She is know for her contributions to NPR and for her time spent as a writer and cast member of Mystery Science Theater 3000. Her name is Mary Jo Pehl, and last night, she was a dinner guest in my home.

She and her boyfriend, Ronald, are in town for Ronald's corporate training. The two have been staying in a corporate apartment, and eating corporate cafeteria food for a week. Since I had met Ronald online, and he had seen my website, He accepted my invitation to dinner.

I grilled four personal pizzas using real mozzerella cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, and cabarnet marinera. This was followed by Oaxaca style grilled corn, and grilled chicken breasts marinated in Steven's, "The Only Marinade You'll Ever Need".

This was the hit of the night. "It's like butter!" She commented as she cut into the plump, juicy chicken breast. The chicken was tender as could be, and tasted wonderful.

This was followed by grilled pound cake. Ronald commented before leaving, "You really are a grillslinger."

By the time the two of them left for the night, Mary Jo was asking about what kind of grill to by, and she left with a copy of Indoor Grilling, which she couldn't wait to read.

It's great to spread the joy of grilling!

Hi Grillslinger! This thread accidentally posted twice, this one and another without working pictures. I deleted the other and left this one. :D

BTW, awsome post! Sounds like you guys had a blast!

This is the new thread to share your stories about meeting celebrities. Ever met Tom Cruise? Seen Bruce Willis from a distance? Ever had a dinner date with a TV star like Grillslinger above? Heck, have you ever even just seen the local weatherman while at the movie theatre? If so, share your story here! I'm interested to read about all the famous people all you fellow .com-er's have met.

As for me, I know I posted this elsewhere already, but earlier this summer, I had the chance to meet one of my favorite authors, Chuck Palahniuk. Here is the picture of us together (ignore the horrible quality, my flash didn't go off for some annoying reason and I was only allowed one photo because of the others in line behind me)
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y129/MidWorldGirl/MeandChuck.jpg

As for other celebrities I've seen in real-life, I've met the professional wrestler Goldberg, met Carson Dailey (whoop-te-do) and once in Vegas while walking down the halls of the Bellagio, my sister and I saw the guy who played the oldest brother on the TV show 7th Heaven. I think his name is Barry Watson or something like that.

I met Davey Havoc from the band AFI once upon a time, but it was in a dark club in the middle of a concert and I have no pictures of it. That is about the extent of my celbrity meeeting.

He's also a really nice guy, and suprisingly soft spoken. He spent all of Samhain's set talking to people in the crowd and signing stuff for people. He seemed sort of embarrassed to be doing autographs.

I shook Lewis Grizzard's hand once. I was also the first one to the church for his funeral and got to sit in the church almost at the front.

Met Rick & Bubba way too many times. For those of you in the Houston area, Tuttle & Kline (they have also been in some movie called Lightening Bug). I've eaten lunch with Curtis Pride, a former Atlanta Braves player who is deaf. And the weatherman on the NBC affiliate here is my cousin and I terrorized him for many years.

i'm sure you would.

let's see...i interviewed jerry only, spent a christmas with one of the vandals, went christmas shopping with another of the vandals, smoked...stuff...with some of less than jake, got some of the other members of less than jake to play a song they rarely play (and i had to help them remember most of the words) on their tour bus, hugged milo, never ever paid to get into a cherry poppin' daddies show, and...i know there are more but i can't think of them right now.

oh, and i almost got into a fistfight with monique from save ferris.

(i realize some of those aren't punk, but the show were all at the same places)

Haha. You probably should have went ahead and punched Monique Powell. :)
What was the near fistfight over?

I met the guys from that metalcore act normajean when they played a show here at a place I used to help with shows. Disappointing all around.

I was going to go to a small local show a number of years back and didn't get to for some reason. Against Me! was there along with a few other plan-it-x bands. This was back before they signed to Fat Wreck and started sucking.
I'm sure I would have met them had I went, because it was avery small venue and most bands who came through there hung around.

I'd like to meet any of The Vandals, I bet they are pretty entertaining. The same goes for Less Than Jake.
And Milo.....I just found one of my Descendants CDs a while back(Everything Sucks) and have been listening to it like crazy.

um...monique's a big fat bitch, isn't that enough? no? okay, well, it was my friend's birthday, and she was all drunk at a show and tripped and spilled her beer on him...just kept walking, didn't even apologize. i yelled something at her as she walked away, and she turned around and did the whole "um...don't you know who i am?" thing, which just pissed me off even more.

i had to be led away.

Haha. That's great. I never saw them live, but while they were a good band, she always did seem like she would be a bitch. Have you ever seen her website? All of her pictures look like she thinks she's so rockstar. It is pretty funny because few people even know who she is.

Let's see, met Matchbox 20,and bs'd with em for awhile. Then later that night, I ran into the bass player from Hootie and the BLO fish (literally) and almost got in fight with him, later that night the drummer asked if I wanted to go to a party (I think it was a set up). Met several heavy metal bands on their way up, u probably haven't heard of half of them. Man I know there's more....OH....ya...Less Claypool...HOW could I forge LEss!

Dude, isn't that funny, I don't know how I forgot about Less, it was one of the biggest moments of my life. I think it must be that the conversation was about 90% about fishing (I think). After Less kinda realized I wasn't begging for an autograph (which I got one at the end anyway), we just started BSing about fishing. Let's see, I believe it was at Primus show (of course) probably a year before the Flying Frog Brigade. That's about all I remember.

OH, I met Hulk Hogan.

Sorry I don't have any pics as proof, but I'd rather jst shake their hand and BS if there bored of the spotlight.

Ok. This post is looooong overdue (sorry Sarah!).

But anways, this past September, I went to DragonCon in Atlanta. It's a big sci-fi/fantasy/costuming convention that's held annually. I had so much fun. Three huge hotels hosted the convention and there were events taking place from 8 in the morning until 3am. Basically, the convention is a big place for geeks to get together and have a big old party.

I saw all sorts of amazing costumes, many of which people made from scratch. I got to see an independent horror film called The Signal (it's a lot like King's Cell) before it's even been released to theatres, went to a question and answer session with Kari, Torrey and Grant from Mythbusters, went to a question and answer session with James and Oliver Phelps and Matthew Lewis from Harry Potter, meet David Prowse (the actor who played Darth Vader), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), Spike from Buffy and all sorts of other awesome stuff.

Probably the highlight of the convention, however, happened while I was waiting for an elevator. I was alone in the hallway when a man and woman walked up beside me. I glanced over the woman was Gates McFadden (Dr. Crusher from Star Trek: Next Generation)!! Her assistant was with her. She saw me looking at her, so she introduced herself and asked how I was enjoying the convention. Just then, two other men walked up, Jonathan Frakes (Commander Riker) and Brent Spiner (Data)! Brent Spiner saw that I was holding my autographed Harry Potter picture and asked me if I had read the final book yet. I said yes and he asked my opinion on it. We spent the next few minutes discussing the book. He was super friendly and down to Earth. Just about this time, the elevator door finally opened (the waits for the elevators were insane) and I started to get on with them when Gates McFadden's assistant put his arm in front of me and said I could wait for the next one. Jonathan Frakes stopped him and said "Man, let her on". I reached my floor before theirs and when I got off, they all said "Nice to meet you" and told me to have fun the rest of the weekend. It was so so so cool.

Another highlight was meeting James and Oliver Phelps (the Weasley twins) and Matthew Lewis (Neville) from the Harry Potter movies. They were incredibly friendly as well. Plus in real life, Matthew Lewis was super super hot. He explained in the question and answer session that he wears a fat suit and fake teeth in the movies as well as makeup to make his skin look worse.

Anyways, here are a ton of pictures from the long weekend.

Darrin and a Klingon (he later stood outside on a busy downtown Atlanta street with a sign that said "I will kill you for food"

This is me & Brian O'Halloran. Met him, Bryan Johnson and Walt Flanagan at the Wizard Convention in Philly one year. Bryan & Walt were running the View Askew booth and Brian was signing action figures. Me & my friend were just kinda standing there staring at Bryan hahaha, and he calls us over and offers us tickets to the Kevin Smith Q&A. They were free anyway but at least we didn't have to stand in line, that rocked! And that is why Steve Dave is now my favorite chracter. No pictures with him though, I was too shy to ask :(

I guess it's kind of like a travelog of his adventures of abandoned places, forgotten towns & just random quirky stuff. (not to be confused with Weird NJ, he hates that  )

Look how great she looks!!!!!!

Thats very nice of all but I am a geezer not a rock star...
Turtle I have met Pearl Jam and did work with them on several occasions,
but I had a falling out with them very early as (not to burst any bubble) they developed some fat heads in their early days and never felt the buddy buddy picture thing.
I understand that they have changed back to being a little more humble these days...:)

Now these guys on the other hand, were always a pleasure and a damn riot to hang with
(unless their wives were around..:huglove:)

I won't even ask why you have a picture of you with naked Eddie Veddor. I REALLY don't want to know.

I see nothing but a red x also.

Is anyone else gonna post a picture...I'm getting sick of looking at my own fat head.

I don't think I have any pics with anyone famous. I suspect with consideration for your old job that you're gonna' have way more of that type of pic than everyone else combined...though I know before this thread was started there have been some similar pics posted.

I was never much of one to take pictures of myself and celebrities. **List of celebrities I have met and not taken pics with for one reason or another:
Michael Clarke Duncan (John Coffey)
Christopher Lambert (Connor MacLeod)
David Prowse (Darth Vader)
Jeremy Bullock (Boba Fett)
Warwick Davis (Wicket)
Kenny Baker (R2D2)
Anthony Daniels (C3PO)

I have one pic of me and a celebrity (of sorts) and here it is. Me (on the right), my wife (on the left), and Him.

Sam

I once had a Captain who made that way of life a regular thing. She once called me up literally as I was walking out the door to go to work to tell me to take the day off. Seeing as how I worked nights and this was 6pm, it nearly ruined my entire evening. I was fortunate that my GF(now my wife) actually wanted to get together with me on such short notice (like call her and say, "Hey, turns out I don't have to work, want to meet me at your place?)

Brice
