My Joyland Collection is now complete! I just received my ARC/Proof today. The Publisher said this & the 2 Gift Editions were all that they had left of King Inventory. My Contact has been very helpful & a pleasure working with! Reading in the proof catalogue that Jhanic knows of 4 including the one King is holding on the front of Parade. This makes number 5! THRILLED!

So you are saying all you did was contact the publisher and they just granted you access to the stuff?
No the ARC was given not sold because of the contact I have at that publisher for reviews. I paid for the Gift Editions, remaining from cancelled orders, unpaid/declined cards. Etc...
They aren't going to set up another buying page for 2 books I was told. Like other publishers some remaining inventory is sold to longtime customers & Business contacts. As for the rest of my Joyland collection I purchased 1 S/L & 1 Lettered from publisher. The rest were purchased on the secondary market.

I think I bought it from a member here, sold it to sirfolio16, and now sharkie69 now owns it.

You know the total number of signed/limited King's off the top of your head? I think skcollector has 44 listed on his limited page but wasn't sure if that was complete.

This site lists them all. Check out the Catalogues (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/forumdisplay.php?124-Stephen-King-Collectibles-Catalog).

Too much counting, I was hoping someone would just tell me. :)

Do you wish to know the number of titles, the number of items, the total limitations of all titles?
Get off of your ass and go here. (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showwiki.php?title=Complete+list+of+Stephen+King+S igned+Limiteds) Add them up, then report back here to help other lazy people. Link:

Ugh, USPS:[/URL]

That does not look good!!

Better than I expected (after seeing the box), but still bumped. It was double bubble wrapped plus newspaper on the ends, but that corner was still bumped (not surprisingly, that's a LOT of force exerted). Anyone have any tips for how the USPS operates in regard to something like this? The book was ensured for full purchase price but I'm envisioning conversations like "No, seriously, the bump and wrinkling to the slipcase definitely affects the value".

The sad part is (or good part, depending...) is there's one less perfect Skeleton Crew S/L in existence. And it WAS perfect, otherwise. Totally pristine. Cover was very slightly looser than I would expect if all you'd done was pry it up 4" like I do to view the signatures, but I don't expect a 30 year old book to be like that. Bah.

Correct. Well, actually we knew each other all through grade school. On Friday he posted a big lot of King books (mostly paperbacks) to Facebook saying he wanted $70 for the lot. On the bottom shelf was sitting The Gunslinger. At first I couldn't believe what I was seeing. So I sent him a message offering $10 for it, and completely unexpected of me, he accepted. Drove to his house and picked it up last night.

And sorry I didn't respond to the questions earlier but it seems I'm paying my penance for the "theft". Woke up around 2am this morning dripping in sweat, shivering, and making several trips to the toilet to worship the porcelain God. Still running a fever with a terrible headache at the moment. Strange.....

New pride and joy : an officially printed version of the french version of BAD LITTLE KID.

There were 30 copies given away during a contest organised by the french publisher. In this contest, 30 copies of the books were available, and if the winner was saying that they didnt have the material to read an ebook, a printed version would be sent to them.
I was told that I would be getting one, and then, that they had just enough copies for the winners so that I wouldnt be getting one.

Imagine my surprise when, 1-2 months later I recieve one from the publisher, totally unexpected :)

If it was insured( which I think you said it is) i would have thought it's the sellers responsibility to claim?
He took out the insurance policy, not you.

You should return the book to the seller and claim a full refund. Or agree a partial repayment that would make you happy to keep the book. The seller then claims back either the full amount from USPS or again a claim for the damage made. I would suggest the cost of returning the book is taken into account.

Fanastic Jeremy. What's the total page count?
Jon

104 pages.
It is SLIGHTLY different from the ebook. There is something on the back saying that it's a free copy and therefore cant be sold, and it doesnt include the excerpt of JOYLAND that was published the month after the release of the ebook. Except that, nothing special.

And how important it is to have good relations with publishers :)

I thought when I had seen people make claims against UPS that it always had to be the seller that made the claim, but apparently with USPS it can be either. The mailperson told me just to file the claim online, but I think I'll call USPS and see if they can clarify what my options are first.

If the book went missing then the seller must file the insurance claim. (After the 21 day waiting period.) If the book was delivered damaged then either buyer or seller can file the claim. (Immediately) If you really want that particular book then you accepting a discount from the seller and him filing the claim is easiest for you. If you don't want the book then return it to the seller and let him worry about it.

Filing the claim yourself will be a hassle. You'll have to bring in the book and packaging for inspection. You will have to wait. You might have to file an appeal.

I have had experience with this.

My traycased edition of knowing darkness was mailed to me by Brice - very well packed. However, the usps did all they could to damage it. The box looked as if it had been kicked, dropped, punted, rolled... You get it. The corner of the case was heavily damaged

I filed a claim WITH a letter from centipede stating value. I got in invoice from Brice. I had everything. I did everything within the time limits.

I lost. Appealed. Lost again. You don't get a third time.

I lost. Appealed. Lost again. You don't get a third time.

This is why we worry about sending high value items via the Post Office. I know a lot of people have also had trouble dealing with UPS or Fed-Ex over the years, but so far we've never had a problem getting them to honor their insurance on a high value item that was damaged or lost. (Knock on wood!)

Did they provide a reason for rejecting the claim? I'm just curious as to their reasoning.

I lost. Appealed. Lost again. You don't get a third time.

The first time I lost the reason was I had "apparently" not done the application in a timely manner. Turns out the post office I turned in the claim to had "forgotten to send it down town." This automatically forced me to use my appeal. During the appeal process they wanted me to submit the box the book came in. That was fine so I took the gigantic box and all the packing materials to the office. They wanted me to leave the book as well.

I told them respectfully they could take pictures of damage, and they agreed to the compromise and they took multiple pictures of the damage. I was assured this was okay in lieu of leaving the book in their possession.

I was told to expect a decision in a week. Two weeks roll by, nothing. Third week comes, I get a letter. Appeal is denied due to the fact I did not leave the book in their possession.

I call the office of the postmaster to tell them about the situation. So after waiting ANOTHER week for the postmaster to call here is what they told me. The post office employees don't have the authority to make decisions on damage. They are to keep the item to be "closely examined" so that claims can be either rejected or paid. I asked her since they screwed up, if I could appeal again. Nope, I couldn't. As far as she was concerned case was closed.

My copy is in reasonable shape, I'd say VG+/NF DJ and the book is VG+. The only problem with the book is that it has been widely opened at about page 30 and has caused the binding to 'split'. It could probably be repaired but probably not worth it for the value of the book.
If any one wants this, PM me - I only keep 1st editions in my collection. (I can send more photos on request)

And what have we learned to day, boys and girls? USPS insurance is a cash grab scam!!! I went through a similar experience. It's easier to get them to pay for a damaged car than anything they actually ship!!! Bastards, they killed, Kenny as well!! LOL

OK, on Friday, 5/16 I won an eBay auction for a 1st/1st NF Carrie (eBay Item # 141282769374). I paid $950 and, based on discussion in the Fair Market Value Thread, that was a fair price for a 1st Carrie in NF condition.

Regarding condition, it is better than Near Fine.

BUT.......pay attention to the last pic.........seller didn't know what he had.

Hi Randall Flagg
Thanks for your warm compliment.
I DID mentioned the TDT site as a resource to confirm legitimate S.King signatures. It's clearly written there:
"I’m a member of TDT.org – the exclusive site, the bible for everything related to Stephen King. You can learn so much there about King’s books and the authenticity of King’s signatures."
I would like to have your comment in the blog, Randall Flagg. I think it's important as you're the Director of TDT.org site which I mentioned there for the readers to follow it.

Which is an historically common way of providing an advance reading/review copy. I have several review copies that are first trade editions with a "review" letter included. (Alas none are SK) There is also often a promotional photo or other advertisement included.

I love the lettered edition well at least the traycase cause that is all I have seen so far. I just can't justify paying $2500.00 for a lettered edition when pretty much most all of them just mostly has a fancy jazzed up traycase that you are paying for. I sorry but that is the way I see it. Having said all of that I guess if I had the money I would be buying them too.

Note the non bumped corner and non wrinkled edge. What's the USPS gonna say? Tell me to go pound sand? Negotiate over a partial refund? Give me 700 bucks and let me keep the book?

I rolled the dice on filing a claim with the USPS. They sent me a check for 50 bucks. I was hoping for more, but tbh, I may not be able to justify it very well. End result is that I paid about the same as this one, and I'd take my slipcase over the damage/wear on it:

Hello TDT guys.
The TDT.ORG appears now at the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB) site.
The ILAB is the (international) mother organization of all country associations of antiquarian booksellers (well, those who get accepted into their various associations).
The ILAB has picked up my interview about my book collection and since, as you already know, I mentioned the TDT in the interview (at the end of part 1), is now getting good exposure in this important site, and I’m proud of it.
Take a look guys, see our unique home nesting in the ILAB exclusive site. Be proud!

So as there seem to be a few new 'salem's Lot's flying around, I thought I'd add my new P & J. Not a 1st/1st but a Gift Edition WITH the pretty rare (200 limited) after market slipcase from Tomas at StephenKingCollector.com!!

Wow I thought the GE alone was big, This thing is enormous! and one of the nicest aftermarket cases I have ever seen, no wonder they rarely come onto the market. The Seller also included 3 flyers form various attendance's by SK including Harry, Carrie & Garp. Cool!

Additional thanks to Priest for picking up (and paying for!) my previous copy of the 'salem's Lot GE which enabled me to secure this one.

I have this as well and your right... one of the nicest I have seen. I would recommend trying to get a set of prints brother! They run $150 ish I am told now but you may find them less. The left side of the case was designed for them to tuck into the corners. Man it looks good when you open it and they are there. I love this production. It makes me wonder how CD will top this with theirs....

I dig KPB too. His The Novellas collection is solid. Jack & Jill was great too and so was 30 Miles of Dry County. Haven't tried anything in novel length.

I have Theater Macabre HC on pre-order from BMB.

I can't wait to read Theater Macabre!

Got mine last week:

Did you request #2 or just order early?

I ordered one from Bad Moon Books too. They still have them available for anyone interested. http://www.badmoonbooks.com/product/Theater Macabre (http://www.badmoonbooks.com/product.php?productid=3639&cat=0&page=1)

Neither...I ordered a week or two ago when they had their 25% off sale, with no special instructions, and that's the number that arrived. Just lucky, I guess.

Interesting that they still have these up for order when it is stated that the print run is dictated by pre-orders.

The cover art is so much more ominous without the writing. Love it.

Hi Michaël,

I stopped actively collecting King in the mid 90's so I am missing a lot of this kind of appearances. I now try to get anything new that King writes, as it gets published.

When I find good deals I try to fill holes in my collection. Putting two kids through college doesn't leave much disposable income for that.

Thanks Merlin!

Dune is one hell of a quotable book. Frank Herbert was a master of his craft.

Not like the crap his son is writing.
