When I purchased the 1st gen Kindle the first thought I had was Cemetery Dance will be great on this based on the B&W format. I know there is much more involved in it, but I am thrilled to see it finally reach E-Ink.

I know Dan has designed the e-editions to work for all of the major stores, which has meant treating them more like a "book" than a magazine, so I think these editions are going to look great.

(It's kind of funny because Amazon estimates the page count to be 248 pages based on the word count, which just goes to show how much content we've been packing into each issue.)

Of particular interest to Stephen King fans will probably be CD #68:

I already purchased them all, and I hope more back issues are coming soon. Now the only issue is I have to recharge my Kindle. I always forget to turn off the Wi-Fi, and that eats the battery.

We'd love to be able to do some more back issues. They're a bit harder though due to contracting issues.

Ok I remember that being the issue for Hard Case Crime with some of their earlier releases as well.

Yeah, it took about a year to secure all of the rights for these eight issues. If we go back further, there will also be the problem of a lack of files. We don't have production files from our old designer and we're finding a surprising number of authors who don't have electronic manuscripts. So it's a lot of OCRing and copyediting before we can even get started. We'll have to see how these issues do!

Several handfuls.

This is outta left field, but you jostled a memory. I took my son, many years ago to the NBA HOF. They have a cast of Air Jordan's hand that you can put your hand in and compare. Now I am 6'9" and can palm a basketball comfortably in my hand, but in comparison to Jordan, mine was that of a little kid!!!

Also, I wear a size 17 shoe. Shaq is a 20 and I think it was Lambier that wore a 22!!!!

BTW, MJ is listed as 6' 9" as well!!

Joe315
02-25-2013, 05:42 PM
I hope the HOF doesn't have MJ listed at 6' 9". He was listed at 6' 6" but was probably 6'4"-6'5".

As I recall, and that is subjective, that's what they listed him at. I sorta remember because I'm the same size, but the NBA has been notorious for misrepresenting player heights for years.

All I can say is that he could hold a basketball like I could hold a soccer ball!!!

Looks fantastic. Looking forward to this to arrive.
There was a photo posted on the lonely road Facebook page of the book sans dustjacket, and it looks great with red lettering on a cream binding.

Not the best shot because I don't have a good background color here at the moment, but you certainly get the idea:

In CD's magazine issue #68 Glenn Chadbourne is interviewed by Brian Freeman. Glenn mentioned that he entered in and won a contest in the Castle Rock newsletter.
Thanks to a member here, I clarified that the winning art appeared in Volume 2 Issue #11, 1986.
Here is a scan of the image and a blurb from the newsletter:

Another compliment to our members and site being the best most responsive and informative King Collectors on the 'net. From an email received by Glenn Chadbourne today:

Probably end of May or beginning of June. This is one of those books where we could have put it out of print a while ago with our distributor preorders for the chain bookstores, but we'd like to sell as many copies to our direct customers as we can. We have more projects with Michael coming up and we'd rather our collectors get as much of the print run of The Prophet as possible -- that way they can start building a collection of our editions of his work. We probably have 50 copies left to sell. I'll be putting a reminder about the book in an upcoming newsletter, so hopefully those copies will be gone sooner than later. ;)

Hey Brian -

Just FYI, I also didn't get the e-mail today. I confirmed that my S/L order does have my e-mail address. I got the e-mail for the VC remarque, and every other CD e-mail up through yesterday's (was it yestersday?) special edition grab bag. I wouldn't have known about this one in time if not for SK Collector's message; luckily I happened to check e-mail right after he sent it out, so was able to fire off Mindy a message right away even though I didn't have the CD e-mail to forward with it.

I guess I'm just saying that something went wonky with today's mailing; and to Tomas at SK Collector a big huge thank you.

Thanks .... I should be okay, based on the timeframe for response to the Vincent Chong offer. I was hours late for that one but was still able to get signed up. Tomas sent out his message at 2:20 pm (Mountain Time), I wrote Mindy at 2:27 ... so probably within a half hour of CDs message. Should be good to go. Still, fingers crossed!

We haven't designed the signature sheets yet -- just received the final files from the New York publisher this month -- so I'm not sure. If you order the book, you can always send Mindy your number request (via a reply to your order confirmation email) and she'll make a note on your order!

I've been disappointed with how PS handle the CD books so far, not once have they had the books I've wanted to buy, latest example being Dr Sleep, had to email them (annoying in itself - obviously UK folk are going to want to know about the title) and they just said yes they'll be getting some and they'll be up on the site soon, well I checked numerous times and never any sign of them, did you only allocate them five copies so they went up on the site for all of ten minutes or did they just not bother to list any on the site?.

Next email I had from them was some nonsense about mixed up sig sheets, obviously a case of mixed up emails sending me something meant for one of their authors, hopefully they handle the sale of international limited edition books a bit more carefully.

If it was truly a 'CD European Store' as touted in the email then every time an announcement of a new book is made we could go straight onto PS and read about the title and when/if they'll be getting stock, instead it's just the same unhelpful random list of books.

I agree entirely. Nicky made mention that they would not put up books until they have copies when I enquired about Dr Sleep yet CD say you can pre-order with them. Very confusing!

I'm not sure of their exact turnaround time on posting the new books, but I would think it would be within a few days. I also didn't realize they were holding onto their copies of Doctor Sleep until publication, but I'm not surprised at that. You'll notice several of our retailers just auction off the King books. I think there was one who was already selling his Limited Editions of $750+ the other week.

Not very nice and a good time to cancel work-relations with this retailer...

I also do not understand PS-Publishings CD-page... I thought i could now buy everything there, but this seems just to be some kind of advertising and not working in reality... :arg:

I'm all on my own for this site, so I just have to watch for books to be discounted. I kind of lucked onto a couple, and some very helpful posters on the CD forum pointed out some others, so if anyone spots any great deals/discounts, I would definitely appreciate a heads-up! :)

I'm trying to understand from the CD email... While Glenn Chadbourne is adding remarques to all editions, was he only involved with original illustrations for the Gift edition?

Glenn created the illustrated endpapers for the Gift Edition, but he can remarque any edition a collector wants. We didn't limit it to the Gift Edition because we know collectors would ask about their signed editions (because several already were asking!).

To answer the obvious question, unless Steve suddenly decides he wants to try his hand at remarquing books, there will be NO other remarques offered by us for our edition of Doctor Sleep. (Mindy, Kate, and Dan are grateful for that. The logistics of all of this in the order management system is not the most fun part of their day!)

I think it is not worth 199US$, that Chadbourne or Jill or Wirightson or someone else just remarques a book. What a King-related-Chadbourne-work (standalone) is in the worst case worth you can see here (http://www.ebay.de/itm/Original-Glenn-Chadbourne-Stephen-King-Sketch-Graveyard-Shift-/271170767404?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&nma=true&si=u9D7%252BTq40BnjyU5TJNHqdWJgUPM%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc).

I will not pay additional 199$...sorry. Pay her for the shining, and here for Joyland, then here for Dr.Sleep... to much money. 50$ would be ok imho, but not more... I will and i am sure i really will purchase one of the remarqued books later much cheaper than now...

But do not misunderstand. CD do really nice work!!! This is only my opinion...

Remarques are definitely something some collectors love and others don't care about and others completely hate! :) We offer them for those collectors who love them and also to help out our artists who need as much supplemental income as they can generate to keep doing what they really love.

Yeah, we had A LOT of discussions about whether to offer it because the slipcases aren't cheap to make, especially in small runs. But several collectors asked on the same day and we decided to make the option available for those who wanted. It will be a neat little slipcase, but I can definitely understand passing on it for a paperback!

Are Shivers VII and The Talisman/Black House ready to ship?

Doctor Sleep: Why are the signature sheets going to the UK? Is it for one of the artists? Did SK sign already?

Are you doing a hardcover for Joyland? :) Thanks!!!!

George at C-Springs

Brian, I love remarques but I guess my feedback is that I wish all of these artist options had been offered up front, rather than three different times weeks apart. Doing it this way makes it impossible to plan (both financially and perhaps for one particular artist over another), and to be honest it makes me kinda feel like I'm getting nickel and dimed. I think (my opinion) it would have made a better impression if the offer up front would have been book $X, with remarques available from these artists for $X, $XX, and $XXX (with maybe a small discount if getting all three). And, as said above, these remarques have gotten very pricy ... can't really justify it when the art costs more than the book.

Anyway, my two cents ... I got two of the three (Chadbourne not worth $200 to me).

Doctor Sleep: Why are the signature sheets going to the UK? Is it for one of the artists? Did SK sign already?

Are you doing a hardcover for Joyland? :) Thanks!!!!

Shivers VII is almost ready for the printer. Paranoid me sent it out for one more proofreading.

The Talisman/Black House set is SO close. Got word from the slipcase maker that they could be sending the approval case next week, which would mean we'd have the cases this month!

Vincent Chong lives in the UK, so he was the first to sign the sheets. We leave SK for last when it comes to signature sheets.

George

Totally hear you and I'll pass this along for consideration on future projects!

In this case, we should have known better. We offered the deal with Vinny as a matter of convenience for our collectors -- the UK is all the way over there, etc. :) So we offered that deal before we realized folks would ask about Erin, which was dumb because they asked about her for IT. Then we didn't offer Glenn at the same time as Erin because no one was supposed to know about Glenn. But then we started hearing from customers who had heard from someone who heard from someone, and we wanted to get ahead of any rumors/discussions. And then those emails turned into questions of, "Well, can he remarque my book, too?"

So I definitely agree it wasn't ideal at all. And Kate and Mindy especially agree because they've had to spent several full days for each round of remarques manually charging orders, which is not a lot of fun.

We did hear from collectors who appreciated the spacing out of the costs because it let them "reload" their bank accounts and I am really thrilled it worked out well for them. :)

Yeah, I can definitely see that as a positive. You know there's no making all the customers happy; there's a rule against that, something about a tower falling and the end of the multiverse before it happens.

Brian

I love 'em, I got 'em .. th whole trifecta - thanks CD (Mindy particularly) and the artists !!!

I think the first hardcover of JOYLAND will be a Dutch publication, so it will not be in English.

As for remarques. The only way I would buy them is if I had ordered two copies of the book being remarqued, so I could have one 'pristine', 'never opened' copy. And since I already ordered only one of each of the DOCTOR SLEEP editions, and since I couldn't afford two copies of any of them anyway, I will not be getting any remarques. But such is life, and I can live with that.

Hey guys!

I'm not going to shill for my new site on here (much) after this post, but I wanted to let you know about Boy's Life being on sale for $3.79, the 999 anthology being on sale for $3.79, and The Da Vinci Code being FREE this week:

The Da Vinci Code gets a lot of grief, but if you separate it from the hype, it's a perfectly serviceable, fun thriller.

I didn't buy these but wanted to point out something that may have slipped by some of the people buying Chadbournes remarque.

Chadbourne only has artwork in the gift edition of these books, correct?

If so why would you want him to remarque the other editions?

When I was looking for clarification on this yesterday, I was thinking exactly the same thing. A Chadbourne remarque would look very out of place in a Lettered or S/L, I would think.

Yeah, we're getting so few copies that we just offered them to our Collectors Club and they sold out in a few minutes, if I remember correctly. There have been a lot of King books this year, so it's hard to remember. ;) But I do know out allotment is gone. Sorry!

Did the Chadbourne Remarque offer sell out?

I think Mindy is waiting to hear back from the first 100 people who emailed to make sure all of the payments come in before declaring it sold out. On the last two, there were usually 5 to 10 people who didn't pay, so Mindy then sold those slots to the next customers in (virtual) line!
