like a very minor paper jam. Not noticeable from the outside.

Quietly Now #155/500: Near perfect.

Skeleton Crew #49/1,000: Includes a three-page press release from Jeff Connor. Small ding/scratch on slipcase. Top of dustjacket on spine has very minor bunches.

The Dark Tower I: The Gunslinger audio tapes #640/800: Minor edge and corner wear.

The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower #1,496/1,500: Corner crease on limitation page.

The Ideal, Genuine Man #294/500: Near perfect.

The Very Best Of Best New Horror #161/200: Near perfect. Extra error dustjacket included.

Under The Dome #Unnumbered as issued/1,500: Near perfect, cards still new in shrinkwrap.

Please PM me for pictures and offers. Offers should be reasonable; think Bett's.

In 17 years I will be almost 80 years old. I predict I will still be looking for an oblong Carrie proof, a copy of "People, Places and Things" and "The Star Invaders." And those Maine Summer Campus newspapers with "Slade" serialized. I suspect Shannon will still have me to deal with. Probably just us two, though.

You will be dealing with kids who take their parents collections and sell them at garage sales, or to whoever offers them $50 first!
