The Buick 8 GE has always been one of my favorite GEs, alongside Insomnia and Desperation. That's one hell of a haul!! :lovely: Congrats! :D

Well, picked these up from the Post Office this afternoon. 2 copies of the Desperation GE and I doubled up on the TWTTKH I already had. Hardly seems worth mentioning after _PCC_'s post. :tongue1:

Really nice GE! They are not cheap though... If you can find one!

I've always wondered why that is. It isn't considered by many to be "classic King," e.g. THE SHINING, IT, or SALEM'S LOT, and the limitation is fairly high. So why the high resale?

I think the consensus here is that it's always better to know. I remember someone proudly showing a signed copy of IT a couple of years ago where the sig was deemed to be fake by all of the veterans here. Initially people were reluctant to point it out in public but in the end they did and I think we can all agree that this is one of the things that makes this a tight-knit community. We all genuinely care and wish each other the best in our collecting endeavours.

Stepping off my soapbox now :)

For me the worst part would be if I ever went to sell of for say "my number" or found a better copy... And it was a fake of bad in some way. Especially if I did to a member. That would suck!

As hard as it may be, say something right away. If not in public, then by PM. That gives the member a chance to at least get a second or third opinion promptly.

I'll take some better pics when time allows (and probably start a collection thread).

And with that, I'm officially in the market for 1, 2, 3, and TWTTK #379. I know a couple people have mentioned they know who has TWTTK, if you want to send him an email and let him know I'm interested in buying or trading for it that would be great (or PM me eBay info or whatever and I'll harass him myself). I also believe a member here either has or at least had DT2 #379: SGC1999.

It is no where near funny, it was a damn shame. I tried to track it down, but I'll be damned if I know what the knuckleheads at the USPS did with it. The lady it was erroneously addressed to down the street had the slipcase. However, I'll tell you what, James. You have been a good "Virtual Friend", a HF supporter and are someone I would very much like to meet someday. So, if you ever come to AZ, you can leave with my slipcased gift edition of FAB8. How's that for a little incentive? I said it in public for all to note, so you know I am committed!!! Or, should be!! LOL

I still feel really bad about the mix-up and it would sincerely be my pleasure to right the injustice. So, what do you say? You need to get away from "Hobbiton" some day, no? LOL Maybe we can catch the last "The Hobbit" movie together and have, Dick and "Joe315" come by as well. We'll have our own personal TDT.Org-Con!!! Wives', Tooter fish and swapping collecting lies and truths'? LOL

For extremely personal reasons, I will not travel by airplane (If you must know PM), but I would almost consider it to meet up with you. When you visit AZ and are on my turf well, anything I can do is on me. Including the book. Ahem, I will expect some "Hobbiton" treats in return cause we are still "Capitalists"!! Here is a picture of the french proof for JOYLAND. I dont know how many proofs are made by the french publisher but i think that it's a really low number as i've never seen any proofs for sale.
http://club-stephenking.fr/img/DIVERS/proofs/avril2014/Proof-Joyland-FR.jpg

Actually, I know of 3 copies of the french BAG OF BONES (including mine, that I bought on ebay a couple of years ago), which is quite cool, because it is not a normal plain proof. There is a text starting by "Dear friend bookseller"
Here is a picture :
http://club-stephenking.fr/img/DIVERS/proofs/avril2014/Proof-BagOfBones-FR.jpg

There is also the french DOCTEUR SLEEP which isnt a plain proof but is quite similar to the final book.
The proof is on the left in those 2 pictures.
http://club-stephenking.fr/img/DIVERS/proofs/avril2014/Proof-DoctorSleep-FR
http://club-stephenking.fr/img/DIVERS/proofs/avril2014/Proof-DoctorSleep2-FR

Except those 2 other french proofs of BAG OF BONES, I dont know of any other proofs out there that are NOT in my collection.
I have ALL of the recent books in proof since BLAZE. The only one that I dont have is TWTTKH, as it was released by another published who apparently didnt do any proofs for this title.
Here is a picture of a part of my shelf, on which I put the proofs next to the final books. UNDER THE DOME was plit in 2 books, hence the 2 proofs next to each other. As I dont have much space and am now really running out of space to follow my organisation, it starts to be piling on top of each other between shelves....

I've looked at this on eBay many times and thought it would be cool to own, but just decided to pull the trigger last week. It was described as:

Ned Dameron original black and white pencil art of an Edgar Rice Burroughs related scene (building) from one of his science fiction novels (Mars or Venus). Excellent condition. 11" x 14. Unpublished.

Upon closer look, though, I recognized it as a preliminary sketch for a painting in the Grant Edition of Robert E. Howard's Kull:

http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag74/Robert_Fulman/20140428_231501821_iOS_zpsb5abce3b.jpg

As an added bonus, the drawing is signed by Ned Dameron, and came with the envelope in which Ned mailed the drawing to the original buyer. Finally, the drawing explicitly states on it that it is the "Lion couch design for Delcardes' Cat, King Kull" (Delcardes' Cat was one of the stories included in the Kull book). I'm not sure why the seller thought it was an unpublished Burroughs drawing, but I'm glad he did.

After a long debate with myself I got my hands on a copy of the Deluxe Dracula by Centipede. It was shipped from UK and I got a really (really!) nice deal considering the original price when published.
It's roman numeral XIII of XXII copies. I was a little disappointed, I can say, about the size of it. Anyone who have a copy of Artist Inspired by King or Lovecraft traycase editions know how Centipede can make big and heavy books. I then realized that's not an art book, so paper stock is not the same and weight. But this edition (along with other deluxe) have one of the nicest paper I've seen and touched, deckled edge, nice traycase (leather/velvet? something soft and pleasant), bound in leather, extra suite of prints. The prints in the book itself, in my opinion, should have been full bleed. They height of the art don't fit the height of the pages. I know it was one of the first Deluxe Centipede ever made so I'm sure the new ones are better.

Now I'm only worried that I'm gonna want to get more Deluxe...

Pictures will have to wait (from me). It went back in the shipping box since I'm in the process of a lot of renovations in the new house I bought and all my books are stored away. Can't wait to have them all unpacked, hopefully in June.
Here's some other pictures from the auction but we settled away from eBay. It looks to be my copy that was for sale like 2 years ago at Bloody Rare Books :-) All I can say is that I bought it for less than 1/3 of the price it was from them.

CD make some great Lettereds in my opinion. I know some don't like the SOD books but I love my set of 1 & 2 lettered the production & presentation of the books seems a few step up from the S/L as with the IT Lettered & IT S/L I'd like to get a Lettered IT some day.

Two colors were used in the numbering of the S/L copies red & black.
1-300 black
1-80 red
The black & blue signatures I have are both of the black numbers 1-300

I know, I know. It's not King, but I had this sitting on my desk when I got to work this morning.

I was originally given a copy of this book by my grandmother on my 18th birthday way back in '96. Back then I thought it was cool and all but sold it to a comic shop a few months later to buy some video games. Yes, I was a stupid, stupid, stupid kid. Later on I really started to regret my decision because every time I'd see my grandmother I'd be hit with massive waves of guilt.

Then about 8 years ago while visiting friends in Minneapolis, I stopped in at Dreamhaven and they had 2 numbered copies and 2 lettered copies. I bought them all......... Only to have to sell them (and the rest of my collection) during a messy divorce a couple years later. But now I've got THIS one! :D The dust jacket shows some yellowing on the spine and the slipcase has a tiny bit of wear, but right now I'm totally fine with that. :)

Sorry for the not very King-y post. New Grant books recently added:

Paperback Art of James Avati, a gigantic softcover art book
"It's Garbage Coming", a book of post cards by Jeff Jones; cover price = $3.95. One of the strangest DMG books, but see below.
The Time Stream, by John Taine. Published by "Buffalo Book Company and G.H.E." in 1946, it's the second book Grant published.
The Aeneid of Virgil, a rather attractive book, and
Stonecutter, by John Kuramoto. This is definitely the strangest DMG book I've ever seen, as it is tiny (about 3x5 inches). I had read about this book online, but never seen pictures. I was able to find the Signed/Limited edition on Grant's website at cover price.

Well, there's a Grant book I do not have. I order new dust jackets from Grant fairly often, and I love putting new jackets on my books. However, I have screwed up a couple through over-zealous folding. No pressure though.

I recently read a book called "Over My Shoulder: Reflections on a Science Fiction Era" by Lloyd Arthur Eshbach (LINK (http://www.amazon.com/Over-My-Shoulder-Reflections-Science/dp/1880418118/)). It is a history of specialty Sci-Fi and Fantasy book publishers between the 1940s and early 1980s. There is an entire chapter devoted to Donald M. Grant, which explains the various imprints he founded or co-founded (Grant-Hadley, Buffalo Books and GHE, Grandon, Donald M. Grant, Centaur Press, and Macabre House) and contains a bibliography through 1981 or so. Interestingly, the book ends around that same time, and therefore makes no reference to "the most important event in small press history" (or however The Gunslinger was advertised). It's undeniable that the Dark Tower was what introduced me to DMG, but I'm more interested now in the fact that I can study about 70 years of local history (I'm a Bostonian, but Rhode Island and New Hampshire are close enough to be "local") through the prism of something I am really interested in (books in general, scifi specifically).

MacDonald and Futura are part of the same company. They produced a few King books as joint ventures. The Dead Zone, Firestarter and Danse Macabre spring to mind.

My copy is in reasonable shape, I'd say VG+/NF DJ and the book is VG+. The only problem with the book is that it has been widely opened at about page 30 and has caused the binding to 'split'. It could probably be repaired but probably not worth it for the value of the book.
If any one wants this, PM me - I only keep 1st editions in my collection. (I can send more photos on request)

Thanks for the comments on Night Shift.
Kingfan24 it is, after this arrived a friend from back home has offered me to good of a deal on a US & UK Night Shift he's only selling as a set though, so I've been wrestling with selling this & paying the extra $230.00 for the two. Although S/L's are my main focus of collecting & this would fund a book or couple Anthologies. At the same time this is my second favorite King Title. Decisions decisions. I'll be fine with it not selling as I'm leaning towards keeping it since I'm not sure of exact condition the other is in? We'll see I guess

I already posted a bad pic of some of these books but after receiving my latest addition I proudly present... another bad pic... of the unholy UK alliance (note that most of the apparent defects are a combination of bad lighting and Brodart covers):

https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/t1.0-9/10339738_10203487789066015_9184646176943851828_n.j pg

Carrie is not in great shape but I am not complaining! The Shining, The Stand and Danse Macabre are very nice. 'Salem's Lot, Night Shift and The Dead Zone are almost perfect.

With the addition of Danse Macabre I basically completed my UK collection. I used to own a complete set of UK trade 1sts but I'm now perfectly happy with just the Big Five (plus Two) and an assorted bunch of more recent UK editions that have great cover art (IMO). The only thing still missing is a nice copy of The Breathing Method.

Back from a seminar about writing by Bernard Werber, a french author that i appreciate and collect. He writes stories who develops themes such as science, philosophy, mythology, spirituality, environment, future... and more, always developped from numerous points of views.
His first trilogy about Ants was both from their point of view as well as from humans (the ants looking up, and us looking down to ants), other books were about humans & death, angels (humans looking at angels, angels looking at humans), humans and gods, aliens and humans, humans and Gaia...

http://club-stephenking.fr/img/BANNIERE--BW-masterclass.jpg

During his seminar he mentionned King several times, for instance THE STAND (eg : the Deus Ex Machina ending), and complimented the way some of his stories are writen. eg : Rita Haywort... and Thinner (which he descrited as perfectly narrated).

Before going to the event, I decided to go through my books and notice which of his books are not signed : I plan on having at least 1 copy of each of his books signed. Often it's the proof that I got signed, but not always.
>>> Therefore I got 2 books signed at this event :

http://club-stephenking.fr/img/collection-herbertwest/BW/2014-mai/thanatonautes-2014.JPG
http://club-stephenking.fr/img/collection-herbertwest/BW/2014-mai/arbre-possibles-2014.JPG

But I mostly went there because, me and a couple of friends are working on a project related to writing. Therefore the audience of the event was the perfect target for our project, and therefore I went there to give leaflefts.

I currently do not write stories, but I had an epiphanie while coming back : all of sudden I had an entire story developping in my mind. Something quite "different". The subject may sound boring at first, and therefore it's even better : a challenge to make it thrive !

The first isn't exactly a P & J but excited to have it early. I really enjoyed this book & hope he writes more crime novels.
Picked up the Dolan's proof from David,
Transgressions S/L, Very Best Of New Horror S/L & FDNS S/L from Barry,
The paperbacks 1-4 made me realize how small the King collecting world is. I won 2-4 months back but lost on #1, but it happens that Ari is the one who won it so to get to complete this set was a nice surprise. the one i lost went1 to Argentina but made its way to Colorado & that all four of the books are back together I thought was pretty cool.

I spent the last week hoping that no one would post it to the "Intriguing Auctions" thread. The title of the auction was The Gunslinger (Dark Tower #1 - Unabridged) Audio Cassettes Signed By SK, and I think not having "Stephen King" in the title of the auction helped. There were three other bidders in the last couple of days, but apparently none of them wanted to spend more than $30. Now I just need to find an equally sweet deal on The Drawing of the Three.

I'd say pretty much never. The only way to get a set like this is to match the S/L's and seek out the GE. If it helps anyone, I have #958 of the GE and would consider trading for a different number (shipping cost is yours however!)
Also if you have high #'s of the S/L's it's worth contacting Grant as I believe they still have copies of the GE for sale.

Also bear in mind that there are higher numbers as you go through the editions.
The Talisman S/L 1200 numbered copies
Black House S/L 1500 numbered copies
BH/Talisman GE 3500 numbered copies.

So your number needs to be 1200 or less to get the full set.

I got a New Lt. Rap for $350 years ago - it was actually listed at $250 on a bookseller site....I (correctly) had a feeling he would get multiple offers, so I TOLD him that he had underpriced it and that I would pay an extra $100...

Yes, I flipped it for a big profit (a long time later)...

Another "Awesome deal that never was story". This happened yesterday. The names of the victims have been changed to protect the innocent.

A friend of mine, lets call him "Simon" was looking through the list of books at ABE's. He had filtered the list for 1st editions of "'salem's Lot". Page after page was gone through, checking for details, condition, etc. He suddenly came across a book seller offering a "1st edition, Fine/Fine copy, first printing and had a dust cover price of $8.95. He read it again, and again. "TRUE FIRST EDITION with all first issue points accounted for, as follows: "First edition" stated on copyright page" yep, not price clipped, not $7.95, but $8.95. Price? $850. Panic set in. what to do? check with seller to see if they had made a mistake? could take time, what if someone else found it? Ok buy it. Sit back and prepare to amaze the members on TDT.org with the purchase of the century. Lets reread it again, "True first edition, $8.95, blah blah, Gutter code of "R49" printed on inner bottom gutter of page 447..." Hang on R49? That doesn't sound right. He checked the Catalogue, and sure it enough it should be Q37 and on page 439. He wondered if the seller had mixed it up with the Shining... Fuck. For the first time he actually reads the title of the item "The Shining - Stephen King" somehow this entry had got included in the search filter. Fortunately he was able to cancel. He also owned up to his mistake to the seller, who was understanding and somewhat amused.

I hope I never do something that stupid....

My Joyland Collection is now complete! I just received my ARC/Proof today. The Publisher said this & the 2 Gift Editions were all that they had left of King Inventory. My Contact has been very helpful & a pleasure working with! Reading in the proof catalogue that Jhanic knows of 4 including the one King is holding on the front of Parade. This makes number 5! THRILLED!

I have been looking for a matching set like this for awhile.. how often you do guys see one?

I'd say pretty much never. The only way to get a set like this is to match the S/L's and seek out the GE. If it helps anyone, I have #958 of the GE and would consider trading for a different number (shipping cost is yours however!)
Also if you have high #'s of the S/L's it's worth contacting Grant as I believe they still have copies of the GE for sale.

Thanks... I would pay above market value to grab a set like this... AKC knows my number if he wants to buy his lovey a nice Bday/Xmas?Valentines/ETC gift. lol

Also bear in mind that there are higher numbers as you go through the editions.
The Talisman S/L 1200 numbered copies
Black House S/L 1500 numbered copies
BH/Talisman GE 3500 numbered copies.

So your number needs to be 1200 or less to get the full set.
A matching set of these three is impressive. Congratulations, AKC!

So who is going to start a thread to track everyone's numbers for these three editions? Could lead to more matched sets. Theoretically.

You are fortunate RF took a week off.

You know the total number of signed/limited King's off the top of your head? I think skcollector has 44 listed on his limited page but wasn't sure if that was complete.

This site lists them all. Check out the Catalogues (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/forumdisplay.php?124-Stephen-King-Collectibles-Catalog).

Too much counting, I was hoping someone would just tell me. :)

Do you wish to know the number of titles, the number of items, the total limitations of all titles?
Get off of your ass and go here. (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showwiki.php?title=Complete+list+of+Stephen+King+S igned+Limiteds) Add them up, then report back here to help other lazy people. Link:

Ah, that makes sense.

This is correct. I have a US address with a Shipping Forwarder (IPSParcels) They hold deliveries for up to 30 days. They then ship using DHL or Fedex (your choice). They don't open the parcels and deal with all the paperwork including customs. This delivery took 2 days from Florida to my door and cost me less than half of what individual shipping would have been.

Lot Guy - nice! I contacted Charles Ardai before they announced the Joyland hardcover editions to check if a HC edition was in the works (I was assuming maybe a large print edition like for The Colorado Kid). He was very friendly and told me to wait for an announcement because they had something in the works. We all know what happened next.

When Charles turned out to be such a gentleman I also asked him if there were any ARCs available. He then forwarded my question to a lady-in-the-know but she told me they'd done only a limited number and she expected to send them all out to her media contacts. So unfortunately I was unable to get one. I did find a review copy (regular trade PB with publisher's letter) a couple of weeks before publication.
