My name is Jerome. I was born many years ago in Alabama. When I was 2 years old my mother left my abusive Father, taking my brother and me to California. In my childhood years we moved often. At around 10 years of age we settled in California for good. I have lived in California ever since. For the last 36 years I have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, the last 11 years in Antioch.
For 30 years I worked in the grocery business.
My wife Dolores and I have 5 children ranging in age from 11-25 years old.
I have been a King fan since the late 70's, a collector since the late 80's and a Dark Tower fan from day one.
I enjoy traveling, reading, cooking, the NFL and was an early adopter of High Definition TV-thus I enjoy most anything broadcast in high definition.

Hey Jerome! :)

What type of Music do you listen to?

Do you have a favorite musician/band? If so, who?

What's your favorite movie ever?

What's your favorite non-king book?

What other authors do you read/collect?

What was the first collectible book you bought?

The same evil question I asked Patrick; if circumstance made it such that you could only keep one book what would it be?

If you could be anywhere right now, where would you go?

Hey there Jerome. :)

I always enjoy seeing the pictures of the cool places you and your lovely wife visit.

Brice already asked the favorite band question. Good answer by the way. I love CCR (some of theirs were among the first batch of songs I learned to play).

Here come a few more music questions...

Do you play any instruments?

If so, which one(s) and for how long?

If not, which one instrument would you most like to learn to play?

What is your favorite concert that you've seen?

If you could see any band/artist (past or present) live in concert, who would it be?

Do you have a favorite live music venue?

And a couple of sports questions...

Do you think the Raiders will win a game before Novemeber? (I know they won't next week as they play my Jets :P)

As a Raiders' fan, how do you feel in general about Al Davis, and how do you feel about his firing of Lane Kiffin?

That's all. Thank you very much for taking the time to answer these questions and also for all you do for the forum, it's much appreciated! :)

Hi Brice

Thanks! I've never heard of Rex Miller. I've read some stuff by the others. I may have to check him out.

His story "Slob" is fantastic. It features a preternatural 350 LB. serial killer named Daniel "Chaingang" Bunkowski.
Here's the same ones I asked everyone else the other morning:

What is the cruelest thing that was ever done to you?

At the time it happened, I felt my first wife leaving me was the cruelest thing. It turned out to be a blessing.

What is the kindest thing that anyone's ever done for you?

Forgive me for my transgression(s)

What is the cruelest thing you've ever done?

Too many to consider, though once when ~15 years old my friends and I strung a rope 4" off the ground just at dusk so it was hidden and tripped my brother when he was running full speed. He fell face first onto an concrete. driveway

What is the kindest thing you've ever done?

Gave someone who was in financial difficulty a substantial amount of money. Also I have gone to San Francisco during the holiday season and distributed $50 bills to homeless people
And:

Who produced your favorite album?

Marvin Gay-"Whats Going on?"

What's the best concert you've ever been to?

Two: I saw Bruce Spingsteen do an acoustic solo concert in Berkeley at a theater that sat ~400 people. Very intimate. He primarily played from his "The Ghost of Tom Joad" album, but also covered his greatest hits. It was just Bruce, his acoustic guitar and a microphone.
The second was backstage passes and front row seats that through serendipity landed in my hands, to see Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis JR.

And good morning to you too.

Good morning.

Hi Karen!!

Hey sweetness!!!

Dave took my question about the whoopie! Dammit

How did you and your wife meet?

We met at Gemco (It was Lucky Stores equivalent of Walmart in the 1980's. I worked in the "separate" grocery part at the back of the store. She managed the softlines department. I was too shy to ask her out, so I had a coworker do it for me.
How did you propose?

Actually quite terribly. I said "Dolores, I'm only going to ask you this one time, and if you say no, I'll never ask it again-Will you marry me?"
Where did you go for your honeymoon?

San Diego
Is it the thrill of the hunt or the satisfaction at the end?

Satisfaction.
When are you coming to visit me?

October, 2009
What kind of car do you drive?

My daily driver is a 1999 Chrysler LHS-functional but boring. My fun car is a convertible Mercedes 600SL. 12 cylinders and very fast
What kind of car would you like to own if you could own anyone?

Realistically-a 2009 Acura TL. Fantasy-Mercedes Mclaren
Favorite desert?

Pineapple upside down cake with vanilla ice cream on top.

Favorite TV show?

Dexter. Although I much prefer live sports to TV shows.
Favorite cartoon from childhood?

Scooby Doo.
What do you want to be when you grow up?

Relaxed.
Huggles :couple:
Hi Daghain!

Hi Jerome!

Favorite color?

Black Rose
Paper or plastic? Why?

Paper. When I started in the grocery business there was no plastic. We had paper bags designated by #'s. We called them 4's. 8's 12's 420's 735's and the largest was an 86-or barrel bag.
If you could own any car in the world, what would it be?

Mercedes Mclaren
What's your favorite place to hang out?

Barclay's in Oakland. It's a tap house. Exotic place would be poolside bar at The Fairmont Hotel on Maui.

What's the best thing to do on Maui? Do you like to fish?

Watch the sunset from your lanai. I don't fish much but have enjoyed salmon fishing outside the gate (San Francisco Golden gate)
Can you surf? Have you been to the top of a mountain?

Not well. Yes I have been atop many mountains, including Glacier Point in Yosemite National Park. I have also watched the sunrise atop Haleakala Volcano on Maui.
What is the best romantic date for you and your wife?

Almost once a month we go to San Francisco. We have cocktails at a cool place called Bix. It's like a 1950's supper club. Dark, cool, great ambiance, good music. We then have dinner at the Helmand. It's the best Afghan food I've ever had.

What was the first book you ever loved?

The Stand.

Hey there Jerome. :)

Hello.
I always enjoy seeing the pictures of the cool places you and your lovely wife visit.

Brice already asked the favorite band question. Good answer by the way. I love CCR (some of theirs were among the first batch of songs I learned to play).

Here come a few more music questions...

Do you play any instruments?

Tried the guitar for 6 months and wasn't very good. So No.
If so, which one(s) and for how long?

If not, which one instrument would you most like to learn to play?

My Cujo guitar
What is your favorite concert that you've seen?

I mentioned upthread-Bruce Spingsteen acoustic solo and Frank Sinatra and the Rat pack
If you could see any band/artist (past or present) live in concert, who would it be?

Marvin Gay. Bless his soul.
Do you have a favorite live music venue?

No. Any place small and intimate will do. I used to like Winterland in San Francisco, but is is long defunct.
And a couple of sports questions...

Do you think the Raiders will win a game before Novemeber? (I know they won't next week as they play my Jets :P)

No. They are shamefully bad right now.
As a Raiders' fan, how do you feel in general about Al Davis, and how do you feel about his firing of Lane Kiffin?

Al Davis was a genius, but similar to Howard Hughes, he is now old, crazy, and disfunctional. The firing of Kiffin was sadly comical.
That's all. Thank you very much for taking the time to answer these questions and also for all you do for the forum, it's much appreciated! :)

My pleasure.

Are you really expecting there to be spoilers in your thread?

We will see.

FEVER!

Hey Jerome! :)

Do/did you play video games with your children? If so, what's your favorite game to play?

I don't play video games with them, but I do play arcade games with them. I own several arcade games inlcuding a Ms. Pacman coctail, Zazzon, 1943 and a Mr. Do. I whip their butts at those games.
What movie(s) can you watch over and over without getting tired of it/them?

All of the Clint Eastwood spaghettiwesterns, The Godfather trilogy. Predator, to name a few.
Besides Football, which other sporting events have you attended?

I am looking forward to meeting also.

"Are you upset that I don't believe in you?"

If he actually answers does that change anything?

No.
So...what do you think happens when you die? Are you just wormfood?

Hopefully. Worms need to eat too.

What is your holy grail? Both as a Stephen King book and just any book overall?

S/L The Stand

If you could change anything in your past, would you?

Yes.
Who in your life do you most admire?

You.

Hiya, Jerome! :D

I haven't seen it asked yet, so boxers or briefs? Why?

Calvin Klein Boxer/Briefs-black. Best of both designs.
You mentioned you'd been arrested before - details, man!

DUI 25 years ago. Charges were dropped as I had two breathalyzer attempts and one was .01 below and the second was at the legal limit. I didn't even have to get an attorney, I just was notified via mail. I lucked out. Nonetheless going to jail is certainly a lowlight.
What # is your Cujo guitar? (As an aside, my brother - a phenominal guitar player - was here for the weekend and played mine for a while. It sounded soooo much better than when I try!)

It is a Cujo-10 #113/125. I have it on display in my formal living room. Mine sounds great too. It keeps tune forever, and has great tonal quality.
What t-shirt do you own that you can't wear in public - and why?

None. If I own it, I have no fear of wearing it.
Favorite Afghan food?

Aushak
Favorite meal of all time?

Afghan
What was the toughest hole you've filled in your SK collection (think CLEAN!)? Is there anything you don't have now that you're on the lookout for?

Probably my Zippered Leather bound Skeleton Crew. It was only tough as it was expensive. There are several King items I don't have, and likely never will as I won't spend the money on them-Lettered Firestarter, S/L DTI, My Pretty Pony Whitney edition, Lettered Regulators are the significant ones.
Have you ever considered moving out of CA? If so, where would you like to live?

Considered it mnay times, but it is unlikely. Perhaps Hawaii.

Barclay's in Oakland. It's a tap house. ...:D

Hey Jerome!

Hi Patrick!
Do you have any idea how seriously impressed I am with how hard you've worked to become so much healthier? I'm really proud of you.

Thanks. It's nice to hear people acknowledge it.
What is your second-favorite beer?

Green Flash West Coast IPA.
In thirty years in the grocery industry, how many times did you hear lame jokes about squeezing the Charmin?

Thankfully not as many as one would imagine.
Do the young people these days have any idea who the hell Mr. Whipple was?

No.
When you say "semi-retired", what is the "semi-" part?

I earn an income, but I don't work.
Do you think Stephen King could smell the alcohol on us even though we were way up in the balcony?

No. But everyone around us could.
How many of the kids are still living at home? Two?

Yes. The 11 year old and the 19 year old.
After leaving your father so many years ago, did your mom ever remarry?

Yes. For 5 years. I still see my stepfather frequently. In fact he visited over the weekend.
Did we scare Joe Hill away from the Bay Area for good? :(

Apparantly.:(

Hello dear. Wish you were coming to Vegas.
What is your middle name?

Jerome
WHat is the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you?

So many, too many. How about when at an important Company Meeting, with hundreds in attendance I had a digestive problem and soiled myself-obviously accidentaly, but nonetheless rather messily.

Wow, everyone's pulling out all the good questions straight off the bat!

I'd also like to congratulate you on your lifestyle change, I'm trying myself right now and I'm finding it hard - so major kudos and a big hug to you, Jerome :huglove:

Thanks so much. Good luck to you. If I can offer any advice please ask.
Of the classics, what's your favourite book?

I could say The Odyssey, but I would be lying. I haven't read any of the classics. Of more modern books I have read Huckleberry Finn
Name a book, or author, you don't think alot of people have read but really ought to.

Dan Simmons-Song of Kali, Lovedeath, Prayers to Broken Stoes, Entropy's Bed at Midnight (Short story, must read), The Hollow Man (Notice I am pimping Simmon's early works, I can't say enough about them). Rex Miller-Slob, John Shirley-Heatseeker
Who's your favourite artist?

Frances Palermo and Bill Paskewitz. (http://www.bpaskewitz.com/) Both are local artists that have done originals for me. Not only paintings but multimedia. To name a famous artist I would say Salvadore Dali.
Do you get hangovers? If so, what's your hangover cure?

Rarely, but when I do, it's tough. The cure is time and have 1 drink then go to bed. The next day (two days after drinking) you feel great
Do you visit any sites other than this one?

Yes.
Out of ALL your possessions, if you had to give everything away and could only keep one thing - what would it be?

My sanity. Why keep one physical thing when you have given everything else away?

I'm fine. Just a very wierd thing, that I haven't revealed to more than a handful of people. The 60's were a different world.

Did you have any crushes on any of your school teachers?

Not really. Most were men-or ugly. Although there was this one time.......

The best part was meeting people I know here face to face. The party was awesome! Zero tension-all fun:cool:

Whew! I'm late!!! I hope the bar's still open!!!!

If these have been asked already, I cry pardon:

1. If there was a movie made about you, what genre would you want it to be?

2. Who would play "you"?

3. If you could "live out" someone's sports career, who would it be--past or present? Why?

4. Ginger or Mary Ann?

:D
