The tide came in and lingered, and now slowly fades away
Those starving had their superstructure on evident display
A letter to the mystery man, this first line word is last
Just use a threaded metal shank to hold wood together fast
We chatted up for hours, our tired words droning on
And that is all there is to this, this riddle now is done.
But one more bit of info, another pertinent clue
Consider this a courtesy, a gift from me to you
A niggardly existence, transfigured overnight
A tale of mans redemption in the season of the light

I believe the answer is Ebenezer Scrooge from "A Christmas Carol"

I was trying to work each line and had

The tide came in and lingered, and now slowly fades away - EBB
&
Just use a threaded metal shank to hold wood together fast - SCREW

And then came this... which completely gave it away for me. :)

But one more bit of info, another pertinent clue
Consider this a courtesy, a gift from me to you
A niggardly existence, transfigured overnight
A tale of mans redemption in the season of the light

So I'm definitely curious about the other clues. Even knowing the answer, I still can't get them...

You have the answer and the goose. I'll leave it for others to figure out...;)

That's all I can think of so far....

When someone is enduring starvation, their bones are very apparent, so maybe the superstructure is "a knee" as in Ebb A Knee Sir?

You're very close. You're on the word...sorta...variation on a theme...you could keep guessing or I could just give it...your call. You've already solved the darn thing, no sense beating a dead horse!

At any rate, allow me to confer onto Maturins_Daughter the prize goose from the Poulters on the corner of the next street but one. Well done, I say.

Those starving had their superstructure on evident display Bony
A letter to the mystery man, this first line word is last Sir
Just use a threaded metal shank to hold wood together fast Screw
We chatted up for hours, our tired words droning on Jaw ---okay, this clue was very questionable and I got a raft of shit about it from my girlfriend but, there you have it! ><
And that is all there is to this, this riddle now is done.

I like that one (it was on today), the George C Scott version and the Mr Magoo version too. :)
