[MODERATOR'S NOTE:]
This thread is dedicated to everything Dark-Tower-like you've seen in the so-called real life
http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/0134-bear.gifhttp://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/0134-bear.gifhttp://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/0134-bear.gif
[/end note]

I know I'm reading way into this. But please, just humor me for a few minutes.

I give you: the Burj Dubai, the world's tallest building, and still growing.
160 floors.
707m; 2,320ft. high
Predicted to be 818m; 2,684ft. high when complete.
Expected to be 150% the height of the Sears Tower
Construction began September 21st, 2004 and is predicted to end September 2009.
Building will hold appartements, a full gym (with pool of course), restraunts, etc.
Will also have the world's fastest elevator, approaching at 18m/s.

Let's take a look at this guy:

Well...are you thinking what I'm thinking?
:rose::rose::rose:
Like I said, I know it's just a coincidence.
But a girl can dream.
What do you think?

Yeah, it makes me think of the Dark Tower a tiny bit but not a lot. But I can understand you. (We are DT junkies.)
But I have seen buildings that made me think of the Dark Tower much more.

So have I. I believe this could be the thread for them all, maybe with some alterations to the title.

Yes, but very cold! If you look closer, you'll see small figures around - they are not people, of course, they are the Guardians, but they all had to put on warm coats! http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/bear_wink-1.gif

Great!! There is a silo that I pass each evening at sunset this time of year as I return home from work, it stands alone in a firld and at this hour it fairly shouts "look at me, I AM the dark tower!!" I wish I had taken a photo, perhaps now I will!:huglove:

This is here in Tampa. It's not dark (in fact, it's white) but it is still a tower that stands out from far away and makes me think of The Tower.

This tower is on the campus @ UF, decidedly not a dark tower but pretty and it has a bell
thingy in it that plays music...

The Dark Tower for me is in the books and rarely in my dreams :borg: I haven't seen a building or a tower which reminds me the one created by my imagination yet....:(

alinda
04-01-2009, 09:15 AM
Well the ones above are not what I imagined either, but
in my mind any tower can remind me now if you look at it
in a certain way, like that farmers silo at sunset, it isnt
even a tower proper, but with the sunsetting its like it
suddenly takes on the appearence of our beloved tower
in my mind. ( I know) :panic:

What I started thinking, actually, was about the Tower of Babel... but then, that is something that I sometimes think of when I look at the Dark Tower, too. ;)

I can't find a picture because its not important enough to be anywhere on the internet, but in a town about 20 minutes from me theres a gigantic.. well it looks like a smoke stack to me anyway, that you can see clearly from anywhere around.

I DO love cemeteries. I would dwell in them, if I could. In fact, I cried like a baby when I visited Tolkien's and C.S. Lewis' graves in Oxford. But that pointing thing just creeped me. Too uncanny to be true :)

the closest thing ive ever found to the tower itself was more along the lines of its metaphysical aspects
When I was 11 years old, a kid in elementary school, I got kicked in the head while playing soccer
It knocked me out and I was told that I was out for like 30 seconds but I remember seeing just DARKNESS, endless and empty and forever
years and years later, the reading passage about rolands vision at the end of the gunslinger struck an extra nerve in me because of that

Unfortunately couldn't get it all in one picture, had to get close to stuff wasn't obstructing the view and when I got there my little camera phone couldn't get it all. This is a big Tower near me that was supposed to have a rotating restaurant near the top but they never finished it.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pa, we always called the huge tower in the middle of the PITT campus "The Dark tower" everytime i saw after i read the books, i though about Roland and his Ka-tet, it can be seen from miles away!http://http://www.aacs-pit.org/images/cathlrng.jpg
