Tell me about it - the previous owner was an idiot

Skcollector (Tomas) gave me a valuation of 150-250 just because of the sheer rarity of the book

Did Chadbourne do random remarques for FDNS GE or was yours done elsewhere?

???????? Don't quite get what you're going for here. If Glenn remarqued it he drew it. Glenn will do just about anything for the right price. He's extremely prolific. I once sent him books (FDNS/SOD VolI) he received on Tuesday and they were sent out on Wednesday!!!! The man is a machine!!! They were great pictures as well.

Actually, I think I recall that for FDNS he did a few at the request of CD, but yeah, all you have to do is email him and then send him the book and payment. He's a great guy!!! Donated a few things to this year's fund raiser!!! Super-cool guy!!

I've got a copy of the UK S/L The Wind Through the Keyhole on the way to me. One of 200 with the real signature (not the facsimile). I'll accept offers via PM until the book arrives, then ship it to the highest offer. Any amount over my cost I will split 60/40 with the Haven foundation (Haven getting the 60).

If the book arrives to me beat up in transit (Waterstones, sigh) I'll of course let you know and there will be no obligation.

SOLD!

Yes! About a week or so ago, I finished the first book. Now I'm about a quarter way through the second book. Freakin' awesome! There's a thread here in the Dutch Hill forum dedicated to the series, but I don't go in there for fear of spoilers. (I haven't seen the tv series at all.)

Sorry for taking this thread off-track.

Is this a "Blind" auction or, will you post bids periodically?

divemaster
05-03-2012, 04:01 AM
I had envisioned it as a blind auction--the person who makes the best offer gets it. No sniping, no goading one person against another to bid the thing up. Just name what you are willing to pay and let the chips fall where they may. But I'm not a seller. I think this is only the second time in the last 5 years I've sold anything so I'm not sure if this is the best approach.

Since my last posting I've received three additional offers. I guess I'll mention that the high offer so far is $375, assuming the book is F/F. I really hope it is. I'll pick it up from the Post Office on Saturday and will know for sure if it survived the shipping okay. I only planned on opening it to check the number, in case it was a special request number (I know there are people looking for #157 and #196 and I'd like to hook them up if possible).

EDIT: Book sold! (it was #180)

$440 plus $10 shipping for both books (shipping goes to Haven per the Director). You pay when the WH Smith book arrives via paypal gift. PM me before I change my mind!

Fever's Broken

Hey guys, well - after much thought and consideration... I've pretty much decided to start pursuing other interests.
truthfully, I started losing interest with the simon and schuster multiple limited edition marketing fiascos... and other issues with some of the specialty publishers.

The final straw was TWTTK - when Grant decided faithful patrons (for many years) that had numbers over 800 weren't good enough customers to print for.
Yes it erked me to no end that I had purchased every DT book from them since DT4 - including multiple trades, artists, original art, other author books, extra dust jackets... plus the limiteds
... yet was left out on TWTTK .
I was offered a publisher copy - at a considerable markup from what the numbers sold for - which I chose to pass on. Not bashing Grant... it is what it is... and it's their business to be run as they see fit - it just rubbed me wrong.

Anyway... It's not just that ... that was just the final straw ... my already diminishing collecting fever just kind of totally vanished after that... not feeling the rush any more.

That said.... I think I've decided to do something I've never done in my 2+ decades of collecting... I'm going to start selling some of my books... not sure what and how many yet.... but it'll be under the ebay name boomme. I'm not desperate for money - so it's not going to be a fire sale... but I will be making some nice goodies available on the auction block soon.

I'm considering my first sale... thinking the huge Roman Numeraled Salem's Lot. I've only seen a couple of these auctioned since they were published - both of them were the black lettered ones (15 available to the public). Mine is a Red numeral (VI) that were reserved for the artist, author and publisher (only 10 of these)...and mine has a brand new never out of the box extra traycase.

Keep in mind - I'm not looking to give anything away... and I've been around for a while... so don't expect the stuff to go for basement prices.... I'll hang on to it until I get a fair price - or not sale it at all.
I'll post here when I put something up for sale... in case any of you are interested.

I'm sitting here with what I imagine are the same sort of feelings. My collection would not in any way come close to what Sir Boome's is, but nevertheless, I think it might be time to move on. My books look nice in my nice bookcase and it's nice to have what I have but my interest is waning. Maybe this is a hiccup but I'm going to give serious thought to selling everything I have...except for a few special items.:cry:

More later.

Pehaps the dual listing could help each others' auctions! I could mention yours in my auction, and you could mention mine.

I was at the same point you are. I had the signed/limited editions of the dark tower books. III-VII and LSOE. sitting next to my grant publications i -vii i was afraid to open them and look at them. I sold them, paid off my car and i dont miss them at all. I then met stephen king and got several 1st editions signed and now i am only collecting 1st editions signed by sk.

dont miss my dark tower books at all!!

I say if you don't need the money give it some time. It'd be better to hang onto them then to sell them and decide later that you wish you hadn't. Be sure or don't sell. :) For me there is too much sentimental value in my collection (what it represents for me and in a lot of cases whom the books came from. In a lot of cases they were just outright gifts.). There are times when I've thought of selling stuff, but the reality is that just is not going to happen...even if I do need the money.

You can always sell them now, and if the "bug" bites you again in the future, you can always rebuild your collection.

Please take into account the fact I am interested in several of your titles, so I may not be the best person to tender advice.

For that very reason, I have deleted two posts I had responding to agrabins plight, same advice, but let me have first dibs at... :-)

Agrabin, if you do decide to sell, please please please keep hold of those that feel special to you, the ones you do reach for first when you are browsing through them.

And as in the case of Sir B, you don't have to give them away, and they may stay on your nice bookshelves a little longer, and your feelings may change.

Hope you keep them.

I think most of us have felt the same at one time or another. I had a decent proof collection (at least, for a noob like me) with some pretty scarce titles and I sold most of them pretty much on a whim because I felt I needed to get some other books instead, and I felt some frustration about proof collecting in general. I do admit that it allowed me to buy stuff like a UK CARRIE 1st but I'm still a bit sad that I let some of those proofs go. I'm rebuilding the proof collection as we speak.

I was also on the verge of selling my pre-CARRIE publications recently because I wanted to help a family member out financially, but I'm glad I didn't need to in the end.

What I do think is that simply allowing the idea of selling to enter your mind, and to truly let the idea of letting go sink in, will give you a new and fresh perspective on your books. You will either look at the collection with renewed interest and freshness or you will sell your stuff and be at peace with it (so it's a win-win situation). But yeah, like the others said, take your time.

If I sell, there are some I will definitely keep. Surprisingly maybe, not necessarily the 'best' or most desirable to others. For example - I bought books from a guy in England some time ago who was a bit strapped for cash. He was great to deal with and I took some that, to be honest, I wasn't really fussed on. One I did get, however was a King signed Desperation Gift Edition in a slipcase. That really is a gorgeous book and one of my favourites. I also feel that I would be letting him down somehow by selling it on.

I think he's just saying that our entire conversation could have and probably should have taken place elsewhere and that this thread should strictly be for buying and selling. We have other threads for discussion. We also have other threads for showing sales by others and this one should be reserved only for a personal sale and posts directly related to that personal sale. I can kinda' see the point and I am guilty my self of setting us off topic. Enough off topic discussion and we might not even see a sale because of it.

I need to make room on the bookshelves and decided that the few UK editions I have Im going to part with. I had thought I would collect all the UK editions as well as the US but I dont have the bookshelf space (nor the funds) to be that much of a completist and would rather focus on signed editions.

I'd consider trading my Waterstones #52/200 TWTTK for a Grants Deluxe under #800. It would seem to be a fairly equal trade to my eye, but would maybe pay a small premium if it's a particularly low numbered copy.

Shinkwrap on mine was only slit to make sure the book signature page was fine, since it was messed up on so many recent S/L's (my UTD & 11/22/63 first copies were both banged up.) Get in touch if this appeals to you and maybe we can negotiate something.

If they were sold, the likelyhood would be just as good as any number. This leads to the big question, were they sold, or kept by the publisher?

All Grant Deluxe TWTTK's are numbered 800 or lower.

Thanks Tippy, I knew that then, and know it now, but I find that I tend to state the obvious in the late night hours when I shouldn't be up. :)

I am looking to make some money. I have just tallied up what I have paid for my collection over the past year and a half, and that total comes out to around $13,000. Now, keep in mind I almost ALWAYS pay under market value, and I have gotten some great great deals. I am not "getting out of the game", I simply need $4,000. The reason? I am buying Amber an engagement ring. :)

Now, I'm going to be making payments ($800 a month for five months), but I would very much like to get ahead of the curve, if possible, so that my other bills don't suffer in the process. So, if anyone can help me out, I would greatly appreciate it. Consider Shannon's Collection Thread open for business. Everything except my Legacies S/L is for sale. That was my first King signature, I won't sell it. But, everything else is up for grabs at a FAIR price. I have amazing remarques (Dameron's "Flying Monsters", anyone?), original artwork (Alan M. Clark's "Snake Eyes", anyone? lol), a one of a kind Skeleton Crew S/L Treasure Chest, unique promo items, old magazines, foreign books, proofs, and rare-ish collectibles. I have every Castle Rock issue and hundreds of Entertainment Weekly magaziens with the King Of Pop articles. I keep track of everything and can tell you when I bought something and what I paid for it. Any help would be appreciated, thank you. Here is the link to my YEAR ONE ANNIVERSARY INVENTORY, I still have 99% of what's there, and don't forget to scroll through the rest of my Collection Thread (from then until present) to see all the other stuff --which is a lot-- that I've bought since then. PM me for questions and comments, thanks.

Thank you. I've never met anyone who makes me feel the way Amber does. When I used to meet women, I would automatically and subconsciously look for things wrong with them, so that I could justify "getting rid of them". With Amber, the only thing I can find "wrong" with her is that she is too nice to people. She's too generous, even when people aren't the same way in return. And honestly, that's not really a bad thing at all as far as I'm concerned. :)

The engagement ring I'm buying is her deceased mother's engagement/wedding ring. Amber and her mother were best friends, and she died a few years ago. Amber allowed her dad to hold her mom's jewelry in his safe, because well, it's safe there. Well, times got rough for Amber's father and without telling her, he pawned all of her mother's jewerly. When Amber inquired about the ring one day (that's the main thing she cares about, the only thing of her mothers that she cares about), he told her he pawned it and that the pawn ticket had expired. She was HEARTBROKEN. I mean ... whew. So, me being me, I worked my magic, tracked down the ring, and made the managers of the pawn shop love me. They are allowing me to purchase the ring at a MUCH discounted price (this is a $15,000 ring that I'm buying for $4,000 by the way, lol) and when I get it out, I'll be proposing. :)

Bill, I really have to teach you how the use quotation marks, lol. lol @ "He's asking 'Amber' to marry him!!!!!"

I'm pretty sure someone has gotten engaged while being a member of the community here. If there were TWO members of the board here that were getting married, THAT would be something. lol

Brice
05-14-2012, 01:39 AM
Yes, no two members from this site have gotten married yet to my knowledge. Our old directors...Matt, Dora, Hannah, and Aaron all got marrried after meeting at .net. Well, they didn't ALL marry each other (now THAT would be an event....quite an illegal one in most places), but you know what I mean...I hope. There were quite a few marriages between members over there. I am pretty sure we've had members marry non-members though. Now if Amber decides to join up, post, and be a regular member then...

This is SOOOO sweet though.

Edit: I know Jerome, we are off topic again. Sorry! :( Bumping Shannon's sale to this page.

Haven't been on much, so wasn't sure if I can post here or not.
I was going to put a few books up on Ebay, but honestly, I'm just getting tired of dealing with them.

I have 3 books I want to sell, but really don't have a clue what they are worth. That being the main reason I was going to sell on Ebay (let the bidders decide the price).
If I can do "best offer" then thats what I'll do. If not, I'll try to figure out prices.

Here are the 3 books:

1) IT 25th anniversary signed limited edition. Its in unread/new condition. SOLD
2) Very Best of Best New Horror. Signed deluxe edition. Unread/new condition #56 out 200
3) Salem's Lot 1st edition with the 2nd state dust jacket. SOLD

Pics of the books can be found here:

http://profile.imageshack.us/user/cujo56/

I can use Paypal.

Again, I'm sorry if this isn't supposed to be here. Just delete the post if there is a problem not having prices or I shouldn't be posting here.

Thanks

I got #52/200 TWTTK from Waterstones. Would trade this along + a nominal amount of $ for the Grant S/L. The lower numbers could entice a bit more out of me.

My copy was just opened the once to make sure that the binding and signature pages were fine, and handled with gloves.

I'm not holding a lot of hope out on the lottery at this point, so I'm very lachrymose. and hoping those of you have have multiple copies of the US edition could share your luck out a bit.

There were quite a few marriages between members over there. I am pretty sure we've had members marry non-members though.

My partner and I of 14 years took actual legal steps in Iowa and are now husband and husband in several states/countries. Just last Friday, we went before a State of Texas judge that at least validated our name changes; which is about as close as we can get Texas to recognizing our marriage at this point in time.

So, please take a gander at what we have left and email me with your best offer. Someone said that $650 was a good price for a Christine S/L? Well, send me your offer! I have pictures of each and every item and will email them to you directly when you inquire about an item.

Notes: All items have the potential to have a smoke scent to them. If it arrives and you are unhappy with the small, let me know and I will refund 100% of your money. Also, I will be requesting that the funds be sent through PayPal as a Gift. Thank you, and good luck! :)

Perhaps it is time for MY UNVEILING....... I have the copies of Stephen King Signed Scribner US 1St Edition The Wind Through The Keyhole sold as EBay seller Wettease and am trying to decide whether to put up here to see if I can get some offers which would make it worthwhile to sell here rather than EBay... If you have an offer I should consider or a trade I should consider.. contact me through email at wettease@hotmail.com .
Please be patient about getting my response as I have some busy days planned lately and will respond as I have time.
Off to a meeting now, however I wanted to broach this approach before relisting on EBay the last few copies....

I was quite disturbed hearing of Matt & Dora's plight... Life is tough at times and with prayers and little help from our friends we move through it.
During tough times it is nice to have a place like this site to turn to for the camaraderie shared here and the escape one can find by marveling at what others have found, collected and experienced.
I would like to thank Matt with support for his important role in establishing TheDarkTower site now TDT.org
To this point I would like to offer for sale a SIGNED copy of DUMA KEY 1st edition 2nd printing with all the proceeds going to the Emergency Fund here!
Best offer by NOON PST on Sunday 5/20 will then pay via Paypal to Donation link and have book shipped out Monday.

THIS WAS ON MY MIND AND WOKE UP DURING THE NIGHT TO POST IT HOWEVER I left out a bit of information. This book comes with a slipcase and with a Newspaper which speaks of the event where King was paying it forward by introducing a new author (Lauren Groff) at USF in Sarasota. He interviewed her and they discussed writing, style, inspiration, etc. He would not sign books that night saying "This is Lauren's night !" .. I was lucky enough to find that the store Sarasota News & Books who was a sponsor of the event had brought a few presigned books. I figure if Mr. King can Pay It Forward.... SO CAN WE
I will post some pics when I figure out how to do it again. A couple of offers already bringing it up to $125

I will be at a graduation party when this ends and may not be able to get online right away to share who has made the highest offer and won this book..... however I will announce & contact as soon as I get online... Best offer by 3:00 PM PST 5/20/12 wins this. Best of Luck.

Wow....thanks for pointing that out.

Anything else you want to help me out with?

Yes, as RF pointed out it is a good price.

No, as MRT pointed out, it is not the most exciting S/L in the world, but it is a genuine King signature.....hard to find one of those for less than $120.

Also, with only 450 copies made, it is pretty rare.

That may be - and thats why all are listed OBO (or best offer). The proof prices I listed are all 5-10% less than what I paid. Im too lazy to research current market value (gave up after trying to find the market for UTD Light blue US proof).

Interested buyers: OFFERS ARE WELCOME. I have no problem with offers that are in range of current market...

Ok my friends, due to some rather large purchases made from David ( Betts ) I have decided to let go of one of my matching partial DT sets, namely DT IV - VII + LSOE + WTTK #281, included in this is one of my copies of UK S/L WTTK ( a choice of numbers #63, #85 & #129 ) plus the sampler. Please bear in mind that I am yet to receive the Grant WTTK but it should be with me shortly ( fingers crossed ). I am unsure of what to put this set up for as I don't want to undersell but I also don't wish to blow it out of the water, any advice on saleable amount will be gratefully acccepted. If interested please contact me.
These books are all in fine condition, most mint still shrinkwrapped, cheers.

Good luck on the sale. I'm sure the experts will chime in with what this should be worth.

For you, free. You can go ahead and pick them up straight from the museums they're currently located at. I'll give my contacts a call and you'll be all set. Just walk up and take them, no one will bother you.

Unfortunately, I need to sell off a good portion of my collection (temporarily, I hope). I am going to offer everything here first before seeking out another venue if needed.

If you're interested, please send me an e-mail at zack_bowman@yahoo.com. I will be checking my PMs, but prefer the e-mail route.

Offers will be considered.

I prefer paypal or check for payment. We can discuss the shipping terms.

Please let me know if I am off base on any of these prices. I am trying to price to sell.
