Don't think the flash is working, but found a very very good copy of IO for under $100.00. Think that was a good price; I haven't picked up a lot of the old magazines. A little foxing, and it's been opened to see the table of contents, but doesn't seem to have ever been read - spine is perfect.

Picked up a new art page today. I've been wanting a sweet piece of art from Bernie Wrightson for awhile. I finally got my hands on one of his pages from a comic he did about 8 years ago. Just some classic ultra violence from the king of creepy.

It feels like forever since I had a new King Pride and Joy. Finally got something new - Great Ghost Stories Lettered. I can certainly see the appeal of lettered books. Having one of only 26 (or in this case 52) copies of a book is kinda cool. Just could never afford the prices of current ones. But I'm glad to add this to my collection:

It's always enjoyable for me to see some of the things I cannot currently buy because of finances and or seeing some of the unique items book collectors are interested in. Some items I'm envious of, some I have never heard of, some I have, some I want, and some are of no interest to me. But, it is exciting to see what other book collectors enjoy grabbing for themselves. Congrats to all and their new prides of joy and thank you for sharing them with avid collectors. This is really a great site for fiction collectors.

That is a beautiful book! Does it have that same extremely thick creamy paper that the Artist Edition uses? I absolutely love this book, and think this might be the pinnacle of the production side, even taking into consideration the revised Gunslinger/LSOE clamshells.

Congrats becca.......but I have to tell the whole story......

Last week I emailed a bookseller that had a SL DT2 for sale because I was looking for the number that matches my set.

The seller told me that they had #644 (which was not the number I wanted).

Well.....I have a copy of that title for sale as well, and on the same day I received an answer from the bookseller, becca sent me an email asking me if I had #644.

I could not believe it!

I put becca in touch with the bookseller, and the rest is history.

The one known 1st State Mr. Mercedes Proof Has now been signed, Super excited!!!! I was lucky enough to park my car next to Stephen King's. So when he pulled up for the signing it was gracious enough to sign a book for me. It was either this or my Carrie ARC. I figured there's quite a few signed white Carrie arcs out there and being only 1 of these first state MM it seemed obvious that this was the best choice in adding value and improving on an item that is already a one of a kind.

Thanks Jeremy, but this isn't a 1st Mr. Mercedes, its the 1 KNOWN COPY of the 1st State Proof(this isn't the proof many of us have), the last offer I received for it unsigned was well over a 3k, HA has sold a couple Carrie ARC signed for 2k-2.5k in the last year or so.

While this is not a new item, I have been thinking about “Dolan’s Cadillac” a lot lately. When I decided to get a chemise and solander case made recently to hold this, I took another look at the collection because the process by which a small press gets the rights to publish a limited edition book is quite remarkable.

My correspondences between Herb Yellin (Lord John Press Founder) and Stephen King date back to 1982, and continue up until 2006. In the early letters, Herb asks Stephen would he have any story that LJP could publish, and Stephen’s responses are classic, and relevant even today. He said “I have moved very slowly about doing work for small presses, because I’ve become increasingly sensitive to the problems and politics involved. Prices have skyrocketed, and I think it’s been a bonanza for speculators masquerading as bona fide collectors, but not for anybody else.” He goes on to talk about his small press, Philtrum, and a few more commitments he has with Mike Alpert in regards to “The Plant”. He mentions the copy of Part I of “The Plant” that he gave to Herb and that there was “no charge, of course”, as a Thank You for all the free books that Herb sent to Stephen over the years. Herb even propositioned Stephen to publish Parts II and III himself, but Stephen declined.

Their regular letters continued until 1986, when Stephen finally asked Herb if he would be interested in “Dolan’s Cadillac”, even though it does need “a lot of work.” Herb naturally jumped at the opportunity, and the rest as they say is history, or so it seems.

While all collectors know that LJP eventually published 1000 Signed Limited’s, 250 Deluxe, 26 Lettered copies and 100 Presentation States in various bindings, the original contract between Stephen and LJP also called for 15 Presentation Copies, One Author’s Copy, One Tabitha King Copy, and One Kirby McCauley Copy that would be typed as such, and presented to Stephen upon completion.

What may not be so widely known is that Herb had a very large following by collectors, due to the high quality of his previous publications, that the demand was overwhelming. Upon selling out the entire print run well in advance of publication, Herb also received over 3,000 letters and phone calls from collectors asking for a chance to own this book. This, before the day of email blasts and digital newsletters, was quite a testament. While he knew in no uncertain terms that Stephen would not authorize a larger signed print run, Herb wrote to Stephen asking would it be possible to do a 10,000 copy Trade Edition, so that all those interested could get a chance at reading this story. We know that this did not happen, and those fans would have to wait until 1993, when it was reprinted in “Nightmares & Dreamscapes”.

I would like to share with you all a small sample of some of the items contained in this collection. It includes the original manuscript direct from Stephen’s typewriter, a letter from Stephen asking Herb if he would like to print the book, a letter from Shirley Sonderegger that accompanied the typescript, a draft of Herb’s response to Shirley asking would it be possible to do a trade edition, the House Proof copy, as well as a variant design of the 1980 Cadillac Seville Elegante that Herb was considering using for the endpapers in the book.

Herb was meticulous in his book-keeping that he kept drafts of every letter he sent out over the years (including a letter to Stephen in hospital after his near fatal accident), as well as each modification that showed the choice of words he chose to use. While I have not shown all letters and typescripts here, some are from the “Letters from Hell”, and “Lord John Signatures” Collection, as well as the original, signed contracts for all three publications. I will leave that for another day. Sadly, Herb Yellin passed away on June 13, 2014.

I hope you enjoy. Gerald

No worries, I loved reading each correspondence, and seeing how one of my favorite books came together! I own two copies and thought I was ripped off when I couldn't find a signature, two years later I did it again, in the numbered copies signatures were placed in the back. I absolutely love it! That is a one of a kind item that I dream about! I hope to one day to travel to Bangor library and get a chance to view the archives! That is awesome and I love your case!

I guess that you managed to get that after the passing away of Herb, but... how do one politely express interest to someone's belongings to their famil, without appearing rude or anything?

I tried to do something "similar" a couple of years ago, and it's a bit.... awkward.

I had a Half Price Books open just a few blocks away a couple of weeks ago, so decided to go take a look today. Other than what you see on my Collection thread, I don't have many other printed SK. I got rid of them with space concerns back in college. Clearly, I wish I still had them all, but I'm glad to start getting at least some $5.99 placeholder editions. I didn't have a good enough of a cell connection to be able to pull up the catalog so I was using the 1st Edition guide at stephenkingcollector.com. I'm seeing some discrepancies though, now that I'm comparing to the Catalog here.

First up is From A Buick 8. I've got the right ISBN and number line, but mine is a full paper binding with white pastedowns. It has the poster of the cover with the facsimile signature on it.
http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm3/TCCBodhi/Book%20Shelf/From%20A%20Buick%208%20-%201st%20Edition/IMAG2683_zpsxttt2hhw.jpghttp://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm3/TCCBodhi/Book%20Shelf/From%20A%20Buick%208%20-%201st%20Edition/IMAG2693_zpsx3qsus3t.jpg

Next is a nice copy of Eyes Of The Dragon. I assume this is a BCE, no price on DJ (which is embossed and not very faded!, but has a few 1/2 inch tears). The book itself is nearly pristine (it has 1 page that is folded over) and has the "Copyright © Stephen King, 1987 First published in 1987 by Viking Penguin Inc.", but has white pastdowns & the other identifying part on the CP page starts with 'Composition by NK Graphics, Keene, NH.

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm3/TCCBodhi/Book%20Shelf/Eyes%20Of%20The%20Dragon/IMAG2682_zps1szecowq.jpg

Finally, the last one I picked up today is Christine, which looks like it is undeniably a proper 1st. DJ is in good shape for a 30+ year old book, boards aren't worn through. I'm pretty pleased with this one.

Wow...there's some names I haven't heard in a long time. Brings back lots of memories of the OLD days in the first SK Collectors group on Yahoo Groups. Wish I knew what happened to those two. I know they also were pairing down their collection like I did at one time. It's nice to be back in the game though. Like I said in another thread, I know I burned a few bridges over the years when I was going through some health and personal stuff, but I'm hoping to make amends as I've caught the collecting bug again and just can't stop it!

Congrats on all of your finds Burial. The Stand is just about my #1 highest desired standard edition out there though I know others are more valuable, but it was Salem's Lot first, and then The Stand that just hit me like Trashcan Man's bomb and cemented me in as a CR. That wonderful, ambiguous edition that ends with Fran saying "I don't know." rather than the force-fed epilogue of Flagg's return (though it is great with that single sentence "Before the force of that grin they were lost.". Flagg's greatest asset is his charisma.)

Some good arrivals today. Thanks to Lot Guy, a significantly upgraded Salem's Lot first (second state);

A very nice first of Christine;

and also thanks to Lot Guy a signed FK with some extra goodies (local paper and coffee mug from Bridgton Books).

Haha thanks all. Tea slowly and carefully moved, and salems immediately removed from direct sunlight.

Ahhh, sunlight. Bringer of life to plants and animals alike, but decidedly unwelcome nemesis of coveted books and Type One/Two vampires.

Sometime I think the USPS take a sledge hammer to packages... This is how my package came in today.

Anyone know what type of pen King is using for his signatures? I love how "flowy" they all are...almost look water based, maybe? IDK. Maybe it's just his penmanship. Thoughts?
