You know when you finally get a book you've been after for ages and it feels good? Well this is one of those occasions for me. I've been here before with purchases on bigger/rarer items (S/L's and such) but this one is just as satisfying for me and it's a humble purchase that's not even in great condition but I just don't care as I've been looking for a while without success so I figure an acceptable copy is better than no copy at all (and it only cost me £8 or so any way).

As some of you know I collect UK paperback first editions (mainly because I love the cover art) and here is my latest:

It's a goid feeling for such a modest purchase - but I suppose that's what makes us collectors, right? That feeling?, and I'm certainly happy to have it until/if a better condition copy comes along.

Cheers, Kris. They ARE out there. Bob and Michaël both have copies in their respective collections (in much better condition than my copy) but they don't seem to appear for sale that often and believe me I searched. Often! :D

Congratulations on the UK Carrie paperback! That's really fantastic. I know how you must feel over the acquisition because I also collect the paperbacks and have this one too in my collection. The one I stil haven't been able to acquire is the 1st paperback of Salems. But I'm sure one day I will get it. Congratulations again!

There's been a fair bit of discussion about which editions are the true UK 1st/1st paperbacks, Paul. Is this the one are you looking for? I sold it to Bob some time ago (before I developed an interest in collecting paperbacks myself) and it is the only copy of that particular edition I've seen:

Yes, that's the one I'm looking for. I actually have these two below. The one on the right I've seen posted here somewhere, maybe from Bob. The one on the left I wasn't even aware existed until I got it. It's like the black US edition, only it's an NEL edition.

Got this a while ago but hadn't gotten around to posting it yet. You can't really appreciate the size until you see it in person, really just an amazing, amazing production. I had kind of avoiding reading about it or looking at pictures of it knowing that sooner or later I'd add it to my collection, and I'm glad I waited. I didn't even know about the slide out portion which really surprised me.

My mother was over at my house shortly after I purchased it, and she's an avid (not King) reader and worked for a long time at a small bookseller. Normally she looks at my King purchases and tells me I'm a wastrel, but even she thought that this book was a bargain at the price paid.

The perspex case came from George Beahm who edited the book. He had a batch made for the larger signed edition as a one off and has now I believe sold them all. There was only 1 case made for the smaller edition which was a prototype, I think one of the members here snagged it.

There is a case maker that was mentioned here in a post, damned if I recall which thread, that still makes the clear cases. I bought one for my trade edition 8-9 months ago. RF, may know where to go.

Deluxe edition, this a marked "Contributor's Copy," one of an undetermined number numbered with Roman Numerals, signed by Orson Scott Card, Brandon Mull (Preface) and David Ho (art). In "capped" cloth slipcase with a second volume containing the author's original typed manuscript from 1975 as submitted to Analog. All items new.

An extraordinary edition of this book, among my favorites of the recent Centipede Press releases. There are still copies available from the publisher. Pardon my horrible photography; the colors and design are far more subtle than I was able to capture.

Well it came in Friday and I was at the framers within minutes:) Here is the finished product. Still have to say I am AMAZED at the detail and how well he did for being 80 years old! He even drew a cigarette butt that i never noticed on the cover but did unpon closer inspection. Just awesome to say the least!

It's always a good feeling to be able to do so. But careful, it's easy to appreciate it and then it's "difficult" NOT to be able to read prior to publication :D

It's a nice set, although not necessarily an extremely nice set. The dustjacket art are the only illustrations. They are replicated in red on black on the op-title page which looks cool.

I am an advocate for removing the shrink wrap and then protecting the book appropriately. In the case of a set housed in a slipcase however, the shrinkwrap can be cut so as to remove the books while leaving the slipcase covered.

Yeah, I've done that too a few times. Neatly slicing the shrinkwrap so as to keep most of it in place... I think I may be in the minority of those who generally don't take shrinkwrap off books... I can't explain why really...

The box from Camelot Books contained the Books of Blood. The box from Bett's contained a complete set of Castle Rock The Stephen King Newsletter in two archival binders. The bags contained the black and red versions of tdt.org T-shirts.

These were from Grant's collection. (Thanks Grant! All good thoughts going your way. You were one of the first to make me feel welcome on this site. :rose:)

The binders are from an Australian office supply company.

It is a very nicely made binder. The sleeves are about 5/16" short of covering the height of the later issues though.

It is a pretty book, but I hate variants. Buying 4-5 copies of the same book just for a different cover...what a money grab. The comic book industry is notorious for variants and I hate them too.

Alas, lack of shelf space prohibits my full on participation. I have to pick and choose my spots, but those UK variants are mighty tempting!!! Aside from HF items yet to be shipped, my more recent acquisitions reside on a favorite office chair!!! LOL Some reorganization is warranted I fear!!!

I won't go into details, b/c it's not my place to let the cat out of the bag so to speak if this person would rather stay under the radar for now, but this collection might be second to only Bob's as far as desired editions go. We talked for about an hour and I must say I could have talked for hours more had I the time. So not only did I see some amazing books, I have a new friend in the collecting community. I'm proud of that, and it gave me joy, so I think it certainly qualifies for a "Pride and Joy."

Hi Robert! Glad you like it! Please excuse the typo errors in my article, but in 1994 I wrote it on a typewriter and when the author retyped it into a computer file, he neglected to proof it--thus a few noticeable errors. But he made it up to me by publishing it "error free" in "The Stephen King Companion" (second edition). Anyhow, enjoy!

I feel honored that he would take time to reach out to me. I mean, I know he's human just like everyone else, but it's cool that he did that.

Shipping varies but from what I have sent out so far its about £14 ($22) for one book and £22 ($34.50) for two (assuming no tracking and insurance). So far I have kept any additional costs to a minimum by reusing existing packaging and boxes but I'm pretty much all out now!

I just bought this set of 11 Waste Lands transparencies on eBay. They are a lot smaller than I expected; I have included the Shardik print from the portfolio for comparison. You can see that the transparency is slightly wider than the print, and there is a bit more to see on the left and right. I don't know why or when (in the publication process) these slides would have been created. One interesting thing to note, I think, is that there are 11 transparencies, but 13 pieces of art in the book (including the end papers). The two missing pieces for which there are no transparencies are "Better Duck, Dearie" (Gasher) and "Leather Wings". The Gasher painting is the only one Dameron dated 1991. I wonder if it's possible that these transparencies were created before those paintings were finished.

I saw this painting in person in 1998 or so at The Book Sail in Tustin, CA. It was owned by the eccentric and very rich John McLaughlin. I thought that I would like to own it one day but didn't think it would ever happen. A sequence of good fortune allowed me to buy it from the winner of the Heritage Auction. I'm very proud of it.

I have no idea right now. It is a really big painting and I am short on wall space. Also the frame and matting have seen better days. I might elect to completely reframe it. I didn't tell my wife I was buying it and (good luck on my side for once) she is out of town right now and didn't see it delivered. I guess I'll show it to her when she gets home tomorrow. I might be in trouble with her.

I'm completely envious, so don't take this as a slight Zelig, but WOW has his signature ever started to get sloppier. "King" especially, I wonder if this was one of the last in a long stack of signed copies and the hand fatigue was starting to show?

I've noticed that. I'm definitely no expert on King signatures, but maybe one of the folks on here who knows a lot more about the subject can chime in. I liked King's signature from the 80's and 90's. But I guess as he gets older, and with all the thousands of books he's signed over the years, maybe it makes sense that the signature has changed like that.

I think we had 12 signed but are down to eight.
I couldn't believe our good fortune when Stephen and Owen were in Toronto doing the tour. After the signing we noticed the book sellers still had a box of books. We asked if they would sell what was left and they said "It beats us carrying them".

I hope to sell/trade them. Looking for a Mr Mercedes trade.

Not a big deal but thought I would share. I made this for my DT matching set. It goes on the tube they sent. I have high end pure white paper in large rolls so I wrapped the shitty tube and then affixed this. I am not going to frame these as it is around a grand and I just frame original art. These are prints but VERY cool to have to go with your set. I am also offering this. If any member out there has this set and wants this label (it is a 6x12 mac tac label designed to fit the tube). Mixed feelings with the lot. Wolves of the calla is a PC copy, but I paid $350. I think I got a good deal. And I'm pretty happy with most of the stuff, even the Writing for teens magazine, which doesn't include The Furnace paragraph. But my main concern is with SK Uncollected, Unpublished. I wasn't going to say anything but just in case someone else jumps in, be aware that the Rocky Wood updated edition is...not worth its value. I've been buying the different editions released by The Overlook Connection, but this one is a joke. Less than 100 pages, texts repeated (the entries for two stories are EXACTLY the same), pages filled with lists, new intro...I think that all the interesting stuff would fill less than 20/30 pages. The new info isn't at all enough for a new book and, well...they made a chapbook that it's not sold as one. It costs 10 bucks, so it doesn't really hurt my finances or anything, but I think it's not worth it at all.

I thought that the update was interesting. It mentions a few interesting new texts, ideas etc. That's pretty much what I expect from his book, so I wasn't desappointed.
