I received this very, very interesting book, conceived by, J.J. Abrams that appears to be a very cool story. It is a "Book, within a book" so to speak and was featured on "The Colbert Report". I can't wait to get started!!!

I came across a Cycle Of The Werewolf S/L
I now own #161
Very happy about this as COTW & Salem's Log are my favorite King Titles & have the most meaning for me
Book is in fine with fine slipcase
Here's a picture of the COTW that is inscribed to my son & the S/L
Now I just need to find art portfolio for these

I'll have to measure it when I get home tonight, but no I don't think so ... seemed normal to me.

EDIT: It's 7" x 10", so yes a little taller and a little wider than most other proofs, but not so big as Battleground or SOD. It's exactly the same size as SK Collector's 11/22/63 traycase, the white & burgundy one.

I came home to these a few days ago,
Salem's Lot Limited Editions,
The gift edition in Collector's traycase was inscribed to me this summer so not new but thought it looked nice next to the new ones,
Sealed gift edition & S/L #47 Black
The S/L was purchased from Dgraham42,
One of the other members here had tried purchasing but he wanted to be paid in gift form,
Like the other member I wasn't comfortable with that since he had no reputation here or on Collector's site
He did agree to be paid in goods & services form & transaction went smooth,
I was leery about this at first but Darren ended up being a great seller keeping in phone contact from start of purchase till book was in my hands & inspected,
Has anybody here had a tray case made for the S/L

That's true !
The bookseller i bought it from was selling a lot of books from her library.
It originally had a sticker on the dust jacket with a number and her name handwritten on it .
Maybe stupid but i removed it :)

Me knowing is just the same as a sticker saying so. I don't really collect for investment, so it doesn't really matter. What does matter is that I now have a kick ass story to go along with the book!!!

Photobucket makes this easy. Open the picture you wish to post in PB and look for the 'Links to share this photo' options. The one you want is the last one 'IMG' just click on this and it will copy it to the clipboard. Then just paste it into the thread. no other tags need be applied.

I almost bought that set when it was listed online. Was that from Ken Lopez or Between-The-Covers? I forget. It was a nice set at a good price. In the end I elected to pass on it though. Didn't Stanley Wiater write his name or put an ownership stamp or something like that inside the NLR? I think that was what turned me off.

Just need to do some research to find out why this has no number or traycase....

Update: just spoke to PS. As expected this is a publishers or more likely a contributors copy. May have been given to one of the artists. Unfortunately they don't have any additional tray cases, so I will hope one turns up (unlikely) or get one made. (assuming I hang on to it - as some of you are are aware signed limiteds are not my thing and I obtain them mainly as a way of trading for or selling on to raise money for my missing US 1sts (Carrie, 'salem's Lot, Night Shift, Gunslinger)

Nice book! I think I have something even nicer and more special around here. Let me take some pics and I'll get them posted pronto.

I'm not trying to be pedantic here, just informative.

Publishers order extra page blocks from the printer in order to cover losses and damage, and to provide Presentation Copies. They will then send most, if not all, of those to the binder being sure that there will still be extras. Once the books are received from the binder they are typically numbered/lettered or marked as Presentation Copies (or not. There is no rule. PS usually does mark their PC copies though.) A Presentation Copy is one reserved for the publisher, author, illustrator, etc.. Some of the books are left unnumbered; these are referred to as Out of Series. If a numbered/lettered, or PC for that matter, edition is damaged then they have replacements. Once all obligations are met the extras make their way into the market. Most are marked PC, or in PS Publishing's case marked with their stamp, before reaching the market, but not all.

Even though Out of Series copies may well become "Presentation Copies", that isn't the intent at publication.

Thanks Br!an - good info. The person I spoke to at PS Publishing did state that all the copies that had been signed had gone out as PC or what he referred to as 'Contributor' copies. I am currently contacting the seller of the book to try and get some history on it.

I'm glad it worked out, and of course now I wish I had taken the risk :) I do the same as you, by the way, which is how I came across this book. I finance most of my collecting by finding good deals and then selling them. I just wasn't excited about waiting for a few weeks for a book to arrive from the UK. When I find great deals that I'm not going to pursue, I post them here for all (or one) to enjoy!

I found this listing to be really strange, though, because the same seller has the same exact same book (Glenn Chadbourne, 33 copies, unnumbered) but in a traycase for $609, which means that he values the traycase at approx. $500.

Yes, I also looked into his other sales and saw he had another numbered copy (2 actually!). This is why I was expecting an email saying the description was wrong - I thought it might have been a copy and paste error!
So what's the general consensus of value without the slipcase?

I bought this on eBay recently.....not knowing exactly what it was. I think it is pretty interesting. It seems to be a very early promotional brochure for Cycle Of The Werewolf published by Land of Enchantment in 1983. Largish (9 1/4" x 8 1/2") brochure with two pages of text inside. What I found interesting were the prices and I wonder if this will necessitate some changes in the catalog listing for this item? And are these really the final selling prices? $300 for The Collector's Edition with the Wrightson drawing? $100 for the Deluxe Edition?

I seem to recall paying $75 for the trade edition and I am pretty sure I got it directly from Land of Enchantment? What the hell was I thinking? Could I have really gotten the S/L for $25 more? My memory is hazy but I don't recall the signed editions being offered in the brochure I got back in 1983. Anyway I found this piece of ephemera interesting and thought y'all might enjoy reading it too.

What's the art catalog from '94 that came with it like?

About 30 pages of original Wrightson artwork with approx. 4 items per page. Range from concept sketches to finished artwork. There were four original finished illustrations from The Stand priced from $1300 to $1500. Several Cycle Of The Werewolf prelims and sketches in the $100 to $150 range. No finished COTW paintings, though. Although not listed the owner says he has several finished pages from Creepshow and to "inquire for availability."

I always think these older prices seem low and wish I could have bought more back then but realistically they were probably priced pretty high for the times.

I think that the prices in the catalog for COTW are in question based on the promotional flyer where Chris Zavisa clearly outlines the selling prices.

It's sort of an omnibus proof (from the UK), not extremely hard to find but this is a really nice copy. It will set you back a couple hundred $.

Not a new SK book - but I just received the rest of this set today - from camelot:

And the big one in the collection is the third book - since it was actually the first printed in this deluxe series and used Joanne Rowling instead of JK Rowling as in all of the other editions - and the later printings of Prisoner of Azkaban:

When Knowing Darkness first came out in 2009 it was sold for around $295 I think? I wanted it but couldn't afford it. I have always wanted a copy and have watched copies come up occassionally on ebay for less, dipping to $150. I almost purchased that one but still resisted. Then our fearless leader RF posted in one of the threads that a Kknowing Darkness was up for bid on ebay I checked out the listing and could not resist the $99 Buy It Now price, which included a whopping $4 for shipping. Not too shabby for such a big book!

Also note that the seller was actualy George Beahm, who wrote the text in the book. He had ten copies for sale. George has written many many SK related books of which I have most. My fave is a Presentation Copy of his Limited Stephen King From A to Z signed by George and including a really nice tipped in photo of King's Bangor Home.

I first met George in Bangor being ingtroduced by Kevin Quigley. That was at the Bag of Bones signing in 1998 - incidentally when I also met a few of the really serious (super) collectors such as Charlie Fried, Chris ? and Bob Jackson (our very own CarlosDetweiler). George and I have since become friends. I have purchased other non SK related books from him in the past as well.

So proud to say that my newest P&J arrived at my doorstep yesterday, nicely signed by George! Also included were three foldout double-sided illustrations. Wow is this book big, and is it heavy! I am proud to say that it is now part of my collection - just where o where can I put it? For now it rests on my coffee table! I can't wait to start working my way through this giant book!

Here are a few pics.

This pic taken to show its size!

This pic shows it opened up and one side of the three inserted illustrations!
The illustration of Jake my fave here!
http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/500/medium/photo_21.JPG

This last pic with the three illustrations flipped over and I placed Stephen King The Dark Man from CD Pubs in the pic for size comnparison! My fave illustration here being Roland at the Tower!

The truth is that I considered selling my proofs, since it's not something I really "collect" (I don't think I'd ever pay for a proof the money I pay for a S/L) but decided not to do it yet. If that moment ever comes, I'll probably sell my UK proofs first, and then my US ones.

You aren't kidding. The highest priced one on Abe is listed for $15,000.

There was actually a really nice Near Fine copy on ebay back in December that went for about $2500. I'm pretty shocked it didn't go for more than that.

Michaël, PM me if you need any of the first edition identification info for the Dune books.
As you saw in my collection thread, I've been expanding my Dune collection recently and have most of that info on hand.

I should have specified that in some cases I'll be perfectly happy with whatever nice hardcover edition I can get if the true 1sts are very expensive. The prices of for example the 1st/1st George R.R. Martin books are what I consider to be the upper limit for non-King trade editions.

You could pick up one of the Barnes and Noble leatherbound collector editions of Dune or other books they offer in those editions. Not the best made books but still very good for the low cost. They are bonded leather, many with foiling and gilt or stained page edges and raised ribs on the spines. Many of them contain the original artwork from the first editions too. They look great on a bookshelf and I have the entire collection bar one or two that I didn't want or were too expensive on the secondary market. I'm happy with them for the prices. Some are better than others and some out of print and running at $300-$400 or more from secondary sellers. Just an option if you're on a budget.

Got this today from our very own Rusty/namelessnpoor. Great guy to deal with, minty condition and excellent packaging!

Thanks Rusty!

I offered him a trade on that for my S/L Colorado Kid, he was looking to sell only. Shame :)
Good to know it's in the UK though, I'll be pestering you for trades Alan!

Just received this acrylic painting from Bernie Wrightson. It was one of the six or so paintings he did for the CD limited edition of From A Buick 8. Image size is about 12" x 8.5" and it depicts the alien dissection. It certainly won't appeal to everyone but I always thought it was one of the strongest images he did for that particular book. When the book was published I was lucky enough to be able to buy two of the other paintings but did not get this one. I was always on the fence about spending the asking price for this one but I took advantage of a "post-holiday" 50% off sale on the website and finally got this one. Really happy to have it but I'm sure my wife will hate it. (I haven't shown it to her yet and might not till I get it back from the framers.)

Yes. But I bought it the old fashioned way.....I mailed a check....so it is taking a little longer. I have received word from the seller that he has mailed it but I think it might be a bit delayed because of all the bad weather in the northeast. (The seller is in Hampden, Maine)

Got this in today. Many thanks to surly for letting us know it was available. A copy of Moth published in 1970 in Orono, ME while King was in college. This one is signed inside the front cover by the contributors (minus one), the editors and the cover artist. Not sure when it was signed but almost surely it was in 1970 when the book was published. Tabitha is still a Spruce and she and King married in January 1971. Other notable is Michael Alpert (later of Philtrum Press). I've got that letter that King wrote and signed to Forry Ackerman when he was 14 but I think this is the earliest signature I have of King signing a publication with his writing in it. Really glad to be putting this one in my collection.

Starting with a CD Collectors Club selection and what is, I imagine, Rick Hautala's final S/L. It's also a very good story.

Thanks for all the nice comments. No, I don't think it belonged to anyone here. surly posted about it's availability a short while ago. I asked for the seller's contact info and he sent it to me. It was Bill Lippincott who ran a used bookstore in downtown Bangor for many years but is now retired. He has bought and sold a lot of King stuff over the years being right in King's hometown and close to the college King attended. He said he bought it quite a while ago and recently found it going through stacks of stuff. When surly made his post I jumped all over it.
