Awesome-- thanks, Killjoy.

In thread-related news: went to the flea market today and rescued a 1st of Dolores Claiborne and a DVD copy of Thinner for $5. Not bad for a rainy day, I suppose.

Also picked up a clean copy of Workingman's Dead for the vinyl collection.

Todays hits, at bookstore #1

On Writing - 1/1 - $10.00
Hearts In Atlantis - 1/1 - $12.00 upgrade from my 1/2
Joyland - 1/1 - $10.00 cover without the "#1 NY Times Bestseller" banner

Todays misses (it sucks to be poor) at bookstore #2

Danse Macabre 1/1 (RRD281 on CP) book Fine, DJ Good rip on spine $20
The Colorado Kid - very nice copy in bag, $26
Stephen King: Uncollected and Unpublished - like new, S/L #276 - $95
Ghosts of the 20th Century - TPB - signed and inscribed with doodle by Joe Hill - $28

The Beast That Shouted Love At The Heart Of The World - Harlan Ellison, first edition HC - $13.00
this is important to me because of the short story A Boy And His Dog. Never seen this anwhere else.

Found a new to me bookstore. She has a very ecclectic collection. I'm hoping that at least a couple of these will still be there in a week or two!
Any of these look like good deals?

Today, I ventured into Lisbon Falls and caught up with the Frank Anicetti, Jr. at the Kennebec Fruit Co. Had a Moxie, chatted it up, and laughed a lot. Frank's a real genuine, quality guy. If you ever pass through Maine, you've gotta stop by Kennebec Fruit Co. It's a wicked good time, bub!

Anyways, while I was in, I asked Frank if he would sign a 1st/1st of 11/22/63. He happily obliged, inscribing:

"To Joe
A Moxie Drinker
Frank Anicetti"

After he was done signing my book he looked up and said: "Titus has got the truck up on the lift!" Great stuff...

Haha, of course! And yes, it certainly is an acquired taste. Us Maineiacs are brought up on the stuff, so it doesn't seem so foreign to our palates, but I just imagine how the robust flavor would be a bit overwhelming for some!

I was lucky to be one of the first birds to pre-order from Amazon UK a copy of Harper Lee's Go Set a Watchman. Amazon emailed me later telling my copy is containing a printing error: 2 lines missing on each of 6 pages towards the end of the book. They apologized but I was IMMENSELY pleased as such a copy of notable Harper Lee with the entire related buzz, and the more so with the printing error, is very sought by collectors. According to a report in AbeBooks.co.uk its value has skyrocketed to $1550 (I paid 17.50 GBP). See the link below.
The US 1st print run was 2+ MILLION copies, whereas the UK was only 25,000, and a tiny batch from it had the printing error.
The pages with missing text are 261, 265, 268, 272, 277.

Just received this original art done by Kenneth R. Linkhauser (Artist for the Philtrum Eyes of the Dragon). Looks like it is from 1989. It's titled "Randall Flagg". I think I got it for a modest amount considering the artist.

Love it! Love it! Love it! Did you get it from the artist himself, or from a secondary source. I have not seen anything like this crop up. Just beautiful. Very envious!

I agree sharki69, AKC is the MAN! Like you and Simon, he has recently, and for an extended period of time, helped me in a huge way as it comes to building to my collection. Always fair with his price, careful in shipping and extremely friendly. Also, have to give a big shout out to the Room 217 Caretaker and lotguy who have also worked with me closely in building my collection. I love this place and how everyone helps each other out. Clearly, folks can make more elsewhere, but the espirit de corps is strong with this bunch. Thanks, guys!

Appreciate the "shout out" fellas. Yep, could probably make more elsewhere but, I sincerely want to keep all books within the family and I love seeing the various collections grow knowing that I had a small part in helping to make that happen.

Hi all. I'm not a collector of books so I have a question for you all. Why do I see multiple copies of some? Is each one different and more valuable than the others? I'm curious. I love the pictures you guys have posted though. :)

Hi MonteGss:

There are various reasons for multiple copies of some books. Let me address the DT series first and I will lay this out very simply and there is no intent to insult anyone's intelligence.

The DT publisher Grant, issued each hardcover of the series in different states, a Signed/Lettered edition (signed by King and artist), a Signed numbered edition (signed by King and artist), a regular trade edition, and in the case of the last 3 books, an Artists edition (signed only by the artist). Some collectors like myself desire all states of the book for their collection. Also, with the DT series, the holy grail is to own a complete set of S/L editions all with the same number. While I could expound further, I think this gives you a rough idea as to why multiple copies are owned.

Also, some of us own, let's say a regular 1st edition of The Talisman, but also own another copy signed by King, or another copy signed by Straub, or even one signed by both. As you can gather, there are lots of various combinations.

I hope that goes a ways to answering your question. We love questions here, so keep asking away!!

and here Dave, I always thought it was just because you were one greedy mofo bibliophile.... still waiting for you to answer my emails BTW :)

Tim (AKC) gave a huge boost to my collection and I made a nice contribution to his new acquisitions fund. Transferred from AKC's collection to their new home are:

Flatsigned copies of 1st/1st Carrie and 1st/1st The Stand, Danse Macabre S/L, Six Stories S/L, and Traycased Colorado Kid S/L numbered out of 33. I simply amazed at the quality of the condition of the dust jackets and the book for Carrie and The Stand. Thanks, Tim and I hope you are well on your way, and we all look forward to seeing, whatever it is you are acquiring next!

You mean you didn't ask him? you fool! Nice haul by the way, its good to see AKC's books going to good homes

You are right, I was a complete fool and had the perfect opportunity to ask! I think I was so focused on my haul, I temporarily lost my mind. Too poor now to go back to the well and try again :beat: I am enjoying the big teases put out there by AKC and RF--cant wait to see the big reveals.

Thanks to everyone for the nice comments and again to Tim for working with me.

Not sure why I bought this. I guess it's because it's weird. I've never purchased a non-King CD item before. I hope I'm not going down a slippery slope. It would be my 2nd slippery slope this year.

No need to picture it, but I got the CD Mr. Mercedes slipcover in. The airport paperback I have fits into it nicely (with it inside of a bubblewrap bag). Gives me a LOT of relief to give the paperback some extra protection, both in structure and in sun exposure. Looking forward to getting the Finders Keepers slipcover now!

King wrote a wonderful tribute to JDM in that one. I love the part where he talks about discovering JDM for the first time (1959, Murder in the Wind) and the influence it had on a young 12 year-old writer:

"[I was] knocked cockeyed by it... and both while reading it and afterward, I went around in a state of exhilaration, thinking 'So it can be done. It can be.'

"By 'it' I suppose I meant telling the truth about life even while you were writing for the popular market, so often regarded by those self-esteeming English profs as a market made up of closet sadists, lowbrow truck-drivers, and bored housewives. But even at twelve, with no more experience of life than a rural upbringing could afford, I knew the feel of the real when it touched me in that book. How could I, or anyone, not feel it? Murder in the Wind did not reach out and touch you; it grabbed you, jerked you into a dark alley, and assaulted you.

"MacDonald was writing about people I knew, about smells I had smelled, and I thought, about the way I would feel under certain circumstances. It was like seeing your first color movie after a lifetime of black-and-white."

My new pride and joy just arrived yesterday. I know it's small potatoes compared to some of the gems I see on here, but I've been patiently looking for a S/L He is Legend that's in my price range for quite some time. Being the Matheson fan that I am, I have found signed copies of I am Legend and A Stir of Echoes (and also the PB edition of He is Legend signed by Joe Hil, Joe Lansdale and F Paul Wilson), but now having the signed/750 hardcover just makes my collection that much closer to complete. To round out the epic mail day, I also received my S/L editions of Bill Pronzini's Kinsmen and Femme from forum member Tommy.

This is more of a "New found pride & joy". My mom just came across a stack of misc papers, pamphlets, postcards and menus from my first trip to Bangor in 1998. Meeting Stu and visiting the old two story Betts Bookstore downtown and BookMarcs across the street. Many many memories!!

I'd just like to acknowledge what a great seller (and member) Tim is. It's always good to have transactions go smoothly when buying and trading through TDT.org, but the mark of a truly great seller is how they handle things when it doesn't quite go to plan. Tim really stepped up to the plate on this one and I highly recommend buying from him. It is an honour and a privilege to have books from his collection now in mine. Thanks again Tim!

Tim is the man! And a good friend to boot. He would NEVER do anyone wrong and is one of the top assets here in the community.. your darn right Simon!!!! HOWEVER.. you have some explaining to do!!! Please refer to your collection thread sir:angry:
