I'd never even heard of a lettered edition of that one!

Neither have I, congrats Bob. Also that is an interesting question about S and Straub, but what about Bradbury and Bloch, they’re both B’s?

And congrats Jerome, Earthling does make a good Lettered Edition. That is a nice book!

Here is an odd item I picked up today.

a THREE PACK of Duma Key promotional tennis balls.

http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/4775/dumaqn7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Now, unlike the single promitional ball that comes in the little plastic case (http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/2945/picture072ws9.jpg) we have seen on ebay in the past, these are in a sealed pop-top can.

Very odd indeed.

Here is a new one, at least I had not heard of this state before. At the Seventh World Fantasy Convention in 1981 attendees were given a limited edition (1000 numbered copies) book. There were contributions (stories and art) from about 20 different authors/artists. Stephen King's contribution was "The Bird and the Album" which is an excerpt of sorts from the novel IT (even though IT wouldn't be published until about 5 years later).

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb54/carlosdetweiller/wfc7.jpg

I've seen numbered copies for sale and I have seen review copies but, until now, I had not seen a lettered copy. This book is in a slipcase (other copies do not have a slipcase) and is hand lettered with an "S" in the limitation space. Peter Straub's name is also on the limitation page.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb54/carlosdetweiller/wfc7limitationpage.jpg

This book has made the rounds and has signatures of virtually all of the 20 contributors except Ramsey Campell. I was especially pleased to see that Robert Bloch and Ray Bradbury had signed. Stephen King signed at his contribution on the first day of the convention.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb54/carlosdetweiller/wfc7kingsig.jpg

Some questions arise. Did this book come with a slipcase or was this one added later? I think it was probably added later but it sure fits and looks like it was made for the book. Did all contributors get a "lettered" copy that matches their last name (as the "S" for Straub)? I have no idea. Like I said earlier, this is the first I have seen.

Interesting indeed Bob, And the first such copy I've seen as well. My copy is a numbered and signed by 8 of the contributors. Including King. Mine also came in a Slipcase although it appears to be a simple aftermarket Black cloth type.

No history available. The guy I bought it from had had it for several years and had obtained some of the signatures himself. But he was not one of the attendees at the convention and knows nothing of the original owner. It's a very interesting book and I like it a lot.

I don't know the story behind it. I just received it from a contact.

I guess they ordered several of these 3 tennis ball packs and then used some to put in the boxes in order to make them promotional.

These 3 tennis ball packs must be the "prototype" of the promo item :)

It was too odd to not buy!

Also obtained the Skeleton Crew Portfolio. Interesting to note that it appears Potter did a strikethrough on the limitation page where it says "This Edition Is Limited to 500 copies, each signed by the Artist. It will not be reprinted" He crossed off the word "not".
Also cool as it has the poster that came with the S/L and it is in excellent shape.

The Artist Edition. It is signed by the artist, and it is not numbered. It doesn't come signed by King, they must have got is signed by King at a reading. be careful, though.

None of the Artist's Editions (which were published by Grant for Wolves of the Calla--3500 copies, Song of Susannah--3500 copies and The Dark Tower--5000 copies) were numbered, but all were signed by the various artists, but none by King, and they were signed on the title page, if I remember correctly. The first two, Wolves and Song, had different dust jacket art than the trade editions. None of them sold for $175. If I remember correctly, the price for each artist edition was $50. It sounds like you may have found an unnumbered s/l edition.

The framing cost 175.00, it's never cheap to have something custom framed, sometimes you wind up spending more than the piece of art cost, but it's worth it when you are showcasing a piece of art that means something to you.

I was real lucky though to find a good framer (The Frame Corner in Farmington) right off when I moved here to New Mexico.

Here's a few things...nothing too impressive:

X-Men with SK writing a few pages,

Bernie Wrightson's new comic,

Spanish Drawing of the Three from Sterling. My wife found it for .75 cents. :)

Only two more to go!

Simon Clark's "Blood Crazy" Letter R of 26 lettered copies.

Theres something about CD's lettered editions that I really like. It gets boring when they are all the same, but they are still simple, classy, and well made.

And, although not a new addition, my AE of DTVII may be of interest to some on the site as it has an ink drawing of the eye of the crimson king.

Side note, I won't whore this thread any longer, in a few months when I finally have the time, I'll put everything up in the collections forum:thumbsup:

Its all about the "hosting". You have a choice to use something like imageshack or photobucket...or you can upload them in our gallery and that "hosts" them.

Method where you can upload them from the actual post is what creates those thumbnails. Not the best way to do it.

This is a tutorial (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?t=447) that Jerome created to show how "hosting" can be done

The only two I found (almost accidentally, actually) were the correct spacing of the ISBN number for Transylvania Station (which has King's introductory essay "The Strange Case of the Westlake Stationery" and the fact that he states the gift edition of Secretary of Dreams Vol. 1 was numbered when it is unnumbered.

This is a new art book by Centipede Press. Artists Inspired by Lovecraft. As you guys know from ‘Salem’s Lot he makes huge books, and this is no exception. It was measured at 17 pounds and the traycase is over a foot wide, and a foot and a half tall. It’s a beast. It also comes with a folder of art prints.

Btw, I usually don’t care for novels to be oversized, but artwork I don’t mind. But, there is no way to read this book, except on a table. lol

I know none of you guys like anthologies but I thought this was pretty cool. THE DARK DESCENT was a massive anthology published in 1987. Virtually every horror writer of note whether living or dead had an entry. King, himself, had three stories in this book.

Here is a copy signed by several notable writers. I think I can make out all of the signatures but if I have one wrong I hope someone will correct me.

Ramsey Campbell, Clive Barker, Dennis Etchison, Charles L. Grant, Richard Matheson, Stephen King, Ray Bradbury and Harlan Ellison.

I've not seen another copy of this book with as many notable signatures.

I've enjoyed his work for sometime.

I can remember going to bed and turning off the light so Mom would think I'm asleep. Pull out a flashlight and a copy of Shadows...pull the covers over my head for an evening of pure enjoyment.

My Dad came in one night and caught me. His only advice, "be careful son, you could go blind doing that" not sure if he really new what I was doing :P

His earlier stuff yes, but truthfully, I have not read anything by him in the past 5-7 years. I liked Weaveworld, Great & Secret Show, Everville. I think Cabal was the last book I read by him. Am a bit embarrassed that I have not read the Books of Blood...I know they are considered some of his best work (by some critics anyway).

Mr. B. GONE is close to his earlier writing I think. It is unusual though in that it's a horror book written in second person. I haven't seen to many horror stories use that.

Yeah, I had to sell them during hard times. This was quite awhile back before I'd even discovered .net.

And Carlin was great! :D He was always one of my favorite comedians.

And here it is.....
Also, a correction, they are $79.95 from Horror Mall, and they come with the chapbook that accompanied the book - not sure if all the ones on eBay do or not.
Actually one of these is mine on consignment. It's "as new", never been read and it has the bonus chapbook. This one I had trouble parting with. It is nice.
