I went on a bit of a shopping spree the last couple of months. Snagged the Carrie about six weeks ago, thinking it would still be a long time until I finally landed a Salem's Lot and Night Shift. Last week the Salem's Lot showed up on eBay and I was the only bidder. The seller also had the Night Shift for sale which we came to an agreement on offline. Suddenly, I have a complete collection of first editions.

I was in 9th grade when I became aware of first editions and limited editions while trying to track down the elusive The Dark Tower book mentioned in Pet Sematary. I paid $125 for a first edition of The Gunslinger from a guy who advertised it for sale in the classifieds in Castle Rock. It took me until I was 43 to complete the collection. It's bittersweet in a way. The hunt is over. There will always be more books to buy, but I've finally completed what I set out to do. That's some kind of accomplishment.

Anyway, I'm thrilled with the new P&Js. The books are in great shape. The dust jackets are a bit rough around the edges but more than adequate for my needs. Couldn't be happier. Now I just need some more shelf space.

Sort of not King related, but last night, a french author (who was on stage with King in Paris last year), was asked to present a movie in theater. So his choice was THE SHINING, and the evening first had a book signing.
So, I had the opportunity to discuss a bit more with him, get books signed, and watch THE SHINING in theater again :)

He signed an anthology to which he contributed : "For Jeremy, because you know the importance of short stories... friendly."

"For Jeremy, the Gaia theory, to get scared with our "evolution".

Sweet!!
I know how you must be feeling....satisfied. When I finally got my last 1st I was asked by anyone that knew me. "So now what"?
Now I look for perfect copies to replace the ones that are less than perfect. The hunt is never over. I love it.

Unlike John proofs don't do a thing for me.

Although this is one of the unbound proofs from Cemetery Dance, it doesn't have the "1st Proof" or "2nd Proof" printed on it. There was/is another of these on eBay that also didn't have the printing.

Just one more of the CD unbound proofs to go now--Doctor Sleep!

I remember a couple of months ago Bob Jackson pointed out an auction where a copy of Nugget magazine (in not the best condition) was for sale (finally sold for 42 bucks if I'm not wrong). I found this one for 15 dollars and offered the seller $10. I went to bed sure that I'd lost the item due to a BIN. It didn't happen and the seller accepted the offer. :)

As for the Startling Mystery Magazine, I think I got a decent price: $221 for both. I already had the one with The Reaper's Image, but not in the best shape. And I also had one copy of Weird Tales but this one was $9 and I bought the first one for $47.

I spent a couple hours Tuesday with Michael Whelan and his wife Audrey at their home. My ulterior motive was to pay for and pick up two new pieces of original Whelan Dark Tower art. Art they say is in the eye of the beholder...but Michael remains not only a good friend, but my FAVORITE King artist of all time. This first piece was the preliminary painting that Michael did of Jake and Oy in book 7 when they were under the Dixie Pig and temporarily cornered.

a close up view:

This next piece is of Cort, Roland's teacher, which Michael did at Steve's request a number of years ago. In early 2009, as King was planning to launch his Discordia on-line game for his website, Steve asked Michael to do paintings of all the major Dark Tower characters. This is the first time I had seen Michael's rendition of Cort.

A closer view...

And the following is not new, and forgive the self promotion here....but Michael asked me to model for him to be the new face/image of Father Callahan. This image was used in the game on King's website and I own this original Whelan - Callahan. It is my "15 minutes" in the spotlight.

Wow! I think Whelans rendition of OY is and always will be my favorite. Every time he does an OY Michael captures what my imagination has already shown me.

Neil Gaiman had a reading/signing event last night at B&N in NYC. I planned to go, but work wouldn't allow me...BUT - my NY friend decided to go regardless. I shipped her 5 of my books, you know, just in case (event instructions allowed only 1 additional item to be signed by Gaiman). Well, not so many people showed up, so she managed to sign 4 !!! she also told me it was the best signing she have been to - funny, smart and now she want to read all his books....

Note that Stephen King also signed Richard Bachman in parentheses, which is apparently rare. This was signed by King and Robertson in 1988 at a signing in Texas. I am also informed that "Holiday Cookies" are in route and there is still a final installment in my "Secret Santa's" plans. Pretty sweet haul IMHO!!!

Got these yesterday. Signed The Stand: The Complete and Uncut Edition (published by Gramercy Books, 2001). Also, a book by another of my favorite authors, Don Robertson, The Ideal Genuine Man! If you have not read any of his books, I highly recommend doing so.

Note that Stephen King also signed Richard Bachman in parentheses, which is apparently rare. This was signed by King and Robertson in 1988 at a signing in Texas. I found a link with more info about that signing, with a great photo, HERE (http://bookchase.blogspot.com/2012/07/stephen-king-and-don-robertson-1988.html)

Nice books, goheat. Nice to see another Don Robertson fan on here. I've posted pics of my Robertson collection in the Other Authors You Collect thread in the past. Would love to see yours if you've got more.

We moved back to Florida from Indiana in June and most of those are packed. Once I unpack my boxes o'stuff I definitely will post pics of those and my King/Joe Hill books!

Thanks! Whenever I resist it, I come to regret it later. I remember looking at a stack of Gunslinger 2nd edition books at at at The Science Fiction Shop in NYC back in 1984 and thinking I should buy more than one. Same thing with Cycle of the Werewolf...

Last two Christmas gifts came in today. These two titles are important to me because Cell was the novel that got me back into reading Stephen King after about 5 years off after relocating from Florida to Indiana. And I really enjoyed Joyland because of the nostalgic edge to the story. Thanks to Lot Guy for making the deal on the Joyland S/L and getting it to me via sleigh by Christmas!

It continues to amaze me how King can eloquently write such differing types of stories...

Total if 5 gift editions. 1 inscribed to me, 4 unsigned, 3 S/L's, 1 prototype 1/1 & 1 Betts Bound 1/30 it found a good home Jerome!

Looking to get a PC even(5done) market on these is about $5,500-$6,000.00. David said $6,000.00 is being a very generous offer. Last 2 PC copies went for $4,500.00 & $5,500.00 in the last 15 months. Optimistic but that's where I'm hoping to be. Plan is to sell a couple of my S/L's to help with cost if 1 comes up.

My point of comparison would be the PS numbered edition, which I liked a lot and thought came out very well. Still--though I don't have it in hand yet--the CD Gift looks great. I think they rose to the challenge here, with two quality publishers doing quality editions of the same book at the same time.

You know what? That's a very good idea. This book does not seem to warrant a "Dolso" case, but a straight, traditional cardboard case makes great sense. When you contact him put me down for one as well. A S/L certainly deserves a slipcase.

Thanks Mr RT, is there anything embossed on the slipcase?

Just "Stephen King" done in silver, in a silver box around it. Jeff will do whatever you want.

Also came with WWZ that I really like too. Number 50. I found it fits my spare yellow slipcase from The Road to the Darktower quite well

Yeah, I need to update that page, it's pretty out of date. I'll add WWZ to the list of books that the case fits and remove the "no coupons" text at the bottom since that isn't true anymore. I'll probably do that updating on Friday before we email the WWZ customers about the case!

Glad I could help! The yellow actually suits the book too I reckon.

You should have received or will receive a shipping notice. Check the CD thread for updates. There's still a few folks who haven't received theirs yet, me included. Although I did receive a shipping notice email.

Don't have mine yet, either, and haven't received a shipping notice. I did ask Mindy if she could tell me where I was in the shipping queue--I'd hoped to bring a copy of the book with me to Europe next week, as I have a pal over there--but she indicated that there was no way to tell.

To paraphrase Roger Zelazny, I am cultivating patience and smoking cigarettes.

Took me 6 months to get me a copy from Iran, but it has arrived; 'Stephen King Uncollected Stories' in Farsi.
Now I need to find someone who can tell me which stories are in there. 'Jhonathan and the Witches' should be one of them.
