The lettered IT is gorgeous. Congrats AKC.

I had this custom made to house Long Walk inscribed to Jim Bishop and Rage inscribed to me. Some day I hope to have Roadwork and Running Man also signed - preferably inscribed to me tho that might have been a once in a lifetime thing.

Ssigned french edition of THE RUNNING MAN. Signed in 1990 (and not at the recent signing in Paris).
CHERRY ON TOP : it's not only a french edition, but a first french edition.

HOW TO TOP THAT? it's a REVIEW COPY. cf the punched holes on the back, forming the letters : SP, for "Service Presse", so a review copy.
The other only review copy with those SP that i have is the very first french edition of CARRIE which i got signed in Paris.

The Long Walk is dedicated to Jim Bishop. He was one of King's teachers at the university.
The story is one of my favorites so to have the book inscribed to the same person it is dedicated to is pretty awesome. One of my top 5 Prized Collectibles

I just saved myself a couple hundred dollars.

In my quest to pick up Gift editions of those titles available in this form, I was going to pop for a Gift (1/600) of 'SALEM'S LOT (Centipede Press) to replace my Fine/Fine Doubleday 1st HC of 'SALEM'S LOT: THE ILLUSTRATED EDITION...there've been a few in the last couple of days on eBay. Did a bit more research on the volume (I was familiar with the S/L edition, but not so much the Gift ed.), and it turns out it apparently does not have the photo illustrations of the S/L and Doubleday ILLUSTRATED volumes. As well, the 13" trim size will not fit in my 11" max lawyer's bookcase shelves...I'd assumed incorrectly the Gift edition had a smaller trim than the S/L.

So I guess my Pride and Joy is, as it turns out, my Doubleday ILLUSTRATED HC 1st. Who knew.

Jerad (at Centipede Press) sold a number of sets of the photographs separately. Each set contained the pictures that were used in the s/l edition. These sets of photographs are EXTREMELY scarce.

SirFolio16

I don't think it plays a specific role. I saw The Dark Man as a tale of wandering. And I think its just another of the many things the Dark Man see's on his travels.

Where was the wheel in the story/poem?
Of course Randall Flagg travels, but "adding" him to "Joyland" is quite a bit of artistic license.

There is no mention of a carousel, a ferris wheel, or a partridge in a pear tree. It's a very "liberal" interpretation.

I'm sorry... I didn't mean a mention of it in the text...

I meant that several of the illustrations in the book have carnival related themes... for example if I am not mistaken I believe I saw a illustration with a broken down carousel.

To me it almost felt like the book was trying to give The Dark Man that carny kind of feel... the great wanderer.

Perhaps not a lapse per se' but maybe Joyland has more lasting effect than the Dark Man poem so inspires him more.

Just got my package from Glenn. He was kind enough to let me send him an idea and then run with it. Here is what I sent him "As you know, the dark man is the precursor to the character Randall Flagg. You have done such an amazing job with poem I was thinking of exploring the character that emerges. At the rear of the book are two blank white canvases for you. I see them as a sort of collage (you have done some really cool ones over the years) of Flagg's appearances. as long as Grant in Australia is jealous!

I was seeing:
The Stand - the dark man overlooking Vegas and crucifixions, maybe even a mushroom cloud with the hand of God behind, like in the novel's finale
Eyes of the Dragon - the dark man shot in the eye with an arrow, beginning to melt, perhaps the young king/prince with his bow spent
The Gunslinger's opening line where the gunslinger is following the man in black across the desert, maybe in the foreground/background of the collage
Perhaps a railroad through it like from the poem itself, a dark man at the back of it ready to emerge as the characters

What do you think? Is this crazy? It's just the kind of homage I was envisioning given the seminal importance do the poem. B/W, Color, subtle color? I can leave up to your eye. Let me know what you think. You can tell me I'm being ridiculous if you want. I hope you're up for it."

My God, was he up for it! Enjoy!

I've recieved a limited french edition of FRANKENSTEIN, illustrated by Berni Wrightson.
I already had this book, but one of the 50 copies that were not available for sale and that are numbered in roman letters. The first one that i ever saw appearing for sale.
Mine is 36 (XXXVI), and got it for a low 64€ :)

I guess that this is the only french item that is sort of similar to a lettered edition...
So, i've got the 3 states of that french edition (normal edition BUT review copy, limited 1/500, limited 1/50 with "slipcase") + the recent reprint by a different publisher: 4 copies !

Awesome books, John and Stroppy!

oh, that aint no book - it's what we used to call "a record" back in the day. You place it on a spinning turntable and drop a 'stylus' onto its surface. This is like a tiny needle that moves up and down based on the peaks and troughs of the 'track'. This up and down movement is converted into electrical impulses and finally produced as sound waves out of a loud speaker.

Some of our younger members may not believe this, but honest it's all true.

You may also have heard them referred to by other names, such as 'vinyl' , 'LP', and a variant in size - 'a single' or '45'. (there were other earlier variants, but you'll have to ask Merlin1958 about '78's ;) )

Oh and get this, they were 2 -sided, so in order to hear the second set of 'tracks' you had to flip it over! (I know, but it's the truth)

A long time ago I decided that I could not afford to go after all the SK S/Ls, proofs, etc. that are out ther for the taking - just too much dinero required! So I decided that I would be happy to grab the occasional one (especially if the deal was right) such as the Signed Joyland, and to instead focus on completing my collection of Stephen King First Eidtions. Well my collection is now complete thanks to Dave at Betts! In yesterday's mail was my newest P&J, a First Edition Salem's Lot!. It's the one with the 3rd DJ with corrcection to Father Callahan. It plases me to no end to have a complete set now! I'll keep up as new books are published, and will grab onto the signed editions that appear on my radar at the right time and for the right amount. I do have to obtain three of the 4 Bachman paperbacks, but will take my time until I find them reasonably - well I am sure If I wait and look long enough I will find a couple of them. The only one I have is The Running Man.

And items on my "grail" list:

S/L The Stand
S/L Skeleton Crew
S/L Firestarter
Knowing Darkness

Finally got a copy of S. signed by both authors (director JJ Abrams and Doug Dorst) only to have it get messed up in shipping due to a lazy seller(bubble mailer).
He charged almost $15 for Priority Mail only to ship it using Media Mail in a bubble mailer.
No surprise then that the slipcase now has a small tear and the seal is completely ripped through.

Prices have gone up since I won the auction, so I need to decide if I want to return it and pay someone else double for a better copy, or keep it and get a partial refund.

Listing said "Book is in excellent condition and has not been read. The seal on the book remains unbroken."

Well aware. My wife has a 1947 Sonora Record Player that was a HS graduation gift to her Father. It plays 78's, 45's, and 33's. It is mono not stereo.

OK, I want everyone to please take what follows seriously. Below you will find my most recent remarque, one that Erin Wells did in my S/L Dr. Sleep (Now I have Vinny and Erin in the S/L). This remarque was commissioned by me - it is NOT one of the CD ones. I took the chance and time to send Erin my own book, at my own cost. No offense to CD, but I figured I would get more for my money this way, and Erin gets more as well, all of it in fact. Because I worked with Erin on this I was able to have a "little" input - I was dying to see more of what was in the mirror, and she agreed. In all likelihood, my remarque will be larger, more detailed, and have more color, than what the CD ones. I just don't want Erin to catch any unnecessary ill will because I wanted to share her creation with my collecting friends. With that in mind, please enjoy Erin's latest creation, and the first of her remarques that I have seen in the Doctor Sleep books. Bravo Erin!

That's kind of my thinking.
When I bought it, there were several BIN listings at $115, now they are all around $200, so it makes the price better.
The main issue is over charging for one shipping method and then using another for significantly less and poor packaging that allowed the damage to happen.

I'm wondering if I could use a heat gun to get the seal off of my reading copy and put it on this one...

I wasn't looking for a First, but while at a local bookseller's open house, I saw this in a cabinet listed at $600. Because it was a special event, used books were listed 20% off in-store (the store is actually their house). The dust jacket is a little dinged, but not bad at all. The book is very tight, square, and clean. The only true flaw is an owners embossed stamp. It's on one of the colored endpapers, so isn't readily "visible," but you can feel it. For $480, I couldn't pass it up.

Is that the jacket? :arg:

That it is. The dust jacket art is by my brother, so it's bit difficult to be completely objective. I like it, to the extent that I think it's possible to like any piece of abstract art (i.e., not really my thing). I'll reserve judgment on how well it serves as a dust jacket until I actually see it. I do know that Shannon is quite fond of it, though, as he mentions it pretty often.

Although now that I've had a chance to compare to the original version, I think it works better than I was expecting it to. The colors look a little better, and I think the folding does focus the eye a little better. Also, it's a bit unfair to call it "abstract", as there is actual concrete content in the picture which isn't entirely visible in Merlin's photo.

Specifically, the image of a pencil and a book, and beneath that a world of fantasy:
http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag74/Robert_Fulman/coversnippet_zpsdfa66c29.jpg

Back on topic, I like that "New Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos". I just read "Lovecraft: A Look Behind the Cthulhu Mythos", which went into great detail about the founding of Arhkam House. It was fascinating reading, especially since it was written in the early 1970s.

No rush my friend, I am in the same boat. Let me know if you have a strong desire for it and I'd be happy to keep it waiting.

This is not the "traycased" Knowing Darkness, just the normal slipcased edition. The seller had only one acrylic case for this edition made as a prototype for the traycased versions he is selling so this is one-of-a-kind!

Too bad -- I was all set to run to eBay and grab one. I saw all those auctions, but didn't remember one for the slipcased edition...I got all excited, thinking that had changed. Oh well. Enjoy yours!

ELazansky or Br!an, could one of you post some pics of the sig pages in MISTER OCTOBER? I wavered on that one long and hard, but finally opted not to pull the trigger on them. I'd love to see what I missed (and may have to pick up on the secondary market).

He still has several available for the traycased edition. This one wasn't listed. I sent him a message inquiring as to how the slipcased edition would look in it. He let me know that it was too big for that edition but he believed he had one in his warehouse that was made as a prototype for the traycased editions that would fit the slipcased editions. Got back to me a few days later and indeed he had just the one and only one that was made. He is a heck of a nice guy!

Brian posted pics of every signature page in his Collection thread, so check them out there.

I wavered for a while on it too. It was supposed to only have 60 copies, but it looks like they had enough interest to make 80. It also came with the eBook version, so it is on my list to read soon...

I am happy to have it. I ordered late myself. More because of my book budget than my desire for the book. I'm very pleased with the result. It's full of interesting art and stories. Every author signed, so I see it as a bargain at four dollars per signature.

Plus it's a good cause. (All profits go to Rick Hautala's widow.)

There are no more limited editions available but there are still hardcovers, softcovers and ebooks.
