Will do, Brian. Thanks! So has the book been published and sent out? If so, when did that happen?

I just double-checked and most of the copies were shipped during the middle two weeks of March, although there were a few stragglers that shipped later.

Brian

Uh-oh!

"I see a bad moon rising. I see trouble on the way."

I got mine on 3rd April.

That is what I thought. I seem to remember a couple of photos posted of the books as members received them a few weeks ago. I've not heard anything from PS Publishing. I started inquiring a couple of weeks ago and I got the vague reply from Nikki saying "I'll have Pete look into it." Then......nothing. I have a feeling something has gone really wrong. Either the book is lost in the mail or they didn't record my payment way back on Aug. 1, 2011 and didn't even send me a book. And, as of this morning, they haven't responded to the e-mail Brian sent on my behalf yesterday.

Update: Just received a nice note of apology from Pete. Mix-up with the orders.....my copy never sent. Mailing to me next week. I'm just glad there was an extra copy. I just hope it isn't a "PC" copy.

The same thing happened with me and a lettered Colorado Kid. I ended up with a PC copy. I was excited at first, but after hearing other people getting PC copies at much lower prices I felt ripped off. Moral of the story Bob, if it is a PC copy don't except it at the publish price, negotiate.

I agree. If I ordered a lettered edition of anything and got a PC copy, I would be really ticked off. That's some serious $$. I'm really hoping for the best for you here, Bob. Good luck!

I think that is great advice. Hopefully it will not be a PC copy but if it is (and it was their error) I wouldn't accept it for the cost of the lettered numbered. IMO a PC and a lettered numbered are not the same product.

Just to set the record straight, there is no Lettered edition of this title. There is only a Numbered 1/100.

Correct, there is not a Lettered Edition. The specific states are:

• Limited Hardcover "Bookshop" Edition of just 1,000 copies signed by Stephen Jones and Les Edwards
• Leatherbound Deluxe Hardcover Edition in a handmade custom traycase, limited to 100 copies signed by all of the contributors, only 83 copies will be available for sale to the general public

Both are sold out. The Deluxe Hardcover Edition looks like this:

Me too... its not a critic at CD but i really thinks the waiting time for some books is mostly to long.
I ordered a signed/limited Lucifers Lottery by Edward Lee last year in may...??? Nothing new...?
I ordered a The Illustrated Stephen King Trivia Book: Revised & Updated 2nd Edition in July last year!...??? Officially ready for the printer next month...hopefully but do not expect to much. When i get it i think i am ready to order the third edition, becaue King made to much books in this period...hahaha

Ordered also the Prophet, today got finally an update. Furthermore an BlackHouse-limited edition, also got the information that it will ship soon... and looking forward to both...!

I'm a reasonably happy camper - I have 12 Lettered Editions winging their way to me right now (the oldest having been ordered on June 30th, 2010 - Lilja's Library with original art by Glenn Chadbourne) so it's pleasing to see that CD appear to have made a good start of clearing the backlog of Lettered Editions they have

Spring probably won't happen because the 35 lettered editions wrecked the schedule, plus there was a surprise addition to our list that no one was expecting (how I wish I had 2 more staffers!), but I hope it won't be too much longer! And I do think you'll be very pleased with the production values on this one! Thanks for your patience!

We have a great prototype for a cool looking two book traycase, something we've never done before, from our King case maker. They have to finish the Doctor Sleep prototype first, but The Century's Best Horror Fiction is on their summer production list, so it *should* be completed in the fall.

Yeah, like Dan said, we were definitely on the fence about the idea. It was something different to try that allowed us to get 35 older projects done at the same time, which seems to have made most of the collectors happy. The books certainly look like they're part of a set if you have 12+ titles. And there's still the other features such as upgraded binding, low print run, satin ribbon page markers, etc, to set them apart from the Limited and other editions. But I can definitely understand if someone didn't dig the look!

Nope, probably no email until the announcement! If you want the personalized link to share, though, it's on the confirmation page after you submit your address. You can access it again by returning to the promo page and entering your address again:

http://cemeterydance.com/somethingdarkiscoming/?ref=1Qscl

(You won't be signed-up a second time, it'll just take you to the confirmation page again.)

If you've already passed around your link, that page will also tell you how many friends have clicked through your link, etc, if you're curious about that sort of thing!

Brian, is there only one piece of artwork for the World War Z?

Yeah, we weren't allowed (per the contract) to do interiors, unfortunately. THAT could have been a lot of fun.

Without going in to specifics for this book, but what sort of general reasons would an author object to illustrations being used in a publication?

Some authors just don't like the idea in general. A lot of times, when the decision comes down from someone other than the author (an agent, the trade publisher, etc), I don't think the author actually made the request -- it's just something the agent or publisher has a hang-up about for whatever reason. Sometimes the topic is a deal breaker (for them), so we just roll with what they want and try to find other ways to make the book special.

For example, we have a special edition in the works of one of the bestselling books of the last 5 years (probably won't be ready until 2014, so it won't be announced for a while) that will have NO artwork at all -- not even a DJ. The trade publisher just wouldn't budge. So we're going to upgrade the binding and make it look like a fine, ancient volume you'd find in an old library. That wasn't our original idea, but it made the deal workable and it'll probably end up being a very cool, different book for us.

Okay, I can confirm:

We have worked with the author before.

Those previous books have sold out very quickly in several cases.

This author has many fans here on this message board -- in fact, I would say everyone here likes his work.

The book is not Joyland.

It is not a book you currently own.

The book is already designed and in production, heading to the printer next week.

The trade editions will be published on July 30th. (Signed editions will most likely ship in August because the traycase turnaround time is running 10 weeks right now and they can't start until we have a dummy book.)

There are no other editions in the works from anyone because it IS an oddity -- not a novel or novella reprint.

We've had a lot of fun putting the book together, but we know some fans will love this book and others will feel "meh" about it because it's not a novel or novella. It's one of those quirky, odd projects that are perfect for a small press.

Oh, and the regular trade edition will be available in US bookstores, but we don't know how many copies they'll have yet.

Does this help?

I think STAND BY ME (THE BODY) when I see the illustration too....but the SOMETHING DARK IS COMING title does not fit.....unless that is the title of an anthology that includes THE BODY.

Brian said it is not a book that we already have...but that is not to say it is not a new anthology of previously published stories from different collections.

Taking that theory one step further.....maybe it is a collection of King short stories that have been turned into movies....The Body, Children of the Corn, The Lawnmower Man, The Night Flier, etc.

Trade for retailers, Slipcased Trade, Limited, Lettered. All four have different DJs.

This is something that HAS appeared in print before, but never in one of King's collections and *never* like this.

By the way, I'm not teasing to be mean or get people excited/worked up. We actually cannot announce the full details until Tuesday. Everything this year is very scheduled because the author has, well, a very packed schedule. But we knew we had to alert everyone who will definitely want one of the signed editions that there IS an announcement coming.

Some people will love this project and some will be "meh" about it. We knew that going in, but everyone involved had a blast. So for those who dig the project for what it is, I think you're going to have a lot of fun, too.

The Lettered Edition will actually have an original drawing in each copy. A lot of collectors said they liked Vinny Chong's "official art sheet" for Doctor Sleep, so we took that to the next level for this project. (Not with Vinny, though. This one is all Glenn.)

I think there will be the possibility of adding a remarque in the other three editions. To make thing simpler for the fans on King's main mailing list, we won't be offering the remarques tomorrow. Four options felt confusing enough. :)

Speaking of two volumes, I don't think we've ever discussed this publicly, but there were A LOT of pre-production discussions about splitting our edition of IT into two volumes due to the size. It would have pushed the costs higher and we just couldn't get a feel for how people *really* felt about past King special editions that had to go the two book route. In the end, we let the man who makes the final call on all important aspects make the decision and, as you know, we ended up with one very big book.

But, just so I know for future projects, if we ever have to consider splitting a King book into two volumes for the special edition, how would you feel about that?

(I can say with 100% certainly this has NOTHING to do with tomorrow's announcement. I've just always been curious.)

I would not at all be a fan of taking a single-volume work and splitting it into two volumes.

That said, if it is a new work that has a natural division between two halves, I would see no problem in doing so.

King's finishing "The Plant" and doing a new limited edition of that one would have been... interesting. Personally, I think that the emphasis on "Dark" means that it will have something to do with Flagg specifically, perhaps something along the lines of "Secretary of Dreams" where "The Dark Man" and perhaps other works receive a similar treatment with copious illustrations.

I think two volumes is fine if there is a justified reason for there to be two volumes. The idea of the original manuscript version as one volume and the published book as the second is really cool if there are substantial differences between the two, or making the books match the rest of a set (size constraints). The separate volumes of The Green Mile Limited, made sense. I love the it limited but the paper seems to not be as nice (thickness and texture) I know this was probably a choice made to keep the size of the book reasonable, I would have been fine with the two volumes for a book that massive.

If SK is willing to give the OK to limiteds of unproven titles (Joyland and Dr Sleep being two recent examples) then you'd think he'd be on board for a limited of a classic like Different Seasons. I would Love either a SL of dead zone or different seasons...Both are fabulous works and both would benefit from a Deluxe treatment with artwork! count me in!

I HATE TWO VOLUMES. I sold my numbered set of the Gunslinger series, because of that. I HATE TWO VOLUMES of the same book. But i do like my Secretary of Dreams vol 1 and vol 2. but it irks me that they are two different numbers.

I am with you...DT4, DT5, DT7, and The Talisman...all two volumes....why?

I do however like how The Green Mile was broken up into six volumes...which is how it was originally published.

Much more deserving than many recent SK limiteds, The Shining excepted.

Often it's because of the capability of the printing press. They can only handle a certain size book. So if the book would be 3.5 inches thick, and the press can only handle 3 inches, you either have to pick a thinner paper stock or split it into two volumes. (The thickness or thinness of the paper stock is why you might find a 500 page book and a 750 page book that are the exact same thickness -- they used different paper stocks.)

Thanks for the feedback on the one volume vs two volume question! Keep 'em coming if you'd like.

Traycase holding the whole big package (bachman books or different seasons, etc...) and then each "section/story" in its own Slipcase within the Traycase. Like an older CD Case when you open with each CD in its slipcase.

Your welcome. :D
