I didn't know where to throw this...if it's in the wrong place, can someone move it please!

Bett's bookstore was robbed on Monday, haven't heard if any books were taken, i dont think so some guy walked in with a gun and a knife and Kira was there and took the money out of the register and then asked her for HER wallet which had 150 bucks, not sure how much was in the register but... wow huh? The day we were there... Guess it was on the news and in the papers, Kira's ok he didn't do anything to her thankfully and she's not too shaken up which is good. Tough little cookie.

Article from WLBt2.com yesterday:
BANGOR (NEWS CENTER) -- Police say a man walked into Betts Bookstore on Hammond Street around 4 o'clock Monday afternoon, presented a weapon, and demanded money.

The store clerk followed his instructions.

Detective Paul Kenison say the robber got away with an undisclosed amount of money.

"He entered the store, looked at a book, spoke with the clerk and then eventually he told her what his intentions were and she didn't put up any resistance and gave him what he wanted and he exited the store and was last seen pedaling away on a blue bicycle," Kenison said.

The suspect is described as a man in his late teens or early twenties. He is about 6 feet tall with dark brown curly hair and a thin build. He was wearing baggy blue jeans, and a blue t-shirt with red and blue lettering. Anyone with information is asked to call Bangor police .

I am sorry to hear that. Nerak, If you find out how much was stolen, let us know. Perhaps we can do something for them if they did not have any insurance against this sort of thing.

Here's a message from Stu:

Hi Karen-

No, we don't have any coverage on it, but I was really only concerned about getting Kira's money back. We paid her back yesterday along with her weekly check, so she is whole again. Thanks so much for the thought!
Stu

So, who would be interested in donating some cash to help them re-coop? I would like to know before I start collecting money!

I didn't ask how much was in the register. But I would like to at least try to re-coop Kira's $150.

No it doesnt really mater, its just I am just tight for money at the moment
and well some of the members here may not have the ability to send $ at all.
And so, I was wondering what kind of $ we were talking about .Monday @ 4 pm
in a small town, Kira may have more money than the store took in. n/m.

True. I'm more than willing, though, to help restore Kira's money. I can't afford too much myself right now, but...

Karen,

I can throw in a little also.

That situation could have been much worse than it was. It is great that noone got hurt.

I'm willing to throw in some $, too. How should we do this?

Matt

If you guys want to raise a bit of money on behalf of the site, I would be willing to do that (donation bar, the whole bit).

We just have to organize a bit and have someone who is willing to be the point person.

If not, I'd be willing to kick in a few to whoever is collecting.

alinda

It would be good if it were an organized thing. Good thinking Matt ( as always)

money sent. i love paypal. maybe it's a little too convenient though. . . .

Matt

Looks like Karen has it.

I was talking about the donation bar if you were headed for a goal but the way you are doing it is much simpler...my plan was if we were doing it on behalf of the site. :fairy:

Nerak
08-19-2008, 05:32 PM
oh, sorry..jumped the gun, but it will still be on behalf of the site.

oh and btw, if you send the money to paypal, it will say you paid Helen. I used my ex mother-in-law's credit card to start the paypal account and never changed anything, so don't panic!

And thanks for the two donations so far.

Karen
