View Full Version : Member Map!!

I am almost done with all the features you guys. I had a plan in my mind on what I wanted to see out here and with the addition of about two more things, we'll be done.

There is a "member map" in the tool bar above, very self explainatory so please go out and add yourself.

There are 4 different types of entries and I would like to also place King landmarks and the like up there. Basically we could have a "landmark" for Bangor and the pic could be SK's house, the link could be to the Bangor Chamber or something.

Its designed to work within the gallery but it doesn't have to be that way. I am hoping we can post our pics for it in an album on the gallery, then use that URL for the pic on the map. It will create a circular reference here on the site so folks don't go off site for image info.

Not to mention, a click on your pic will bring you to the gallery to view the rest of a persons images.

So have fun, post questions here. :grouphug:

There is not a "member map"

Ooops--missed a setting.

Try it again now :D

I am now but, it's saying I have to fill in all the fields and I don't know how to do that.

Matt
06-26-2007, 07:16 AM
The "marker title" at the top is required, same with the type.

I totally skipped the first field when I first did it so hopefully that is all it is.

Very easy to miss up there.

Thanks for helping me test this Brice

Brice
06-26-2007, 07:25 AM
I just totally made up the other categories to fill it up. Well, it worked. :D

I'm happy to help. I just wish I was able to be around to help more.

Even though it could go straight to my address, I made my mark general over the town.

Not to mention, people know my first and last name and could find me under dex anytime they wanted.

Everyone knows I have a big dog

I got mine up there (Nor California). Added my mug to the image tab.

It looks as though anyone could edit others info.

Matt
06-26-2007, 07:44 AM
Looks great Jerome, thanks for doing that. :D

Its already looking kind of busy

I am going to begin adding landmarks as well. Hannah said the Eisenhower tunnel should be on there---totally cool idea

I noticed you are an event instead of a member.

Actually no--only admin can edit and I changed Jerome to a member :couple:

MonteGss
06-26-2007, 07:55 AM
Matt, I have a couple pictures of 46th and 2nd if you want some.
No worries though...
I can post them from my Photobucket if you want. :)
Just tell me where.

MonteGss
06-26-2007, 08:03 AM
Jerome is still showing as an event on my Member Map. Also, I was able to edit my marker.
FYI

Matt
06-26-2007, 08:04 AM
If you could post them here, I would love to harvest them and add them to the "landmarks" category in the gallery.

Also, could you see if you can edit my entry on the map Monte? its a test for members, I may have missed a setting.

Should be able to edit your own, just not say...mine or anyone elses

MonteGss
06-26-2007, 08:07 AM
Matt, I moved you to the Gulf of Mexico.
If you click on List Elements, it will have the Edit option for everything listed.

Matt
06-26-2007, 08:13 AM
I fixed the edit thing. Still there for the entire admin team, gone for the rank and file member.

Thanks for the help on the test.

You can stick them here Monte. We can delete them out after I save a copy for the gallery if it screws up the page view. :D

No problem, I really appreciate it.

Matt
06-26-2007, 08:28 AM
beautiful!! I got a copy of that one.

Any idea what the address is so I can place it on the right spot on the map?

I can't wait to see NY zoomed in that way.

MonteGss
06-26-2007, 08:47 AM
I don't know the correct street address. Of the four corners of 46th and 2nd though, Hammarskjold Plaza is on the side/corner closest to 1st avenue and 47th. Did that make sense?

Matt
06-26-2007, 09:04 AM
Sure, that should really help. The map goes all the way to the street level so I want to make sure I put these in the right spot.

I really appreciate the help Monte.

I also somehow put The Stanley Hotel on twice-help!

Matt

Its in Colorado as far as I know

I'll look at the Stanley, thanks for adding stuff Jerome :couple:

Matt

If you are an admin and go into "list elements" there should be an option to delete the spare in there. :D

Not to sound as though the USA is the center of the universe, but why does the map start in Europe?

I put it on the center line for the planet so everyone could feel like it was for them.

Woohoo!! Someone off the continent.

I think that pic I have of you in "about us" is too big to link to

That is why your little tag on the map screen goes so far you can't see the tabs at the top. I will size it down a bit and re host it out in the gallery.

ZoNeSeeK

I am about to upgrade the member map to the newest version you guys, should give some functionality that we have not had before.

I am told all the data will be saved so those of you who have already added yourselves should not have to do it again. :couple:

Those of you who haven't added yourself...well, there will be a newer, coolio place to do it.

ZoNeSeeK

*spleeeee*

ZoNeSeeK, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Hrm, my profile is just wacky!

Matt
08-14-2007, 07:52 PM
You are correct, it is wacky

but in this instance, its because I have shut it down on everyone for the upgrade of the map.

I actually but your user group back to just "facilitator" to see if it changed everything back.

 Have you been overdosing on The Simpsons Movie?

Matt
08-15-2007, 06:43 AM
My dear friends--

The new member map is actually a version that is specifically designed for members only. That last one we had was actually something a little different that was designed to list events and get togethers--I may put the updated version of it on later.

The reason I changed it at all is because the version we were using had some serious holes in it as we could all see. This one will allow things like member groups--but it still has a few bugs. The author of the code is working on an updated release. They are very minor.

What it can do is pretty fun though.

-has a link to the users profile in there
-I can set it so registered members can only edit their own (not possible on the other one)
-I am going to add a little "postbit" that says "find me" that when clicked will take people to that spot on the map.
-You can easily link your marker in your sig if you like
-We can use photos from the gallery to populate the image tab.
-The next version is going to have a "proximity" calculate to show the distances between members.

Now, the down side is that this is a different product and did not hold on to the existing markers.

Please re add yours and let me know if there are problems--this is all in an effort to get the best products possible for the site.

Much love,
Matt

Daghain

Daghain
08-15-2007, 08:27 AM
That was the weird thing. I clicked on Fort Collins (I even zoomed in enough to make sure I had the right spot). When I finished and map re-drew itself, I was in Argentina.

Once I clicked Fort Collins again it moved, though. It was very strange.

It doesn't appear to be working. Isn't it supposed to be showing little icons showing where everyone is who entered their location?

Matt

Ok, I added a pin to the map. Zoom in all the way if you want, it is in a very geographically accurate location.

you live near pizza my heart?

Yeah, it's about a mile and a half from my house, Sarah. I love their pizza above any other.

You were in my neck of the woods and didn't tell me? Maybe it was at the same time that I was in Disneyland with sarajean unbeknownst to each other.

There is no way I'm going to pinpoint my home on something as precise as Google Earth on a website (this one) that is viewable anonymously by the general public who don't even need to take the basic step of registering as a member.

Other than that, I think it would be fun to use for everyone to point out local areas of interest.

Honestly, I do not believe it is possible to be private on this planet any longer.
Did you know that the satellite used to create the images you see on this map are quite out dated, and that it is possible that images could be genereated today that would be MUCH closer than what can be seen here, and LIVE too, Now thats what I call crazy!
Anyway, I imagine that if someone from this site were to knock on my door, I'd be so excited, my reaction would likely frighted them!!:nana:

Jon
01-14-2008, 05:39 AM
LOL No The trees were Chinese Elm and they are useless, nasty trees. ( I know this, I am a tree geek. I will often take a leaf and a bark sample from a given tree home and key it out to discover it's species.)

One of these tree, when I cut into a secondary trunk line, poured upward a stream of water about as big around as my great toe for about two minutes!...upward!! This wood is way too wet to be used as firewood and if used in a structure, the drying will cause shrinking and will fuck up your frame.
