Brian, I have a couple of books on order through Camelot that are very late in coming and it has been awhile since I have asked for an update. What is the status of the lettered edition of Peter Straub's Sides? The numbered edition appeared in 2008 but I have heard nothing on the lettered.

Same question on the lettered edition of F. Paul Wilson's Sims: Book Five: Thy Brother's Keeper. The numbered edition appeared in 2010 but no word on the lettered for a long time.

Thanks!

We recently hired back our original traycase vendor from years ago, when he reappeared on the scene, which worked out nicely for SIMS 5 because he could match the previous cases he had made. That one should be here in late March.

SIDES should be here this summer. We're using three vendors these days, which is making a big difference on catching up.

Very sorry about the wait on these!

The 'early' CD and Sub Press announcements are usually useless to me since they are always posted when I am at work. A day earlier instead of a few hours would be more convenient for me.

I loved the book, too, but after all the money spent in 2013, I couldn't get myself to pull the trigger on the Lettered edition. I went for the Limited Edition and am very happy. Congrats, Cemetery Dance, on landing the contract for this hugely popular non-King book!

i second this!!! I would feel better served if i received the information a day or even 1/2 day earlier. I sometimes have meetings, etc... and then see 3 emails and i know something is up!!

We're sending her the next batch next week and we're shipping the books right back out to the collectors as they come in, so hopefully you won't be waiting too much longer. Is yours a Gift Edition or a Limited or a Lettered? Thanks for asking!

For those who missed the news, Screamplays and Smoke & Mirrors are both at the printer and should be done around the end of April. It's hard to describe how large these books are, but they are 400 to 500 pages long and the same trim size as The Secretary of Dreams if that helps. They're going to look amazing.

FYI: The signed Limited Edition of Smoke & Mirrors is signed by Neil Gaiman, William Peter Blatty, Joe Hill, Stewart O'Nan, Frank Darabont, William F. Nolan, Brian Keene & Michael Oliveri, Poppy Z. Brite, Kealan Patrick Burke, Mick Garris, Ray Garton, Joe R. Lansdale, and Richard Chizmar… and we only have a few copies left for reservation.

Just got an email about the King mouse pad that was originally part if the CD club offering a while back. I do like it but tad expensive at $30 plus international shipping.

Cool to see these being offered though.

Grabbed a Lettered Gone Girl. I'd never heard of Gillian Fynn or Gone Girl before this week; apparently it received a lot of press in 2012, but none of it made it across my screen. Still, reading up it looks like it was well received and yes if they make a movie out of it that is of course a bonus. Will have to get a copy of the paperback and read it; if it's good I'll keep the book, if not there will probably be a heightened market for it when the movie comes out.

I'd like to thank Mindy and all involved for my replacement Weak and Wounded.

The first copy had a folded end paper. The replacement arrived well packaged, as always, and in pristine condition.

The return is already handled thanks to the preprinted postage paid return label.

I've given a large percentage of my income to Cemetery Dance. :P

One reason is the quality and value of the publications. Another is the quality and value of the people.

This was not a paid endorsement.

what will be the final print run of smoke and mirrors?

Limited Edition is 400 and Lettered Edition is 52. We don't usually post trade edition print runs, but I can tell you that -- due to the insane printing cost on both of these books -- they're actually pretty small trade print runs and I cannot ever imagine doing a second printing unless something *really* strange happened and made trade distribution demand skyrocket.

That's actually about right, based off of my rough calculations. The big thing is because two of those are preorders, it calculates each item as a separate package, because most likely they will be shipped in separate packages. It really stinks that the shipping is so high, but that's the USPS constantly raising the costs of shipping.

Perhaps there will be a sale this fall when all of them might be in-stock? We almost always end up with extras, just because of how the manufacturing process works.

Do we have any new info on the s/l dark man portfolio?

A brand new prototype is in production. We realized that the last two designs would have eventually and inadvertently damaged a couple of pieces of the artwork on the bottom of the stack. With 100 pieces of art, the stack is something like 1.5 inches thick, so we had to go back to the drawing board for an entirely new design to spread the weight around differently and protect all of the art. It has not been an easy process, and had we realized it would take this many tries to get this right, we wouldn't have announced the portfolio when we did. But this last prototype should be ready by the end of March and if it does the job, they'll be off to the races!

Just got the Doctor Sleep trade edition slipcase from CD and it is beautiful! I had not paid attention to any pictures, if there were any, and was surprised at it being so different from the GE slipcase. I like it more than the GE!

Also a big fan of the Doctor Sleep slipcase I received yesterday.

Well done CD.

Yes and no. I have what appears to be two very damaged boxes of cases. That said we have been so busy since they came that there has been no time to go through them and sort out the good from the bad. It's one of many things that is on my "when there's time" to do list. Once there's time to sort that out and make products for the website, I'll make sure to post here and let everyone know.

Will we be able to order the anniversary Carrie from PS Publishing through Cemetery Dance?

Yep, down the road. We are getting the same number of copies, but we're still waiting on the rest of our copies of PET SEMATARY to arrive before we offer Carrie. (Pete started shipping our order to us in December, finished at the end of January, and we're still short what we're expecting due to the slow transit times.)

We will email the PET SEMATARY customers about CARRIE when we're ready to put the page on the site, but we want to get all of our PET SEMATARY business concluded first.

Still working on that! We thought a dealer had a block of numbers from our batch, but he was mistaken. That said, Pete is sure he sent us all of our numbers and we're still waiting on books to arrive. (He started shipping to us back in December, but didn't finish shipping our order until the end of January, and transit time seems to be around 5 weeks) So we're watching as each new box trickles in and checking against the list. I'm still very hopeful they will show up!

It varies. Usually a day or two. Mindy was out sick for a couple of days this week, so you might not hear back for a little bit longer. She gets something like 200 to 300 emails a day at the order@ address from customers, so when she misses a few days, it takes a little bit of time to catch-up. But she will be in touch! And if you don't hear from her on Monday, let me know and she'll check her spam folder, etc.

Just wondering about the price increase for Carrie? And also how long do we have to order matching #s?

We are getting such a small discount that once we figured out how much it was costing us to ship them from overseas that we realized we where not making any money on them. So to continue carrying the line of books we needed to charge a little more.

As far as the matching numbers go, if you've already placed your order you pretty much have until our copies arrive, but we typically suggest putting in your request ASAP. If you haven't placed your order yet you only have as long as we still have copies available to sell, though I'm sure we'll be able to work something out if someone misses the window who has order the previous ones from us.

Brian James Freeman
03-07-2014, 07:21 PM

Yeah, in terms of getting your order in, I don't plan on emailing anyone other than the Pet Sematary customers about Carrie for a little while, so unless someone stumbles across the page on the site at random (it's not even listed in the category), these'll be there for the Pet Sematary customers to order for a while. At some point Rich will want to get the rest sold, but there's some time before that.

I've just read a french canadian book that was great and would be PERFECT for Cemetery Dance. But since it's in french and would require translation JUST for reading the story, I guess that it's very unlikely that CD would even consider foreign texts...

LE BUS, by Madeleine Robitaille.
"A normal hot day, a journey on a bus, what of more normal? Among the 30 passengers, nobody imagine that they go straight to an unknown destination : HELL. No-one? Actually, Mia begged her mother to delay her departure. But why paying attention to the bad dream of a little girl?"
>>> http://www.amazon.com/bus-French-Edition-Madeleine-Robitaille/dp/2917460709/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1394389769&sr=8-1&keywords=le+bus+robitaille

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51IVXlVSUjL._.jpg

Same thoughts about a short story written by Maxime Chattam (the french author that was on stage with Steve in november, in France).
LE FRACAS DE LA VIANDE CHAUDE (lit : the roar of the warm flash). Some kind of an horrible murder story...

From Wiki:

Sword in the Darkness is the title of an unpublished novel. It is the longest of King's unpublished works, at approximately 485 pages (150,000 words) in length. Upon its completion in April 1970, it was rejected by twelve publishers. King has said that he now considers it unpublishable and intends for it never to be released to the public. The book's plot includes a character dealing with the suicide of his pregnant sister and the death of his mother from a brain tumor, and another character, a black activist lawyer, who incites a riot after speaking at a local high school. In 2006, a lengthy excerpt from the book was published in Stephen King: Uncollected, Unpublished, by Rocky Wood et al. (Cemetery Dance Publications, March 2006). The excerpt related the back-story of one character, a teacher named Edie Rowsmith. It is effectively a stand-alone horror-story in the style of the early Stephen King.

The Cannibals is an unfinished book he worked on while filming Creepshow. It's the same concept as Under the Dome except people are trapped in an apartment complex instead of a town. As you might guess from the title, people have a different solution to the running-out-of-food problem. King published the first chapters of it on his website around the time UtD came out.

Mmm. I don't think it'll be, Bill. The last time CD mentioned they'll be doing one of the best projects ever, it turned out to be IT 25th anniversary, and even when I like the SOD volumes, none can be compared with the INCREDIBLE editions they produced of IT. Not even close!

Hmm ... If it's open to speculation ... how's about a joint venture Carrie 40th Anniversary S/L between CD and ... say ... PS Publishing (it's been done before) ... the Doubleday publication date was April 5th, 1974, which, this year, is a Saturday, which likely doesn't sit well as a "major announcement" sort of day, commercially speaking, so why not carry it over to the next business day, being April 7th (which is also my birthday - which leads me to believe this supposition is wholly a figment of my imagination generated by my wanting a really, really cool BD present this year)

Correct, this week we're signing deals with three different New York Times bestselling authors. Not all of those deals will be announced this year, though. It's just been a tremendously good week in terms of landing very interesting projects from well-known authors.

I can't imagine they'd release this in the same general time frame (i.e. within a year or so) time-frame that PS Publishing is coming out with theirs. Not only would it be bad form, but surely PS had some sort of exclusivity for a limited CARRIE in their contract w/ King, even if it's not a signed (by King) edition.

Brian, what's the usual wait time for a refund? I emailed about Pure and Shocklines a couple days ago. Thanks.

Brian

Close to a month and still nothing. I followed up a week after posting here, I the sent complete order information and what the books were. Mindy answered promptly and said she'll have to research it (or look it up, I can't remember). That was two weeks ago. I know she deals with hundreds of emails but mine shouldn't be too hard to find. The books titles and "refund" are in the subject.

Brian,
I gotta tell you I am disappointed with the new CD slipcases. I don't think someone did their homework.
If you compare the new ones to the ones you all produced before, the new ones are 1/2 inch shorter.
Your issue #'s like 51-54 must have been a different printer and they don't fit the boxes! Also, I like to
board/bag my magazines, I've got four boxes of the original size with boarded/bagged magazines going back
to vol. 2 but I can't use boards with the new boxes unless I trim them very short and it's still tight.
This is the stuff that drives collectors batty.
thanks.

My guess

Stephen King named his pseudonym Richard Bachman after one of his favorite bands, Bachman Turner Overdrive (BTO)

On "April 7, 1988" BTO released a Greatest Hits Live CD called "King" Biscuit Flower Hour Archive Series

There have also been "7" Bachman books released so far, the 7th being a novel called "Blaze"

King mentioned in the introduction to "Blaze" that Bachman was the man using the name John Swithen (Swithen is a character in "Carrie"). John Swithen was the name of King's second pseudonym, a name he published the story "The Fifth Quarter" under in Cavalier magazine magazine in "April" of 1972.

BTO's first studio album was leased in 1973, the same year King sold the rights to publish Carrie, which was itself published on 4/5/1974.

All of this leaves me with a conundrum. Is the announcement about Blaze? Carrie? Or perhaps, Blaze and Carrie?

Because Carrie is already getting the anniversary treatment from PS Publishing I am making my "Official Guess" BLAZE!

Ben Staad
03-30-2014, 08:53 AM

I posted the following on the CD forum :

My official guess : although PS Publishing is dealing with the 40 years anniversary of CARRIE, it seems to be one of the biggest project dealt by CD.
PS Publishing has announced a big surprise related to Carrie, but we still dont know what that is.
Furthermore, the 7th of april is the working day that just follows April 5th, which is, i think the supposed official release date of CARRIE.

>>> I would say that it's all related.
Maybe the lettered edition of CARRIE, 40 years anniversary, that is still not officially announced is done as a partnership between CD & PS?

I don't think so. There will only be 26 copies of the Lettered edition of Carrie. CD wouldn't make such a huge announcement for only 26 books being available that are solely targeted to the super rich that can afford to spend $1,000+ on a book.

Yeah, that's what I heard and that's why I was thinking: why would the 'big announcement' be a reprint? Sounds to me like CD landed the rights to produce a couple of new books by several authors including King. But again - I may have missed some obvious hint because I did not follow the news.

And as Ari reminded us, CD now owns the uncompleted manuscript of "Phil and Sundance"
Less than a week to go now :)

Most people have concluded that this involves Stephen King based upon it being "one of our most important projects in a very long time." That phrase seems to mean it is as or more important than The Dark Man or Doctor Sleep limiteds.

The release date is late summer which seemingly precludes a new novel by SK. A reprint/anniversary issue is a good possibility. A release in book/limited form of previously published or unpublished material such as an early works collection would be cool and follows in the steps of The Dark Man.

Brian mentioned that projects from new contracts usually aren't announced for months or years. Of course it could still have something to do with that.

That would be interesting! It would be even more interesting if it was completed and published!

If it's worth publishing... completed by Joe Hill and voila :)

Richard just said on facebook that they are signing some contracts with authors this week...

I can't guess what the announcement will be but I'd love for CD (or anyone else really) to publish proper limited editions of some of King's back catalogue. Different Seasons, Misery, Bag of Bones, Duma Key...
