View Full Version : **New**--Notices and You

Hey everyone.

The other Directors and I have been testing a board function called "Notices"

Basically it allows us to set a criteria and then post a notice on the board when that criteria isn't met.

We are going to use it to encourage people to vote in our Constant Reader Awards for now and maybe other stuff later.

This will post notices at the top of the board for any polls in the Constant Reader Awards forum that you have not voted in. Once you vote, the notice will go away.

And remember: You get beam bucks for voting :D

Here is a screen shot of what it will look like with 5 notices up there.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/500/medium/notice_screen.JPG

The red circles:

Left one: This is a link to the poll you have not voted in, nice and easy.

Right one: This "Dismiss" button will allow you to dismiss the notice. Once clicked, it will only appear in you UserCP under the Misc category on the left. We did not want to bother anyone with these so if you just REALLY don't want to vote...you can make them go away.

We are hoping you will vote. Once you do, the individual notice goes away.

These notices follow you around wherever you are on the board at the top until you do something with them.

Comments/Suggestions here.

Looking forward to receiving one.
I've voted in all the categories, so no alert yet.
Is there an "opt out" option for those who don't wish for this to appear?

Matt

Just the "dismiss" on the right Jerome. But it will only appear for those polls not voted in.

Its a group thing so we have to go all or notice

love it! That is just what I need. I hate not participating in a good vote :D This way I'll know if I miss one.

thanks directors :grouphug:

As annoying as this could potentially be, I do sometimes forget if I've voted in a poll or not, so I'm all for it.

Since I have voted in all so far, I'm not surprised I haven't seen anything like this yet.

I like this idea, really good prospects for other things other then voting.

Does it show a notice for ALL polls or just the ones selected by the directors?

Daghain

I believe just the ones selected by the directors.

I think it's great. I'm always worried I'm missing a voting opportunity!

Cool. I like it, too! That way when I need to think about how I want to vote, the fact that I haven't yet will be staring me in the face!!

Matt

Yep, just the ones selected by us. We actually have to create a notice for any poll that we want it to evaluate, so it will only be on the CRA polls for now.

Thanks for the great feedback you guys. It's not on yet, but look for it soon.

Sa-weet.

I was just trying to figure out how to use the search for finding polls I hadn't voted in.

How incredibly mind-readish of you !

Just so everyone knows, we are going to implement this on NEW polls only so it won't tell you if you have missed any up until now.

I have a shortcut on my computer that bypasses the "home" page.
I'll go look now and again , just cause at my age I sometimes forget
things, great idea as always directors!

quick question, how come it's not notifying me about voting in the Rose Madder poll? It did for all the other books but not this one for some reason.

Good point.

I am afraid their isn't.

I'll look into a work around if it is too bothersome--should only be about 5 a week until the CRA's are over.

Rose Madder was not new yesterday (I don't think) so I didn't create a notice for it. These have to be hand done for every poll and I wanted to start with ones that started this week.

It's just for the CRA's for now TS

mae

No, Rose Madder is in the same new bracket that opened yesterday (see the overview (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?t=5965)). Now I see why it has 20-odd votes, when the other books have 50-60. Matt, please add it to the notices!

Matt

Sounds good, I must have missed that one. :fairy:

Edit: It's there now

you know those groovy little pop-ups that tell you to go vote in the constant reader awards? how come none showed up for round three? is it because there are just too many listings?

thanks.
