Different seller. Cycle was from Camelot Books. I made a few smaller monthly payments. They're pretty good about that.

Doctor Sleep is the first UK edition. I ordered it from bookdepository.com and for once, the book arrived without any blemishes.

An easy way to tell if they are originals or copies is remove the brads and see if there is black around the holes that did not match up when Xeroxed and re-punched. if no black they should be originals.

Paid way too much for this but didn't have it and felt I needed it. Not sure where to post stuff like this. Not really a "Pride and Joy". More like "Well here's something."

It is the Summer 1983 issue of DARK HORIZONS, a UK publication. In the prior issue (Summer 1982) a writer named Pete Scott attributed THE LONG WALK to King (for some reason he didn't mention RAGE, ROADWORK or THE RUNNING MAN). King responded with this short letter to the editor. Interesting for historical purposes if nothing else.

I really doubt that such a project would see the lights of the day... because of the multiple copyright issues with the copyright owners of all those essays. But who knows?

A bit similar to Bob's sharing with the proof/ pages of THE PLANT : I really like a french author. Every year, he usually invites me prior to the publication of his new book, to get his own proof copy.
This year, the publisher didnt do any. But he invited me to get, this morning, loose printed pages of his proof. For the book that just got released. And last year's.
We discussed a bit, he asked me if i would like to read the next volume (that he sent the other day to his editor). He looked at a printed version, considered it a wee while, browing the different pages and annotations... before saying that he'll wait to see his editor's feedback, as he wouldnt want me to read a disappointing book. Before saying that i'll get it the next time.

We then discussed a bit (about many things, including Stephen King & Orson Scott Card, a book he highly recommend me to read : the dice man, by Luke Rhinehart) etc. He even gave me an advice when i said there was 1 book that i am still looking for (the ONLY copy i had ever heard about or seen for sale, got FUCKING LOST during the shipping to me!) : a limited edition of a short story, that was given away during a writing conference, a few years back. He said that he has a copy someone else, he may give to me next time. Anyway, I then left, not with his next book (to be released in a year, what a shame!), but not empty handed either :

That's a great little letter. Very rare thing indeed. If and when a collection of King's non-fiction writings gets underway, I wonder how many fat volumes it will take?
I really doubt that such a project would see the lights of the day... because of the multiple copyright issues with the copyright owners of all those essays. But who knows?

Well such projects have been done for other authors in the past. I'm sure in time King's non-fiction too could be collected and published.

I should be able to get 2 copies. For FREE!
As I asked to get it delivered on person, in order to prevent the same mistake than last time (even if this time i could get it delivered to work), I may not be able to get them until next week. Since she's helping me with this, and she offered those copies for FREE, I offered this lady (who happens to have a very nice Facebook profile picture by the way :p) to invite her for a drink.

I am obviously very impatient... but I shall not rush anything, in order to prevent reproducing last time's disaster!

My main focus in collecting right now is "Donald Grant or Dark Tower books". Ironically, my collection of the intersection of those two is somewhat lacking. I'd love to have one (or more) of everything. I'm not particular about numbers, but this is my first PC copy:

Very cool! Congrats! The difference is sigs could also be a time lapse between When Black House came out in 2001, and if he possibly signed the other form prior to selling his copy.

Last week i recieved a french proof for DOCTOR SLEEP :)

And today, i couldnt be happier : in 2011, by accident, i heard for the first time of a boo kthat i never heard about by a french author that I collect . A limited edition of 300 copies given away during an event. It was the first copy i heard about and saw it for sale.
I ordered it, behing happy as it was quite cheap too. The seller was from the Paris area, and I didnt have time to go and collect it. BIG MISTAKE. The item was lost during its shipping.
Ever since, I was desperately looking for a copy.

Last week end I met with the author and we discussed numerous things. I mentionned it, and he said that he had a copy himself, and that i should also contact such person. This lovely lady have kept a few copies, and gave me two of them tonight!
2 years later, I get 2 copies, for free. I therefore invited her for some drinks, and hada lovely dinner speaking about litterature & other stuff.
Now, i will need to get them signed :)

Nice haul. But what is that letter or manuscript page at the bottom of the second picture?

THE LETTER was a note sent to "MONSTER FANS" offering to sell one of 3 stories for a bout 20 - 30 cents a piece depending on your choice sent out by King in Sept 1963. This was a TRIAD piece with the Triad logo drawn in. The address was hand written by Steve King with a 4 cent stamp used for mailing. This was actually my biggest thrill at this event. I showed it to him pointing out it was 50 years old. He stopped in the middle of his quick signatures and sat reading and examining the whole piece. I told him any comment on it was welcome. He signed , then dated it saying that is a comment in itself. I had made a copy which I offered him which he smiled and willingly accepted.

This is a portrait of my granddaughter that Ned Dameron so graciously consented to paint. It took almost a year to get it back but I think the wait was worth it. She just had her 7th birthday and as any of you with girls that age know, she most CERTAINLY is the 'princess'......

$125. I see SP found a few extra copies and offered them at issue price. I was too late on the email to pick one up though.

I will have to find me one when I can round up some money. Why is this copy thicker than the other copies is it because they used a better stock of paper or what? I wished I had known it would look this good when you could get it from the publisher.

That plus there's an additional novella cut from the original manuscript, about 50 pages I think?

Wish I had listened to you and brought a HC Joyland to Toronto with me...

Congrats RF! With the dinged numbered copies, I'm still curious what the buyers of the non-dinged copies received. Was the count increased above 750? Did they get PC copies?

Mine was #717.
I don't feel like starting and maintaining one of those "..What # do you have?" threads. But if someone gets a #>750 that would be interesting.
