Don't post too often here, but I just have to make an exception for this item. We've all seen this before, so it might not mean much to most here, but to me it's beyond priceless, as this arrived as a gift - beyond awesome and THANK YOU to the most generous giver. You know who you are! Plus, it's my first flat-signed King.

Wow. That was my first (and only) flat signed King too. Nice.

Picked this up at the Currey sale. I'm impressed. Now if they would just get the Best of Two out...

and Stroppy. Yes, I'm seeing it too. Double doesn't bother me so much, but triple? I have just been putting everything coming in in bins. Now I'm trying to pack books for moving and decided to put all the Stephen King in one room, on the shelves so I can see what I got. Surprise! I don't always remember I already bought something. I can't wait to see what I have when I finish.

Today's mail...these BOMC magazines are special to me. When I was collecting years ago, I found these to be VERY hard to find as most people didn't hang on to these and few collectors had them. I was thankful to find all these in one lot from a bookseller who didn't even have them listed on his site.

Not sure if somebody can understand or follow me on my way - but owning a genuine part of a meteoroid , 5.6 Billion Years old (and by that older then earth itself) , impacted on earth 1 Million years ago was always a dream of me
especially if they have such an fantastic pattern as these have.

yes indeed, as most oktaedrites , they are mainly Fe & Ni, but contain Co, P, Ga, Ge and IR - have the exact composition if you wanna know, but nothing to special in there in terms of elements

Main KPIs are the mass, as the biggest one has 1.6kg at a heigh of 10cm , the age, and the widmanstätten pattern

Only a crazy collector can probably come up with the idea to
purchase the book again just because of the different signature colors.... :biggrin1:

It´s my birthday present for me.
My #3 book from the only German signed limited Ray Bradbury book: FEUERSÄULE
Publisher Edition Phantasia.
This time, RB signed the book with a light-blue pen.

My two older FEUERSÄULE books:
nr. 15 signed from Ray Bradbury in blue,
nr. 20 signed from Ray Bradbury in red.
The illustrator Lillian Mousli always unsed the same pen to sign.

As we all know, Cemetery Dance will soon be publishing an Artist Lettered, Limited and Gift Edition version of "The Shining" which will feature both Cover and Interior Illustrations by Don Maitz. 8 Illustrations (including cover) were done by Don and I am proud to bring you a sample of a few of the Illustrations you will find....

I have recently acquired 4 Original and 7 Preliminary paintings from the project as I have been speaking with Don at length over the course of the last several months while the pieces were being finalized.

Posted below are the pics of what I have received so far (2 Originals / 5 Prelims) as well as an 8.5 x 11 piece containing the very first pencil sketches from Don at the inception of the project.

Both Don and Brian from CD have granted permission for these pics to be posted and we hope that you enjoy seeing several of the illustrations. Perhaps for the very first time.

As you would expect, his work is extraordinary.

Oh, and the Overlook Hotel original painting that some of you saw in Florida has already been claimed. By the author…...

Enjoy.....will post pics of the other 2 Prelims and 2 Originals upon receipt.

Jonathan - I do not have much left in terms of magazines and there are a couple I would like to keep but if you PM me a list of what you need I can check if I have it. Same goes for Seth and/or anyone else who's looking for magazines. I don't have anything truly scarce left anymore (all my pre-Carrie stuff including Ubris, Contraband etcetera is long gone) but maybe I can help someone out.

Here is my small new pride & joy. Paul and I swapped two items from our collections but I suspect that he already sent this out before I even knew we were going to talk about it - how else could it have arrived this quickly?

[QUOTE=AKC;951143][COLOR="black"]As we all know, Cemetery Dance will soon be publishing an Artist Lettered, Limited and Gift Edition version of "The Shining" which will feature both Cover and Interior Illustrations by Don Maitz.

Dolso, does amazing things with wood. True, it can be a little pricey, but he will work with you on payments. Cases can also be made to mount on a wall. Something along these lines may be very cool.

http://imageshack.com/a/img600/2600/lotrcase002.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img812/922/lotrcase001.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img100/9035/labeldoc1.jpg

http://imageshack.com/a/img3/7656/engraving2doc1.jpg

The pics are just to give you an idea, but remember the case (s) would be custom made to your specifications and idea's. Obviously, the engraving shown would read "The Man in Black...." and the books could be broken up into several wall-mountable cases i.e. DT I-III, IV-VI, and VII-LSOE-WTTKH. At least it would display them very well and with the lifting lid, allow full access as needed.

IDK, something to consider. The cases can also feature table mounting abilities. If I had the wall space, I would already have one!!! Just a thought is all.

Drake69, you do know that the Talisman has to be replaced right? the copy you have is probably a first edition of a reprint and not a first edition original! Please replace it and take a new picture. A new arrival today, at first glance it looks GORGEOUS, but I'd like to ask opinions about the advertised condition of Fine/Fine. I'm not saying where I got this from because I think it's just oversight and that the seller will make this right, but I don't know how MUCH of an issue it is. First of all is the little scribble inside the rear Endpapers, which. That in itself though would take it out of Fine condition, no? And on the Dustjacket we've got some dye transfer, minor creasing and some strange texture, most clear on reverse side of the DJ. What would be closer to correct on this? VG for the Book and Good for the DJ, or are we still VG for the DJ? What do you all think?

If scribble is pen it is not going away. Pencil, and you might be able to remove it. The inside of the jacket might be dye carryover from it perhaps getting damp. I've seen "new" dust jackets and dye on the inside of the jacket. No idea how that would happen if the front of the jacket looks great. Extra ink from simply printing? I have seen it though. With a Mylar wrap you never see it and to me it doesn't destroy value. But with the bumping as shown, I think that would be water or dampness. Then again, that does kind of look like a marker pushed on the jacket and pulled down. Older books get a different grade, so for me this book is VG/VG.

I ran it through several cleanings and air-outs until I had every drop of moisture out of it. No smell whatsoever, and I'll probably craft a hood for the top with stained wood, a routed symbol of The Eye, and maybe even a brass plaque for the front.

Plus a couple fake red roses in front of the books. I've gotz me idearz...

Nice everyone!
I haven't loaded pictures (probably won't) but wanted to say that my new pride and joys were from Tim/AKC. They were the 3 book Colorado Kid set with the slipcase unsigned. And the Riding the Bullet red tray case version signed, but not by King. I've been looking for these for awhile and glad to have found them from a reputable seller on here. Now they can sit in my bookcase behind closed doors as my collection slowly gets larger.....and sexier :).

I recently recieved this signature, which I think is quite good for 10€ shipping included.
http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/6zEAAOSw37tWBSc2/$_57.JPG

Also, I always loved the old french covers for the mass paperback edition of THE STAND. I recently decided to buy 2 additional sets to mine, and put them together so that I could display the entire artwork.
I recently a third one today, so here it is (and yes, it's not matching unfortunately. I will try to return this red set to buy a matching one).

No, I am not looking for variants. I have a friend of mine that does that : he is the french King bibliograph (= the french justin brooks) but he has a collection of over 10 000 books, as he gathers kind of everything that is being published in the fantasy world. It's crazy :p

I haven’t posted many P&Js recently, as moving homes has impacted my King acquisitions (and precipitated some selling!)

However, I today received two 1st/1sts I have been looking for for a while.
Thanks to the typical kindness of Rick (tippy4), I received a signed Finders Keepers to go with my signed Mr. Mercedes!

It is far from truly complete but I now own every US proof I want. That's enough for me. I have all the regular proofs chronologically from The Dead Zone to Insomnia, excluding the brown Dolan's Cadillac, partial Nightmares in the Sky proof and grey Four Past Midnight.

My next goal is to complete the same chronological series in UK proofs and I'm actually not far from reaching that goal as well.

This is a fav of mine for sure. If anyone is interested I can put them in touch with David. He is a hell of a nice guy and a delight to talk too. All cover art and a couple interiors are gone however there are some fantastic pieces still for sale. They won't be for long either... this guy is a wonderful artist! It is not framed yet and is currently being varnished but I will post pics when I find the right frame..... this piece commands a dark, ominous frame!

Not a pride and joy yet, but a project to finish.... Just picked up a near complete set (35 of 37) of the Stephen King library red (faux) leather editions. Now I have to hunt down the other two, and replace 3-4 that are in less than fine condition.

I'm missing The Dark Half and Eyes of the Dragon. I'll also need to replace Nightmares and Dreamscapes (small rip to the spine) and Insomnia (massive water damage). All of the rest are NF or better, and all of the newer editions have the full numberline. I found them for a pretty good price, but I had to drive two hours to pick them up.

The Stand Uncut and It have some light creasing to the spine, but I can live with that.

Just a small addition of one of those core items of any Dark Tower collection. For $20 I picked up the Ned Dameron Waste Lands. A bit of damage on the envelope that wasn't disclosed in a very forthright way by the seller and the USPS also put their own "stamp" on the package in spite of careful packaging, but the prints are all fine. For $20, I'm not going to worry too much about it.

If you care to see a bunch of dark, reference-only pics of prints that are reproduced much better elsewhere, then HERE THEY ARE (http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=809).

While I am have a bit of a fixation with “The Stand” at the moment, I thought I would share with you all one of my most unique First Editions that probably should never have seen the light of day. It is the UK edition of “The Stand – The Complete and Uncut” that was published in 1990.

This copy was part of the ‘First Pass’ that Hodder ran, to check that everything was lined up perfectly, before committing to the First Edition print run. The following is only a partial list of items that I have so far discovered, but is by no means complete:

1. All the Black & White illustrations by Bernie Wrightson were blank.
2. The full text of ‘Chapter 30’ was missing.
3. The ‘Preface in 2 Parts’ at the start of the book was missing.
4. The first paragraph on P. 365 was indented 5 characters.
5. There are numerous spelling and grammar mistakes, but one noticeable one is on P. 732.

In the U.S. proof: “But they didn’t find them, and she wouldn’t say where no matter how much they tried to explain how important it was.”
In the UK proof: “But they didn’t find them, and she couldn’t say where no matter how much they tried to explain how important it was.”
In this UK copy: “But they didn’t find them, and she Couldn’t say where no matter how much they tried to explain how important it was.”

[The slight variation takes on a different meaning depending on how you read it.]

6. Concerning the £16.95 prototype Dust Jacket, the main difference that is present is located in the 4th paragraph on the cover flap. Originally it read “But now the dreams start. Dreams that forewarn the coming of the dark man and the strengthening of his empire.” It was later changed to “But now the dreams start. Dreams that foretell the coming of the dark man and the strengthening of his empire.”

Personally I think they should have left it in its original form. ‘Forewarn’ means to inform someone of a danger or a possible problem. Mother Abigail was able to tap into her recruits minds to assist them on their journey to visit her. ‘Foretell’ means more or less a prediction of a future event. It implies that Mother Abigail had no influence on what the dreams meant, and that the individual was able to conjure up these visions on their own. That’s my personal take anyway, you are free to disagree.

7. On the rear cover flap, there is a spelling mistake when they write “THE STAND is a brilliant masterpiece of the King cannon.” The correct spelling is ‘canon’. Finally, I may be wrong, but I don’t believe there is a ‘Lake Maine’ located in Maine, unless of course you can call the Penobscot River – Lake Maine.

I hope you enjoy.
Gerald

So much for sticking to release dates. I'm surprised a King book would be in a store prior to release. Although I've seen some available to ship on eBay. I thought there were tighter controls over when a book could be put up for sale. Congratulations!

Thank you all, I actually have another £16.95 prototype Dust Jacket that was mated with another hard back edition that contained some of the errors that were found in this edition, but was more complete (ie: illustrations are present). However, a lot of the text errors are still uncorrected. Apparently this edition went through at least 2 passes before final printing. If I find a 3rd, I will let you know.

It was the only copy there and it was in the used book section. Probably a reviewer's copy.

Sorry for the late reply to this post, but I just read it. Very interesting. The reason for my reply is that I gotta say, you're last bullet point about 'Lake Maine' got me laughing out loud. I lived a few minutes from Bangor for a couple of years and really just about everywhere you go in and around Bangor is on the edge of the Penobscot somehow. I must have driven back and forth across that river at different points on the map roughly 50 million times. It's like that whole area is an island in the middle of 'Lake Maine.'

Hi,

Thank you for the information. Are you saying that locals call the Penobscot River 'Lake Maine'? If so, I didn't know that, and apparently the copywriter in London was correct in the original blurb. I wonder why they changed it, as it would have looked pretty nice.

Thank you.

No, I don't specifically remember anyone actually calling the Penobscot 'Lake Maine' while I was living up there, but it wouldn't surprise me if the locals had an 'inside joke' name for it. And 'Lake Maine' actually seems like a pretty good one, if that makes any sense. The error on the flap and your comment about it hit my funny bone for some reason, so maybe there's something to it. The Penobscot really is such a pervasive part of the landscape up there; to say that you live on the edge of it when you live in Bangor is almost kind of redundant in a funny way. This may be a symptom of my overactive imagination, but I can picture Stephen King sending something to a publisher that jokingly says he lives on the edge of 'Lake Maine,' and that mistakenly getting published before the joke was realized. LOL, you never know!
