"Town of Anthropic"

Atlantis, Eden?

NemelChelovek
08-23-2008, 12:39 AM
"Town of Anthropic Pastures," not "Town of Anthropic." Neither Atlantis nor Eden have anything to do with the answer, sorry.

I'm sure that's wrong.

Good riddle, NC, and good to see ya again.

'Tisn't addiction, Sir Blaze. Sorry.

And Jonwalter...I will get an avatar as soon as I figure out a way to get my Homsar/Crimson King one off my old computer.

Are the titles, as in Oh, the Bunyip's going to get you in the Bunyip moon, a part of these riddles and if not, how are they thrown in?

NemelChelovek
08-23-2008, 09:05 PM
Oftentimes the titles in Riddles are completely non-sequitur, having absolutely nothing to do with the riddle in question. Such is the case here.

Why does "Appian Way" seem to come to mind?

Jon
08-24-2008, 08:26 PM
I reckon we need to just pick this one apart.

I will ponder the "Outsider my God."

NemelChelovek
08-25-2008, 07:11 PM
Madam Oy: I don't know why Appian Way comes to mind. Then again, I don't know what Appian Way is.

Jonwalter: You may have picked the trickiest part to figure out. That's the part that I expect will trip most people up. Anyone who knows to what that section refers is likely to understand it almost immediately. Anyone who doesn't is likely to have quite a time figuring it out. I'll give you a teeny tiny hint: the section you've chosen might not be as abstract as you think, dear sir.

I have yet to see anything touching upon the answer.

Do you know me?

Gonna try to deduce this from my thoughts and request follow up help...

Some type of automobile, Truck or SUV for the following reasons:

Exhaust my source... Owned until traded, sold or junked

Long paved road: Autobahn comes to mind, making me think a German car

Wrong-Front and pastures makes me think again an automobile and a junk yard

Juice of legume could be oil as in peanut oil

I have no clue on the last abstract one

NemelChelovek
08-25-2008, 10:42 PM
Automobile of any type is incorrect.

And the last one is not nearly as abstract as people are interpreting it. In fact, it's one of the most literal of the clues. Just...more obscure.

Idol?

False Prophet?

Cow?

NemelChelovek
08-26-2008, 05:26 PM
Idol: Nope

False Prophet: Nay

Cow: Nein

I'll give you all another small hint. Part of the riddle is a pun--but which part?--and figuring out which part it is and what the pun is a play on may give you a clue (but not the answer).

NemelChelovek
08-26-2008, 06:03 PM

Keep guessing people, you now have a piece of the puzzle.

Town of ANTHROPIC Pastures= MANchester? (stretching here)

Nay sir. Manchester only fits one part of that clue (anthropic), rather than the whole thing.

Town of Anthropic Pastures=Mansfield Park

NemelChelovek

Close, but no cigar. You are assuming that the Town of Anthropic Pastures refers specifically to a place.

leaveittobeezer
08-26-2008, 06:56 PM
last guess before i hit the hay, anything having to do with Jane Austen's Mansfield Park or fanny price in specific (although I don't quite see how that fits the rest of the clues)

NemelChelovek
08-26-2008, 06:58 PM
Nope. I don't even know what Fanny Price is, and I've never read Jane Austen.

VastOne: "Portsmouth" is what is meant by "Marina's Maw." However, "Manchester" is not involved in this riddle in any way, and the clue is "I am not a wrong-front," not "wrong foot." Also, as I said before, the answer to the entire riddle has nothing to do with soccer/football. One of the clues is soccer/football related, as has already been figured out, but the answer you get from that clue must work for all of the other clues as well. It will make sense when all is revealed.

Pele is not the answer.

k i think i've got it

I belong only to he who is willing to exhaust my source.
Not sure quite how it fits here

A long road was paved and kept in my honor.
Referring to China trade route

I am not a wrong-front, and after dwelling in the Marina's Maw I went on to the Town of Anthropic Pastures.
Last name of the Right-Back (not wrong-front) of Mansfield Town (formerly of
Portsmouth)

I am the juice of a legume that tries not to be seen as such.
A brand of soy milk

The outsider my god one im not sure of, but is the answer...silk?

DING DING DING

Silk it is!

Beezer has the answer. Good job my friend!

Here's the breakdown:

"I belong only to he who is willing to exhaust my source."
To get silk you need a silkworm's cocoon, but in taking the cocoon you kill the worm. Hence, you can't get anymore silk from it. The source is exhausted simply by taking it.

"A long road was paved and kept in my honor."
China's Silk Road.

"I am not a wrong-front, and after dwelling in the Marina's Maw I went on to the Town of Anthropic Pastures."

Right-back Gary Silk of Mansfield Town FC, formerly of Portsmouth FC.

"I am the juice of a legume that tries not to be seen as such."

Silk is a brand of soy-milk. Since soy beans don't have mammary glands, it's technically soy JUICE, but no one would drink something with a name like that.

"Though I did not desire rulership, I governed in the name of the Outsider my god. That might help you guess what I am called, eh?"

This was the trickiest one. In Gene Wolfe's series "The Book of the Long Sun," all the male characters are named after animals or animal products, while females are named after plants or plant products. The central character is a priest who is enlightened by a god known as "The Outsider," and because of this divine contact he is eventually elected ruler of his city. Their world for ruler is "Caldé." (called, eh?) The character in question is named...Silk.

A big silky goose for LITB. Thanks to everyone who contributed!

(And VastOne...I'm sorry if it seemed like I was mocking you. I wasn't.)
